Panic spreads among residents as flooding inundates Lagos neighborhood (video)

The denizens of Gate House, nestled within the enclave of Gold Crescent, LSDPC Bungalow Scheme, Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos, find themselves ensconced in a palpable sense of apprehension.

This unsettling atmosphere has arisen in the wake of a flooding of their estate on Tuesday, September 12, an event precipitated by the consistent rain in the month of September.

See video below ;

This occurrence marks not the inaugural instance this year wherein certain neighborhoods in Lagos have borne the brunt of flooding.

One may recollect that back in June, the residents of Shasha, situated in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, were compelled to voice their grievances concerning the inundation that beset their community. They cast aspersions on the former state Commissioner of Works, Rauf Aregbesola, attributing the deluge to his directives for the dam release from Ajisebiara-Makka to Shasha.

It is worth noting that this issue has persisted for a protracted duration, with numerous complaints registered at Alausa. Regrettably, the community’s pleas for assistance have thus far gone unanswered.

“Being faithful in marriage is hard” – Richard Mofe Damijo (video)

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe Damijo, better known as RMD, has said that maintaining faithfulness in marriage is challenging.

The actor made this comment in response to a question about marriage and staying faithful from well-known comedian Teju Babyface during a recent interview.

He said that it is tough to overcome the fact that married men are typically the focus of women with evil intentions.

He drew comparisons between those women and biblical villains like Jezebel and Delilah, who plotted the deaths of male characters.

He added that the only way to get over such women’s efforts is to shoot them down with power.

RMD continued by drawing a comparison between the situation and that of an army commander and emphasizing the need for men to remain resilient in the face of difficulty.

In addition, he advised men to pitch in for their spouses during such challenges and to guard against Jezebel-like women.

He said,

“It is very hard, let’s face it. Every one of us that is married, we are the target, I mean look at women, how can we escape it.

Women are like Jezebel, they are like Delilah. They prepare The only way you can perpetuate the real intentions of the enemy is to constantly aim at the image of God or the symbol of authority at any time, you shoot it down”

When I saw the car, it was two things. If I take that car, it means that I’m marrying that man because of the type of family that I am from. Because my father will be wondering.. the thing that made me to collect car from a man, you are marrying the man.

Now this is the same man that once said to me.. if we are married, you cannot be here more than 2pm. What are you doing? What are you sewing? How much is the cloth you are sewing? That was what he told me. So you are not thinking beyond what I was doing. You are just seeing me doing what is taking my time, not that I’m investing my time into that thing. TG Omori reveals why he stopped shooting music videos for Asake

Nigerian music video director, ThankGod Omori Jesam, popularly known as TG Omori, has finally opened up on why he stopped shooting for Afrobeats sensation, Asake.

The YBNL artist and Omori first collaborated on the project “Organize” in 2022, and since then, they have worked together on numerous music videos.

However, once Asake hired a different director for his most recent songs, rumors started to spread regarding a potential fallout.

There have been rumors that the musician was disappointed that his most recent video, “YOGA,” did not garner as much attention as his previous ones.

However, Omori clarified the situation in a podcast interview for Zero Conditions, claiming that they have collaborated on enough projects already. Olamide, the head of YBNL, has the right to hire other creative directors, he noted.

According to the cinematographer, Olamide believes in giving people opportunities, and it would be unjust to hold that against him.

He said,

“Even couples dey divorce, people do have a break. I think we have done enough, we have done like 12 videos. We are still very cool. You know it is a business and at the end of the day, you have to respect your client’s decisions.

I like when artistes have the freedom to try out new things. I don’t want because we are guys you must shoot with me. I don’t know why that happened.

To me it is amazing love because me and YBNL are forever. And you know how me and Olamide ‘go like way back’, and Olamide is a type that makes sure that everybody eats. And before I came, he was working with other directors and he gave me the opportunity to also do my thing.

So he’s working with a very creative guy now. A very good guy that’s doing well too. That’s Olamide for you. And if I take that personal, then I have messed up.”

Nollywood actress, Peggy Ovire, has tackled popular comedian, Kiekie, for revealing that she split rent and other bills with her husband.

Kiekie had sparked a huge controversy online with the statement she made during a recent interview with media personality, Toke Makinwa.

She had stated that she would not feel comfortable living in a house without contributing towards the payment of rent. She further encouraged women to split rent bill with their husbands because it would make them respect her more.

The mother of one added that sharing the financial burden of rent would allow equal ownership of the property, so that in the event of a conflict, they would share everything equally.

She, however, clarified that it’s fine for a woman not to contribute if she doesn’t have the means, but she believes that if a woman can afford it, she can share the financial burden with her husband. Watch her speak here

This evidently didn’t sit well with Peggy, who recently got married to her colleague, actor Frederick Leonard, and she knocked Kiekie for her statement.

Peggy added that her husband would never allow her to split their household bills or contribute for rent payment, except on emergency situations.

She wrote; “Just say you earn more than your husband, Kikie, then bill sharing is a Must. It is my husband’s responsibility to pay the bills especially since he can afford it, mine is to take care of the home & be there for Emergency cases. My man won’t even let me pay jack”.

“Shame on you, I’m deleting all your songs” – Gifty Powers drags Rema

Reality TV star, has taken to social media to drag popular Nigerian musician Rema after his music concert in Ethiopia was cancelled.

Recall that the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa released an official statement about the cancellation of Rema’s Ethiopian New Year’s Eve Concert, originally slated for September 9.

The decision to cancel the show arose amid controversy surrounding allegations of “devil-worshipping” associated with the artwork featured on his custom necklace.

It’s no secret that Rema wears a necklace that features the image of a burning church and inverted crosses. He also uses the same image as a backdrop for his album cover and performances.

This was perceived as disrespectful and offensive by many Ethiopians, sparking considerable public outcry and condemnation.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, deeply rooted in cultural heritage and firm religious beliefs, also expressed strong disapproval of these symbols.

Due to mounting pressure, the Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa was forced to cancel the event.

After the incident, ex-Big Brother Naija contestant Gifty Powers made a public accusation against Rema, claiming that his music and pictures promoted satanism.

She revealed that she had conducted her own independent research and discovered that Rema was actually promoting satanic themes in his works of art.

She wrote,

“To Rema, shame on you. I couldn’t believe it until researched it myself and found out REMA wore a necklace with a burned church turned upside down, like

The rate at people selling their souls to this idiotic devil eh!! Y’all think hell isn’t real…ok nahh. All these are for fame and money. SMH

Then watched the video of him and Madonna hugging. I knew he had already joined the 666, As the saying goes “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are”…..You just lost a Fan. I’m deleting all your songs from my playlist. Nobody messes with my religion (Christianity)”

“I derive inspiration from Fela, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Kanye West” – Rema

Popular Nigerian singer, Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, has revealed the four great artistes that inspire him.

The late afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and American rapper Kanye West were cited by Rema as influences.

Rema, in an interview with Hip TV, also mentioned that he draws inspiration from Nigerian Afrobeats Grammy winners Wizkid and Burna Boy.

The 23-year-old award-winning musician claims that Kanye West’s creativity, Wizkid’s lifestyle, and Burna Boy’s life story have influenced him.

He said;

“I’m inspired by Burna [Boy] because of his story. Fela [Kuti] inspires me. Kanye West [inspires me] because of how far he goes in terms of his creativity, production. I really like Wiz [kid] because of how he carries himself.”

A while back, Rema stated that at award ceremonies, all Afrobeats artists will be grouped together, regardless of what genre Nigerian musicians label their musical genres.

Thee “Bounce” singer stated this in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday as he accepted the 2023 Headies Award for Best Male Artist of the Year.

His comment comes on the heels of Burna Boy dissociating himself from the afrobeats tag on the grounds that it “lacks substance” in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. ICYMI, read here

Rema said,

“I must say it is very important that I should let everyone know that I’m not here because of the awards. I’m here because it is important to support our institutions. And when I said institutions, I mean the bodies that support you to be able to achieve these major successes; the media houses, award organisers, you know.

“\We are in a very sensitive period if we don’t give our attention to our institutions, we will miss this chance that we have. And we will never have this chance again.

Be it afrorave, afro this, afro that, last last, we go jam for afrobeats award. So, this is our chance. We [afrobeats artists] are not the first to do it. Reggae has done it before.”

Ugandan businessman marries

A Ugandan businessman, Ssaalongo Nsikonenne Habib Ssezzigu, recently caused a buzz in his country after marrying seven wives on the same day.

The grand wedding ceremony took place in Bugereka village, located in the Mukono district, on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Interestingly, two of the seven wives he married are biological sisters.

The festivities commenced around 8 am in the morning when the brides were taken to a local salon for styling. Later, they were transported in Super Custom vans, bearing the name of each of the brides.

After the exchange of marital vows, Nsikonnene and his seven wives embarked on a grand procession led by boda boda cyclists, passing through the towns of Kalagi, Kasana, and Nakifuma, before arriving at their new home at 6 pm in the evening.

The wedding festivities kicked off with a concert, and enthusiastic onlookers lined the roadsides to witness the event.

Some were in disbelief, while others remarked that it was their first time witnessing such a wedding.

The seven wives, namely Mariam, Madinah, Aisha, Zainabu, Fatuma, Rashida, and Musanyusa (Habib’s first wife of seven years), were all honored with new cars as gifts from the groom.

At the reception, each bride had a designated seat bearing her name. During his reception speech, Nsikonnene commended his wives for their loyalty and devotion.

“My wives harbour no jealousy amongst themselves,” he declared with pride.

“I introduced them separately and decided to wed them all at once to make one big happy family,”

He added that he might marry more wives in the future.

“I am still a young man and in the near future, God willing, I cannot say this is the end of it,” he added.

The groom’s father Hajj Abdul Ssemakula, remarked that polygamy has been a long-standing tradition within their family.

He further revealed that even his grandfather practiced polygamy as he married six wives residing in the same house, separated by curtains.

“My own late father had 5 wives and I myself have four wives who live in one house,” he said.

It is said that Habib broke the record of marrying seven wives at once in Uganda.

In other news, a UK-based Nigerian lawyer, Dele Olawanle, has averred that traveling or residing abroad should not be automatically considered an achievement as it depends on a person’s accomplishments in the country.

Taking to Twitter to share his opinion, Lawyer Dele stated that he knows people who relocated to the UK but have not achieved as much as those who remained in Nigeria and diligently worked their way to success.

His words,

“TAKE NOTE OF THIS👇🏿👇🏿🚁

Traveling abroad or living abroad is not an achievement but it depends on what you are doing with your life there. It is not where you are but what you are doing there.

Let me warn you that you can be busy doing nothing apart from being a part-time star on TikTok, Instagram, or other social media platforms. I have known people who have not had a stable address or a job for the last 15 years.

Time and age catch up on one quickly. The reason why I visit Nigeria regularly is because I have found that those back home are resilient, inventive, determined, and are achieving a lot despite the harsh economic conditions.

A better economy will lead to a better life for the people. Once you live here in the UK for a long time, you become a storyteller rather than an achiever. It is like a trap of destiny.

If you live abroad, don’t get carried away. Work hard, be focused, and stick to your goals and you will achieve a lot.

Do not forget that some people you left behind in your home country are doing unbelievable exploits. A regular visit to your home country will help you to take advantage of the opportunities there and here. I hope this helps someone.
