Hospitals in Maiduguri have discharged five hospitalized victims while two died out of the 80 severely injured victims moved from Rann in Kala-Balge to Maiduguri by the United Nations Humanitarian Air Services and the Nigerian Air Force both of which provided 7 helicopters for the evacuation that ended on Thursday.
Borno State Commissioner for Health, Dr Haruna Mshelia in situation update on Thursday, said the State Specialist Hospital currently has 68 of the victims after those initially hospitalized at the military hospital at 7th Division of the Nigerian Army were all moved to the State Specialist Hospital on Thursday.
He noted that 5 victims are at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, making 73 persons. The Commissioner said two of the victims were unfortunately lost, one died at the State Specialist Hospital while the other, died at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
“But happily, five have been discharged by doctors after they were certified to have fully regained their health. We are also hopeful that all the rest will be fine by the Grace of God. Nigerians should pray for their speedy recovery” the Commissioner said.
Dr. Mshelia however said 42 victims with minor injuries will remain in Rann given the fact that medical teams from the MSF, the ICRC and the State Government and other partners have enough medical supplies and health workers which make them capable of addressing their health needs.
The Commissioner lauded the efforts of the MSF, the ICRC and the UN for their extraordinary commitment to meeting the emergency humanitarian needs of the victims. On death toll, Dr Mshelia said it will be announced soon after all stakeholders harmonize their records based on number of bodies buried and those recovered.

Award winning R&B singer, Dare Art Alade and his wife Deola Ayeni Art-Alade have been married for a decade and in an industry where marriages ends faster than a porn star’s career, LIB asked him the secret to his successful union that’s already been blessed with two kids.
He says:
‘By just taking things easy, it’s the grace of God. Also, spending time with your family, it is important to realize what is important to you, put your family first. You have to protect your family and you keep answers to such questions very short. You don’t want to say too much, saying too much is unnecessary. It’s really nobody’s business. The tongue and teeth fight but still in the same mouth. Brothers and sister have arguments too. Nobody has a perfect relationship but it is how you manage yourself that is important. Once you start involving the public or different people, it gets a bit difficult. I didn’t get married because I want to count 50 years or what people will say about me, I got married for myself’ he said.
Reacting to a statement made by Flavour in 2016 where he said ‘it’s impossible to be in the industry and have a successful marriage’, Darey says, ‘what am I supposed to think? He was speaking for himself lol! He wasn’t talking about me. How do I answer the question when I am living in the situation? I am already an answer to the question. But away from that, there are lots of responsibility involved in marriage and if you are not ready for it, then you are not ready for it, but it is important to speak for yourself. You can’t generalize’.

This lady, when asked which she preferred between the two options, said she prefers the former rather than have her man cheat on her and when asked why she’d prefer to be a victim of domestic violence, which is a major problem in the country, the lady says, she’d rather not have “sicknesses (STDs) and all those things“.

The Nigeria police raided Premium Times head office in Abuja, and arrested the newspaper’s publisher. The publisher, Dapo Olorunyomi, was arrested alongside the paper’s judiciary correspondent, Evelyn Okakwu.
Plain-clothed officers conducted search at the office shortly after 5p.m. Thursday, and said they were acting on a complaint filed by the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.
The arrests came days after Premium Times turned down the army’s demand to retract news stories about the Nigerian Army and its operations.
The paper’s Editor-in-Chief, Musikilu Mojeed, condemned the raid.
“They should stop deluding themselves that they can muzzle the press and intimidate Premium Times,” said Mr. Mojeed. “They should know that our loyalty lies with our readers and the Nigerian people who have a right to know.”
He said the paper will continue “to discharge its responsibilities in line with global best practices, social responsibility and patriotism, even at great risk to our personal liberties”.

Gambia’s President Adama Barrow has taken the oath of office in neighbouring Senegal, calling for international support as a bloc of West African countries ammased a military force ready to intervene in his favour.
Longtime ruler Yahya Jammeh, who came to power in a 1994 coup, has refused to step down despite losing a disputed December 1 presidential election, deepening a political crisis.
Barrow, who had recently sought shelter in Senegal, was inaugurated on Thursday in a hastily-arranged ceremony at Gambia’s embassy in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.

“This is a day no Gambian will ever forget in a lifetime,” Barrow said in a speech immediately after being sworn in.
Shortly after his inauguration, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution backing efforts by West African states to ensure Barrow assumes power from Jammeh, but stressed that this should be pursued by political means first.

The council’s decision came as the Nigerian army said it was deploying troops to Gambia as part of an operation by ECOWAS, West Africa’s regional bloc, aiming to uphold the result of last month’s vote.
“The Nigerian military will deploy its assets as part of (a) standby force to protect the people of the Gambia and maintain sub regional peace and security,” the armed forces said in a statement.

The survivor who along with others is receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital said:
“The bombs were dropped on us thrice and there was no way a mistake could be made thrice.”
Speaking further on the attack, the survior pointed that there was nothing accidental about the air strike.
“There was nothing accidental about the attack and it could not be referred to as a mistake.
“The Federal Government should stop telling Nigerians that it was a mistake; for this was not. It was nothing but an unprovoked attack on a civilian populace.
“This was not a new camp and the attack happened when people queued up to receive humanitarian materials.”
Another survivor of the attack, Abba Yusuf, said: “This is the same force that told the world that they did not drop the bomb on insurgents in the Sambisa Forest because of human shield but weeks later, dropped bombs on unarmed civilians in an IDPs’ camp.
“Could they have been blindfolded to know that we were in a queue and we were unarmed or could they have mistaken the IDPs camp for the haven of insurgents?”
