Imo State government, Thursday, unveiled a statue in honour of Liberian president, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

Sirleaf was yesterday conferred with a chieftaincy title by the Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, Samuel Ohiri.

A statement by the chief press secretary to the Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, on Tuesday said Mrs. Johnson-Sirleaf’s visit was ‘principally’ to meet students of the Rochas Foundation, especially Liberian students whose parents died of Ebola.

Speaking after the honour, Johnson-Sirleaf said she was excited to be in Imo, adding that with education, hardwork and unity of purpose, Africa would soon get to the promised land.

“I have travelled to every part of the world and I have travelled all over Africa, I have never experienced something like this. I have seen leaders of Africa build schools, roads, give scholarships, and so on, in all of these things.

“I have not seen any of them go beyond the ordinary by gathering indigent children of Africa from all of our countries, bring them together in our family, sharing together, I thank you. There is no other better way to fight poverty and preach unity than this”, she said.

In his speech, Governor Rochas Okorocha said the Foundation was not set up to show affluence, rather a platform to foster the kind of unity Africa yearns for.

“What I do today is not a dramatisation of affluence as I am not amongst the richest in Africa, Rochas foundation is a dramatisation of sacrifice.

“This may as well be the Africa we are looking for, I do know that this institution will grow beyond me and my generation. This may be the beginning of the unity we all crave for in Africa. These children now see themselves as one family”, he said.

It also turns out that Okorocha didn’t just confer her with a chieftain title and a statue, but he also commissioned and named a road after her.

Looks like the young has finally grown as a new generation of future leaders is being born in Nigeria and the future looks bright.

A young Nigerian man, Prince Arinze Ndibe has declared his intention to contest in the 2019 Presidential Election under the umbrella of ‘Oringo Peoples party(OPP).’

There were indications on Thursday that the man who informed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of the $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 (N13bn) recovered from an Ikoyi apartment in April, may be given about N325m in the light of the Federal Government’s whistle-blower policy.

The whistle-blower policy states that any whistle-blower whose information leads to the recovery of over N5bn will attract a 2.5 per cent reward.

The acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, who did not disclose how much would be given to the whistle-blower, said the commission was already counselling him on how to spend the money.

Magu, while speaking at the ongoing 7th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption holding in Vienna, Austria, said the whistle-blower was a man who had “never seen N1m in his life.”

He, therefore, called on Nigerians who want a positive change in the country to take advantage of the whistle-blower policy.

The EFCC boss said aside from contributing to the eradication of corruption, potential whistle-blowers would also benefit from the illicit acquisition by the looters.

Magu said, “We are currently working on the young man because this is just a man who had not seen N1m of his own before. So, he is under counselling on how to make good use of the money and also the security implication. We don’t want anything bad to happen to him after taking delivery of his entitlement. He is a national pride.

“So we encourage more whistle-blowers to come forward with genuine information that will lead to recoveries from looters of public treasuries. That is part of the ways we can put an end to the looting madness in the public sector.

“When they know that they have no place to keep the loot, as all eyes are on them, they will find looting of public treasuries unattractive.”

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos and presided by Justice Muslim Hassan had on June 7, 2017 ordered the final forfeiture of the total sum of $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218, 000 to the Federal Government which means all legal hurdles have been crossed.

The money, which belongs to the National Intelligence Agency, has since been deposited in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

A suspected ritualist reportedly returned a man’s penis after he allegedly shook his hand at Emenike junction, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, and the penis initially disappeared.

Reports are, that the man reportedly returned the penis, after SARS officers who patrolled around the area intervened.

A Facebook user, Young Micheal shared the story and a video of the scene where it happened.

A Kenyan man arrested his wife’s lover, after he stormed their home with security operatives and found them fornicating in their matrimonial bed.

According to media reports, the woman’s husband got wind of what was going on in his house after being tipped off by neighbors.

The incident happened in Kenya.The young man was arrested and taken into custody.

A fresh Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) graduate, Oluwamuyiwa Oluwagbemileke Sir-Muel, committed suicide on Thursday, November 9th.

The deceased who recently graduated from the Yabatech’s Electrical and Electronics department, committed suicide by drinking a poisonous substance. He is the 2nd son and the 3rd born of his family.

Hours before his death, he put up a post on his wall, encouraging everyone to be strong in the face of adversity.

His friends say he had complained to them how tough his life had been. Sadly, he couldn’t hold it together anymore and decided to take his own life.

He also asked everyone to stand by his mum when he is gone. So sad!

President of Liberia, Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been honoured with a befitting Chieftaincy title of “ADA DI OHA NMA” of Imo State. The Chieftaincy title was conferred on her by the Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM, Eze Samuel Ohiri at the Eze Imo Palace Owerri on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

President Sirleaf had arrived Owerri through the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport where the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha received her with the wife, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha and other Senior government functionaries, and she is in the State for a two-day visit on the invitation of the Rochas Foundation College of Africa.

The Liberian President was driven straight to the Eze Imo Palace at Mbari Street Owerri where she was Conferred with the Chieftaincy title which means, “The Daughter that is good for all”.

Conferring the Chieftaincy title on Mrs. Sirleaf, Eze Ohiri said she has done Africa proud especially the women folks and deserves to be honoured.

Receiving the Chieftaincy title, Mrs. Sirleaf said she was happy to be in Imo State and noted that generally speaking Africa as a Continent and the nations that Constitute the region have not done badly in all Considerations, adding that with Education, hardwork and Unity of purpose, Africa would soon get to the Promised Land.

Governor Rochas Okorocha in his own speech stated that Mrs. Sirleaf is a pride to Africa and an inspiration to all the women in Africa and beyond, adding that her coming to the State was exciting.

The Liberian President would on Friday, November 10, 2017 meet with the Students of Rochas Foundation College of Africa for interaction and would also particularly parley with Liberian Students in the College whose Parents died of the Ebola disease.

It is also expected that the Liberian President will buy into the vision 2030 of the Rochas Foundation College of Africa which has been programmed to ensure that more than one million children of Africa are taken off the streets and given quality education.

Mrs. Sirleaf will also deliver a lecture to Imo women on the title “Women in Politics” and will equally be honoured with Imo Merit Award and a road to be named after her, while a statue will also be unveiled in her honour and her name given a place in the Imo Hall of Fame.

Some African leaders had earlier been honoured, and the people of the State are happy to be receiving these leaders Since the State has so much been developed by the Current government in its urban Renewal Programme which has made the State fit to host any leader from any part of the world.
