As the current year comes to a round off, Bishop Dr. David Oyedepo has warned Nigerians to expect harsher economic challenges in the nearest future.
The Pioneer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, therefore, urged them to draw closer to God, if they wanted to survive the impending tough times.
Oyedepo was speaking during the opening session of the annual Shiloh programme of his church in Ota, Ogun State on Tuesday.
“It looks tough presently but it’s going to get tougher in the days to come. Obedience to the terms of covenant will put you in total command. When all your obedience is fulfilled, all opposition is brought down,” he said.
However, from scriptures, all the children of the covenant, who walk according to biblical truth will always enjoy exemptions from the gross darkness and evils plaguing the world.”
The opening session of the programme was attended by over 2,000 delegates from 41 countries, according to a statement from the church.
First lady of Lagos, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, has enjoined the city’s citizens to extend a hand of love and put smiles on the faces of the less privileged persons this yuletide season.
She gave the charge while declaring open the 2016 edition of the Lagos Television Christmas Fair, at the TV complex, Ikeja.
She noted that the yuletide was a season for sharing and caring, making it a necessary moral responsibility for parents and people that are better-off, to assist the less privileged ones in whatever ways they could.
According to her,
“I enjoin the parents to spare a thought for other children, who have no one to cater for them. Let us lend a helping hand to make the world a better place, by developing the spirit of giving in our children”.
Mrs Ambode urged the children to imbibe the qualities of humility, meekness, selflessness and holiness that distinguished Jesus Christ in His own generation.
Speaking further, she lauded the management and staff of the television for sustaining the tradition of the fair established thirty-two years ago, describing it as a worthy legacy that has outlived its founding fathers.
In his welcome address, the commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, noted that the administration attached much importance to entertainment and relaxation for residents of the state, as a way of helping them to unwind.
He said:
“The administration of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode placed high premium on entertainment as a form of relaxation for the citizenry. This has informed the hosting of the Lagos Fiesta in the last week of 2015, the flying of the Lagos Corner at the 50th edition of the Nottinghill Carnival in London, the active participation of the state at Toronto Film Festival and a host of others”.
He noted further that this Christmas fair “coming shortly after the successful hosting of the Lagos Street Party by the government, confirmed the status of Lagos as the entertainment hub of the West African Coast”.
The commissioner who hinted that the state would be celebrating its 50th anniversary of creation next year, urged Lagosians to brace up for the next edition of One Lagos Fiesta, featuring five-day simultaneous entertainment in five locations in the state, to usher in the new year.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday December 6, 2016 arraigned one Obonor John Damilola (a.ka Frank Mcghee Clinton) before Justice D.U Okorowo of the Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti, on a 24 count charge bordering obtaining money by false pretense, possession of fraudulent documents, concealment and retention of proceed of crime. Obohor however pleaded not guilty.
One of the charges reads: “That you Obonor John Damilola (a.ka Frank Mcghee Clinton) on or about the 21stof June, 2016 at Ado-Ekiti within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of $3200 USD (Three Thousand Two Hundred United State of America Dollars) from Lusmar Duprey Marte, a United State of American Citizen when you falsely represented that you are one Frank Mcghee Clinton of the United States of American Army, which representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related punishable under Section 1(3)of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act 2006”.
Another count read: “That you Obonor John Damilola (a.ka Frank Mcghee Clinton) on or about the 22nd of June, 2016 at Ado-Ekiti within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of $3500 USD (Three Thousand Five Hundred United State of America Dollars) from Lusmar Duprey Marte, a United State of American Citizen when you falsely represented that you are one Frank Mcghee Clinton of the United States of American Army, which representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006”.
In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel Sanusi M. Galadanchi asked for a trial date.

Justice Okorowo, however adjourned the matter to the 9th of December, 2016 for the hearing of bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Federal Prison, Ado-Ekiti.

A woman believed to be the world’s fattest, a 78 stone woman is leaving her home for the first time in 25 years to have life-saving weight reduction surgery.
Iman Ahmad Abdulati, 26 – who tips the scales at over half a tonne (over 78.7 stone) – is to fly to India from her home in Alexandria, Egypt, after one of the world’s leading bariatric surgeons volunteered to treat her.
But Iman’s op was almost grounded before it began after immigration officials at India’s embassy in Cairo refused to believe she was too big to visit to make her visa application.
Indian law requires visa applicants allow immigration police to take their fingerprints.
They only backed down when surgeon Dr Muffazzal Lakdawala used Twitter to contact India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to ask for help.
His tweet read: “Ma’am, Eman Ahmed (Egypt) 500kgs requested me 2 save her pls help me get her a medical visa as refused thru normal process @SushmaSwaraj”
He explained later: “Iman can’t move because of her condition, and due to her weight, it is near impossible to move her.”
He added: “But the Indian Embassy in Cairo wasn’t ready to accept it.
“The officers thought that the family was bluffing and kept asking the family members to bring Iman to the embassy to scan her fingerprint.
“They didn’t pay any heed to the family’s requests and, as a result, Iman’s visa was rejected.”
The Minister replied to the doctor’s tweet immediately and the visa request was granted and everything could go forward. She said: “Thanks for bringing this to my notice. We will definitely help her.”
Now, however, the medic is struggling with the mammoth problem of getting Iman to Mumbai this week for a series of ops that could last a year.
He told local media he plans to – at first – use a bariatric balloon to fill up part of Iman’s digestive tract.
The doctor reckons she could lose as much as 62 stone in two years.
He said: “Due to her heavy weight, we can’t bring her in a normal plane, so we are trying to arrange a private chartered flight instead.”
The plane will have to be refitted with a reinforced bed because Iman’s weight makes it impossible for her to sit upright in a chair.

A statement by Special Adviser to the President, Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, has been issued to the public, concerning the recent tragic report of the NYSC corp members who lost their lives in the weeks past.

“President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with the families of three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who lost their lives recently during the 2016 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Programme in three States.
The President, who describes the demise of these young Nigerians as “shocking, sad and unfortunate,” regrets that they died in the course of answering the national call to serve.
He urges the families, friends and associates of the deceased to be consoled by the knowledge that their loved ones paid the supreme price while on national service and not for ignoble reasons.
President Buhari also extends condolences to the Director-General and Management of the NYSC over the transition of the youth corps members, Chinyerum Nwenenda Elechi, Ifedolapo Oladepo and Monday Asuquo Ukeme, in Bayelsa, Kano and Zamfara States respectively.
While enjoining the Management to do all within its powers to protect the lives of those under its charge, the President calls on parents and guardians of current and potential NYSC participants not to panic over the recent tragic deaths.
On the particular death of Miss Ifedolapo Oladepo in Kano State, President Buhari has ordered an independent investigation to unravel the true circumstances.
He prays that God will grant the souls of the departed youths eternal rest.

Some suspected armed robbers have written some Lagos residents urging them to prepare to pay season’s dues to them on a date not mentioned.
Residents of Joseph Harrison Estate, Yaba area of Lagos State got the letter from the bandits on Wednesday notifying them of their impending attack to collect their “dues” for the festive season.
NAN gathered that the letter was placed on the vehicle of one of the residents and was discovered in the morning when he was about to wash his car.
”We are coming this week to collect our dues and to visit you tenants and landlords of Joseph Harrison Street in the week. If you like go and bring police or soldiers, we are coming to perform our duties. “If you cooperate, we will not kill, but if you fail to cooperate, blood will flow,” the letter said.
Mr Bolanle Akinyemi, Chairman, Community Development Association said the estate had enjoyed some peace for a long while as it was protected by guards and the police from Sabo Police Post.
”We are also mindful of the slum that surrounds us and we have been conscious of suspected criminals,” he said. “No one has received such letter before, but there was a case in 2013 when a company in the estate was robbed,” he said.
The chairman said they have reported the threat to Sabo Police Division and more guards have been engaged at the estate. Concerned residents urged the commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni to deploy more men to patrol the estate regularly.

November to be precise!! The national carrier confirmed in a statement that Flight PK-661, from the city of Chitral to Islamabad, had lost contact with air traffic controllers.
Airline spokesman Danyal Gilani said 37 of those on board were passengers.
The aircraft was carrying ‘around 40 people’, the airline said in a statement, but the civil aviation authority said 47 people were on board.
It is not yet clear how many casualties there were. The airline said it has mobilised its emergency response centre.

“But, particularly, the book speaks to Ndigbo of what we had gone through and have continued to go through in this country. We are never a people that will accept defeat.
“Having gone through hardship and deprivation, we have remained stronger. So, as survivals, Ndigbo the world over should rise up and just keep going forward.”
