linda1-660x400

Blogger, Linda Ikeji has finally heeded the advice of some of her friends who have for long urged her to establish a proper business with a practical structure.

According to Sunday Scoop, Linda moved into an office whose rent has been estimated to be about N10m per annum in highbrow Lekki Phase 1.

The building, we learnt, has been partitioned into 22-room offices, housing studio, editing suite, two lounges, VIP waiting room, radio booth, section for her yet- to- be unveiled Linda Ikeji Music, LIS administrative office, bloggers office and her own office.

Ikeji, who has engaged the services of top professionals to man different departments, is launching two additional businesses that are online related, TV programmes and an online radio.

One of the businesses she will be launching is Linda Ikeji Music, which we learnt will be in competition with NotjustOk. The other one is LIS which might have something to do with fashion.

“Linda has finally registered her company and is planning to move on to greater things beyond the success that everybody can see. She feels there is still much that she could still achieve, there are unconquered territories and many unexplored opportunities between the worlds of social media she needs to explore.

She is not just satisfied with being the number one blogger and she doesn’t want to remain a one-man business anymore. She has the track record and what it takes to function as one of the business houses in Africa and that is what she is doing,” A source in the know told Sunday Scoop.

Sunday Scoop visited the office and while interacting with some of the workers on site, it was revealed that equipping the office has so far cost the blogger about N85m.

Despite repeated enquiries, the blogger told Sunday Scoop that when she is ready she would speak about the new development.

In an exclusive chat with Sunday Scoop, popular Nollywood actress and producer, Uche Jombo, said before she got married five years ago, she never dated anybody that lived in Nigeria.

When asked how it feels being married to a man who lives in America, the mother of one said the feeling was not strange as she never dated any man that lived in Nigeria.

“Before I got married, I had always dated people who lived outside Nigeria. As a result, being married to someone who lives abroad does not seem bizarre. I didn’t plan to marry someone who lives abroad. Rather, it just happened.”

She advised ladies not to be pressurised into getting married.

“Marry because you know this is what you want to do once in your lifetime. You have to be married to someone you can do everything with. Don’t marry because people say it is time to get someone. Get married for yourself. The pressure today will not be worth the ache tomorrow.”

In order to defy joblessness, Michelle, a graduate of the department of International Studies and Diplomacy from the University of Benin, ventured into shoemaking, designing patterns and building shoes herself.

Michelle, in an interview with Lukmon of Wazobia Global Times USA, explained how the journey into shoemaking started for her.

See excerpts from the interview below:

shoe-making-01

So Why shoemaking?
My inspiration is from God, I never knew I would be a shoemaker. I graduated from the University six years ago, after which I looked for for job, but to know avail. At sometimes I got employed by a company in Lagos, but the boss was owing too much so I left.

On how it started, there is this other company I buy sandals in Lagos and resell. They sell nice shoes, so one day I thought to myself that I can tell this people to make sandals for me with my label, so I approached them and they said yes. That was how I got my first set of shoes. Then a friend introduced me to a guy that makes shoes. I watch him make shoes one day and I was amazed then I asked him to teach me and he did.

That’s a lovely beginning.

See What Militants Vowed To Do If Boko Haram Kills Christians & Burns Churches

By Emma Amaize For Vanguard

THE Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, Saturday, vowed that it would carry out reprisal attacks on Muslims and mosques in the Niger Delta region if Boko Haram kills Christians and burn down churches in the north, as threatened by its new leader, Abu Masab el Barnaw, last Wednesday.

Spokesperson of the militant group, W O I Izon-Ebi, in a statement, said: “We want to alert Nigerians and the world that the Islamization plot has been proven by the Boko Haram new leader Abu Masab el Barnaw that their new mission is to kill all Christians and burn down all churches.”

“But, we want to warn them that we, the Niger Delta youths, in this 21st century will not accept killing of innocent Christians or burning of churches. That if they try it in the north or any part of Nigeria, we the Niger Delta youths will not see any Muslim or mosque in the Niger Delta,” it said.

Its words: “We are not against President Buhari granting the Boko Haram amnesty if their sole purpose is to own an Islamic caliphate in the north, but they should not shift it to the Niger Delta.”

“All we know and want is resource control and true federalism, if truly they believe in one Nigeria, and are working harder to build a prosperous One Nigeria, let them shift their Operation Crocodile Tears to the Fulani herdsmen and the Boko Haram that is threatening the unity and peace of Nigeria,” the group asserted.

We are all Avengers NDRC called on President Muhammadu Buhari to demonstrate that leadership as the current leader and the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, just as former President Goodluck Jonathan showed by visiting him (Buhari) to indicate that he believes in the unity of Nigeria and was not part of the planned declaration of the Niger Delta Republic.

“I’m teaching in a public school and the experience has not been bad at all” – First Class Graduate

Ogunkoya-Opeyemi1

Ogunkoya Opeyemi, 20, is a first-class Biochemistry graduate of Covenant University, but she is currently undergoing the National Youth Service Corps programme, where she was deployed in a secondary school to teach. Interestingly, Opeyemi, who had 4.70 CGPA in the 2014/2015 academic session, tells TUNDE AJAJA she is enjoying the experience. She shares more about her experience in this interview

You graduated last year, what have you been doing since then?
I’m currently undergoing my National Youth Service Corps programme. I’m teaching in a public school and the experience has not been bad at all.

It must have been a lot of work to graduate with a first class. Was it?
Earning a first class in Biochemistry wasn’t an easy task. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, commitment and sacrifices. In all, it wasn’t my efforts that counted, only God’s grace did.

Apart from God’s grace, were there other things you did differently to be better?
It was my decision from the start to put my very best into all my endeavours while in school. But there is more to success than determination. So, I ensured I attended all classes, did all assignments and committed two hours to study every day. I was always time conscious, I organised my activities and prioritised effectively. I read for minimum of two hours daily, but during tests and exams, I studied for as long as it took. Sleep was not very important to me during examinations; I only ensured that I fed well. Also, I borrowed books from the library but I preferred to read in a well-ventilated classroom, especially on top floors where I could have a view of a beautiful landscape.

Was having a first class a do-or-die affair for you?
The most important thing would be that I put in my very best in earning whatever result I had, but if I didn’t graduate with a first class, I would have been disappointed but accept it as the will of God. The motivation during my 100 level orientation programme was one of the things that fuelled my desire to graduate with a first class. Some staff and senior students motivated us and that was helpful. So, right from my first semester in school, I made up my mind to graduate with a first class, coupled with the huge financial investments my parents put into my education. I wanted to justify their investment, and I felt that would be the least way to appreciate their sacrifices. I mean it’s only fair to make our parents feel good and put smiles on their faces for their unalloyed support. In return, they threw a graduation party for me and I got several cash gifts from other family members and friends. Meanwhile, I had the most amazing lecturers. They were bright and profound in their various fields. Their primary concern was to impart students with knowledge and to raise global leaders. They were not only lecturers but also parent figures, so they helped too. There are many factors that influence success in academics. Apart from hard work, fantastic lecturers, people need to have passion for what they do, because passion is what drives one to success. Choosing a course you have interest in matters.

What attracted you to Biochemistry?
As a child, I wanted to be a space explorer, but I later found Biochemistry interesting, being a very broad field in natural sciences. I chose to study Biochemistry because of my interest in natural systems and the diverse fields in which the principles of Biochemistry can be applied. Being a very broad course, it required constant reading, ability to understand complex systems, critical reasoning and research skills. Although these skills are required to successfully study the course, anyone lacking in any of them will definitely have the skills imparted by the end of the programme. It’s also a course that has a lot to do with practicals and I enjoyed the practical classes, especially those pertaining to molecular biology, because some things that people see as abstract are simplified and you witness these things yourself during practicals. The knowledge you get from that enhances your understanding of the subject because you have seen things for yourself. The only occasions I got tired of practicals were the times I had to work till about 3am, and that was during my final year project. However, I’m particularly interested in environmental toxicology and the effect of toxic pollutants on human health.

Why the interest in that aspect?
I had observed with serious concern the impact of pollution in the world right now, and one very important aspect of that is climate change. I’m really interested in the effect of human pollution on the climate and the environment, especially in Nigeria; talking about the effect of toxins on human health, in terms of air pollution, water pollution and land pollution. The harmful effect of these things on humans can be severe, and I think we should pay attention to it. So, I’ll do a study on it.

What are the most common human activities that aggravate these issues?
We have issues of oil spillage, burning of fossil fuel, improper sewage treatment, and many others. Looking at Lagos as an example, some industries channel their effluents into the lagoon, which pollutes the water. That affects people in areas like Makoko, Oko Baba and other areas, in terms of the quality of the water, the survival of aquatic animals and even access to healthy food. It’s those effects that I want to work on, so that people’s lives can be better protected. I’m passionate about this and God will help me to see it through.

Did you participate in any competition or receive any award as an undergraduate?
I participated in the 2015 campus competition hosted by Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In my first semester in 400 level, I got an award from my department as the best student in Biochemistry. I started having first class since my first semester in 100 level and it was just five of us in the department. I was the second highest in the class.

Do you have role models?
Yes. My role models are Condoleezza Rice, Justice Jumoke Pedro and my lovely mum, Mrs. A. A. Ogunkoya.

Is your performance traceable to how you fared in your primary and secondary schools?
In primary school, I recall taking the first position several times. If I wasn’t the first, I was always one of the top five in my class. I also recall receiving awards of excellence in sciences twice in the primary school. My performance in the secondary school was equally outstanding. There was a system in my secondary school that selected the top 50 students in the set into a class (special class). I maintained the special class all through my stay in school. I would also like to add that I got all A’s in the JSS3 examination organised by the National Examination Council. I had similar performance when I sat for the Senior School Certificate Examination. I took extra tutorial classes and sleepless nights and all glory to God, it was a success. I made all my papers in one sitting with three A’s, three B2’s, two B3’s and one C4. I scored 260 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, which was good but not quite what I expected.

What were you expecting?
My target was to score like 320, but I thank God for what I had. That is why it is good to set a high standard for yourself so that even if you don’t meet up, you would still be above average. It took extensive study to succeed in those exams, which shows that success cannot be accidental. You work your way to it and that was what I did. So, the result is expected. Even if you are intellectually gifted, nothing manifests without a push. And that required push is hard work.

During exams, were there times you went into secluded places?
Yes, there were times I went to secluded places like classes on the topmost floor of very distant college buildings where most people would be too lazy to go. I remember, once I locked myself in a deserted common room so no one would interrupt my reading.

What were your memorable moments while in school?
I remember a time when the sole of my heeled shoe pulled out on my way to Faith Tabernacle on a Sunday morning. I had to walk on bare feet despite my gorgeous dressing. It was quite embarrassing. However, I enjoyed the moments I spent with my friends.

Were you a sociable student or you were always reading when others had gone to have fun?
I wasn’t the sociable butterfly but I had a circle of close friends. I had many acquaintances too. I loved meeting new people, hanging out and doing fun things with my friends. At my leisure, I watched movies, read my anthropology books and spent time hanging out with friends. I spent part of my money on fashion, especially on weaves, clothes and wristwatches, though I saved some part of the money.

Is there anything you wish you had done as a student that you could not do?
I wish I had applied for scholarships to fund my university education but I was never exposed to such opportunities.

Would you want to work based on what you learnt in school or you have interest in other things?
Yes, I would definitely work with my degree in Biochemistry. However, to achieve my career goals, I would need an advanced degree in the environmental sciences but my degree in Biochemistry is the perfect springboard in launching me into a career as an environmental toxicologist and consultant. It will be fulfilling to proffer practical solutions to pressing environmental challenges facing the world today. I’m not limited to any company or organisation, I would like to work in any organisation where I would be relevant in effecting these positive changes.

What should students do to be excellent in the higher institution?
Whatever the situation you find yourself, put in your best, give thanks to God and your reward will surely come. Always remember, you are the architect of your destiny. Also worthy of note is that students should know what time is best for them to read. That works and helps to be in charge of your schedule.

“Little Kids Get Excited Because Of My Boobs” – Annette Cookey

annette cookey

Annette Cookey came to limelight during the MTN Project Fame West Africa, when she emerged the 3rd runner-up in the 2008 edition of the contest.

The singer who started singing when she was 10 doesn’t believe that sexuality can sell music. However, she has five intimidating body parts that she has named.

Annette said “I am sure a lot of people will be wondering what has been happening to me since then. I am not going to say I am a s*x symbol but for some reasons, I often get sexually harassed and that really affected me as a person. It has also affected my career in music because I don’t trust anyone anymore. They will tell you that they want to work with you because you’re so talented, and at the same time, they will want sexual favours from you, and I don’t think that is proper.”

She added “Though, they say s*x sells, but I do not believe in that. I believe people should be modest in whatever they do. And when I refer to the past, people will say that things have changed. At least, I have watched Mary J. Blige a couple of times, and I can’t remember seeing her perform naked, or half naked, and she is not doing bad for herself. I don’t think you have to be naked to sell.

She names five intimidating things about her “My eyes, boobs, voice and my stature. I was standing somewhere recently, and a guy saw my boobs; he had to take some steps backwards and fixed his gaze on my boobs; he didn’t turn. I now asked him what he was doing but he pretended he was not doing anything. Even little children are affected by my boobs. The other day at the Cinemas, some kids offered to buy me lunch because of that. So I get that a lot.

Do You Know Why There Are Always Small Stones Alongside Railway Tracks? – Find Out

train

Traveling in a train is an amazing experience in itself. You get to witness the stunning vistas of nature, sprawling fields, cities teeming with people, or endless stretches of land with no sign of any life whatsoever.

kOne more thing that you almost always see throughout your train-journey are those small stones lying alongside the track on which your train races?

Have you ever given any thought as to why there are almost always stones alongside a railway track?

Track Ballast
To start with, the stones that you see lying close to the railway tracks are collectively called track ballast. It basically forms the trackbed on which the railway sleepers are kept. Track ballast is packed between the sleepers, in the areas below, and on the sides of railway tracks. I can already hear the question beginning to form in your head; what’s a sleeper?

A railway sleeper is a rectangular support that is usually kept perpendicular to the tracks. Sleepers are known by a few other names too, like a railroad tie or a cross-tie. These are usually made of wood or pre-stressed concrete, although the latter is more widely used today. The function of railway sleepers is to hold the rails upright and properly spaced.

Why Specifically Those Stones?

It’s not like the construction crews put just any stone they find around the tracks. That wouldn’t do the trick. For instance, if you put smooth, round pebbles in the ballast, then they might roll or slide over each other when a train passes over the tracks; therefore, they would fail at their main job – providing solidarity to the tracks. Given that fact, you need stones of a specific type that won’t move around too much, except by kids chucking stones near the tracks, of course!

In order to guarantee that the stones stay in place, they use sharp and edged stones in the ballast. Interesting, huh?

Is That All Track Ballast Does?
In fact, the track ballast serves a number of purposes. First of all, it makes sure that tracks stay in place when super-heavy trains roll by on them. It also plays an instrumental role in keeping any vegetation in check that might grow around the tracks (and make the ground beneath the tracks weaker). Another important aspect of track ballast is that it seals out any water that may be around the tracks to actually reach the tracks on a regular basis. That doesn’t mean the ballast completely insulates the tracks from water, which would be impossible, but it does facilitate water drainage around and beneath the tracks so that water doesn’t stay near the tracks and compromise the solidarity of the ground.

A novel technique to reduce vibrations
The excessive use of railway lines for transportation poses a threat to the buildings in the areas near the tracks due to the immense vibrations the tracks experience when a high speed locomotive moves over them. Also, the loud noise that is produced when a train moves rapidly also the tracks is also a nuisance to the surrounding areas.

In order to minimize these vibrations, a fairly simple clamping technique is employed using a dynamic vibration absorber. It consists of EPDM or Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer rubber because of its high resistance to heat, water and other mechanical strains. As a result, the vibrations are reduced to a great extent and the noise is also diminished to a bare minimum.

What we’re trying to say should be clear… Picking up stones from around the tracks on a pleasant, sunny day and chucking them out into the nearby forest is not an ideal way to release your stress!

Huh?! Wife And Girlfriend Of Dead Man Run Side-by-side Obituaries For Him. (Photo)

Leroy black obituary

A dead man from New Jersey was so loved by those he left behind that he had two competing obituaries after his death last Tuesday — one from his wife and another from his girlfriend.

Leroy B. Black, of Egg Harbor Township, died Tuesday from lung cancer due to fiberglass exposure. He was 55.

In the two obituaries announcing his funeral arrangements, on the top one, Black is survived by his ‘loving wife, Bearetta Harrison Black.’

In the next one, he is survived by his ‘long-time girlfriend, Princess Hall.’ without the name of his wife, Bearetta.

An employee at Greenidge Funeral Home said there were two obituaries because ‘the wife wanted it one way, and the girlfriend wanted it another way,‘ Philly Voice reported.

The employee said everybody knew the two obituaries were happening.’ The obituaries didn’t even agree on what to call Leroy.

On the wife’s version, he goes by the middle name ‘Bill.’ The second lists him by his nickname ‘Blast.’

Black was a fiberglass technician at South Shore Contractors and Ocean City water Park. He is also survived by his son Jazz Black.

Federal Governemnt Subsidies Pilgrims With N7.9bn.

Pilgrims

The Federal Government is to subsidise this year’s Hajj pilgrims with a maximum of N7.9 billion (N7,944,508,970) as against N2. 4 billion (N2,442,000,000) of the previous year, representing a growth of 225.3 per cent.

Vanguard’s investigations revealed that with total Hajj pilgrims of 65,167 for the year 2016 as published by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and a maximum of $1000.00 per pilgrim, the total foreign exchange entitled to the pilgrims amounted to sixty five million, one hundred and sixty seven thousand dollars ($65,167,000).

Therefore, when $ 65,167,000 is multiplied with the difference between the Foreign Exchange, (Forex) market (N318.9 per dollar ) and the concessionary exchange rate of ( N197 per dollar), that is N121.91 per dollar, it would amount to N7.9 billion (N7,944,508,970) , while with a minimum of $750 per dollar for each pilgrim, it would amount to N5.9 billion ( N5, 958,381,727).

Further findings on the 2016 pilgrims for the top ten states showed that Kano state with total pilgrims of 5,808 had the highest entitlement with subsidy of N708,053 million followed by Kaduna state with 5,649 pilgrims with subsidy of N688.6 million.

They are to purchase a minimum of $750.00 and a maximum of $ 1,000.00 as Purchase of Pilgrims Travelling Allowance, PTA. The CBN in a circular issued on Thursday to all Authorised Dealers and General public, sistated that the Federal Government has approved that intending pilgrims are to be sold the PTA at a concessionary exchange rate of N197.00 to the US dollar.

According to the circular:

“No commission shall be charged by the banks for the sale of PTA to the intending pilgrims; The CBN shall sale the PTA to the designated banks in Lagos and Abuja and the accounts of the respective banks shall be debited as soon as the funds are disbursed.”

Team USA Basketball Players Accidentally Visit Brothel In Rio After Mistaking It For A Spa.

USA basketball team

Some Teammates from the USA basketball team, ended up in a brothel in Rio, Brazil – claiming that they mistook it for a spa.

TMZ reports that the basketball players numbering about 6, went out on the town Wednesday night in Rio and strolled into Termas Monte Carlo … which Rolling Stone called “one of the high end brothels in Rio.“.

It has been learnt that, when you call the place, they’ll tell you it’s a spa that plays music … and it’s just for male customers.

A source close to the team said the players got the standard line, so they assumed it was kosher. The source said, “They realized it wasn’t the right place for them and immediately left.”

While inside, the players were only seen hanging at the bar. Multiple sources say they bought booze … nothing more.

“How A 15-Year-Old Girl Humbled Me On Facebook”

Article culled…

It all started with facebook suggestions.

I have been off the dating scene for a while so you’d understand what happens to a Nigerian guy after more than a month of no sex. I’ve had Intimate dreams and near wanking experiences but ever since I pledged to swear off the vaselines and joy soaps of the world, wanking had become a no no.

But I was not prepared for what I saw yesterday morning on Facebook. Facebook quickly threw up a suggestion, asking me to add this girl as friend. The thumbnail I saw quickly attracted me and I diligently clicked. Her profile opened quickly and I went straight to her photos. The first picture I saw stunned me.

Now, it was not that she was so beautiful. She was just pretty. But a combination of sexual hunger and her sensually provocative attire and posing dealt with me instantly. For such a young Nigerian girl, she was fully formed. She was exactly the kind of woman I’d go for. She had full hips, a sizable backside and big, obviously firm breasts. To top it off, she wore skin tight bum shorts and a body hugging top that made me instantly dream of all night romps between the sheets. My 28 year old joystick instantly shot up.

Now before you criticize, understand that at that point I didn’t know her age. Sure, she had a low cut and looked young, but I’ve dated many adults on low cut that could pass for 18. I had guessed that she would not be less than 18.

I instantly added her. Within minutes she accepted and I wasted no time to visit her message center. I said hello. She replied and the conversation began. My heart was racing, my joystick was throbbing and I had an insane urge to grab any soap, even Dettol soap or Tetmosol, and self-service off my frustrations. Thankfully I resisted the urge.

After brief niceties, I wasted no time asking about her. She politely answered my questions, told me she was about to enter SS3. That was when the alarm bells started ringing but I was already trapped. I asked her age but she declined, saying she didn’t feel comfortable discussing that. That was when I went direct. I told her the reason I wanted to know her age was because I had feelings for her and wanted to be sure she was not a teenager. She asked me what feelings.

I told her that I wanted to be close to her, that I wanted us to meet and become instant lovers. That I was seriously attracted to her and needed her so bad that I could not control myself for a minute. All these while, my hard, throbbing joystick had not cooled down. The girl calmly asked me my age. When I told her, she replied me that I was too old for her. I almost screamed, with all these assets? I again asked her age and her reply shocked me.

She said she was 15 years old! 15 years old and you look like a woman?! I stopped chatting for ten minutes to ponder what I had just learned and what I was feeling. In all my life, I had never dated someone less than 19 years old, even while I was a teenager, I had always been with the older girls. I ridiculed the guys that chased after teenagers, called them weak and unmanly. But now i felt trapped. The hardness of my dick refused to go down. What I felt for this 15 year old Nigerian girl was so strong that I couldn’t escape it. At that moment, I understood that even at the risk of statutory rape, I would gladly make love to this girl over and over if I met her. At that moment I became even more determined to be her lover.

I went back to facebook chat and told her so. I told that I had never felt for someone I had not seen the way I felt for her. While reminding myself that I couldn’t be worse than R Kelly, I wrote a love epistle that was guaranteed to win the heart of any teenager. The waiting began. It took her hours to respond. While I waited I fantasized and fantasized until I lost all control and pulled my boxers. I rushed to the bathroom. There was a quick explosion of joy seconds later. It felt so good for once and I was finally relieved.

When I returned to my phone, a series of messages were waiting for me. The girl politely told me that I was too old to be running after teenagers. That I should date adults and see her as a kid sister. That she had no interest in dating adults and for now, wanted to concentrate on her education. That she was happy to be my facebook friend but I should remove all thoughts of love making from my head. She advised me to get married and build a home with a woman instead of lusting after girls. Then she apologized if I felt insulted.

I had no reply for that. I read it over and over. That was when the hunger in me died down. I realized that what she said was true; I had no business developing a sexual interest in teenagers. Teenagers should be encouraged to be serious with their education not lured into sexual affairs. And it’s an adult’s duty to control himself, however tempted. A real man doesn’t lust after girls; a real man goes after women.

I thanked the girl quickly and left the chat in shame. But I would never forget her lesson. In one day, this girl had taught me to be a better person and I’d never forget her.

EFCC Seizes N872m Houses From Ex-Minister And His Son. (Photo)

efcc

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly seized four houses worth N872 million from a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Sen. Bala Mohammed, and his son, Shamsudeen Bala.

The ex-minister is said to be under investigation on alleged fictitious contracts of about N1billion, allocation of 12 choice plots worth billions of naira and 37 other commercial plots of land worth about N8 billion to his suspected front named Tariq Hammoud as well as the controversial N1 trillion Abuja land swap.

More than 16 companies linked with fictitious contracts awarded by Bala had been under surveillance and their owners grilled by EFCC.

The anti-graft agency quizzed Shamsudeen, Hammoud and top directors of the Federal Capital Territory administration, including that of Treasury, Ibrahim Bomoi; Land, Babayo Mainasara, and Abuja Geographical Information Service (AGIS), Ms Jamila Tangaza.

Tangaza, who had been in detention in the past one week, was battling for bail as at press time. She has, however, been linked to N800 million questionable contracts to her personal firm apart from benefiting from plots of land from the ex-minister.

According to investigations, the ongoing probe of the ex-minister followed petitions against him, including complaints pending since 2013.

It was gathered that following preliminary findings, EFCC obtained an interim forfeiture order to confiscate a N650 million house at 1 and 3, Mariam Mukhtar Street, Asokoro.

The same forfeiture order was secured to seize the ex-minister’s son three duplexes costing about N222 million in the Apo Area of
Abuja.

A top source in EFCC, who spoke in confidence, said:

“We are probing the immediate past Minister of FCT on many allegations against him, including award of N1 billion fictitious contracts; abuse of office by allocating 12 choice plots to his son and 37 other commercial plots worth about N8 billion to Hammoud, who is suspected to be his front; land swap, among others.
“Some of the petitions against Bala Mohammed had been pending since 2013. Initial findings showed that the ex-minister used fictitious companies to award contracts worth N1 billion in FCT. In one instance, a man with three companies was allowed to bid for one slot.
“About 16 companies used for fictitious contracts are under investigation because they did not supply items credited to them.

“We have also uncovered how Bala allocated plots of land to his friends, business partners. For examples, he allocated 12 plots of land to his son, Shamsudeen, and 37 commercial plots of land to his business front called Tariq Hammoud.
“Some of those quizzed so far confessed that Bala used unconventional methods in raking illicit funds and laundering same. Each time the ex-minister allocated a plot of land, he would find out the market value and ask you to pay half of the amount to him in cash.
“For instance if a plot of land was N2 billion, Bala would ask for N1 billion cash from the prospective buyer. He was smart in collecting cash.

“But the EFCC has traced allocation of 37 commercial plots to Hammoud and how N8billion was made from it. In fact, we saw a proposal by Tariq Hammoud to sell some of the plots.
“So far, our operatives have arrested, detained and quizzed Shamsudeen. He is presently on administrative bail. We have also interrogated Hammoud.”

Responding to a question, the source said:

“Based on substantial findings, we approached the court to obtain an interim forfeiture order to seize a N650million from the ex-FCT Minister.
“What happened was that the former minister allocated some plots of land to Aso Savings and they bought the N650 million house for him at Nos. 1 and 3, Mariam Mukhtar Street, Asokoro District.

“The EFCC has confiscated three duplexes totalling N222million which were acquired by the ex-minister’s son.

On the fate of the ex-minister, the source said:

“We are investigating him, we are yet to invite him for questioning. Certainly, we are closing in on him.”

The source added that EFCC had grilled top directors of the FCT administration. “As for Ms Jamila Tangaza, we arrested and detained her because she was connected with the land scam and abuse of office.

“The ex-minister asked her to resign her appointment with BBC and appointed her as a Senior Special Assistant on Media and Information. But Bala allocated some plots of land to her to sell in order to acquire a mansion in Asokoro District too. Her house was allegedly worth N158million.
“Also, Jamila allegedly abused her office by awarding N800million contracts to her company which is called Songbird Multimedia.
“Her case was interesting. When she registered the company with the Corporate Affairs Commission, she used a fictitious name as the CEO of the company but she is the sole signatory to the company’s account and her phone number is the point of contact with the firm.

“We have sent her signature on CAC document and other specimen signatures collected from her to a forensic laboratory. Following a court order, we detained her in the past few days but as at Friday, she was pleading that we should grant her bail. We are looking into her request.”

The top source denied insinuations that the ex-BBC correspondent was handcuffed when she was taken to her office for a search.

The source added:

“You can verify from her what transpired. From custody in EFCC, we went with her to her office to recover some documents. We used the EFCC bus but along the way, she begged us to park the bus away from the vicinity of AGIS where she is a director. She did not want her staff and others to notice that she was brought to the office by EFCC team.
“We obliged her request by parking outside AGIS. We also didn’t allow policemen in uniform to follow her to the office. We assigned plain-clothe operatives and even asked her if she wanted the only lady in our team to follow her so that Jamila can blend with the crowd in AGIS without anyone suspecting anything.

“She said all plain clothe operatives can follow her. We did not put her in handcuffs. This is the extent we went based on her request to protect her reputation and integrity. The story of Jamila being handcuffed was rubbish.”
