A Nigerian Doctor Identified as Oluh Tochukwu, attached to Imo State University Teaching Hospital, has reportedly returned the N2.7million mistakenly paid into his account.
According to him, he reported the mistake and has completed the necessary steps to reverse it. Below is what he wrote;
“In this austere time and with the long holidays knocking, the sum of #2.7M (Two Million Seven Hundred Thousand naira) was MISTAKENLY credited into one of my “not well used” accounts 3days ago.
I reported officially and have given the required consent and other stuffs necessary to REVERSE it back to where it came from successfully.
There are still HONEST Nigerians. OLUH BEDE TOCHUKWU IS ONE OF THEM.
BARKA D SALLAH to all my Muslim friends and happy holidays to all and sundry.”
A South African student who received a staggering £850,000 instead of her usual £85 monthly university food grant is in hot soup after going on a massive 73 day spending spree with her friends.
Accountancy student, Sibongile Mani, 27, who was on benefits to allow her to study was said to have undergone a Cinderella like transformation overnight after the cash blunder.
Student leader Sibongile who is at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa, gets £85 (1,400 Rand) each month put into her bank account in food and book allowances.
But instead the company that administers the financial aid allowances at the university called Intellimali fouled up and sent £850,000 (14million Rand) in cash to the hard up student.
Eyebrows were raised initially when her neat corn-row hairstyle was replaced with £180-a-time Peruvian weaves and she began wearing designer outfits and bought a brand new i-phone 7.
She began flashing the cash kitting out her closest friends with new outfits and drinking £50-a-time bottles of whisky and jetting herself and her pals round the country to wild parties.
Suspicions grew when a till receipt from a local SPAR shop was leaked showing that she had more than £800,000 in her account and her wild spending became more lavish and talked about.
She was finally outed by Samkelo Mqhayi, deputy branch secretary of the South African Students Congress (SASCO), who reported her to the National Students’ Financial Aids Scheme.
He told Herald Live:
‘She threw surprise birthday parties for her friends and showered them with expensive gifts and flew them to events where she bought the best seats.
‘When the SPAR receipt was leaked showing a balance of R13.6-million in her account I called NSFAS and they checked their records and confirmed that the initial amount was R14-million’.
By the time they reigned her in after her two-and-a-half-month spending spree they discovered she had been blowing £666 a day which is a staggering amount in South Africa.
The total missing from the account is £50,000.
A fellow student said:
‘She went from a hard up, humdrum run-of-the-mill student to one who was leading a lavish lifestyle and seemed to have no bottom to her purse and lived the high life.
‘She became very glamorous in beautiful dresses with all the accessories and we thought she must have won the Lottery.
‘She must have thought she had won it too when she got that cash.’
‘We are shocked. Not so long ago we were protesting for thousands of students who were left without funding due to fund shortages.
‘Yet she was living a lavish lifestyle hosting birthday parties for her friends at up-market champagne clubs and other expensive hangouts. This cannot be allowed to happen again’.
In a Facebook post Miss Mani claimed she had reported the error to the authorities.
She said:
‘Today my personal life has become a social media scandal. I have been named and shamed in public.
‘Today, I am a bad person, a person who stole the money of students.
‘With that being said, and being named a thief, but as we all know in every story there is truth and there are lies with the very same story’.
She said she was not denying anything but would tell her side later but she has fled the campus and gone into hiding and shut down her Facebook page.
Miss Mani told the Daily Daily Dispatch: ‘It is very clear that I didn’t make the error.’
Walter Sisulu University spokeswoman Yonela Tukwayo said the payment did not affect other students saying:
‘All students who were due to receive NSFAS payments got them.
‘She will have to repay the money’.
Intellimali chief executive Michael Ansell said:
‘Legal action will be taken against the student. A forensic investigator had been appointed.’
The university has 30,500 students of whom 18,000 are funded by the NSFAS who are meant to spend their monthly grants on food and books.
Legal experts have said Miss Mani could face a charge of theft.

A young female South African constable was brutally murdered by her lover, who also is a police officer at KwaDabeka Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on Tuesday 29 August.
Nontuthuko Mthembu, who started working as a police officer just last year, was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend before he turned the gun and took his own life.
According to KwaDabeka police spokesperson Captain Mazwi Mbatha, the man who is based at the Inanda Cluster was in one of the offices with Mthembu at the KwaDabeka police station when they heard her screaming for help and asking for forgiveness.
“We then heard about four gunshots and rushed into the office, and unfortunately they were declared dead on scene,” said Mbatha.
“Although the staff has been counselled, the situation is still very tense at the station. We have had lots of people coming in and out since the incident happened.”
Mthembu was described as a bubbly people’s person who respected her job.

When asked if their sponsor, Bonfire Adventures who had earlier stocked up the supermarket for them and promised to pay three months rent for them was aware of their decision to sell the store, Mutara said;
“Our mentor was always busy. He never shared any business tips so in the end we had to make a decision on our own.”

The Flood apparently, has messed with a lot of people’s schedule and travel plans, including a dad who was supposed to fly into Houston after he dropped off his daughter at the college.
The dad was stranded because of the Hurricane so he decided to make the most of his time by attending lectures with his daughter and embarrassing the heck out of her.
Omete Anassi posted a viral tweet showing his dad sitting in his sister’s class for her first lecture.
“My pops can’t fly back to Houston ’cause of the hurricane, so he going to grad school with my sister. She pissed,” he wrote.
Anassi shared a screenshot of his father’s conversation with them on their family group chat.

Reading through the verbal assault between a self made [at least so I’m made to believe] Instagram celebrity Hushpuppi, and some Nigerian Celebs whom I’d tag the Famous Four, makes me wonder if Nigerians would ever get tired of being in the news for the wrong reasons.
Could this possibly be another outcome of a curse on the largest black country on the continent that has come to be known for more ill than good?
While celebrities in other countries of the world get involved in progressive ventures and charity work in several African countries, including Nigeria, we see ours arguing childishly over who is putting on fake jewelries, or fighting dirty as to why one was driven in a Lamboghini and the other in a Prado SUV to a show. What really is wrong with blacks from Nigeria?
I read about how Ray Hushpuppi launched the first assault on Phyno and Ice Prince by alleging that both wear fake Patek Phillipe wristwatchs, and I couldn’t but help wonder since when wearing expensive jewelries became an achievement. Are certificates of recognition or degrees awarded for wearing designer outfits and jewelries?
Perhaps I need some education as to why the constant onslaught among Nigerian celebrities, otherwise they might as well let us have our peace on the various social media platforms that celebrate their constant primitive show of shame and stupidity.
I think these so called celebrities should pay very close attention to Dangote and Otedola, both of who are successful business Moguls. When has it been mentioned of the duo engaging themselves like our shameless celebrities do despite the amount of wealth both billionaires control? Or have Nigerians ever heard Former President Ibrahim Babangida going for General Abdulsalam’s or General T.Y. Danjuma’s jugular in a fierce battle for supremacy? Your response is as good as mine, NEVER.
I think Nigerian celebrities, though not all of them though, still find it difficult to break away from the poverty mentality that exists in shanty locations. In such areas, even generators are referred to as “I pass my neighbour”, so as to celebrate the crudest form of systemic discrimination. And to think Davido who ought to know better also rolls in the mud unfortunately tells anyone who cares to know how the average Nigerian mind is wired.
Just when we thought Hushpuppi had blinded our visions with enough stupidity, Kcee came on the scene with an even sillier response by asking the Economic ad Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the “self made” Instagram celebrity. Let’s be honest for once, how many Nigerian celebrities can actually prove that their lifestyles are commensurate with their earnings? Only a handful can.
What he obviously doesn’t know is that he just opened the opportunity which the anti-graft agency has been waiting for, so we hope to see a lot of celebrities being picked up in no too distant future to explain their source of wealth.
Make no mistake, E-Money, Kcee’s brother would no doubt be among the top ten to be investigated. And for what reason, he may want to ask? For not being able to contain the strong “Pull-him-Down” thoughts Kcee has been having up his Limpopo head.
Pondering on second thought over Kcee’s call on the EFCC, gives me the idea that same might afterall be timely, especially against the backdrop of recent events which led to the arrest and detention of a Nigerian celebrity, Dammy Krane, in the United States of America in connection with credit card theft.
Regardless, this incident yet again brings to the fore some of the shortcomings of the Nigerian people, who overtime have discarded the orientation which was imbibed and once existed under the leadership of our founding fathers before the sneaky thoughts of divisiveness and tribalism set in.
Until we learn to be tolerant of each other, and being our bother’s keeper again, the last is yet to be seen and heard of corruption from greed, nepotism from barriers created by Religion and Tribalism, Insecurity foisted on us by fanaticism, and Political retrogression caused by Ethnocentricity. The choice is ours.
There are so many areas of endeavour than music and acting that could use the ingenuity of Nigerians and earn us accolades. I need not go into mentioning them as the list is long.
If Ray Hushpuppi thinks he’s got good taste for clothing and jewelry, then he might as well start a fashion line or have his own jewelry branded since he claims he has all the money in the world. On the other hand, if Kcee is bored to death with music which lately doesn’t make the waves for him anymore, he should on his path consider taking up a course on Integrity and Anti-Corruption at the Hague Academy before applying to the EFCC for employment. Also, since Phyno likes building houses everywhere, he should go for a degree in Architecture, while Ik Ogbonayya should enroll for counseling to sharpen his newly found skill.
I really do not know what to say about Ice Prince, since he is challenging Hushpuppi to go into the studio. He can die in there for all I care, but they all should leave Nigerians in peace and out of their childish squabbles.
Lastly, our celebrities must begin to see themselves as role models for the attainment of positive values needed to make Nigeria great again.
The government already has a lot on its hand to deal with from ongoing tensions created by IPOB agitations, deadline on Igbos resident in the northern part of the country by Arewa Youths, and Ultimatum by Niger Delta militants.
If for anything, these celebrities should get themselves online and carry out Unity Campaigns now that it is needed, and which by the way won’t cost a dime other than their faces and some data for uploading content, rather than fighting over Gucci clothes, Patek wristatchs, and “who spent how much in clubs”.

Following the court trial of kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans, yesterday, where he was arraigned before an Ikeja High Court and he pleaded guilty to the two count charges of conspiracy and kidnapping, his lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has alleged that Evans was forced to plead guilty by the police.
According to Ogungbeje, his client told him the police instructed him to plead guilty otherwise they would kill him.
In a statement released to newsmen, Ogungbeje stated that Evans who has been in police detention since his arrest on the 10th of June, was denied access to his lawyers.
He claimed himself and his other legal team heard of his arraignment via social media as no letter was sent to them notifying them of their client’s arraignment.
In his words:
“It must be noted that our client had been in police custody since 10th of June 2017 till date and his lawyer and family members have been denied access to him. His arraignment was brought to our attention through the social media platform.
We rushed to court in a bid to confer with our client before the commencement of proceedings but the Police denied us access to him. We sought for an adjournment to enable us to confer with our client in line with the provisions of Section 36(6) (2) of the Constitution but same was turned down by the court. Moreso, the information/charge sheet was served on us in open court on the same day of arraignment.
After the purported guilty plea of our client and the court rose, our client told us clearly that the police told him to plead guilty failing which the police will kill him. This is definitely unconstitutional and we intend to challenge this unconstitutional procedure of hoodwinking, unduly influencing, brainwashing and coercing an accused into entering a guilty plea against his wish and freewill.
Our client pointedly told us that being informed now, he will change his ‘police motivated guilty plea’ to ‘not guilty’ at the next adjourned date. It is settled law that plea of guilty must be made voluntarily and devoid of any influence, coercion, and manipulation. We have a responsibility to assist the cause of justice in accordance with the law,”
Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has stated that his official reaction to his marriage breakdown with former Olori Wuraola will soon be made public.
Speaking in a telephone chat with the Nigerian Tribune, the Director of Media and Public Affairs to the Ooni, Comrade Moses Olafare, stated that:
“In this era of social media, where people have free access to internet, as constitutionally permitted by laws of the land, people can say anything.”
“Inspite of all being said on the issue, decorum still requires that we in the House of Oduduwa maintains silence, at least for now.

His lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has however alleged that Evans was forced to plead guilty by the police. According to him, Evans told him the police asked him to plead guilty otherwise they would kill him.
In a statement released to newsmen, Ogungbeje said Evans who has been in police detention since his arrest on June 10th, was denied access to his lawyers.
He said himself and his other legal team heard of his arraignment via social media as no letter was sent to them notifying them of their client’s arraignment.
“It must be noted that our client had been in police custody since 10th of June 2017 till date and his lawyer and family members have been denied access to him. His arraignment was brought to our attention through the social media platform.
We rushed to court in a bid to confer with our client before the commencement of proceedings but the Police denied us access to him.
We sought for an adjournment to enable us to confer with our client in line with the provisions of Section 36(6) (2) of the Constitution but same was turned down by the court. Moreso, the information/charge sheet was served on us in open court on the same day of arraignment.
After the purported guilty plea of our client and the court rose, our client told us clearly that the police told him to plead guilty failing which the police will kill him.
This is definitely unconstitutional and we intend to challenge this unconstitutional procedure of hoodwinking, unduly influencing, brainwashing and coercing an accused into entering a guilty plea against his wish and freewill.
Our client pointedly told us that being informed now, he will change his ‘police motivated guilty plea’ to ‘not guilty’ at the next adjourned date.
It is settled law that plea of guilty must be made voluntarily and devoid of any influence, coercion, and manipulation. We have a responsibility to assist the cause of justice in accordance with the law,” the statement read

The same operatives while on patrol along Aba/Port-Harcourt Express way arrested the duo of Agu Sunday and Chinagorom Nwaogwugwu both males of Obigbor village Asa, Ukwa-West in possession of three trailer batteries of 200AMPS each, Battery wire and charger.
The items were stolen from Obimobio Nigeria Limited Obuaku City Aba/Port-Harcourt Express way.
The suspects confessed to the crime and the items were recovered.
