Football fans in Nigeria witnessed an incredible afternoon on Sunday 17th of December 2017 when Guinness Made of Black ambassador Thierry Henry, visited Nigeria to celebrate the unique passion for football among fans in the country.
At the Guinness Fanzone event, which held at Landmark event centre in Lagos, winners of the ‘Be A Front Row Fan’ National Consumer Promotion had the opportunity to watch the West Brom v Manchester United game and celebrate Made of Black Moments with the football legend.
Speaking at the event, Peter Ndegwa, Managing Director, Guinness said; “Thierry Henry is an international icon of the highest calibre, we are proud to have him as an ambassador of our Made of Black Programme.”
“Henry carved his own path to bring his creative flair to the game, he worked hard to demonstrate his skill and ability; ultimately changing the way the game was played in England and showing that he was truly Made of Black. He is an inspirational ambassador for our Made of Black campaign.”
The high point of the event was the unveiling of Nigeria’s brand new Made of Black ambassador, Goodluck Obieze; an amputee footballer with an incredible passion for football.
As a child, Goodluck dreamed of playing football and leaving his village to be in the city and make it as a footballer. But his dream of becoming a footballer was put in jeopardy when he lost one of his legs in an accident.
This didn’t stop him from following his dream. He came to Lagos where he found his team and he is now their captain. He found his wife. He set up his own thriving keke napep business. And he found a life that he loves.
On selection of Goodluck Obieze as Made of Black ambassador, Adenike Adebola, Marketing Director Guinness said, “Goodluck is truly Made of Black, a man who showed real determination to write his own rules and carve his own path in life. He has an incredible story which should inspire every Nigerian.
We have a number of projects in store this year working with Goodluck. We, at Guinness believe that football and people’s passion for the game can unite Nigerians to do incredible acts, and this is just one of the activities we will be doing this year – watch this space!”
The evening was rounded off with live music performances from the duo Small Doctor and Phyno, artists that have distinguished themselves by building enviable careers through sheer determination and hard work; attributes that personify the Made of Black Spirit.
Over the next year, Guinness will be celebrating and uniting passionate football fans and rewarding them through incredible football experiences that only Guinness can provide.
This will include Fanzone activations for thousands of fans across the country with live football and music experiences.
In addition, Guinness will continue to sponsor EPL broadcasts through DSTV ensuring that all football fans can continue to follow their passion with friends and family over a cold Guinness in their homes or at their favourite bar.
Guinness embodies the Made of Black mindset. It is an iconic beer that has the darkest liquid, but the brightest flavours. A beer that has lived in the hearts and minds of millions in Africa and across the world for over 250 years but has always had the authenticity, boldness, and vision to do things differently.
The “Be A front Row Fan’ National Consumer Promo runs until January 31st, 2017, and will still be rewarding consumers who choose Guinness Foreign Extra Stout as their first drink in bars. Consumers will win One Million Naira (N1, 000, 000) Five Thousand Naira (N5, 000) and loads of airtime.
To participate in the promo, buy a bottle of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, send the code under the crown cork to 1759 and get a chance to join in the amazing fanzone experiences all over the country.

The President’s and the Vice-President’s pay is low, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said yesterday.
He criticised the private sector for not respecting the national minimum wage law, which puts the lowest pay at N18,000.
Speaking at the end-of-year seminar of the State House Press Corps at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Prof. Osinbajo said he earns about N1.5m as Vice-President; President Buhari earns about N1.75 million.
To him, the pay is not commensurate with the offices they occupy.
The vice president also expressed misgivings about the remuneration of journalists and lawyers, saying journalists’ case is unique because many media owners make big revenue but simply refuse to pay good wages.
He recalled his brief encounters working with media houses as legal adviser and how in all the months he worked he was not paid despite the irregular hours he put in.
Osinbajo spoke of entry into journalism as not rigorously regulated or enforced by professional bodies because untrained persons are allowed in.
He added: ”I realised first of all that this (journalism) is not a profession from which one could make a decent living in the first place unless you find a really good way of doing so.
”But more importantly for me is that you are just on your own. Journalism as a profession is so wide open.
”There are a few reasons in my view why remuneration is poor.
”The first is that it is just simply cheating. There are owners of media that are just cheats. They just want to get something from nothing and that is not uncommon, it is a general malaise, it is not necessarily restricted to the media.
”It is also the same in the legal profession. There many lawyers if they tell you what they earn, you will certainly not want to be a lawyer.
”The private sector does not respect the minimum wage. Even if a minimum wage is set nationally, it is not necessarily respected by the private sector and this is something that should be factored in to the status of a company and whether a company is even complying with the requirements.”
The Vice-President urged journalists to brighten their prospects and future by always seeking ways of improving themselves and getting better job opportunities with attendant improved income.
Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Kwara, was the chairman of the ceremony.
He said: “It is important to note that a good retirement plan starts the very day you are employed, knowing that whatever has a beginning has an end; 35 or 60 mandatory years of service are certainly not eternity.
”It must also be stressed here that it is not too late to plan even where you have just few years to retire from service.
”The most important thing is that you have a plan either of money saved or of the job you intend to carry on after retirement. Put every other factor in place such as your age, strength and the mental capacity to carry on.” he advised.
He added “It is important to state, therefore, that the uncertainty on payment of entitlements has continued to worry Nigerian workers, making them fear retirement.
”This has led to prospective retirees falsifying their age just to enable them stay put in the service.
”In this regard, a lot of corruption induced activities have continued to infiltrate the MDAs and the organised private sector responsible for managing pension,” he said.
Kwara listed 10 ways to prepare for retirement, including saving, knowing your retirement needs and contributing to an employer’s retirement savings plan.
Others, according to him, are learning about employer’s pension plan, considering basic investment principles, not touching your retirement savings, asking employer to start a plan, think of creative ways to be self sustaining, find out about one’s social security benefits, and asking questions.
The guest lecturer and Chairman of Elumelu Foundation, Tony Elumelu, said retirement should not be synonymous with being tired or giving up as it should be a stepping stone.
He advised working journalists to pursue their purposes with passion, stressing the need to increase capacity in readiness for the next phase
He said: “Entrepreneurship is not a function of age. Set your milestones and work towards accomplishing the milestone.
”Entrepreneurs are resilient; they persevere to succeed. You don’t need to give up easily, it requires sacrifice, discipline.”
Others who presented goodwill messages were Minister of Information Lai Mohammed; Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) to the President Femi Adesina.

She was just 49 , a Registrar in a University. Her first child/daughter was already a Medical doctor at 25 And about to get married. Invitations have gone out and they were just waiting for the great day which never came! The marriage was to take place 2 weeks ago. Mum and daughter left their base,PH to Onitsha to get souvenirs/ stuffs for the wedding and that was it! Death struck!
My heart goes out to their families .
How would one begin to console them? What would you say to the man who.lost a wife and a daughter? Or the children or the young girl’s husband? OMG!!!
Life and Death!
Just before you brag and boast and threaten others, remember that this life is so transient, so fleeting and ephemeral. Before you complain of all the things you couldnt get, remember that BEING ALIVE IS A PRIVILEGE.
I am just imagining the feeling in their households now. The man of the house and the bridegroom of the dead lady will still not have recovered from this shock, if they will ever. Sad!!
Rest in peace mother and child. At least, you won’t have any more worries again!
My condolences to the family. May God give you and your entire family the fortitude to bear this IRREPARABLE LOSS.
Fans of one time Africa’s most popular group, P Square, who still hold high hopes of a reunion, have been told to perish the thought…
P Square, comprising twin brothers Peter and Paul, went their separate ways under controversial circumstances some few months ago, signalling the end of an era of the most successful duo on the continent.
In spite the bitter parting of ways, some fans still held high hopes that the brothers will reunite for the sake of music but Peter Okoye, the younger of the twins, who has been more vocal about standing on his own, advised such fans to get used to seeing him and his twin brother perform as solo artists.
Peter, who expressed these views in a recent interview with Silverbird TV, pointed out that he just had a successful solo tour in the U.S and ahead of his Europe tour beginning March 2018, he is set to put out more materials so his fans can hear something new following the release earlier of two singles ‘cool it down’ and ‘for my head’.
Speaking on the chances of a P Square comeback, he said:
“I don’t think it is happening (on their reunion). Like I said ‘change is constant’. At the moment, we’re all doing our individual stuff. Music is what I do for a living; I’m an entertainer, a singer, a dancer, a performer and I want to keep it that way”.
On whether there’s pressure on him to live up to expectation of P Square fame, Peter had this to say:
“People think there’s probably pressure, but trust me there’s none. I’ve done a lot of rehearsal, I’ve done my research and all; I’m moving forward. At the moment, it’s the thing (moving forward) now for me. I just came back from a U.S tour – fantastic tour – and I’m doing Europe in March, April and May (next year). I’m going to miss Nigeria but that’s why I’m trying to put out more materials before the tour so I can be able to promote them when I’m out there.”

Husband of the man whose wife allegedly flogged a teacher, Rita Makachi to death at the Starlight Secondary School, Ogidi, Anambra State has pleaded with the deceased’s family to forgive her.
The man (name withheld) blamed the devil for the unfortunate incident.
The suspect, only known as Chinaza’s mum, had allegedly flogged the school teacher with a stick which led to her death after the daughter came home with the report of how she was flogged by her teacher for not sweeping the classroom.
Speaking to newsmen in his Ogidi residence, the man claimed since the incident, his wife has shown remorse and that their daughter had also been reprimanded for pushing her mom into committing the barbaric act.
He said:
“I condemn completely the action of my wife, which she is presently regretting. I plead with the deceased family to forgive her.
“The devil set a trap and she fell in through her daughter. If I were to be at home that fateful day when my daughter came reporting, I would have sent her back.
“A child should be reprimanded for her wrong doings. The teachers are there to train them for the good of the society. If today’s children are left unchecked, they would constitute a burden to the society tomorrow”
The man, who said he could not afford the cost of autopsy on the deceased teacher, expressed gratitude to the police for releasing his daughter due to her age, which makes her a minor.
He also expressed optimism that the incident will make the daughter appreciate life better as he grows older.
At a funeral service of a man in Umuduru Village, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, an alleged drunk sex worker got into sexual activity with a man who was actually there for the mournful ceremony, right in front of other sympathizers.
Sympathizers were shocked at what was going on right in front of them, so they descended on the duo – the sex worker escaped but the man wasn’t so lucky as the youths at the funeral descended on him with beatings. Fortunately for him though, he was rescued by the elders of the community.
According to Southern City News after the elders rescued the man, they asked him to present them with six cartons of beer and some money, which they’d use to appease the gods of the land. Read what an anonymous witness said about the incident below:
“This abominable act took place during a burial ceremony of a lady at Umuduru Village, Ihiala.
“It was gathered from an eyewitness that a woman believed to be a commercial sex worker living in one of the brothels in this community, apparently under an influence, said she wanted to perform `a show’.
“As part of the show, she stripped and dragged a young man simply known as `Chinwuba’ from Ogboro Umunwaji Village in Ihiala out of the crowd. Both engaged in a sex orgy right in front of onlookers with impunity.
“Some angry youths pounced on them and in the process, the lady escaped. But Chinwuba was not that lucky. It took the intervention of the elders who restrained the irate youths from sending the man to his early grave. “The elders fined him six cartons of beer and an undisclosed amount of money. They (elders) said the fine was to appease the gods of the land for the abominable act,” the source stated.

New reports have it that Saudi Arabia’s Crowned Prince Mohammed bin Salman is the buyer of a French Chateau Louis XIV that became the world’s most expensive property when it sold for $300million in 2015.
According to reports, the palace which boasts of Chapel-style vaulted ceiling, aquarium moat, cinema, underground nightclub, wine cellar, home theatre and a moat filled with koi carp was kept hidden at the time behind a series of shell companies based in France and Luxembourg.
But after an investigation by the New York Times, it was found that the companies are all owned by Eight Investment Company, a Saudi firm managed by the head of the prince’s personal foundation.
Advisers to the Saudi royal family confirmed to the Times that the palace ultimately belongs to Salman.
Before the chateau was sold to Salman, Kim Kardashian was spotted checking out the property as a potential venue for her wedding to Kanye.
The Times also believe that the crown prince is behind the recent purchase of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi which became the most expensive artwork after it was sold for $450million earlier this month,
Although, Bader bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan al-Saud, another Saudi prince, was named as the buyer of the painting.

Looks like the contract saga between award-winning singer, Kiss Daniel and his former record label, G-worldwide is not nearly over.
Recall, it was reported how Kiss Daniel earned 30k monthly salary for a long time and how he legally terminated his contract a few months back.
In case you missed it, the label stated that the singer is in breach of contract and is evading court papers, his legal team, L&A Associates then released an exhaustive statement detailing Daniel’s dealings with the label, the unfair treatment of their client and more.
G-Worldwide Entertainment Ltd had dragged Kiss Daniel to court for “taking steps to appoint a new manager, solicit for bookings, and has continued to negotiate and enter performance agreements in respect of the songs from the album “New Era,” and “Evolution” which is set to be released soon.”
In the statement released by Kiss Daniel’s lawyers, they said he only terminated the contract as he was permitted to do under the contract.
The contract was drafted by G-Worldwide, the lawyers wrote, and they inserted a termination clause in the contract, which Kiss Daniel activated.
Well, LIB revealed in new investigation into the on-going saga between Nigerian pop star, Kiss Daniel and his former label, G-Worldwide as the label finally opened to react to recent reports from the singer’s camp.
