EFCC arrests Zenith bank’s MD over suspicious withdrawal of N117bn by Rivers State Government

The EFCC has reportedly detained the MD of Zenith Bank, Peter Amangbo over a series of transactions his bank allegedly carried out on behalf of Rivers State.

EFCC is alleging that the transactions, at least N117 billion in value, are suspicious in nature but that Zenith failed to report them as demanded by law.

According to reports, Amangbo was held to explain why his bank failed to document the withdrawals, allegedly done over a three-year period, as suspicious.

Amangbo was first invited for questioning on August 23, but he was freed on administrative bail and asked to return on August 24 for further interrogation.

He honoured the arrangement, turning himself in again at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, he was however not allowed to return home on Friday.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers slammed the investigation as “political witch-hunt” saying he would continue to prevent state officials from appearing before the EFCC for questioning.

“No government official will appear before the EFCC,” Mr Wike was quoted as saying in a statement his spokesperson Simeon Nwakaudu sent to PREMIUM TIMES Sunday night.

The Governor said an Appeal Court judgement in 2007 prohibited the EFCC from prying into Rivers State coffers, a ruling he claimed had not been appealed.

They filed for leave to appeal the judgment at the Court of Appeal.

Until they set aside the judgment, we will not come” Wike said, adding that a fresh lawsuit would be filed to stop the EFCC investigation of Rivers accounts.

Trump referred to Buhari as “lifeless” – Financial Times

President Donald Trump of the United States referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as lifeless after both leaders met in April, according to Financial Times.

The visit of the Nigerian leader to his US counterpart was celebrated by the presidency and supporters of Buhari.

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, had said the visit to US was an endorsement of the current administration by the American government.

“No matter how Nigerians take our own country, this is hugely an important country and this recognition is being manifested in this visit,” he had said.

On his part, Lai Mohammed, minister of information, had described the visit as a sign of the growing cooperation between the US and Nigeria.

“He (Buhari) is the president of the most populous country in Africa, the president of the country with the largest economy in Africa. And I think it’s probably the fact that the world is now understanding that Nigeria is very strategic not just to the sub-region but the entire Africa,” Mohammed had said.

At a press briefing held after the bilateral meeting, Trump said he would love to visit Nigeria which he described as one of the most beautiful places on earth.

He also commended Buhari for the war against insurgency and the fight against corruption.

“Nigeria has a reputation for very massive corruption. I also know that the President has been able to cut that down very substantially,” Trump had said.

“We talked about that, he is working on it and they have made a lot of progress and I think they will continue to make a lot of progress.”

But Financial Times quoted three sources familiar as saying Trump told his aides that he never wanted to meet someone as lifeless as Buhari again.

The White House is yet to respond to inquiries by TheCable.

Last year, there was a controversy over Trump’s alleged description of some African countries as “shithole”.

The Washington Post said he made the remark at a private White House meeting on January 12 but the American leader denied making the comment.

23 year old mother sells six-weeks-old baby in Edo; uses proceeds to buy new phone (Photo)

The Edo state police command have apprehended a 23-year-old mother of two, Miracle Johnson, for selling her six-weeks-old baby and using proceeds from the transaction to buy herself a phone.

According to a report by Punch, Miracle who hails from Agenebode in Etsako East local government area of the state, sold her baby, Greatness, to an orphanage in Onitsha, Anambra State, for N200,000.

Miracle said she was pushed to sell her baby because of financial hardship being experienced by herself and her husband.

In her own words,

“My baby was born on July 2. I sold her due to frustration. My husband was just struggling (to provide for us). My friend (Mama Joy) said that since my husband was not taking care of me, if I did it (sold the baby), I could give the money to my husband to start a business or buy a motorcycle. Two weeks later, she came back. I did not know what happened to me. So, I carried a bag, picked some things and left. I sold her to an orphanage in Onitsha. The orphanage bought the child for N200,000. I just bought only a phone; I did not want to buy it, but she (Mama Joy) forced me to do so.

I told my pastor what I did and that it was a mistake for which I would never forgive myself. So, my husband and I went to a police station to report. I know what I did was not good. I pray that my child will forgive me.”

When interrogated, her husband, Johnson Omovuokpor, was angry that his wife still sold their child despite his disapproval of her plan.

“When she told me about her plan, I told her to forget about it and exercise patience. On that day, I took my motorcycle out for repairs. When I went back home to get some money, I saw my first daughter with my neighbour. When I asked about my wife’s whereabouts, I was told that she went out with a bag, saying that she was going to buy something. So, I remembered what she said she wanted to do with the baby. When she called me later in the afternoon to tell me that she had sold the baby, I cursed her and ended the call. I became confused afterwards and could not do anything for the rest of that day.”

The Commissioner of Police in the state said the baby would be rescued while the suspect would be charged to court.

A while back the Prophet made the shocking revelation about what he does before preaching the world of God.

“I lick my wife before going to preach and there is nothing wrong with it. My wife does the same thing so i must satisfy her too” he stated.

“I don’t think oral sex is explicitly prohibited in any biblical command. If the Bible pro-scribes it, it would have to be by principle and not by an explicit command” Kumchacha added.

“I’m not a church goer” – Linda Ikeji reveals

Linda Ikeji has revealed she is not a Church goer but she communes with God and gets him to bless her in numerous ways.

Read what she posted on her Instagram page moments ago:

Every other minute, someone somewhere, in Nigeria, in the world, is subscribing to lindaikeji.tv. Everytime I get an alert of a payment, I mouth ‘Thank You God’. This is a venture many had doubts would work, but God has a way of proving people wrong.

Now, I’ll like to share with you guys the secret of my success; Hardwork and a lot of PRAYER & PRAISES. Listen, I’m not a church goer; if I told you how many times I’ve been to church in the last 5 years, you would call me a sinner.

But here’s what I do every day I wake up; I pray to God and then I praise Him. I never fail. Even if it’s just for a minute, I praise Him. You know what I’ve learnt by constantly praising God? I learnt that the more I praise Him, the more He steps into my matter; the more I praise Him, the more He Gives me reasons & testimonies to praise Him.

I didn’t come from riches; I’ve seen the kind of poverty I hope many of you never see; there were days that I didn’t have food to eat; days I would walk for miles because I didn’t have transport fare; days I couldn’t sleep from so much sadness & worry, so much pain and despair; days that I would worry about how I would return the N5k I borrowed from my mum’s meager teacher’s salary; days I wondered how to go on; when my life would turn around. I turned 30 and I was still struggling. But you see, in all of this, there was one thing I never failed to do, work hard & then PRAISE Him. And for that, God faced me one day and has since never departed from me.

Now listen to me pls. When you want to give up, when it looks like the world has turned it’s back on you, in the midst of pain & sorrow, please never ever fail to praise God. The praises and prayers that come out of your mouth will cause God to step in; to fight on your behalf. Tell Him constantly, please don’t pass me by, don’t turn your eyes against me and then lift your hands and start to praise Him. He’s the only one who can show His power through your storm. The only one greater than any calamity. So keep praising Him. And keep working hard.

My prayer for you today is; may the praises of God never depart from your mouth and may He bless the works of your hands. Have an amazing week ahead.

Mel B reveals she is going to rehab for sex addiction

Spice Girl’s Mel B has bravely admitted that she is checking into a clinic after battling issues with booze, sex and post-traumatic stress disorder.

She’d be admitted into a UK-based therapy centre next month, to help her cope with alcohol and sex addiction, alongside a post-traumatic stress disorder.

A close friend who spoke about the sex addiction the 43-year-old former Spice Girls band member is hanging on, revealed how Mel B slept with up to three men in one day in the wake of her bitter divorce from Stephen Belafonte.

“I have made the decision to go into a proper therapy [program] in the next few weeks, but it has to be in the UK because I am very, very British and I know that will work best for me,” Mel B told The Sun in a statement on Sunday.

She also explained how she arrived at such a difficult decision following her divorce from Stephen Belafonte.

“The past six months have been incredibly difficult for me,” she told the publication. “I’ve been working with a writer on my book, Brutally Honest, and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life.

“Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel,” she added. “But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol– it is underneath all that. I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do — but I am dealing with it.”

She later shared why she is deciding to speak out.

“I am still struggling but if I can shine a light on the issue of pain, PTSD and the things men and women do to mask it, I will do,” she said. “I am speaking about this because this is a huge issue for so many people.”

Mel B shared these details, at almost the same time she shared a link to a website detailing an overview of PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder). “Knowledge is power,” she wrote alongside the link.

Tunde Bakare reveals he gave El-Rufai N160m to contest for Kaduna Governor in 2015

Pastor Tunde Bakare has disclosed that he gave a whooping N160million to the present Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai during his campaign in 2015.

Speaking last weekend in Scotland as a guest speaker, Bakare said that he gave the huge sum to the Governor as a loan to help him as a friend during his push for the seat and the Governor has since paid him back.

He said:

“The current governor of Kaduna State once stayed in my house and we discussed many political and personal issues. I wrote the foreword of his published book with the little information I knew about him then.

“I invited him from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join Congress For Progressive Change, CPC. When he was contesting for the governorship of Kaduna State, I contributed N160million for his electioneering campaign and he later paid me back,” Bakare told the audience”.

The popular clergy also revealed that asides paying back the loan, the Governor offered to make his (Bakare) son the MD/CEO of one of his companies, but he rejected the offer for some undisclosed reasons.

Bakare also spoke extensively on the theme of the event: “A New Nigeria Re-engineered, The Role Of The Diaspora” where he carefully analysed how some former African dictators plundered the resources of their respective countries while poverty ravaged the continent.

When challenged by one of the guests in the audience on his silence and non-criticism of Buhari’s government over the recent happenings in the country including allegations of sleaze among some government officials, the lawyer and Convener of Save Nigeria Group, said he does not believe in playing to the gallery.

“The Buhari I know will not steal money. Buhari is my friend but I am not afraid to tell him the truth. You don’t stab your friend in a public place. I know ways to reach out directly to Mr. President.

“If you notice, I did not really start to criticise Buhari until January this year. I once told him that you cannot consider yourself as clean if you surround yourself with many unclean people,” Bakare said.

He however said that with the present system in Nigeria, Buhari must be ‘repackaged’ and he must sack some bad eggs in his government to win hearts of Nigerians for 2019 election.

The famous pastor disclosed that he will give Buhari up till September ending to repackage himself and by October 7, he will tell the nation of his political move to salvage Nigeria.

Bakare then passionately advised Nigerians in the Diaspora to always think of how to contribute to the development of their country and not get involved in illegal things that can lead to their imprisonments and taint their reputation with criminal records.

“No matter the level of your positions or achievements in the United Kingdom, USA or any parts of Europe, you will still be treated like second-class citizens because of the colour of your skins.

“I also have a British passport because my wife was born in England. We have our own personal house in London and America.

But I always love to live in Nigeria, to rebuild the country. When I briefly lived in London in 1994, I did not stay in a rented apartment.

When people say we need a modern Nigeria, I always disagree because what we need is a new Nigeria because during my time in school, only people who could not afford to attend grammar schools always went to modern schools.”

At the end of the event, Bakare was presented with an award and decorated with the Fellowship of African Centre for Research, Policy and Development in conjunction with the University of West of Scotland, Paisley.
