The high expectations of members of the Redeemed Israel Community of Nazarene Association (RICON) on a possible ancestral link between Igbo and Jews have been dashed.
The international President of Jewish Voice Ministries, Rabbi Jonathan Bernis, announced that the result of saliva samples taken in Nnewi had shown that the Igbo were not Jews.
Members of the group had gathered at Uruagu-Nnewi to collect what would be the confirmation/ Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test result of Ndigbo’s claims that Igbo are descent of Israel got to the venue as early as 9.00am on Saturday for a result that was to reshape the relationship of Igbo and Israel.
Rabbi Bernis who read the report from a laboratory based in Houston, Texas, the United States of America (USA) said that the result of the samples taken from Nigeria randomly on some people in Igboland bear no semblance with the ones in the data base of the laboratory.
The Israeli in company of three of his compatriots said that none of the 124 specimen taken from Nigeria matched the samples in the Houston laboratory which has 17 years’ experience in DNA business.
He however said that the result does not rule out the claim of Igbo to Israeli descent as more research would still be made to authenticate the claims.
The President of RICON, Bishop Ignatius Orizu (JP) while commenting on the DNA result said that the result would not deter the organisation from continuing to research into the claimed descent of the Igbo from Israel.
He pointed out that the tradition, religion and culture of the Igbo long before the arrival of the missionaries have great semblance with that of the Israelis.
Bishop Orizu who said that there are many books in circulation that collaborated the claim of Igbo to Israeli decency however urged the congregation not to lose hope as science is always in the business of discovery and recovery.
He appealed to the Federal Government to recognise the Jews in Nigeria and proclaim Yaweh’s Feast of Passover, trumpets, atonements, tabernacles among others as public holidays as approved for Christians and Moslems during Christmas, New Year and Easter.
Saliva samples were collected from Igbo community for Y25, DNA test on February 6 and 7, 2017 at Nnewi, Anambra State.

Your wedding night is the time to consummate the marriage. Well my wedding night we did that but he also knowingly exposed me to his HIV. I trusted him with my life and he took my life into his own hands and chose to lie in the most explainable way! From that trip to the doctor when he said his HIV test was negative, to his mom telling me to ask him about HIV and he saying he didn’t know what she was talking about just days before the wedding, to having unprotected sex with his WIFE on our wedding night, to the doctor telling me that I WAS HIV POSITIVE, to me finding out about other women and possibly men he was sleeping with, and ALL THE WAY UP TO SENTENCING he lied! when the judge said, “we have you on a recorded conversation admitting that you had HIV since 2002” the lies stopped! I was 24 years old on this day August 4, 2007 and on this day my body was introduced to HIV.

A 23-year old bag snatcher, Ayobami Adedeji, has been arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command in Alagbado during a botch operation.
The suspected okada robber blamed his father for his plight, saying that he abandoned him after his mother’s death.
He was chased by the operatives on routine patrol of Kola Bus Stop, in Alagbado Area of Lagos, after snatching a hand bag around 10:00 p.m.
Adedeji, in company of an accomplice, who he referred to as Aboki, had on Monday night, operating with a motorcycle, snatched the hand bag of one Kudirat Oyebade at Kola Bus Stop.
The operatives who were close to the scene of the incident chased the motorcycle into the inner streets. One of the suspects was however arrested while the rider escaped abandoning his motor cycle.
Adedeji said:
“I was a bus conductor. I went to Kotangoa market on Monday to meet Aboki about how to raise money for ourselves…. We have been together for a long time. At around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, we perfected the plan to operate together on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, but our focus were Adura and Council bus stops around Agbado areas of Lagos State. Our priorities were handbags and purses.”
“We had snatched two bags and my colleague was keeping the money before our last botched operation. This was our first time…. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t know RRS operatives were monitoring us. I snatched the bag and they chased us into the streets. My colleague escaped after abandoning his okada and I was arrested,” he continued.
“I dropped out in SS1 after losing my mother. My father was just a ceremonial father. He never cared about me since the death of my mother. He never assisted me but I had to fend for myself after the death of my mother.”
Meanwhile, The operatives, also recovered an AK-47 assault rifle from three young men in Apapa Area of Lagos State.
The officers accosted the men but the suspects on sighting officers dropped the bag and fled the scene.
A check on the content of the bag revealed an AK-47. No ammunition was found in the bag.
The rifle has been deposited at the RRS Headquarters for further investigation while Adedeji has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti for further investigations.
Suspected members of the Badoo cult disguised as worshippers on Saturday to attack the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Okin Parish, Igbo Agbowa, Ibeshe, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that a woman, who had attended a vigil in the church, was injured after her head was smashed with a stone.
It was gathered that three Badoo suspects had mingled with the congregation during the vigil, which ended around 3am on Saturday.
Shortly after the members slept off, the assailants reportedly struck, smashing the stone on the head of the woman whose name had yet to be ascertained.
Our correspondent was told that the victim raised the alarm, which woke up other church members and residents of the area.
A resident, who gave his name only as Joseph, said the crowd gave the suspects a chase and one of them was apprehended.
He added that the woman had been admitted to a hospital.
He said, “After his arrest, he told us that they were three that attended the vigil. They pretended to be members of the church. People were exhausted after the service and slept off inside the church. During that period, they attacked the woman. She was seriously injured in the head.
“Two of them fled, but the third suspect was apprehended and taken to the Ipakodo Police Station. Some youths wanted to lynch him, but they were stopped.”
An elder in the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, urged the police to conduct adequate investigation on the suspect with a view to arresting other fleeing members and their sponsors.
“The woman is in a critical condition at the hospital. It took the intervention and assurances from elderly members of the community that justice would be done before the youths agreed to hand over the suspect to the police.
“We have witnessed a situation where a suspect was caught like this and handed over to the police, but nothing came out of it. The police should ensure diligent investigation and prosecution. If justice is done, people will stop jungle justice,” he added.
A sour drug deal is reportedly the reason for the Ozubulu Massacre which according to police, left 8 dead and 18 injured.
According to Vanguard, it was learned that trouble started for worshippers who were in church for the 6:00am Mass, when at about 6:45am, the gunmen rode into the church in a Lexus SUV, as one of them entered the church and shot at close range an elderly man, later identified as Pa Ikegwuonu, while others remained in the vehicle outside.
An eye-witness told Vanguard that after killing the old man, the gunman opened fire on other worshippers, as those who tried to flee were cut down by the gunmen outside the church.
Pa Ikegwuonu is the father of Chief Aloysius Ikegwuonu, a businessman from Amakwa, who built and donated the church to Nnewi Diocese, while his wife was shot on her right arm and still on admission at the teaching hospital.
It was gathered that the gunmen were looking for his son, Aloysius, who was said to have returned to the village on Saturday and left later in the day. According to a source, the gunmen had thought he was in the church and had wanted to deal decisively with him over a yet-to-be ascertained business deal.
A survivor, Mr. Stephen Ohamadike, told Vanguard at the church premises that the gunmen entered the church around 6.45am as they were about to begin prayer of the faithful. He said:
“Those of us who were to say the prayers of the faithful had just assembled at the altar and I had Number 2 which meant that I was to say the prayer for Nigeria. Suddenly, I saw someone who was putting on a cap shooting indiscriminately inside the church.
“There was pandemonium and in the midst of the confusion, I just lay down on the floor. The officiating priest and the Mass servers quickly left the altar and the Mass came to an abrupt end.
“I counted 11 dead people and many were wounded. I used the vehicle belonging to Pa Ikegwuonu to take him and his wife and others to Evans Hospital where the doctors advised us to go to the teaching hospital. I used the car to convey many other people to the hospital before I came back to Amakwa.”
Several other parishioners, who sustained bullet wounds were being treated at the hospital, with over 50 medical doctors from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, and other private hospitals around Nnewi battling to save their lives at the Emergency Unit of the hospital.
A Twitter user @isinmiri also shared a story, about what really went down, that resulted to this unfortunate massacre. Follow the thread:

The Nigerian rapper, Ruggedman has condemned the act of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) Chairman, Tony Okoroji in supporting the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed over the petition signed against the latter by Performing Musician Association of Nigeria.
Earlier on Thursday, Mr. Tony expressed disapproval against the petition of intellectual theft towards the Minister for stealing PMAN’s creative proposal in organising the recently held Creative Industry Summit in Lagos. He said:
‘I am shocked by the efforts being made by some of my colleagues and friends in the name of PMAN to discredit the historic Creative Industry Summit and to drag the minister’s name into the mud.’
‘As a past president of PMAN and an elder in Nigeria’s creative industry, I completely disagree with the attempt to use the platform of PMAN to contrive a dispute with the minister.’
Ruggedman however in a series of tweets on Saturday condemned the position of Mr. Tony Okoroji. He said his intervention in the case cannot be find worthy and below the repute of an elder which he claimed to be.
“An elder in the entertainment industry is how I see you boss Tony Okoroji. I am a member of @PMANofficial n was shocked at ur angry outburst.”
“Mr Tony Okoroji u are an elder in every ramification.Going on social media to rant on an issue u know nothing abt is not elder like @COSONNG“, Ruggeman tweeted.
Adeniyi Johnson, The estranged husband of actress Toyin Aimakhu in a new interview with Sunday scoop has revealed he has no issues with the actress.
Read excerpts from his interview:
How did entertainment start for you?
It started for me about two decades ago when I started acting in church. My first major acting experience was when I was in secondary school and as students, we had to stage a play. But the person that was to play the lead role kept disappointing them as he didn’t bother to attend rehearsals. The teacher in charge of the drama group then said she needed someone else to play the role. A classmate of mine told her that I could do it because I was very funny and troublesome in school. That was how I was invited to take part in the play and I was able to do it well. After that episode, I became the happening guy in school and everybody wanted to associate with me. After I graduated, a friend informed me that some actors were shooting a movie close to where I was residing. I went there and took part in the audition. One of the producers, Ray Alechenu, took an interest in me and he told me to come for training. From there, I started acting in TV series and other productions.
What was the first movie you acted in?
The first Yoruba movie I acted in was Mo ta ka osi danu, and it was shot 11 years ago. It was produced by Lekan Ayinde and he was the one that brought me into the Yoruba movie industry. However, my breakthrough started when I delved into soap operas like Super Story and Family Ties, among others.
Entertainers are known to lead ostentatious lives, how do you avoid being caught in that web?
It’s not like acting isn’t a well-paid job. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t be here because fame is not enough. The problem is that the expectation of people from actors is very high. But I will never live a fake life to impress anybody, and people who know me can testify to that. Meanwhile, if piracy can be curbed, actors would also fly private jets.
How much does it cost to make a proper movie?
It depends on how large the production is. Some could cost N5m or N10m. However in the industry now, people work more based on friendship and that reduces the cost. If you insist on charging what you think you’re worth, the producer would not be able to pay, because it would be difficult to recoup the money.
Do you belong to any association in the industry?
I belong to practically all the associations including AGN, TAMPAN, among others. I am a strong believer in this cause as I believe that it is only through entertainment that we can change the image of Nigeria for better.
What roles do these associations play in taking care of welfare of practitioners?
How much is in the purse of the association? Many actors are not faithful with payment of dues and levies, and that’s really the only way the associations can generate funds.
Is there any role you would love to play but haven’t?
I would like to play the role of a deaf and dumb person, and speak with sign language.
You usually play the role of a lover boy, is that your character off camera?
It’s a Nigerian thing that when you look good, you would play the role of a lover boy. At a point, I had to tell people that I enjoy playing a lover boy but I can do other things as well. Recently, I have acted as a tout, prisoner, imbecile, and played diverse roles. Now, they don’t cast me as a lover boy alone. Off camera, I love everybody around me and love to put smiles on people’s faces. If that is love, then I’m a lover boy. I love women and you can even make that your headline. Am I supposed to hate them? However, loving isn’t necessarily about the opposite sex.
Do you feel pressured to hide your relationship from the public?
What I showcase to the world is my talent and I have the right to my privacy. That is why I don’t talk about my personal life.
What then prompted you to go public about your relationship with Seyi Edun?
I have said all I have to say about that on Instagram where I described her as a good friend and confidante.
What kind of woman do you like?
I like a woman that fears God and is hard-working. It is not about a pretty face and curvy shape; it is more about a woman who can pray together with you.
Does Seyi Edun fit that bill?
Why are you so particular about Seyi Edun? Why don’t you talk about other actresses that I have been linked to in the media? I don’t want to talk about my relationship.
Are you afraid that your relationship would be endangered if the public know about it?
Don’t people know about Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva? It is only if you want your relationship to be damaged that it will be. It is not necessary to put everything about your relationship out there. Some things are meant to be private.
Are you a spiritual person?
Yes, I am, and people who know me are aware of that. I have been a church boy from way back and I don’t joke with prayers; even Toyin Aimakhu can attest to it. Sometimes on set, I even organise vigils with spiritual colleagues like Woli Arole, Seyi Edun, among others.
Can you still work with Toyin Aimakhu?
Of course! There is no reason I cannot work with her. She is not my enemy and she didn’t kill anyone close to me. I have worked with her severally after our issue and the last time we were together on set was in 2016. We do whatever we have to do and go our separate ways.
You were recently given a car by Funke Akindele’s ex-husband, Kehinde Oloyede. What led to that?
It actually started as a joke. He was celebrating his birthday and he said he would give a car to whoever provides correct answers to some questions he would be asking on social media. I participated in it and I eventually won. I’m enjoying the car now and I am grateful to him.
What can you recall of your childhood?
I was born and brought up in Lagos and I’ve basically lived my whole life there. I wasn’t born with a silver or wooden spoon, but we didn’t have to beg anybody to eat. My childhood was pretty normal. When it was time to be stubborn, I was, and when it was time to read my books, I did.
What did you study in school?
I studied mass communication at the Ibadan Polytechnic. Later on, I went to the Lagos State University to study international relations. I have also undergone some training in acting. It is not really about what I studied in school, it is more about the inherent talent.
Garba Umar, The Anambra state commissioner of Police, has dismissed speculations that the Ozubulu Church attack was by a Boko Haram Member.
Garba Umar, The Anambra state commissioner of Police, has dismissed speculations that the massacre at the St. Philip Catholic Church in Ekwusigo Local Government area of the state was carried out by the dreaded terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
Some members of the state had earlier speculated that the attack was carried out by members of the terrorist group.
In an interview with newsmen, Garba who visited the scene after the attack that left eight persons dead, said the person who fired the gunshot, spoke igbo during the attack.
“From our findings, it is very clear that the person who carried the attack must be an indigene of the area. The man after shooting at his targeted victims still went on a shooting spree, killing and wounding other worshippers. Information available to police showed that the attacker was speaking Igbo at the time he was firing at worshippers.” he said
President Buhari has strongly condemned the Ozubulu Massacre as he described the incident as “an appalling crime against humanity”.
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the attack on Ozubulu Church in Anambra State by a yet to be identified gang describing the incident as “an appalling crime against humanity and unspeakable sacrilege.”
Expressing his grief in a strongly worded statement issued by Garba Shehu the the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, President Buhari said that “there was no justification whatsoever to target Church worshippers and kill them in cold blood.”
He said this kind of atrocity “plumbs the depth of depravity and extreme cruelty of the kind that words cannot adequately express.”
According to the President, there is no religion that does not lay constant emphasis on the sanctity of life, and that “all Nigerians must rise up and speak with one voice against these remorseless evil men.”
While expressing his deep felt sympathy with the families of the victims, the Church leadership and the government of Anambra State, he reassured all Nigerians of his administration’s firm and uncompromising commitment to protect their lives and property at all times.
One of the survivors of the gory incident of shooting and killing of worshippers in the Church in Ozubulu, Anambra State, south east Nigeria, Sunday, Mr. Ohamadike Stephen has told Daily Sun that:
“We were in the church and I was to handle the second reading. As the first reading was still on, I heard a sound like a thunder. I dived under a long form in the church auditorium and from there raised up my head a bit and saw a young man with a fez cap shooting and people ran in all directions for safety in confusion.
The survivor who reluctantly accepted to talk flatly refused his photo to be used in the paper.
I remained where I was and that was around 5:45am. The Parish Priest removed his cassock and hid at the altar while the gunmen continued in the shooting spree.
“When they had left, I helped in evacuating the wounded and casualties to the NAUTH, Nnewi,” he said.
Also later in the evening, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 9, Umuahia, Mr. Hassan Karma visited the victims at the NAUTH and said that the act was completely unacceptable before man and God. The AIG assured that the perpetrators must be fished out. He said that would not make anyone say there is no security in Anambra State.
A very pretty lady has shared her weight loss transformation photo, and it’s beyond impressive.
She went from a pretty chubby lady, to an extremely slimmer beautiful lady. Though folks started coming for her, after her second picture visibly showed her “chest” region has reduced from what it was.
Perhaps, she lost some fats there too?

Igbo leaders and traders in Lagos have warned the director of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, not to come to Lagos state to stage any of his rallies. Kanu last month, disclosed his plans to come to Lagos.
Speaking with Sunday Telegraph, Chief Chiemeka Ibeh of Alaba Amalgamated Traders Association, said the IPOB leader should leave Igbos in Lagos alone because his visit will create the impression that Igbos in Lagos are supporting Kanu and IPOB activities.
“He should keep his Biafra in the East where our unemployed youths are following him all over the place, not knowing what they are dabbling into. Most of these youth do not understand what Biafra is about and what it has cost Igbo people.
Since his actions led to the quit notice by the Arewa youths, I expected Kanu to have paid upfront all transport companies on the northern route to be conveying Igbo people who might be interested in coming back to the East, but he has not paid a kobo to anybody. Is he bothered about the economic wellbeing of the people whom his actions could dislocate?”
Also speaking, the leader in the Auto Spare Parts & Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA), Chief Alex Ejiofor, asked Nnamdi Kanu to desist from distracting struggling Igbo people from concentrating on finding their daily bread.
“If his father did not tell him my father told me that we were reduced to the biblical ‘hewers of wood and drawers of water’ in Nigeria at the end of the war in 1970. It is true that we are still suffering from the effects of that war till today, but Igbos in all parts of Nigeria have made a lot of progress and cannot afford to return to that stage where an Igbo who left over a million British Pounds in his account and ran home for safety at the outbreak of the war, was given 20 Pounds in 1970 after the no victor, no vanquished declaration.
What is Kanu thinking about that? And if I may ask, what is the volume of Kanu’s investment either in the South-East or in other parts of the country? Does he not know that he is putting those investments at risk and endangering the source of livelihood of other people? He should perish the thought of coming to Lagos, and if I may advise, he should change strategy or join forces with Ohanaeze.
He has done well by bringing the marginalisation of the South-East to the front burner again, but should sustain the discussion without causing his people harm” he said
