Wizkid reconciles with Shatta Wale, hugs on stage at Event in Ghana

Wizkid reconciles with Shatta Wale

The Ghana-Meets-Naija event has come and gone.. and one of the high moments of the night was when Wizkid and Shatta reconciled and even performed together on stage.

Recall, Shatta once threatened Wizkid, warning him not to come to Ghana.. Apparently, it all started when the self-acclaimed king of Ghanaian dancehall music criticized Nigerian music sensation, Wizkid.

Wizkid reconciles with Shatta Wale

In the interview with Kasapa FM, Shatta expressed his displeasure over how Ghanaians, especially celebrities like, put Wikzid on a pedestal.

According to him, there is nothing exceptional about the afrobeats singer. He said Wizkid should be starstruck when he sees him (Shatta Wale).

“I will not see Wizkid and be stunned, I rather want him to see me and be amazed because I don’t see anything extraordinary about him, even though he claims to the best African artiste”, he said.

This of course caused uproar on social media, with many Nigerians and even Ghanaians attacking Shatta.

Even some Ghanaians apologized to Nigerians for the Shatta’s behaviour.. and we didn’t even see it coming.

Shatta during one of his rant, took to Facebook to share a video of himself with a gun, where he then threatened Wizkid.

Apparently, it seems as though the ‘spat’ is over as they singers have both put that behind them and reconciled!

I knew Ubi Franklin before he married Lilian Esoro – Tboss

Ex-BBN contestant, TBoss, has slammed those questioning her closeness to actress Lilian Esoro’s embattled husband, Ubi Franklin.

In a recent interview with Sunday Scoop, she revealed that she had known Franklin for 16 years, even before meeting Esoro. Her words, “I don’t see why I should not respond to people whenever they say rubbish on my page if I feel like doing so.

I don’t understand why people are concerned that I was hanging out with my friend. He is my friend and we didn’t talk about any issues with his wife and I didn’t know if they had divorced or not.

I have known Ubi for 16 years, which was before he met his wife. I don’t have to justify anything to anyone.” The former BBN contestant also insisted that Franklin was already separated before they started hanging out.

She said, “I don’t know why people are always on my case. Does it mean I cannot talk to a man without people insinuating I am having an affair with him?“

BankyW, & Filmmaker, Niyi Akinmolayan exchange words

BankyW & Niyi Akinmolayan

Niyi Akinmolayan, earlier today shared a post on his IG page where he stated some people might have committed suicide because they are done with the world and not out of depression.

He shared his opinion about suicide in the wake of the death of two international celebrities, Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdian who both committed suicide a week apart.

????????????????????????????????????

Banky W felt Niyi’s opinion on suicide is disgusting and shouldn’t have been aired as it was very insensitive to the families and loved ones the suicide victims left behind.

Niyi on the other hand is insisting that suicide victims should not be painted in a bad light when they are gone because some of them might have just taken the decision in good faith.

No Christian has come out to say “This is Nigeria” is a hate video – Falz finally speaks on MURIC threat

Since the release of his version of Childish Gambino’s “This is America”, which he titled, “This is Nigeria”, the rapper has remained in the news.. and was recently called out by an Islamic group named, “The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)”.

The Islamic group, apparently, claimed that the singer disrespected their religion, and as thus, threatened to sue the singer.

While addressing the issue, Falz referred to their claim as baseless.

In an exclusive chat with Ademola Olonilua of Punch, Falz spoke at length on the reaction that ensued the release of his This Is Nigeria video.

Read the excerpt below:

Barely a week after American artiste, Childish Gambino released his hit song, ‘This Is America’, you made the Nigerian version of the song, This Is Nigeria. How did you come up with the idea?

It was more than a week after Childish Gambino released his song, This Is America, that I released my version, This Is Nigeria. When I saw the Childish Gambino version, I liked the idea because I felt it was a very creative way to tell the American story especially as regards the political and social space over there. One day, I was listening to the song again and I got the idea of doing a remake of it from my own perspective as a Nigerian; so I decided to go for it.

One would have thought you would just do an audio version of the song but you went further to shoot a music video, why?

As soon as I recorded the audio, I thought that was half of the work. I had to do the video because the original song had a powerful visual. I believed that my work would be complete if I did a video as well. I wanted it to be equally as powerful as the Childish Gambino’s version so that it would resonate in our political and social space as well. Within about five days after recording the audio, I shot the video.

The video made its way to American rap legend, Diddy’s Instagram page. When you saw it, how did you feel?

It was very amazing. I did not expect that; neither did I see it coming, so I felt very excited because someone so influential like Diddy was giving me a nod of approval with the song. It was a great thing to witness. Growing up, I always saw him as an icon and Diddy is a legend. He is someone that we all looked up to growing up and we all know how influential he has been in the international hip-hop world. He was definitely one of the artistes that I looked up to as a young person.

Some Nigerians said that when you released the video, your colleagues did not applaud its creativity till Diddy posted it on his Instagram page…

I disagree with that because when I posted it on my page, I saw a lot of responses and comments from celebrities and other Nigerians that it was a creative work of art and they supported me. But definitely when Diddy posted the video on his page, more people commented.

An Islamic group, The Muslim Rights Concern, claims that you disrespected Islam by featuring girls in hijab dancing Shaku Shaku in the video. Why was that scene in your video?

I think it is very clear what that scene represented in the video. The message is very clear because the girls there symbolise the constant issues and troubles that face the innocent girl child in Nigeria, especially in the northern part of Nigeria. They have been victims of kidnappings and we have the case of the Chibok girls and recently the Dapchi girls. Till date, most of the Chibok girls have not been found while a Dapchi girl is still held captive. That is what those girls symbolise. I feel everyone got the message and it is absurd that a group of people like MURIC alleged that it is a hate video. I do not think that makes sense in any way because in the same video, I spoke about other issues like insecurity, corruption, and I even talked about pastors. No Christian has come out to say that it is a hate video; so what is MURIC talking about? I do not really understand them.

But why did the girls in hijab have to dance Shaku Shaku which is a secular dance step?

If you noticed, I was dancing as well and the dance was symbolic. The dance was symbolic of entertainment being a distraction from everything that is happening in our society. Shaku Shaku is the most popular dance step in Nigeria and it is currently in vogue; it is pretty clear that with all that is happening, everyone is embedded and carried away with the dance culture. I was just trying to say that everyone is too carried away with entertainment that they seem to forget all the things that are happening right in front of our faces.

Did you expect this kind of backlash from anyone especially the Muslim society?

I expected reactions, conversations, controversies but I did not expect that anyone would allege that it is a hate video or that the video would incite violence. There is no way that a video like that would incite violence.

We learnt MURIC wants to drag you to court. Is that true?

Yes. I feel it is very funny because there is no cause of action, to be honest. There is no law that is against young ladies dancing in hijab. There is absolutely no basis for a legal action, I mean, people dance in hijabs all the time in movies and parties. In fact, designers have made sportswear that have hijabs, so why are they not saying that is a disrespect to the religion? I think it is a baseless allegation.

So you are convinced that you did not insult the Islamic religion with the music video?

I have the utmost respect for Islam as well as every other religion but what I think our people need to focus more on is how to get away from being religious fanatics. It is one of our biggest problems and it was an issue I addressed in the same song and visual.

There are reports online that you said you are prepared to meet MURIC in court. Is that true?

If there is really going to be a court case, of course, I am prepared but there is none; there is no case here and I do not think it is anything that would hold water in any court. If they were to institute proceedings, I do not think it is something that would see the light of the day because there is no cause of action.

You once said that you want to be an activist through your music. With the heat this song has brought to your doorstep, do you think you are prepared to travel that path?

I am very prepared and I know that social conscious songs like this do not come without repercussions and reactions. They do not come without backlash. It is something I have thought about and it would definitely come my way but if you are going to speak the truth, then you have to stand for what is right. This is something I am going to continue to do and I would always stand for what is right.

How has your father reacted to the video and the controversy trailing it?

Political commentary and socially conscious music is something my father has always encouraged me to do; so he was happy when this came out.

Already there are memes on the internet about Falz vs MURIC. Are you aware?

Yes, I have seen some of them. All those memes make me laugh and they are quite funny. It is interesting to see them. Another interesting thing is that virtually everyone can see that MURIC does not have a case or meaningful allegation. With the memes and tweets I have been seeing, some people are even saying that if I take down the video, they would sue me. Some are saying that if I take down the video, they would upload it again so that MURIC should come and sue them. I read a lot of interesting tweets during the week. It is good to see that people are actually speaking out against these guys.

Are you not afraid for your life?

I am not afraid, I am protected by God. If I am speaking the truth which is the right thing to do; I don’t think anybody can harm me.

With this music video, you have set the bar high for your colleagues and yourself as well. What is next from your stable?

I am going to keep releasing a lot of more interesting music but as regards socially conscious songs, I am working on a complete project that would be dedicated to talking about societal ills. Aside from that, I would still release some feel-good music for people to dance to.

This is Nigeria: Femi Falana finally speaks, blasts Muslim group for threatening to sue his son, Falz

Human rights activist and renowned lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has dared the Muslims Rights Concern, MURIC, to sue his rapper son, Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz, if they are aggrieved by his trending ‘This is Nigeria’ video.

Recall that the group during the week released a statement, ordering Falz to take down “This is Nigeria” video which, according to them, ridicules their religion because some girls were seen in the footage wearing hijab and dancing Shaku Shaku.

They also threatened to take a legal action against the rapper after the expiration of the ultimatum given to him.

But reacting to the threat, the renowned lawyer told Vanguard that in as much as freedom of speech is constitutionally guaranteed in the country, nobody has the right to threaten another person.

According to him, the video in question contains a lot of messages and desired to be encouraged by anybody who has the interest of this country at heart.

Speaking further, Falana said he has confirmed that his son, who’s also a lawyer by profession is handling the threat within the ambit of the law.

“My son is a lawyer and I have confirmed that he’s handling the threat within the ambit of the law. The video in question contains a lot of messages and it should be encouraged by anybody who has the interest of our country at heart.

“Since the group has threatened to sue him or threatening to sue him. My son has promised that he would meet them in court. I support that decision.

“We all belong to this country, nobody can threaten another person. Freedom of speech is constitutionally guaranteed.

“If you are aggrieved as a result of any publication or record, the appropriate thing for you to do is to go to court. I’d hope that they will go to court at the expiration of the ultimatum given to my son,” said the renowned lawyer.

Vanguard Nigeria releases official statement disassociating itself from Ocherome Nnanna’s viral comment

Ocherome Nnanna, the Chairman Editorial Board of Vanguard Newspaper has turned heads with his careless statement.

This has caused the media company to release it’s official statement on the hateful and tribalistic speech.

Vanguard has disassociated itself from Ocherome Nnanna’s viral comment and reminded the general public of it’s brand promise to deliver the news as it is, without favour or contempt for a particular tribe.

Without disclosing details as to the sanction or punishment which awaits or currently meted on Nnanna, the newspaper pledged its commitment to serve the public, as it noted that his comment was private and indeed unnecessary.

I once used sandpaper to get rid of my tribal marks – Actor Afeez Owo

Afeez Abiodun is known for his tribal marks. While some might argue that he would have been more handsome without them, the actor disagreed.

He told Saturday Beats that he had to face reality and accept what his parents created on his face.

He opened up that he initially disliked the marks as a young boy and went to the extent of using sandpaper to get rid of them all to no avail simply because he was always taunted by bus conductors.

Owo added that he would never allow anyone inflict such scars on the face of his children.

“I am very comfortable with my tribal marks now and if anything ever wipes them off my face, I would feel bare or naked and my fans would not recognize me.

“While I was growing up in Surulere, there were a lot of times I was teased by people because of my tribal marks.

“They abused me so much but I did not care; today my tribal mark is my trademark.

“There was a time people teased me so much that I attempted to use sandpaper to wipe them off especially when bus conductors insulted me about it.

“They always picked on me and called me various names but I thank God for who I am today.

“I am also glad I did not get rid of the tribal marks. There is no insult anyone can dish out to me over my tribal marks that would hurt my feelings.

“Although I like my tribal marks, I can never allow anyone to give my children tribal marks,” he said.

The thespian went down memory lane with Saturday Beats as he spoke about how his parents did not support his career and he had to sponsor his education when he was in primary school.

“When I started my acting career, it was rough and tough. The first challenge I faced was from my parents who felt I did not know what I was doing with my life.

“I lived with them in Oyo State and they felt that I ought to go to school to study.

“They weren’t pleased with me, so they backed off and I had to finance my education from Primary 5 till I got to Form 5.

“When I got to Lagos, I had to fend for myself as well. I got a little place on Randle Avenue, Surulere and whenever I was going for rehearsals, I trekked from my house in Surulere to Saka Tinubu, Victoria Island.

“I never knew that I would become someone in life. I just went with hope and I had it in mind that if I passed out while trekking either to the venue or back home, then so be it.

“I got a breakthrough in 1998 and two years later, I produced my first movie,” Afeez Owo said.

“My daughter is not pleased with my raunchy pictures, videos” – Maheeda opens up.

Self acclaimed goddess of X has spoken out on her daughter’ perception of her activities online – though Maheeda started out as a gospel singer, her brand evolved as she began posting raunchy pictures and videos on social media.

While speaking in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Newspaper, Maheeda, who is in the wont of posting raunchy pictures and videos online, has opened up that her daughter does not really like her taking raunchy pictures.

She also talked about if she will have another baby by her oyinbo husband who she resides with in Netherlands.

She said,

“I don’t think my daughter likes some of the pictures I post online because sometimes when she sees me do it, she says it is disgusting. I don’t know if she is just being a teenager or she does not like it but she never complains about it.

“One of the reasons why I struggled to take her out of the country is that I want her to have a different mindset about s*x and life in general. So, she would have a different mentality when it comes to sexuality than the average Nigerian.

“The way an average Nigerian would reason about s”x is different from the way my daughter would see it. In the Netherlands, they use nudity a lot for their advertisements. For example, they could do an advert about milk and they would use a semi-nude model and show as she pours the milk on her body.

“In Nigeria, it is not allowed, it would be banned. That is why I decided to take her abroad. She would be 18 years old next year and she would be free to live on her own, so I am almost done in that area. She would be on a level where she could be on her own.”

When asked if she was willing to give motherhood another shot once her daughter is of legal age, she said that she would rather help the underprivileged children in the society rather than giving birth to another child.

“After 18 years of motherhood and all the suffering I faced while I was still a single mother, don’t you think I would want to relax and have the holiday of my life? Why would I want to have another kid? Personally, I like children and I see a lot of kids on the street and motherless babies’ home. I would rather help them,” Maheeda said.
