Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida will on Friday in Minna, Niger State be giving out his last daughter, Halimat, in marriage.
Halimat is the second daughter and last child of the family, born by his late wife, Maryam.
The groom is Alhaji Auwal Lawal Abdullahi, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Sudan Gombe. He is a businessman.
Meeting with the newly released 82 Chibok girls, First lady of the country, Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday, pledged her support in the resettlement of the recently rescued Chibok school girls.
She also advised them to forget the past and acquire skills to be self-reliant.
The wife of the President made these remarks during her meeting with the 82 freed Chibok school girls in Abuja – She was accompanied by the Minister of Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Minister of Women’s Affairs, Senator Jummai Alhassan.
Also at the meeting were the wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr Hajo Sani, and some wives of state governors.
Aisha urged the girls to also focus on their education as soon as they were reintegrated into the society.
“When you were away, we cried and prayed with your parents for your safe return,” she said.
“It gladdens my heart that after years of hoping, crying and praying, 82 of our Chibok daughters are out of captivity. I am still hopeful that the rest of the abducted girls will also return safe and sound, ” she’s quoted as saying.

Joy overflowed in Plateau State on Tuesday, May 9th, when a sixty-three-year-old woman said to be the oldest In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) recipient in Africa, gave birth to a healthy baby girl at the Gynaeville Specialist hospital, in Jos, through caesarean section.
The bouncing baby girl delivered at about 36 weeks around 10:51am weighed 135 kilogramme.
The new mother, Margaret Davou, who is a retired civil servant, and lives in Jos South local government area of the state, said she has been married for 38 years without a child, adding that she made an attempt in the past to conceive through assisted-reproductive health but failed.
The surgery was carried out by Jos-based senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Dr. Dalyop Nyango, and Consultant Gynaecologist, Jibrin Suleiman. They said both mother and baby are in stable condition.
One of the members of the team, Dr. Kenneth Egwuda, chairman of Gynaeville, said the “woman is the oldest to achieve pregnancy at the age of 62 in Africa. Based on available records, Mrs. Davou is the oldest woman in Africa to successfully undergo the procedure and give birth”, thereby making history.
Chief Surgeon, Dr. Caleb Miango, noted that the CS was done successfully without any complication, adding that with the new technology, it is possible to achieve pregnancy at old age.
Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kuden Kamshak, applauded the management of the hospital for recording such feat and achievement in the state. He promised to look at ways in which government could partner with the hospital to subsidise the treatment for women who need such services.
Her husband, Mr. Samson Davou, thanked God and the hospital management for their effort in assisting his wife to deliver safely.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, May 9, remanded a politician identified as Charles Eni-Umukoro over the murder of his wife, Louisa Eni-Umukoro, who was a director in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Justice Mary-Anne Aninih ordered the remand of Eni-Umukoro in Kuje Prison, FCT pending the hearing of his bail application.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) in February charged Umukoro with culpable homicide, which is punishable with death under Section 221 of the Penal Code. The defendant however denied the allegation.
According to the charge signed by Kenneth Ubanwa of the Legal/Prosecution Section of the Force Headquarters, Umukoro allegedly caused the death of the woman by “hitting her on the head which caused internal haemorrhage with the knowledge that her death would be the probable consequence.”
Attached with the charge is an autopsy report from the Department of Morbid Anatomy and Histopathology of the National Hospital in Abuja, which shows that the deceased died from ‘subdural haemorrhage’ resulting from two bruises on both sides of the neck, which the doctors said are products of ‘external force’.
The criminal charge followed a complaint by the deceased family, Eliab U. Ukponmwan of Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State, where they cited several incidents of violence among the two, which they alleged led to the deceased’s death on April 22, 2016.
In a petition to the IGP dated August 17, 2016, the family’s counsel, Barrister Ezekiel Ugochukwu stated that there exists circumstantial evidence against the husband based on the incidents of the evening of April 21, 2016, when she went to the hospital with head injuries.
“Until her untimely passing, she was one of the most experienced staff of the Commission, a consummate and hard working professional. She made indelible contributions to the current framework for regulating collective investment schemes in Nigeria during her fruitful years as Head of that Department. Her contribution to the work of the Committee on the Review of Minimum Paid-Up Capital for Market Operators earned her Commendation from Management in 2003.
“Her last posting was to Head the Zonal Office Coordinating (ZOC) Department. She was entrusted with that position as a mark of confidence in her ability to lead the transformation reforms needed at the Zonal Offices. Her demise is really sad because she was already doing a great job of introducing innovative ways to strengthen the Zonal Offices.
“Mrs. Louise Eni-Umukoro was a compassionate leader, a caring mother and a mentor to many who served under her. She has left a huge vacuum and will be sorely missed by all of us.
“She is survived by her son, and aged mother”

Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force in Imo State have apprehended some cultists during their initiation ceremony in a Secondary school.
This was made known in a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike in the state. The state reads in parts:
“On 10/05/2017 at about 06 50hrs, operatives of Orji Police Division received a distress call that a group of cultists were rampaging at Orji Comprehensive Secondary School during initiation activity and were shooting indiscriminately.
A combined team of operatives responded to the area. On sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums started shooting and fled to different locations. Thirty-one (31) suspected cultists were later arrested. The suspects are undergoing screening at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID)
The State Commissioner of Police CP Chris Ezike who coordinated the operation averred that cult related activities is a top priority in his road map to fighting crime and criminality in the state. He stated that those arrested would be charged to court after investigation.

Paul Arisa, a 27-year-old graduate of Estate Management from Abia State University went viral last year, after his friends solicited for help for him online to fight cancer…..But unfortunately he lost the battle.
Recall last year in February, His friend wrote:
Paul Arisa is a 27 year old post NYSC and a graduate of Estate management from Abia State University Uturu who has been battling cancer for years. His medical report states that he was diagnosed of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma by the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
Thereafter, the tumour achieved remarkable reduction. However, about a year after chemotherapy, the tumour started progressively increasing in size until it became a very huge neck mass and subsequently started affecting the left cervical lymph node, axillary and groin lymph node.
When no remarkable results were achieved, the doctors advised that radiotherapy could prove more effective. Unfortunately due to the high cost of the radiotherapy treatment (currently priced at almost 2million Naira), Paul is still currently waiting to gather enough funds to begin the treatment. He also has up to 5months unpaid Chemotherapy treatments, which also needs to be settled before any further progression with his treatments.
As Paul has been fighting this terrible condition for years, means that finances have already been stretched so far and his family are unable to meet the extra cost for treatment and require help.
Therefore, I am pleading for urgent donations of up to £8000. Please this is urgent as he is waiting on the funds to begin his treatment. If about 400 people donate only £20 he will reach this target, however please feel free to give whatever you can because every little help will go a long way.
Apparently, Paul was recovering, but unfortunately he lost the battle. May his soul rest in peace.

Dave Murphy, a dad-of-two has claimed that drinking his own urine every day helped him lose weight and feel “healthier and fitter than ever”.
According to him, he has been gulping cups of his own urine for over six years and says he eats very little else. Murphy, 54, who is from Essex County, England, said his special “urine therapy” has helped him lose 112 pounds.
Murphy spent 30 days in 2012 consuming his own urine – he told news outlet he used to drink the liquid body waste cold after letting it cool in the fridge but now downs it warm, twice daily.
“After drinking my urine, I feel healthier and fitter than I’ve ever done before and I’ve lost eight stone in weight.
“Most people think your wee is a waste product but it’s not. It’s actually cleaner than water.

Vanguard is reporting that the management of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said that it’d engaging operatives from the Nigerian Police, EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices, ICPC, and other Related Offences commission to monitor the examination centres in the forthcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UMTE.
Also to mount surveillance at the 624 JAMB centres nationwide on Saturday are operatives from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, the Department of State Services, DSS and special security forces to ensure a smooth exercise.
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja, said each JAMB’s test centre will have a supervisor, a technical officer, a verification officer, three proctors as well as security agents.
He further stated that, “Each state will be superintended over by a head of a tertiary institution (Vice-Chancellor, Rector or Provost) who coordinates the supervisors under his or her jurisdiction.”
Stating that the UTME will not be business as usual, Oloyede declared,
“it is certainly not going to be business as usual in the conduct of the Board’s examination and other processes. “In line with this resolution, the Board had secured through diligent prosecution, the conviction of two Nigerians who forged the Board’s results and came around for verification.
“At the moment, we have lodged complaints against a number of Computer-Based Test, CBT, centre owners for one infraction or the other and a number of them were arrested, cautioned, while others are to be prosecuted so as to serve as a deterrent to others.”
The JAMB Registrar warned candidates not to fall for the ploy of fraudsters who he said were out to defraud them, noting that there was a case at the Federal Government Science Technical College, Orozo, at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, where somebody was sending bulk messages to candidates to come and reprint their slips claiming to be from JAMB.

He was this sweet and loving person I know, he gave me all the attention I ever needed and was everything I could ever ask for. I even had to break up with the guy I was dating before because I thought I had found my Mr. Perfect( I told my ex I had found someone else who was always close to me. And he was like if am happy with my decision he won’t stop me. I should make my self happy).
The new guy always assured me things will be fine of which I don’t know what he meant by that (maybe he wanted to leave his gf for me ) Things were going all fine until he started misbehaving taking me for granted and was always lying to me(aghhh I hate it when u lie to me and especially when it comes from someone I love.) and taking me for a fool( am this intelligent girl, I perceive things even before they happen).
He always want me to talk about my past relationships and how I broke up with my ex boyfriend, but when ever I ask about his girlfriend he will just come up with flimsy excuse and start acting up. The reporter who won an excellence award for malaria reporting, died on Sunday, after she suddenly took ill before she passed away.
It was gathered that her death has thrown the entire Daar Communications family in Rivers state into mourning as she became third member of staff of the Station that have died in the past few months.

During my last trip to the town last December, Bitrus was one of my guides, he borrowed me his bicycle to ride around and would take me to the homes of parents whose daughters were missing. After a hard day’s work, me and Bitrus would relax under a shed, eat suya and coke. Bitrus’ sister Mariamu was among the girls abducted, the day it happened, he jumped on his okada, armed with a stick and pursued the terrorists foolhardy. His parents, who are both blind have relocated to the farm, unable to cope with the incident. But Bitrus never allowed his personal sorrow to change him, he rejoiced with the girls who returned and mourned with those still missing. I kept in touch with Birtrus and other wonderful families in Chibok like the Allen family who housed and fed me, I slept in their best room and ate the best food. (God bless them). So Bitrus called and told me excitedly .” My sister has been released, she is one of the 82 girls released.” I have never been happier, seeing this happen and you are a witness to history. Ubi Franklin yesterday, narrated the story of how a Chinese Man tried to stab him to death yesterday, at a furniture company, in Lekki.
He wrote:
Earlier today I was at LIFEMATE furniture show room at the palms Lekki to enquire about a service I paid for that wasn’t attended to. I was then asked by a junior staff (Nigerian) to speak to his “OGA” (a Chinese man).
The Chinese man paid me no attention when I approached him with my concerns, he rather walked away as I was still trying to make my concerns known to him. So I followed up to say his attitude was unacceptable and then proceeded to leave the shop since he wasn’t going to pay me any attention or courtesy as a returning customer.
As I was walking out the door I heard someone scream, I turned my back, only for me to see the Chinese man running towards me with two knives. But for the quick intervention of my cousin the story would have been different.
I handed him over to the police who then transferred him to Maroko police station and he was asked why he wanted to stab me and he said Cos I said “see this Chinese man o” .

Now, he has revealed that the said Chinese Man has been released just 5 hours after his arrest. He wrote:

NAFDAC office area in Oshodi was in serious disarray yesterday afternoon when a policewoman, attached to Makinde Police Division, Oshodi area of Lagos, got a die hard beating of her life by a female soldier.
According to Vanguard, A police source said the police traffic warden was on an official duty when she got assaulted and beaten to coma by the female soldier, adding that the woman had been admitted in an undisclosed hospital.
“The case of assault has been reported to Police Command Headquarters for further investigation.”
Although, nobody knew what led to the rift between the uniform women but an eyewitness said there was an intense argument between the two female officers which later resulted to an outburst.
A South African Lady, Mapaseka Semenyane desperately needs help with her 16-months-old son, who already weighs 18,5kg.
Mapaseka, 30, who hails from Phase 7 Kasi in Mangaung spoke to Daily Sun about her boy, Lucky who was already wearing clothes means for age 4 and six and even has size seven shoes.
She said she couldn’t carry Lucky on her back because he weighed as much as a 10-year-old.
Mapaseka is very worried about her son as he keeps gaining weight at an abnormally fast pace.
The worried mum said:
“I gave birth by C-section at Pelonomi Hospital last April. Lucky weighed 3,9kg at birth and he has been growing very fast ever since.
“He now weighs 18,5kg and doctors say that’s the weight for a 10-year-old. The doctors have been testing his heart and so far they have said there is no sign of anything to worry about.
“They say they will not be sending him for any more tests.
“I can’t hold my child or carry him on my back.
“Luckily a Good Samaritan donated a pram but his clothes don’t last long as they become too small in a matter of days.”
Nthabiseng Mbalo (31), whose son Itumeleng was born 17 days before Lucky, said her child wore size three shoes.
“Mapaseka gives me clothes that no longer fit Lucky and I give her money for new stuff for him,” she said.
Free State Health Department spokesman, Mondli Mvambi, said they would continue to monitor and support Lucky’s family.
There have been speculations over an alleged letter President Buhari sent to the senate informing them of his trip to London for medical check-up and that the president did not properly hand over power to the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo.
Addressing this speculation, acting president Yemi Osinbajo via his twitter handle last night responded to a user who asked why the President didn’t hand over the affairs of the country to him.
Osinbajo confirmed that the president actually transferred power to him via the letter sent to the senate in accordance with S.145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
That section of the constitution reads:
“Whenever the President transmits to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration that he is proceeding on vacation or that he is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of his office, until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary such functions shall be discharged by the Vice-President as Acting President.”
However, Osinbajo had deleted his tweet.
