“We are still recovering from the trillions of Naira stolen by people without conscience” – Buhari

President Buhari says his administration is still recovering trillions of naira stolen by people without conscience in the country.

The President said this at the commissioning of the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja yesterday May 15th.

He said;

“Throughout my journey in national service and since 2015, I have made a very conscious decision to pursue a vigorous fight against corruption in public life. Since 2015, we have made significant progress in the fight against corruption. Everyone now knows that corrupt officials will be held to account, no matter how long it takes. We have recovered and are still recovering trillions of naira that were stolen in the past few years by people without conscience. We are pursuing recoveries everywhere and are making sure that anyone who has been found culpable is made to answer for his or her crime under the law.

“It is my hope and expectation that the judiciary, which is a critical stakeholder and partner in the war against corruption, would continue to collaborate with the Executive to bring corrupt people to book. Permit me to also seize this opportunity to call on the Legislature which provides the legal framework for the anti-corruption war to add more verve to the determination of government to rid our nation of the brazen corruption witnessed in recent years, through reviewing archaic provisions in our laws and proactive passage of new legislation,”.

Speaking further, President Buhari said ;

“Corruption not only kills governments but destroys societies. It is the major reason why we are struggling with basic developmental issues that other comparable nations have long overcome.

War of corruption is not an easy one to fight, because it affects so many different branches of our lives, so much that some people do not even consider breaking trust is anymore a crime.

It has become the norm. That is why we must fight this attitude and encourage Nigerians to change their attitudes and perspectives.

The goal of this Administration is to ensure the protection of public trust, and the anti-corruption war is at its centre.

We never intended, and we are not engaged in witch-hunts, but we are determined within the laws to call people to account.

It is for this reason that we appeal to Nigerians to support regulatory agencies like Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, because fighting corruption is everyone’s concern.

I call on the Judiciary and the National Assembly to join hands in this national effort”.

Saudi Arabia said that the Ramadan fasting will begin on Thursday across the globe, the official Saudi news agency SPA reported on Tuesday.

The new moon of Ramadan was not spotted on Tuesday evening and Wednesday will mark the last day of the Islamic month of Shaaban, SPA said, citing religious authorities in the kingdom.

The beginning and end of Islamic months are determined by the sighting of the new moon.

Egypt’s Mufti, the country’s top religious authority, said in a televised speech that the holy month will start on Thursday in the most populous Arab country.

Also, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Iraq’s Sunni Muslim minority also announced that the holy month of Ramadan will start on Thursday.

During Ramadan, Muslims have to abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from dawn to sunset.

Devout Muslims also mark the month by intense worship, performing special nightly prayers and reading Islam’s holy book, the Koran.

Fasting is one of Islam’s five pillars, alongside declaration of monotheism, prayer five times a day, alms-giving, and the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel has stated that the intake of the drug Tramadol by youths is as a result of the level of low self-esteem they suffer.

According to him, young people only take the illicit drugs to boost their confidence and act in a manner they would never have considered if they were in their right senses.

Majid Said ;

“I think we have to tackle it from the root. I think most of the youth have lost their sense of identity that is who they are. So they believe if they go to take a drug, it gave them the confidence to do certain things they were not able to do when they are normal and it’s an addiction.”

“It is also an appetite so when they become normal {or] sober, they realize the appetite comes back,” he added.

He has commended the EFCC over the arrest of 6 internet fraudsters at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Big Brother Naija 2018 winner, Miracle and his beloved brother, Captain Godwin Igbokwe have given conflicting accounts about his relationship with ‘Aunty Juliet’ rumoured to be his bedmate or Sugar-Mommy (if you like).

Recall Captain Igbokwe referred to Juliet as Miracle’s aunt.

It would be recalled that social Media got buzzing over the weekend with claims and pictures that the winner of the just concluded BBNaija reality show, Miracle, had a sugar mummy.

However, Miracle’s brother, Captain Igbokwe, reacted to the allegation on behalf of his brother.

Captain Igbokwe, took to his Instagram page to address the issue in a video to say the woman known as Juliet was actually their aunt.

He said ;

“Juliet is Miracle’s aunt, it is insulting because someone is hurt or you have been unable to see Miracle outside the house then try to fabricate stories.

“In our family, we love each other dearly and down to earth. And then someone calls my aunt, my brother’s sugar mummy it is unfair. How do you expect people to see her in public, this is a woman who has a reputation?”

Meanwhile, some social media users who have been digging into his private life presented an old interview Miracle granted immediately on his return to Nigeria from South Africa during which he referred to the ‘Juliet’ as a ‘family friend’ who has been assisting him financially.

Miracle’s version ;

“She is a family friend, she’s someone that actually helped me out when it comes to me being a pilot.

“A lot of people helped me out. She is one of the persons that actually helped me and I learnt alot from her.

“I know her she is into exporting.

“There was a time she actually offered to pay me one or two things in order for me to raise money for my training (aviation school).

“She was there for me. Trust me.”

The conflicting information has further being questioned as people raise eyebrows on why Miracle has suddenly lost his voice with his brother now assuming the position of his scribe when he is alive and healthy.

A 9-year-old schoolgirl identified as Anaya Ellick, has achieved an outstanding feat after she received two national awards for her exceptional writing skills.

The achievement of the little girl who is a third-grader in Chesapeake area of Virginia, United States, is remarkable because she has found a way to be the best at writing despite the fact that she was born without hands.

Ellick was named the winner of the 2018 Nicholas Maxim Award, part of the 2018 Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest, on Thursday, April 26.

The award recognizes students with special-needs who have developed an exceptional skill in handwriting. In 2016, the 9-year-old was also named winner of the contest’s print category.

It was gathered that the little who doesn’t use prosthetic hands, learned how to hold a pencil between her arms to draw and write.

Ya girl is pregnant, Spinal Cord Injury and all, and all the glory belongs to God.

I have been enjoying all of the ups and not so “ups” that come with being pregnant and I truly only have God to praise.

From missing my period, to our first at home pregnancy test, the first doctor’s appointment, the first ultrasound, first heartbeat, first flutters and kicks, up till the excitement of finding out our baby’s gender and my joy to start a baby registry, we have been on an all time HIGH!

As I type this, I’m thinking back to the nights my husband and I have spent just being in awe of this new life growing inside of me as a result of our love, and it’s still so surreal!

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Angel, took to his Instagram page earlier today to share the story of how his brother survived an act of police brutality in Ondo state.

According to him, an angry police officer shot at a commercial bus his brother took from Ondo to Rivers state.

The brother however survived without any harm.

The wrestlers ended their engagement last month after six years together, amid speculation that John’s resistance to have kids caused strain on the relationship.

A Nigerian woman has decried the behaviour of her husband who starves her emotionally and sexually and is also physically abusive towards her.

The woman who hails from Anambra state, Nigeria, went to the humanitarian group Due Process Advocate, DPA to seek help as regards her predicament.

She stated that her husband beats her, even when she’s pregnant, cheats on her, and never makes love to her except she begs for it.

She said: “I have to beg him before he make love to me. Sometimes he give me half chop and complain tiredness. I will endure because I am from poor family.”

The mother-of-five said he also intimidates her such that she can’t talk back at him – she went on to say that he dates married women within their neighborhood, even women in their compound and in their street.

He doesn’t try to hide it and goes as far as answering their calls in her presence. But she can’t confront him because that will only result in more beatings.

Having endured these, she now wants to leave the marriage but doesn’t know how to proceed, especially as the man only paid her bride price and they never had a traditional, court or church marriage.

Nigerian man tells his kids their mother is dead, then beats her when she shows up years later to reunite with her kids

A mother has cried out after her husband battered her because she reunited with her kids years after he took them from her and lied to them that she was dead.

The unnamed woman cried out to the advocacy agency DPA after she was beaten so bad, she lost a tooth and was bleeding.

In a message sent to the agency, she revealed that her husband sent her away 5 years after their marriage, then he married a second wife.

He then enrolled their kids in a school far from home and told the school authorities that his wife is dead and no one is allowed to come visiting his kids.

A Thai woman identified as Ejan has gone online to show the result of eyebrow tattoo job she did.

According to the woman, she paid just 200 baht for the pair of tattoos that were just thick lumps that look like caterpillars.

“I met the tattooist through work, He said he had done his wife’s and they looked OK. So for only 200 baht I thought why not. I never thought they would be that thick”.

Ejan is not the only victim of an eyebrow tattoo gone wrong as there have also been similar cases in the past.

Kanyarat Chaichan, 26, was left with thick, black, strangely shaped brows thanks to a not-so-brilliant job by an inexperienced tattoo artist.

Keen to hop on the full brows trend, Kanyarat had invested in tattoos to fill in her naturally light eyebrows.

But things went a bit wrong. Sadly, Kanyarat knew she couldn’t afford to have her new eyebrows removed, so she decided to settle in and accept the 1cm wide slugs above her eyes.

Model, Amber Rose has deleted the message she posted on social media professing her love for her ex- man, rapper, 21 Savage.

She took this action after 21 Savage gave a very savage response to her heartfelt message.

Shortly after Rose shared the message online, calling Savage her ‘heart and soul’, he replied with a post on his Instagram account that reads:

“You cross me once it’s f*#% you for life.”

Savage didn’t mention Amber’s name but everyone could tell he was referring to her and it’s kinda apparent that she caught the sub as she quickly went to her Instagram page to delete the message she wrote declaring her undying love for him.

This past weekend, Ghanaian actor and one of the country’s most eligible bachelors, John Dumelo, traditionally got married to his gorgeous fiancee, Gifty Mawunya at her family house in Spintex, Accra.

EFCC arrests six yahoo boys with 10 laptops, 17 phones & a car in Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has arrested six suspected internet fraudsters also known as ‘yahoo yahoo boys’.

The suspected fraudsters were said to have been picked up in one of their hideouts, Kubwa area, Abuja.

The suspects are Ihoeghian Aghasomwan, Precious Osarumen, Enabulele Osazee Frank, Osahon Scott, Efe Ehieorobo and Peter James.

According to Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, the operation was carried out on Friday, May 11 by the advance fee fraud section of the commission following an intelligence report on the activities of the suspected fraudsters.

“Surveillance was carried out and the identity and location of the fraudsters who specialize in defrauding innocent citizens both within and outside the country through internet was identified,” Uwujaren said.

“On arrest, some of [the] items recovered from the suspects include – one Toyota Camry 2009, 10 laptop computers, 4 ECOWAS International passports, 17 mobile phones, 2 flash drive, HP printer and Certificate of Award of Asian Professional Security Association in favour of Sun Yaje.

“Also recovered was a travelling bag and air piece check-in bag suggesting Abuja as its destination dated March 19, 2018 labelled with two paper clearance certificate of Custom Controlling Department, International Affairs China, No: 00548 and TDK courier service worldwide express service shipment details with track No: ME103178131.”

The EFCC said the suspects will be charged to court as soon as its investigation is concluded.
