I want to first of all appreciate God for not allowing the devil take the glory as regards the incident of the Young boy who tried to harm his classmate with acid because of class position, I am glad the prestigious institution took some certain measures to make sure issues like this doesn’t occur again but I still believe these steps are very good but not really appropriate for this situation. I will make my points succinct for better and clear understanding from my own angle.
First of all, According to Punch, the young boy got the acid substance from the school’s laboratory, we all know that the laboratory in a secondary school setting is known as a special room because of it functions and what it contains.
Even when practical are carried out, the individuals involved are fully kitted to prevent any harmful experience because of the substances involved.
I believe you need to look at the safety measures of your school generally especially the special rooms, even if it needs you to call in the services of a safety expert to work this out.
What if the plan of the young boy was to drink the substance immediately, don’t you think it would have been a different story entirely? Godforbid!!! This is the first step that broke the hedge which gave the serpent the opportunity to bite, but thank God the devil lost the battle, but this should be a lesson.
So it will be very expedient the school upgrades their safety measures to guarantee student safety like having a constant and effective laboratory attendant who stays inside the lab and monitors activities within the laboratory and if there was a lab attendant during this incident,he should be seriously questioned.
Secondly, to a reasonable extent, I still insist that the young boy shouldn’t have been expelled and all the blames shouldn’t be on him. He should be disciplined and counseled. Let us get things straight, am not trying to defend his action, but am just trying to be non-sentimental in my views to be able to capture the best solution to the issue at hand.
According to the news, the girl had defeated the boy twice, is it not obvious that the young boy could have been under pressure maybe from his parent? we all went through this stage and we know how Parents behave especially African parents, the young boy could have been seriously pressurized by his parent for allowing a girl defeat him.
The boy may have obviously thought carrying out this devilish act was the best way, these are factors we should consider. i believe the Parent of the boy and all other parents and the students should be properly enlightened that education is not the true test of knowledge, not as if the students should not be studious, but they should have the mindset that coming out first, second or last in the class doesn’t mean that they are not intelligent and that they will not make it in life, it just means that they just need to put in more effort. Even adults in the University too need this orientation.
Finally, This is an eye opener for everybody and we thank God that nothing harmful happened. The Disciplinary Unit should discipline the boy based on their own disciplinary policy and the counseling Unit of the school should seriously counsel the young boy and every other students in the school, he should be closely monitored, they should take note of his associations what he exposes himself to.
They should continue to re-orientate him and all the students, Infact the re-orientation should be constant especially at the beginning of the term, before examination and when they are about to receive their results and also Parents should also be properly educated not to put pressures on their Children so that they will not be desperate. Expelling the Boy is not the Solution.

The counsel to the defendant, Uche Chikelue, asked the court for mercy in sentencing Brown, saying that not only has he been well behaved, but also co-operated with the prosecution throughout the investigations, has no past criminal record and he has refunded all the money taken.
He said:

Shocking news and photos have emerged online of alleged Soldier Brutality showing how military personnel attached to a white man working with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company were ordered to beat up a man who resisted electricity bill.
WHITE MAN ORDERS SOLDIERS TO BEAT UP A NIGERIAN OVER ELECTRICITY BILL IN EDO STATE
Earlier today, a white man working with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) orders Military personnel attached to him to beat up one Mr. Innocent Okpara over resistance of the electricity company officials to take his expensive wires after disconnection for non payment of electricity bills.
This happened behind Santana Market, Sapele Road, Benin City in the presence of the Business Manager, a Nigerian in charge of the business unit that covers the area. The man has been disconnected for owing the company an amount he said could not be justified, his argument was that, he bought the wires with his money and that it does not belong to the private company hence, he was not going to allow them to take away the expensive wires.
Similar reports have reached the human rights community of the activities in the past of same white men who go about with military personnel to harass, intimidate, humiliate, brutalize and in some cases threaten to shoot citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria over electricity issues. Such case was that of one Mr. Owas Evbuomwan about a month ago in Oluku-Iguosa axis who was threatened by military personnel attached to another white man working with BEDC to shoot if he dares question the authority of a white man in threatening a Nigerian like him. It should be noted that there are three of them working with BEDC and they all exhibit the habit of creating fear and tension in the minds of Nigerians thereby making Nigerians look like cowards in their own land.
Reports have been passed to the 4 Mechanized Brigade, Benin City severally on the activities of soldiers who molest and assault citizens and no action have been demonstrated to show there is still value for human rights even in a democratic dispensation like ours. A lot of such incidences are archived with pictorial evidences and victims are readily available to testify of military brutalization and assault on their persons without direct provocation that warrants same.
It is important for Nigerians to still know if our leaders have finally handed over the life and destiny to foreigners or this is another round of colonial rule using our military to achieve.
The Edo Civil Society Organisations will stop at nothing to mobilize all other Nigerians to resist any form of colonial tendencies even if our leaders are docile and non chalant about it. We cannot tolerate it, because Nigerians in the Diaspora cannot try what these white men are daring here.
To this end, we are demanding a full scale investigation into the activities of these white men working with BEDC to the extent that whether they possess such rights in line with our constitution to command our military personnel to unleash terror on citizens. We cannot be slaves in our own land because these white men are here to elk a living for themselves and another round of colonial tendencies we shall resist even with the last drop of our blood. The most stupid Nigerian at least deserves some respects from a foreigner in his land.
We own the Land.

The decomposing bodies of a family of six which was suspected to have been as a result of the fumes emitted by their generator, have been discovered in their sitting room in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area, of Rivers State.
The decomposing bodies were found, at their residence on Salvation Street by concerned neighbours who had gone in search of them when they realized that not one of them had been seen since last Friday.
The discovery has thrown the residents in a mourning mood as the family is made up of the father, mother, and four children with ages 6, 4, 3 and 2.
The police evacuated the bodies yesterday afternoon.
The landlord while speaking to journalist requested for anonymity because the police was investigating the matter and said he saw the family last on Friday morning.
He said:
“Their generator was on when I returned home on Friday evening and I presumed they were inside the house.
I didn’t see them on Saturday. I also did not see any of them on Sunday. My junior brother called me this afternoon while I was at work to intimate me that something was happening at my house, so I rushed down here. I am in shock.”
One of the neighbour who saw the bodies when the police arrived to evacuate them said they were lying down on the floor which suggested that the family might have been watching television and perhaps slept off in the process, leaving the television and generator on.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said the Police had evacuated the bodies and taken them to the mortuary for post morten examination.
The Police Image maker also said:
“The speculation is that the family may have died from carbon monoxide which emanated from their generator. But that has not been scientifically proven. So, we are waiting for the autopsy report to make our findings.”
