Speaking with Al-Jazeera, The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has revealed that the demand for the withdrawal of the South East from Nigeria is because the nation seems not to be functioning and can never function.
Kanu further said that nothing seems to be working anymore in Nigeria as there is pain and hardship everywhere.
“What we’re fighting [for] is not self-determination for the sake of it. It’s because Nigeria is not functioning and can never function.”
Kanu who was granted bail last month, says he doesn’t care if he is flouting one of the terms for his bail which prohibits him from granting media interviews.
“I don’t care. I can’t go outside to call for a press conference. I can’t go on Biafra Radio to broadcast. I can’t allow large [groups of] people to basically congregate outside to see me … it’s like asking me not to breathe,” he said
Kanu decried the perceived marginalization of the Ibos in Nigeria, saying that they have been prevented from aspiring to assume important positions in the country such as President, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff amongst others
“I’m not allowed to contest for the presidency of Nigeria because I’m Igbo. I’m not allowed to aspire to become the inspector general of police because I’m Igbo. I’m not allowed to become chief of army staff because I’m Igbo. What sort of stupid country is that? Why would any idiot want me to be in that sort of country?” he said.
A 50-year-old man, Ahmed Echodo, has been charged to court on Tuesday for allegedly hoaxing the police to carry out a raid at a building which belongs to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
According to the one-count charge, two defendants were accused of the offense, but only Mr. Echodo was arraigned at a magistrate court in Abuja because the other defendant, Mr Adamu was at large.
Security operatives had ransacked the building on Friday morning following information accusing the occupants of criminal offenses and storage of arms and ammunition.
During the search, They found nothing incriminating.
The counsel to the defense, Peter Ngwoke, pleaded the court to grant his client bail.
The magistrate, Umar Kagarko, asked the police to find and present the other suspect in court at the next sitting after adjourning the case to June 5, for ruling on the bail application.
A 3-week-old baby left with her family’s dogs, was brutally bitten to death by the 3 pit bulls after the dogs bit her on the head and she was left unattended to.
The baby identified as Susannah Jean Murray was left alone in a bouncy for five minutes inside her Michigan home with three pit bulls serving as her only companions.
Moments of being alone, a caretaker checked on her and then the woman noticed the infant bleeding from a severe head injury and also saw that one of the dogs had blood around its mouth.
The Baby was immediately rushed to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where she underwent seven hours of surgery.. But unfortunately she did not make it. The Baby died at around 2a.m., the next morning.
Sgt. Terry Dixon with the GRPD when speaking of the attack said the dog who attacked the child is about 2 years old and has now been quarantined along with the two other family dogs at the Kent County Animal Shelter.
“This is a horrible tragedy, and it serves as a critical reminder to never leave a child unattended around a dog, or dogs, or pets,” said Sgt. Terry Dixon. “Always keep a watchful eye on our vulnerable youth.”
“Just the breed of a pit bull by itself is not enough to condemn it, any dog can bite something, they have teeth. I would say that this serves as a definite reminder not to leave children alone with dogs in the house.” He continued
Neighbors resident in the Grand Rapids neighborhood told the Detroit Free Press that the dogs were a dangerous nuisance, calling them “mean and vicious” and said they were always wary of them.
“I’d be scared, because when the dogs get out the fence, they used to chase us,” Hawa Abdi, a neighbor, said.
The GRPD and Child Protective Services are investigating. Dixon says they will give their investigation to the Kent County Prosecutor to review and consider any possible criminal charges.

In December 2011, a Hausa Actress, Rabi Ismail who was sentenced to death by hanging, escaped from Hadejia prison, and her escape baffled many.
6 years later, Rabi has been recaptured by the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service with the support of men of the State Security Service, SSS.
The Hausa Actress, Ms. Ismail was sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide by a High Court in Kano on January 5, 2005.
She was subsequently held in Kaduna Central Prison from where she was transferred to Hadejia prison before she escaped about five years ago, the prison service public relations officer, Francis Enobore, said in a statement on Tuesday.
He expressed the appreciation of the Controller-General of Prisons, Jaa’faru Ahmed, to the DSS and the police for their assistance in recapturing the fugitive.
He appealed to members of the public to continue to provide useful information on escapees and indeed any criminal element in their midst to security agents, noting that such outlaws posed a security threat to the society.
Enobore said the CG said that security measures had been strengthened to prevent inmates in prison custody from escaping.
“Furthermore, escapees still at large will be fished out of their hidings no matter how long it takes to do so,” he assured.

Ghanaians are angry with MAVINs first lady, Tiwa Savage after a short clip of her concert in the country shows her dropping the country’s flag.
According to some furious Ghanaians, the way she treated the flag shows she has no respect for her fans and the country.
Videos from the Saturday night’s concert show how the singer and her dance troupe arrived the stage with the singer wearing the flag like a cape.
However, when her performance kicked off, she is seen tossing the flag to the floor, and many people think this is an insult to the country.

A newly wedded bride has set herself and her hsuband ablaze after she suspected he was still communicating with an ex-girlfriend.
The woman was said to have lit a petrol keg in their No 54 Middle Road residence in the Sabon Gari area of the city, which exploded, engulfing herself and the husband.
The husband, who did not die on the spot, was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention where he later died after suffering severe burns.
It was learnt that the woman accused her husband of infidelity shortly after she heard a conversation of her husband with an unidentified lady over the telephone.
She reportedly got angry and lit a keg of petrol within reach, which eventually exploded and engulfed their home at about 12am on Tuesday.
An eyewitness disclosed to our correspondent that the wife, who was burnt beyond recognition, died at the scene of the incident, while her husband also died at an undisclosed hospital where he was rushed to after receiving first aid at Fortress Hospital at Sarki Yaki within the metropolis.
Another eyewitness, Mr. Emmanuel Okorie, who simply identified the late husband as Emeka, said the couple hailed from Anambra State.
He said the late couple got married about five weeks ago.
He said the woman whose pregnancy should be about seven-months-old, joined the husband in Kano three weeks after the wedding.
Okorie, who could not establish whether it was the alleged telephone conversation that led to the unresolved dispute, however, told our correspondent that Emeka confided in him that his mother imposed the woman on him.
When contacted, spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, DSP Musa Magaji Majiya, said crack detectives from the Command had commenced an investigation to unravel the cause of the dispute.
Meanwhile, policemen from Nomansland Division had since deposited the remains of the couple at an undisclosed mortuary.

For his contribution towards the educational development of children, as well as affecting lives with his knowledge, talent and service to humanity, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Oluranti Adebule, has commended the author of newly launched children’s book series, Mr Olusegun Akande.
At the official launch of a new book series titled, Amazing Adventures of Izi and Larry the Dinosaur, published by Quramo Publishing under its Mango Books imprint; which took place at Quintessence, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, the Deputy Governor who was represented by the Director General, Office of Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Mrs Ronke Soyombo, said the book will serve as a good resource for children, parents, guardians and school authorities.
“I commend the passion and courage of the author for coming up with series of books, which signifies the rebirth of pride and passion in Nigeria and African history, culture and religion. The launch of these books has also confirmed your unrelenting efforts and contribution towards children’s educational development in our nation”, she said.
She also described the book as highly educative books that will serve as good and rich resourceful companions for professionals, teachers, principals, librarians and students, as she recommends the series to the public and encouraged parents to get copies for their children.
Also speaking, Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank, Mrs Bola Adesola said, “this is an encouragement to children and a welcome development, because many Nigerian children are being taken abroad at an early stage without the knowledge about their country”.

Kanu Ogbonna’s ex, Hannah Turay is not so excited that her kids are being dragged into what she refers to as “pity arguments” – this is after both he and his wife, Laura, came out to say that he has never been married but has two kids.

“My family friend delivered her baby by around 5pm d mother in law ws asked to go home to get cloths. Wen she returned with her son the doctor/midwife had left d hospital immediately after her delivery ask informed them by d two nurses on ground. The husband alarm d community chairman and elders with the youth and they went to ifo police, visited d place of delivery and only found d placeta and only one of d room ws locked.
The midwife ws spoken with around 10pm after several calls and she admitted d baby ws fyn and alive. The search team left d place around 11.30pm after waiting for d midwife who didn’t show up. The next morning 28th they went back to d police station that ws wen i ws contacted. Then d woman ws around there.
We all went back to d hospital and in one of d rooms already searched, a dead baby ws found which she claimed ve been in d building all thru 27th. She said d baby ws dead at birth. The locked room ws opened and money of different denominations wr found she also has d building construction going on behind d clinic.
The elders within her community claimed she came back to d clinic by 1am and showed them d dead baby. D DCO ifo said while he and his team searched d clinic no baby ws found. D dead body ve been taken to mortuary for autopsy, the wicked must not go unpunished “

It was a purely dramatic scene recently when a concubine slapped the groom in full view of the bride and on lookers at a wedding ceremony at the United Church of Zambia St Paul’s congregation in Lusaka, Zambia on Saturday.
According to Zambian Eye, Steven Simuyamba was given some physical counselling by Angel Tembo, a lady that claimed to be his fiancee, shortly after being pronounced husband to Annie Phiri.
It’s understood that the groom had promised Angel marriage, but she only learnt through an informer that the man she hoped was going to walk down the aisle with had picked another Mrs Right.
The Mtendere township resident rushed to the scene of the nuptials, perhaps after that dreadful announcement when witnesses are called to dispute the union.
Having missed an opportune time to jeopardize the ceremony, Angel’s best bet was to plant a slap in the face of the groom. She did not survive the backlash forcing congregants to descend on her clothes.
Angel was only saved by some good Samaritans.

Oyinyen Chuks, 34, was on Tuesday charged at The Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for locking up her 14-year old housemaid in a toilet for 20 days.
Chuks, a trader, who resides at 19, Ojo St., Shasha, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a four-count charge bordering on assault
The prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offences were committed between May 2 and May 22 at the residence of the accused.
Donny said that the accused alleged that the housemaid stole her money and beat her mercilessly.
“The accused locked the girl inside her toilet, fed her once and didn’t allow her to take a bath or change her clothes for those weeks in bondage.
“It was one of the neighbours who could not bear the torment anymore that informed the police”, he said.
The prosecutor said that following the report, the police visited the house and found the girl in the condition.
“Hence, the accused was arrested while the girl was taken to the hospital for treatment”, Donny said.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 171, 207, 245 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, Chuks pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Davies Abegunde, granted the accused N1million bail with two sureties in like sum.
Abegunde ordered the accused to pay N200,000 into the Court Registrar ‘s account as part of the bail conditions.
She adjourned the case until June 21 for mention.

The show, ‘Real Deal Experience’ that was held in C.S Park, Aba featured Orezi who performed some of their hits including, Shoki, Shuperu, Rihanna, Better Pikin as well as their only collaboration Reggae Blues.
Out of excitement, The Fan said:
