A 23-year-old final year student from the University of Bristol is alleged to have taken her own life, making it the latest in a devastating string of suicides from the same top university.
Sun UK reports that she is the fourth student from the university believed to have claimed her life since September.
The neuroscience student’s body was found over the weekend after a two-hour search after authorities received a report that a woman had jumped from the city’s Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Her death comes after students Daniel Green, 18, Kim Long, 18 and Miranda Williams, 19, took their own lives since the start of the academic year.
The University of Bristol has now said they have increased their student counselling provisions, as well as working with other support groups.

Reports have been making the rounds since yesterday that the Lagos state commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, placed a ban on the February 6th protest against the federal government in Lagos.
In a new interview he granted LIB this morning, the commissioner while clarifying his position on the issue is quoted as saying:
“What the police in the command has done is to bring attention of the organizers of the protest to the provision of the constitution. The constitution does allow right to freedom of expression and right to peaceful assembly and the same constitution in section 45 also puts what is called restriction to the fundamental rights. The implication of that is that the right to freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly are not absolute.
The constitution has given us that authority to act when those two rights of freedom of assembly and freedom of expression are going to affect the right and freedom of other persons and of course if they are going to affect safety, public order and security.
We have met with the organizers of the 2face rally. The other group that also want to do pro-government rally, we have brought their attention to the provisions of the constitution and its on the bases of that that we are advising them to shelve whatever rallies as a respect to the constitution. It is not power or the take of the police commissioner to say he is banning a rally. I am not the law. Everything the police do is within the confines of the law. We only brought their attention to those provisions of the law and advised them to abide with the constitution.
After seeing all the controversies surrounding what they want to do, we also have a duty to protect the rights and freedom of other persons. Since its going to affect public safety and order, it is a mandate that where every other persons want to go to work, so we have advised them on the basis of what the constitution says and that is our position”
Speaking further, he said:
“We have told them that those rights (freedom to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression) they want to use are not absolute and we have told them that the constitution has put a restriction on those rights and in furtherance, advised them to shelve the rally”.
Asked if the force would put up any resistance should the protest go ahead on Monday, Owoseni said:
“We believe that they are very responsible people and they will abide by the provision of that constitution that makes their rights not to be absolute to respect the rights of other citizens. We are assuring the members of the public that we would do the needful to ensure everybody goes about his or her lawful business without any injuries”.

The Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Governors’ Forum of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has knocked the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police for planning to stop a protest for good governance by a musician, Mr. Innocent Idibia, a.k.a. 2 Face.
Also, a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has said nothing, including the police, can stop the planned peaceful rally being organised by the musician.
The rally, which 2face planned to lead in the Lagos metropolis next Monday, is to protest against the current economic hardship being faced by the masses.
But in a statement on Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the police would not allow the rally to hold, because it could easily be hijacked by miscreants.
“We know that 2face does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand,” Owoseni said.
In response, Governor Fayose said that the police’s stand was a ploy to stop a legitimate civil act.
In a press statement issued by the Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the governor said,
“Leadership is about accountability. To be accountable, leaders must listen to public opinion either by civil and peaceful protest.
“The court of appeal’s judgment in the ANPP vs IGP allows for such protest or gathering without police permit or interference as in advanced democracies. The protest is said to be for and about good governance. So, who is afraid of the protest? Who do the police represent in this issue?
“Nigerians are hungry and angry, our currency is above N500 to a US dollar.
“Nepotism, extrajudicial killings, disobedience to court order and human right abuse must stop. The conscience is an open wound and the guilty is afraid.”
Adegboruwa, who had earlier said he would join the 2face rally, also said the police did not have any legal backing to stop the protest and urged the police CP to study his copy of the Nigerian constitution before coming out to make such a statement.
Adegboruwa said Owoseni’s statement was an attempt to intimidate Nigerians who wish to partake in the rally, adding that it could never deter “we, veterans, and indeed the deprived, oppressed and hungry people of Nigeria.”
Vowing that the rally could not be stopped, Adegboruwa urged
“the good people of Nigeria, especially those who reside in Lagos, to join us en mass at Ikeja, for the rally on February 6, 2017.
“We cannot be intimidated in our own country, by the same people who are paid to protect us.
“…So, come rain or shine, we shall hold the rally on Monday, as scheduled, because it is illegal for the police to seek to ban a lawful assembly.”

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has faulted the Lagos police over its position that it will not allow the planned protest against the Federal Government slated for February 6 to hold in Lagos State.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose noted that the APC-led federal government must be made to understand that “leadership is about accountability. He said;
“The duty of the police to secure Nigerians is mandatory, and not optional. Therefore, if there is any intelligence report suggesting the possibility of criminals hijacking the process, it is the duty of the police to provide security cover for the protesters. Court of Appeal affirmed in its judgement in Inspector General of Police Vs All Nigerians Peoples Party that protest or gathering do not require police permit or interference as obtainable in advanced democracy.
Most importantly, the protest is said to be for and about good governance. So who is afraid of the protest? Who does the police represents or is representing in this issue?”
Nigerians are hungry and angry, our currency is now above N500 to $1. If Nigerians want to show their anger, no one should prevent them. Nepotism, extra judicial killings, disobedience to court order and human rights abuses must stop.
The conscience is an open wound and the guilty is afraid. If the APC-led Federal Government is now acting as if the protest is against it, it means the federal government has accepted to be guilty as charged.
Like I said before, I support the protest.”

A Kenyan gospel artiste, Eunice Njeri, dropped a bombshell on her fans yesterday after she announced her marriage to husband, rapper Isaac Bukasa ended hours after the wedding.
Ms Njeri and rapper Isaac Bukasa aka Izzo got married on the 27th of November, 2016 in the United States and photos of the ceremony were shared online by their family and friends.
The couple dated for two years before walking down the aisle and announced their engagement on September 19 via Instagram. They later had a pre-wedding in the US where Izzo’s family lives before their grand wedding on the 27th of November, still in the US.
However, according to the gospel songstress, at the end of the wedding day, she realized her heart was somewhere else and so never signed her wedding papers.

She broke the news on her social media accounts, yesterday Wednesday, February 1, 2017, two months after she walked out of the marriage saying:
“On the 27th Nov 2016, Isaac and I did go to the altar to get married, but at the end of that day I realized one thing, I couldn’t do it my heart was somewhere else.
“Probably in Africa doing what I do best, am still trying to figure that out. I immediately left for Kenya and have been serving God the best way I know how.
“To all who supported Isaac and i am grateful may God bless you immensely. To all who were hurt in the process I apologize. The marriage was annulled (like it never happened). No papers were signed.
“Afterwards and we both made a decision to go our separate ways. I hope for your support and help as we move on. Like every other relationship we hit a rock, maybe a little too early but have since overcome.
“Consequently, we have decided to go our separate ways and hope for the very best. God bless you.”

Her husband Isaac Bukasa hasn’t officially reacted to the announcement yet but a week after their wedding in November, he had sent his estranged wife a lovely message on Instagram showing his love for the singer.

“Only God knows how much this woman means to me,” he said in the post. “The best thing that happened to me this year. Oh, please don’t tell her.”

Njeri on the other hand has deleted all posts about him on her Instagram page while Izzo still has several posts about her on his page.

A young mother dropped her baby 40 feet to its death after she tripped over her outfit on an escalator – the horrifying incident took place in the O’zbegim shopping centre in the city of Andijan, in east-central Uzbekistan.
Footage from security cameras in a shopping centre in Uzbekistan shows the woman in a long dress and a headscarf coming down an escalator with a baby in her right arm and holding an older child with her left hand.
It looks like the dress gets stuck in the escalator, causing her to stumble down the steps and the child to fall out of her arms and over the side.

It is reported that the height the baby fell from was equal to that of a four-storey building, typically 40 feet, and onto the tiled flooring below. The baby died on impact.
Emergency crews who rushed to the scene were unable to save the child’s life.
The video has been shared locally online and the distressing images have caused world-wide compassion for this poor mother.

A husband has jilted after allegedly chopping off his wife’s two ears in Afghanistan – his 23-year-old victim described to the BBC how her husband tied her up and cut off both her ears in a domestic violence attack in the northern province of Balkh.
The woman – Zarina – is now in a stable but traumatised condition in hospital.
“I haven’t committed any sin,” she said. “I don’t know why my husband did this to me.”
Zarina told Pajhwok news that the unprovoked attack took place after her husband suddenly woke her up at midnight and attacked her and cut off her ears with a knife.

She was married to him at the age of 13, and told BBC that “relations with her husband were not good“.
Zarina also complained that her husband had tried to prevent her from seeing her parents in another interview with Tolo News. She said she no longer wanted to remain married to him.
“My husband always treats me badly. I wasn’t even allowed to visit my parents. He is a very suspicious man and often accused me of talking to strange men when I went to visit my parents,” she said.

Zarina has called on Afghan legal and judicial institutions to arrest her husband and to ensure he is prosecuted. They are investigating the incident, but the accused remained at large.
Mazar-i-Sharif public hospital head, Dr. Noor Mohammad Faiz, said the woman was delivered to the hospital on Tuesday morning. He said the woman’s ears had been cut off and she was in trauma, however, her condition was stable.

Zarina’s account is the latest in a series of high-profile domestic abuse incidents and cases of violence against women in Afghanistan.
