The Federal Government says its anti corruption agencies have been inundated with information of how looters have resorted to burying stolen funds in their backyards, deep forests and burial grounds.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, said the whistle blower policy is working and has led to the recovery of more looted funds in many currencies.
Mohammed assured in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Mr Segun Adeyemi, that all the recovered looted funds were safe and government will give full account to Nigerians.
The minister thanked Nigerians for their enthusiasm and commitment in helping the government to tackle corruption through disclosure of useful leads to appropriate government agencies.
“Since we launched the whistle blower policy, we have received immeasurable support from Nigerians.
“Yes, there is monetary reward for any information that leads to recovery of looted funds, but from what we have seen, most of the Nigerians who have come forward with useful leads were driven by patriotism rather than reward.
”Nigerians, fired by a fervid resolve to help banish corruption from their country, have daily inundated the offices of the appropriate government agencies with valuable information.
“We have been told how looters have resorted to burying stolen funds in their backyards, in deep forests and even in burial grounds.
”Thanks to whistle-blowers, it is now clear that a rapacious few have pillaged the nation’s wealth through a vicious orgy of corrupt practices,” he said.
The minister, however, noted that more funds were in the possession of looters than were available to government at all levels to meets its obligations including paying workers’ salaries and providing social amenities.
He stressed that the government will not abandon the policy for whatever reason, but will continue to rejig it and make it more effective as a tool for fighting corruption.
The minister assured that as soon as the necessary reconciliation process and the litigation in some of the cases were concluded, government would give full account of the recovered looted funds to Nigerians.
Mohammed re-assured Nigerians who have useful information on looted funds that the government will protect their identities and give them their stipulated reward.

On Saturday, August 24, 2013, 13-year-old Daniel Ohikhena, from Owan, Edo State, stowed from Benin Airport to Lagos in the wheel well of Arik flight W3 544. When the flight landed at the Lagos Airport, security agents and passengers aboard the flight were shocked to see the boy creeping out of one of the wheels of the aircraft.
The security agents and passengers thought he was a ghost until they found that the boy stowed to Lagos. Daniel told journalists then that he thought the flight was going to America as he wanted to travel outside Nigeria.

However, that silly move he made gave him the opportunity of being in school today, after then Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State adopted Daniel and gave him scholarship. Daniel, whose parents are separated, is from a very poor home and confessed that one of the things that motivated him into that dangerous adventure was his dream to be a pilot. He is 16 years old now and in SS 1 in Edo College, Benin-City. On holidays, Sunday Vanguard ran into Daniel, last week, where he was assisting his mother, who is into petty trading, at the Oba market. He is taller now and more mature.
Luckily for Daniel, the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki continued, sponsoring his education and other children popularly referred to as Oshiomhole’s children. That can be said to be one of the positive aspects of continuity in government. Oshiomhole’s handing over to Obaseki, also from his party, the APC, means there is hope for these children, about twenty of them.
Some of the Oshiomhole adopted children are in universities across the country. As a matter of fact, some of the kids include the ones the state government brought back to Edo from Borno when Boka Haram insurgency raged. Some of them had lost their parents but Oshiomhole sent three luxury buses to the North to bring back these Edo indigenes languishing then in refugee camps.
Meanwhile, Daniel, in a chat with Sunday Vanguard, stated that during the governorship election, he prayed that Oshiomhole’s candidate should win
“because I was scared that if the PDP took power, they will stop my scholarship”. The former stowaway boy continued:
“And thank God Obaseki won and since he came in, he has been doing his best for me. I am very fine at school. He has been paying my school fees and I am very grateful.
I thank him for continuing with my scholarship and God will bless him. But I want to see him and thank him personally”.
Asked about his school work and ambition to be a pilot, Daniel said:
“My school has teachers who are well trained. Gov. Ohsiomhole rehabilitated our school and recruited good teachers who have been doing very well. In fact, my school is better than most private schools which big men’s children attend. I like the school and enjoy my studies. I am a member of the school cricket team and I am doing very well. I am a science student and I am good in computer studies. I wanted to be a pilot but I think I will do better in computer engineering. I have been told that I can still do piloting after becoming a computer engineer”.
Recalling his experience inside the wheel that day he stowed away, Daniel stated:
“I was 13 years then when I entered the wheel well of the plane. Each time I see a plane flying, I always look at it and remember what I did. In fact, now, I feel stupid each time I remember that incident but I believe God wanted it to be that way. If not, I would not have gotten this scholarship and I am from a poor home.
My mother is struggling to train us including my siblings and it has not been easy. But thank God, after what happened, our governor then, Comrade Oshiomhole, gave me scholarship after he invited me to his office. Governor Oshiomhole helped me that time. He discovered me and told me that I should work hard so that I could achieve all I want in life. He gave me a chance to be educated and I am very grateful to him.
“I always discuss the issue with my friends in school and some of them wished they were me. Whichever way you look at it, I have entered the plane before but most of them have not. So sometimes I feel proud of what I did and sometimes I feel stupid when I was told that I could have died in the incident”.
Told that the wheel well of the plane is always hot, and whether he felt the heat, he replied:
“It was not hot really. The temperature was normal. I was really not scared of anything because I was determined to travel out. The only thing is that I now have one challenge in my ears due to the noise from the engines of the plane. It is like the noise still echoes in my ears giving me the impression that I may have problems with my ears.
“The only issue I want to appeal to Governor Obaseki now is that I want to see him and thank him. He is a good father. Again I want to beg him to help my mother. We don’t have a home right now because my mum can’t pay house rent. The landlord is threatening to give us quit notice. And now that I am on holidays, I am scared of where to stay. Each time we are at home, the landlord will come with a lawyer and they will be harassing my mum over house rent. It is really disturbing. I want to appeal to Governor Obaseki to help my mum in that regard. And I still want to travel outside Nigeria to further my education and learn more. I want to grow up as a responsible man so that I can help my mother.
We are four in the family and it is hard for my mum to pay my sisters’ school fees. She is into petty trading and after she manages to give us food, it is always difficult to pay house rent and school fees for my sisters. I wish my mother is doing a big business that would have helped her to provide well for us. So I really want to do something extra for myself and that is why I will be happy to go to a place where I can be schooling and working to make money and help the family”.

Big Brother Naija First Runner up, Bisola Aiyeola’s Baby Daddy has denied ever abandoning her on the altar. He says they’ve never been to the altar, adding that their relationship just didn’t work out due to personal differences.
Olanrewaju Malcolm who is an artiste manager and a showbiz promoter admits he’s the father of Bisola’s child, Leyla.
In is words with Sunday Scoop, Malcolm said:

Professor Abioje Pius Oyeniran of University of Ilorin, has dismissed the age-long Biblical claim that Jesus Christ died to save the world.
Speaking while delivering the 167th Inaugural Lecture of the university, entitled, ‘Christian Prophets and Other Prophets in Nigeria’, the professor said Jesus Christ was killed by haters of truth. Abioje, who noted that critical prophets should anticipate opposition and conspiracy from unexpected quarters, said:
“The conspiracy that killed Jesus Christ came from the millieu of the chief priest and the political elite.
“Regrettably,the interpretations by many Christians is that God wanted Jesus to die so as to save the world. Yet the world continues to persecute innocent critical prophets. “Why cannot Christians emphasise that Jesus was killed by haters of truth,the religio-political powers that be,particularly since the world is still seeking redemption?
“Nigerians should learn to see critical prophets as friends of the society,and pardon them whenever they happen to err,since no human being is infallible.”
The professor asked the people in positions of authority to learn to see critical prophets as partners in progress towards human edification,not as adversaries. The university don also admonished:
“Divinatory/esoteric prophets should avoid fraudulence.” They should see their divinatory knowledge as divine endowment to be used altruistically and not for exploitation.
“People who consult esoteric prophets should be discerning and not gullible. “ They should avoid frequent recourse to divinatory prophecy to avoid mediumistic psychosis”
Abioje also urged Nigerians to strive to become critical prophets to speak against evil on behalf of God and try to live holy lives.
He however advised: “Academic p rogrammes generally should include introduction to critical prophecy,which makes a person to be committed to advocacy in godly words and actions,even as medical doctors,engineers,architects,lawyers and so on and not only as clergy men and women, Virtues for which critical prophets strive is unarguably the key to individual and social progress,even when truth can be very bitter.”
Yesterday, TBoss’ younger sister, Wendy took to twitter to rant and slammed the organizers of Big Brother Naija for giving Kemen the same celebrity treatment as other ex-housemates.
Wendy expressed her disgust after Kemen is being dragged along with other housemates during their special visits, events, media tour and press conference.
She noted that she feels sick adding that Nigerians keep accepting mistakes with no consequences.

A 19-year-old Nigerian Lady, Kika Onyiba who’s a Law Student at Birmingham University, UK, passed away on Wednesday, 12th of April due to some complications that arose from her ruptured appendix surgery.
Her Boyfriend, Emmanuel Ayoola took to his Facebook to share the story and also recount her last words to her mother.
Apparently, Kika traveled down to Nigeria from UK to get treated for what she felt was an infection, but later turned out to be a ruptured appendix.
Kika’s last moment with her mother was when she asked her: “Kika, are you scared?” to which she replied her mum: “No, I’m at peace. I know where I’m going if I don’t come out and I will be with Jesus”
Tributes have been pouring in from her friends, family and boyfriend. They revealed she was a gentle soul, kind and generous. Kika will be laid to rest at Ikoyi cemetery on Tuesday 18th of April 2017.

THE senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, on Saturday escaped assassination attempt on his life as unknown gunmen attacked his residence in Ayetoro-Gbede, Ijumu local government area of the state.
The assailants were said to have invaded the residence at about 12 am, shooting sporadically into the building.
After the rain of bullet that lasted over one hour, two of the vehicles parked within the premises were damaged, while part of the building was also destroyed.
Narrating his ordeal to newsmen, the senator said the assailants came in some minutes after 12 midnight and started shooting indiscriminately into his building.
He said the hoodlums shot at intervals with little break for more than one hour where two vehicles, a security van and caravan bus were destroyed.

Melaye also said accused the Police division of Aiyetoro Gbede that allegedly failed to come to his house until three hours after the assailants had left despite being a stone thrown from his house.
“The DPO did not come to my house until three hours later. Even the area command in Kabba was not notified until I called the CP. I suspect a satanic collabo between Taofiq and the police in Aiyetoro because the duo had a meeting two days ago.
“Only God will protect us in this country but definitely not the police”.
However, the local government chairman, who is also the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), said he had no hand in the alleged attack on the senator.
He said he had never been a violent person, saying he had been busy attending to his sick wife.
Isa, who challenged Melaye to prove his allegation against him said, “I’ve never been a violent man. My running battle with Dino if any is because I have asked him to stop vilifying the state governor, Yahaya Bello.

37 year old, Ifeanyi Ajaero has been arrested by the Ogun State Police command for allegedly chaining his 28 year old wife to a generator from night till the following morning.
The wife simply identified as Obiageli chained to the generator on the night of Friday, 14th April till the next morning, Saturday 15th April, 2017.
She was said to have been seriously beaten by her husband before he allegedly chained her there.
The Ogun police interrogated the suspect and he admitted to chaining his wife to the generator, but claimed his actions were for “self-defense”.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who described the action of the suspect as the height of wickedness has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the state Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

A 500-level student of the Federal University of Akure (FUTA) was allegedly killed by a police officer during a peaceful protest with his kinsmen in his hometown.
The deceased, identified as Julius Adeniran was home for the holiday when he yesterday, joined the Igbara Odo youth in a peaceful protest.. The policemen who tried to disrupt the protest shot into the crowd to disperse them, but unfortunately the bullet hit the 500 level student of FUTA.
His friends shared the sad news on Facebook and wrote tributes to mourn the deceased. One of his friends, Olowolafe Mayowa Samuel, wrote:
“Good Friday turned a bad one here. Son of man fell and pool of tears was inevitably instigated today in my hometown.
My brother, late Ayilumo Julius was an indigene of Igbara Odo Ekiti, a 500level student of FUTA and a youth with a never giving up spirit. He loved me so much and he believed in the future of our hometown. He was shot and killed today by police officers while the officers were trying to halt a peaceful protest staged by Igbara Odo youths.

The Nigerian Police Special Inteligence Response Team has cracked down a notorious fraud syndicate led by one Mr. Ifeanyi Ezenwa, an inmate of the Kuje Maximum Prison, Abuja.
Reports by Punch have it that the syndicate specializes in defrauding victims, mostly business using fake bank alerts.
It was gathered that the syndicate would approach the businessmen, pretending to buy goods from them.
“After negotiations, they would ask their victims to forward their account number in order to do a money transfer. They would inform their victim that the transfer had been made and the victim would receive an alert to the effect. But when a victim goes to the bank to confirm his balance, the money would not be in the account.
They did this mostly late on Fridays knowing that banks do not work on weekends and the victim may not be able to make any confirmation in the banking halls.
Usually, some victims would release the goods to them. The leader of the gang who is in prison… browses through online retail sites like OLX, JiJi and Jumia, where he connects with people who want to sell their valuables especially cars, chatting with them via Whatsapp,” one IRT source said.
One of the syndicate’s victims, Mohammed Saleke said that Ifeanyi swindled him of a Mercedes G Wagon worth N7m.
He said that Ezenwa sent one of his gang members who took a photography of the vehicle and negotiated the price with him.
“My boy, Obinna, was the one dealing with them and when they agreed to our price. They took my account number and went to the bank to withdraw the money. They insisted on transferring the money to my Diamond Bank account. When I gave it to them, I received an alert after one hour and I called them to come and collect their vehicle. That was on a Friday, but by Monday when I went to the bank to check my account, I discovered there was no money paid in it.
When I received the alert, it had my previous balance in it and the total money was balanced. I wondered how he was able to get access into my account. This incident happened in November 2016 and I have been looking for the vehicle,” Saleke said.
