An Abuja High court yesterday sentenced former governor of Taraba state, Jolly Nyame, pictured above to 14 years in jail for misappropriating N1.64 billion while in office.
According to reports, Mr Nyame was found guilty of 27 out of 41 counts of alleged diversion of public funds while he served as governor of Taraba State.
He was charged by EFCC for allegedly diverting N1.64 billion while he served as governor between 1999 to 2007.
The judge sentenced the defendant to four different terms in prison, after finding him guilty of receiving gratification, obtaining public funds without due consideration, criminal breach of trust and gratification.

EFCC on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, secured the conviction and sentencing of an Internet fraudster, Oluwatobiloba Badejo, before Justice O.A. Williams of the State High court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
The convict was arraigned on May 25, 2018 on a two- count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents to the tune of N124, 937.53( One Hundred and Twenty- four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty-seven Naira, Fifty-three Kobo).
Count one reads:
“That you, Oluwatobiloba Badejo (aka Lynda Andrew) on or about the 20thof March, 2016, at Lagos within the Ikeja judicial Division, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N52, 937.53( Fifty-two Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty-seven Naira, Fifty- three Kobo) from one Manuel Alberto Rama Carracedo by falsely representing to him that you are a woman with the name Lynda Andre , which pretence you knew to be false.”
Count two reads:
“That you, Oluwatobiloba Badejo ( aka Lynda Andrew) on or about the 13thof June, 2016 at Lagos, within the Ikeja judicial Division by false pretence and with intent to defraud , obtained the sum of N72, 000( Seventy- two Thousand Naira) from one Manuel Alberto Rama Carracedo by falsely representing to him that you are a woman with the name Lynda Andrew, which pretence you knew to be false.”
He pleaded guilty to charge preferred against him after initially entering a plea bargain with the Commission to refund the sum of N124, 937.53 obtained from the victims and also forfeit to the Federal Government a Dell laptop computer, which he used “as the instrumentality of fraud.”
The judge, after hearing the terms of agreement reached by both the prosecution and counsel to the defendant, O. Odubela, SAN, had deferred judgment till today (May 30.)
Delivering his judgment, Justice Williams found the defendant guilty on both counts and sentenced him to one-year imprisonment.

Tonto Dikeh visited inmates of a prison in Niger State and declared that they deserve to be happy in spite of their condition.
While speaking on Tuesday during her visit to Suleja Prison in Niger state, the actress said they deserved the assurance that they have bright futures ahead.
Tonto, who visited under the auspice of Tonto Dikeh Foundation donated relief materials, including money to inmates.
The actress told NAN that the foundation, which is her humanitarian initiative, empowers and provides succour to the less privileged and vulnerable Nigerians.
“In line with our vision, I have come here to let the inmates know that we are not giving up on them and that they have a bright future ahead outside of this place,” she said.
“Whatever happens, they are still Nigerians, and needed to know that today is our Democracy day, and being made happy. They still have a lot to contribute to the society irrespective of their present circumstances.”
Apart from the relief items, she also paid for the release of an inmate who was in detention because he was unable to provide the said bail term.
It was gathered that volunteer medical and public health experts of the Tonto Dikeh Foundation, also had interactive sessions with them, where they were given opportunities to ask questions on female health.
The female inmates were taught how to use pads and dispose of them, wash their body, and handle menstrual pains.Baba Ibrahim, deputy controller (DCP) of the Suleja Prison, who received the items on behalf of the inmates, commended Tonto Dikeh and her foundation for the benevolence.
He, however, urged other Nigerians of goodwill and NGOs to emulate the kind gesture to complement government’s effort in taking care of prisoners.

Around April or May of 2010 I walked into a church called Commonwealth of Zion Assembly on a Tuesday service and my life changed forever.
Fast forward to 2015, I told Pastor Biodun about my perfume business and then he travelled to Dubai.
I met him again and he brought out his phone and began to show me pictures of perfumes and by August 24, 2015 he put a million Naira in my hands and said these life changing words “this money will not finish, go and explode and takeover”
Ladies and gentlemen from that day, I began to experience high finance, there is no single day in the last 3 years that I don’t get credit alert on my phone because a man of God commanded it!
Some people forget who their man of God is and the people who helped them when money comes but I will never forget and I must never forget Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo if I want to retain the anointing.
I must keep celebrating and honouring my man of God. For those of you who use your man of God as toothpick and chewing gum and listen to Daddy Freeze and co, keep it up.

In an interview with Lanre Odukoya, Shina Peller revealed that despite his father being a magician, he never used voodoo during the performance of his magical art.
My dad’s religion was Islam and his profession was magic. If you see my dad the same way you see Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and King Sunny Ade, you would be fair. You wouldn’t find my dad doing magic somewhere and there were no people paying to watch him. So, it was an art he didn’t need voodoo to do,” he said.
”That’s just the way we Nigerians look at things. We live in a very funny country where people hardly see things in the right perception most times. Magic is a profession, it’s not a religion, they’re two parallel lines that can never meet.
He also spoke on why his night club shuts down for a full month in every year.

Controversial Nigerian journalist, Kemi Omololu Olunloyo after days of tantrum-throwing towards celebrity blogger, Linda Ikeji, has finally revealed the history of her beef with the latter.
This comes just days after she apologized to Linda after she was asked to by popularly Nigerian big boy, Hushpuppi as a condition to get favors from him.
According to Kemi Olunloyo, who claims to be the first Nigerian blogger, she crossed paths with Linda Ikeji when she had a s*xual affair with the fiance of her cousin named Adeola Olunloyo some 12 years ago.
“Linda and I have had a feud forever. Many of you don’t know what this feud is about. Lets give an example, the average age of persons out here taking panadol for Linda’s headache, cursing me on my pages is 25. 12 years ago, how old were you? 13. Did you know Linda at 13? No. You were a kid” she said.
The journalist went on to narrate how she visited Nigeria from the U.S in the year 2006 for the society wedding of her cousin named Deola Olunloyo, a journalist too who was set to get married to one high-profile Black American broadcaster, Dan Foster.
Things then went south when Deola learned about Linda’s affair with Dan Foster forcing her to back out of the wedding which had already been fixed with food materials and drinks already purchased.
“Deola Olunloyo, my cousin was marrying a high-profile On-Air-Personality, Dan Foster of Cool FM. Dan was an American, good-looking….big wedding. My uncle, Uncle Diti…he is dead now and all the Olunloyos had prepared this big wedding. Food, cows and everything and Deola was going to get married, a high society wedding” she emphasized.
“About two and a half weeks before the wedding, everything was cancelled. Food was wasted, cows..everything. What happened? What could have happened? Johnson was jailed for a first time, nonviolent drug offence in 1997, and is still serving a life sentence at Aliceville Correctional Facility, in Alabama.
At the time, The Tennessean reported that Johnson led a ‘multimillion-dollar drug ring that dealt in tons of cocaine from 1991-94’.
A Kenyan Prostitute turned Pastor identified as Jane Watiri, has talked about her life way back when she was earning close to Sh20,000 a night – Watiri said she was a “destroyer,” driven by vengeance against men.
She was not on Koinange Street – the city’s red-light-district just for the money, but also for revenge. According to Jane, she turned the heartbreak she suffered when she was betrayed by a man into a personal vendetta against all men.
“I was not the average prostitute,” she says, adding, “I was quite dangerous. I used to steal from my clients. I would carry everything; clothes, shoes, phones, keys and even wedding rings which I sold for Sh3,000 in Eastleigh. I used to really mess up those men,”she says.
“I had some friends who would take me out to clubs and reggae nights when I was 14,”she recalls. The teenager then sunk into a life of clubbing and alcoholism as her mother watched helplessly.
When she was 16, Ms Watiri was arrested, charged with loitering and jailed at Lang’ata Women’s Prison for a month. When she got out, she met a young man, fell in love, got pregnant and got married. “One day, he left me for an older woman and there I was, 17 years old, with a baby boy, no education and no job. I was very angry,” she says.
She was in Koinange street seven years: “I wanted to hurt men the way the father of my child did to me. Bitterness and unforgiveness can really destroy your life.” She says she would change her look weekly so as not to be recognised by clients she had stolen from.
The life of a sex worker, according to Ms Watiri, is punctuated by dangerous clients, drug and alcohol abuse, arrests, disease and death.
While majority of clients would pay for sex, others just wanted to be in the company of a woman and have someone to pour out their hearts to.
Others demanded unusual activities and would threaten with guns and other weapons if the sex-workers did not comply. Many of her colleagues died on the job. Some would be killed in hotel rooms and others would get into clients’ vehicles and vanish or be found dead in a ditch.
According to Nation.co.ke, Watiri who has a baby said times she would also drug her baby to make him sleep throughout the night or just leave him to cry himself to sleep.
She would carry two rolls of marijuana, one soaked in petroleum which would knock out the client, and the other one for her, to put her in the mood for work.
“In our days we did not have what people today call mchele. That was the surest way of drugging your client,” she says.
A woman who is almost a nonagenarian, has reportedly graduated from college and is already pursuing another degree.
89 year old Ella Washington, who is also a new college graduate isn’t stopping there as she’s already working towards a bachelor’s degree, USA Today reports.
According to the college, Ella Washington, who graduated Saturday with an associate degree in interdisciplinary studies, is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in history at Liberty University in Virginia, according to the college.
Washington enrolled in Liberty’s online program in 2012, following a suggestion from one of her 12 children.
“She has always been a lifelong learner,” Washington’s daughter, Ellen Mitchell, said in a statement. “Her desire for learning and for pursuing an education became a family tradition. She taught all of her children how to read, write, and do math prior to their beginning school, just as her grandmother taught her and her siblings.”
As for her drive to learn more about history, Washington said “everybody should know their history and learn more about it … There’s nothing wrong with learning more.”
During her 89 years on earth, Washington has worked a variety of jobs to support her children, ranging from a custodian at the Pentagon to an office assistant to a certified nursing assistant at an adult daycare. She only stopped working about six years ago, according to a press release.
“Coming to D.C., there weren’t many opportunities for a poorly educated black woman,” Mitchell said. “But she worked hard doing whatever she could to make sure we were taken care of.”

The video of a Nigerian pastor placing curses on his church members and intimidating them into donating huge sums and possessions to the church has emerged, on social media.
In the video, the pastor is seen speaking to a poor woman whose child has a health issue – he tells the woman he wants her to present the documents to a piece of land and not just in any area like Sango but he wants about 100 acres of land to build an estate in Magodo.
The desperate woman is seen promising to present the land document if he helps her but he hesitated. He said he only worked that way in the past and doesn’t work in that manner anymore.
The woman then promised to bring the land documents the following Sunday.
He added that he can’t waste his anointing on anyone telling the congregation that he didn’t force them to come and he isn’t begging for money from anyone but once their prayers are answered, there is no looking back.

The Super Eagles team on Wednesday, arrived at the presidential villa, Abuja for a farewell meeting with the head of states – while receiving the team at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, President Buhari charged the Super Eagles to make the country proud at the 2018 FIFA World Cup starting on June 14 in Russia.
He said: “We look up to you to make us proud.”
Noting that Super Eagles is one of the least experienced teams in the tournament, the President urged the players to take advantage of Nigerians’ support.
Buhari reminded the players they carry the emotions of 180 million Nigerians each time they go out to the pitch to play, adding nothing unites Nigeria more than football.
Captain of the team, Mikel Obi, said:
“All we have to do now is to go out there and make the country proud and come back with the trophy.”

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has sentenced former Taraba State governor, Jolly Nyame, to 14 years in prison without an option of fine.
According to reports, Mr Nyame was found guilty of 27 out of 41 counts of alleged diversion of public funds while he served as governor of Taraba State.
He was charged by EFCC for allegedly diverting N1.64 billion while he served as governor between 1999 to 2007.
The judge sentenced the defendant to four different terms in prison, after finding him guilty of receiving gratification, obtaining public funds without due consideration, criminal breach of trust and gratification.
The various sentences include a time of prison for two, five, seven and 14 years respectively.
The judge Adebukola Banjoko however noted that the terms are expected to run concurrently, meaning he would serve 14 years in jail unless the conviction is upturned by a higher court.
In the lengthy judgement that lasted over four hours, the judge narrated how several witnesses brought to court by both parties corroborated the allegation of fraud against the defendant.
The EFCC presented various witnesses who alluded to the fact that Mr Nyame approved the diversion of various funds amounting to over N345 million to a company, Saman global, within five weeks in 2005, among other allegations.
The court held that Nyame is guilty of over half of the charges. According to the judge, Adebukola Bankole, the actions of the perpetrators under the watch of the ex-governor can be likened to the story of Alibaba and the 40 thieves.
A Tanzanian man has according to viral reports, committed suicide following Liverpool’s loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final played in Kiev on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Moses Mashaka, a second Year student at St Augustine University of Tanzania pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
Mashaka had placed a bet on the game, predicting that Liverpool will be crowned champions. According to the Police, the case was reported by the landlady.
Mbeya Regional Police Commander Musa Kaibu confirmed this report. Mr Kaibu said he received the preliminary reports at 10a.m. Mr Mashaka was a second year students at St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT).
He was a second year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Rpc Kaibu stated that the landlady is the one who reported the case to the police. The case is still being investigated, RPC Kaibu said.
Nigerian Zonal PPRO, Dolapo Badmus has said that the family members and friends of any erring police officer are to be blamed for their misconduct.

I could remember as I passed out from Police Academy in the year 2002, a visit to my father was met by a deluge of advice, he used almost 2hours to lecture me and remind me of how my joining the Police is to serve the country and not to take advantage of anyone, every time before his departure to the great beyond he calls to remind me that I should be a good ambassador of my family !!! That’s the word “Good Ambassador “ Every police officer must be consciously supported and be reminded by family members on how to remain the family’s good ambassadors, I’ll bet if our family members are on our cases we probably won’t have anyone of us doing what is illegal and abnormal. As police officers we are supposed to be above board shunning any form of corruption and human right abuse! The long and short of the story is that friends and families of any erring police officer should be blamed for their misconduct!! It’s time for every family and communities that have a loved one in the police to reach out to them and start reminding them to be good ambassadors to them and by extension Nigeria!
