Tech company, Verizon, announced on Monday that it’s buying Yahoo’s core internet business for $4.83 billion in cash.
The deal, which was reached over the weekend, unites two titans of the early internet, AOL and Yahoo, under the umbrella of one of the nation’s largest telecommunications companies.
Verizon bought AOL for $4.4 billion last year. Verizon plans to keep most of Yahoo’s current products, including its still popular email service, and invest in them to make them stronger.
However, Verizon has not yet decided what it wants to do in search, an area where Yahoo has waged a losing fight against Google for a decade.
In 2008, Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) was willing to pay more than $45 billion for Yahoo, an offer that was rebuffed by cofounder Jerry Yang.
First lady of the United States, Michelle Obama gave a very powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday showing her support for Hilary Clinton.
Her amazing speech of course, not only got her a striking standing ovation, but also got her praises from her husband, the president of the United States.
Her speech below:
“In this election, and every election, it is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four to eight years of their lives, and I am here tonight because
in this election there is only one person I trust with that responsibility, only one person who I believe is truly qualified to be president of the United States, and that is our friend Hillary Clinton,” Obama said.
She also said:
“What I admire most about Hillary is that she never buckles under pressure, she never takes the easy way out, and Hillary Clinton has never quit on anything in their life. And when I think about the type of president I want for my girls and all our children, that’s what I want. I want someone with the proven strength to persevere, someone who knows this job and takes it seriously, someone who knows that the issues the president faces is not black and white and cannot be boiled down to 140 characters.”
Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and her husband Matthew Ekeinde have been married 20 years and just like she has a few times in the past the actress is serving relationship goals with her advise on how her and her hubby have made it work for two decades.
Speaking with Naij, she revealed that the key to having a successful marriage is being friends as that will see one through the hard times.
She also spoke about beauty and what it means to her, saying that a confident woman who knows her self worth is beautiful.
Read excerpts of the interview below:
You recently celebrated 20 years wedding anniversary, how does it feel being married for 20 years in the entertainment industry?
I am just thankful. I am married to my friend, my destiny supporter. There is no relationship without its challenges. 20 years and some people said OMG you guys must be without stress.
I just want people to know that if you are determined to do it in life and you are determined to make it you will make it. You have troubles generally in life with your parents, with your siblings so it’s a normal thing.
Don’t use every opportunity of a quarrel in a relationship or with your spouse to justify the fact that everybody says marriage is hard. It is not any harder I think than any other relationship we have in life with your business partners or with your siblings.
I understand that there are some relationships that have more challenges. If there is any form of abuse involved I think they should find their way out quickly but if there is no abuse or any other thing you can hang in. Leaving that I have had good times with my spouse, just be friends that’s what matters must.
What is your definition of beauty and how does it reflect in a woman?
I think for women beauty is in confidence. If you are a confident woman and understand your self-worth I think you are beautiful. And that’s why sometimes you see some girls that you think visually they are not aesthetically beautiful but any time they walk into a room everybody turn it because of her confidence.
So beauty to a woman and even men is knowing yourself well, understanding your body and working with what you have. Most women don’t have everything even I don’t have everything but there are some things that you have.
Ghandour Cosmetics is all about hair and you now for a woman your face is the first thing someone sees. Your face is your introduction and your hair is the crown of the face.
But you are not growing any younger?
Neither are you.
She continues,
Well I am 38 years old and I am not scared of growing old. But even if I was 51 that is not the point even small children now have grey hairs. The point is in life I think we should all embrace who we are. I think if people are sufficient in life they feel like you are achieving you won’t even be afraid of age. But when you look back in life and you think have not achieved anything you will feel like time is running by then you will be afraid of aging. But if you are contented in life and know that all fingers are not equal and you are where you are meant to be because you could actually be six feet below. That you are alive and healthy in itself is enough reason to celebrate.
The beautiful actress was fired shots after she wore quite a revealing dress to Church last Sunday but it seems she is unbothered as she is seen doing it yet again, but this time, not to Church.
Stunning mother of two, Oge Okoye, shows us her endowment as she rocks skimpy shorts and a baring cleavage tee – she wears a smile like that of a teenager… you can barely tell she’s had two kids.
African Queen crooner, 2Face Idiba has declared himself, “the world’s worst hopeless romantic man’.
The super star and father of 7 lovely kids, in a chat with Tosin Odunfa of EbonyLife TV, talked about growing up in Makurdi, his coronation, his life with Annie Idibia and more.
When asked about how much of a charming husband he is, he told Tosin, “I am the world’s worst hopeless romantic. We just live, we they try.”
Well, with the way he is always spotted with his wife getting at cozy at events, it seems the singer is indeed a romantic fellow.
He also talked opened up on his coronation as the ‘Tafidan Kudendan’ of Kaduna State
According to him, “The were impressed by my Vote Not Fight campaign during the elections. After that he was like he’s going to honour this dude with a title. I thought it was a joke at first until letter came in, official invitation came in. Even when I went for the coronation, I thought it was going to be a recognition but lo and behold, it was actually a title.”
Yayyy!!! Nigeria’s famous and favourite twin music sensation are back once again! He who is outspoken between the duo – I speak of Peter, shared the announcement, also revealing that their elder brother, Jude Okoye is back as the group’s manager.
What he wrote below:
“My dear fans, P-Square is back. Ours is a journey that started from our mother’s womb. It was a journey that started from Primary School, continued to St. Murumba College, to when we were in University in Abuja. It was a journey in which we shared childhood memories and grown-up dreams. We are back because brothers do not let each other wander in the dark alone. We are back because we have tried the lonely road and it was not the same. I want to take responsibility for what has happened and sincerely apologise to you our fans. For supporting us throughout this journey we owed you so much more than what you have had to endure and I apologise for that. We are embarking now on a new journey with exciting new management (Jude Okoye), new music and new ideas. We cannot thank you enough for all your prayers and support throughout this difficult period. Maya Angelou once said that brotherhood is a condition that people have to work at. We will continue to work on that and you can be prepared to be blown away by this new phase of P-Square. God bless you all and be assured that you have not seen anything yet! Peter Okoye P-Square”
She’s one of the very few actresses who I can boldly say wearing make-up fits them perfectly…
Rita Dominic is as beautiful as can be in these new stunning make-over photos – the actress who was a year older few weeks ago looks like she can never go wrong in purple as she wears a bright smile in one of the photos.
The Federal government just might have curbed its plan to build a massive film village in Kano State, following social media outcry and opposition from Muslim clerics.
More than N3billion ($10m; £7.6m) was budgeted for the project as part of the government’s efforts to improve the Hausa language film industry known as Kannywood, BBC reports.
The government argued the village would create thousands of job opportunities and promote cultural activities. But Muslims clerics argued it would promote immorality and people on social media also called on the government to stop the plan.
An aide to President Buhari told local media that the president has listened to the people’s concerns.
The actress looks like a doll – like, literally, take a close look at the photo again and tell me she doesn’t look like those dolls they use in showcasing clothes in fashion houses… No offense though, I’m just being literal here.
But of course, the all beautiful Annie Idibia still looks on fleek as she embraces her skin colour… I’d like to have a set of teeth like hers… anyone know the secret?
After abducting a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ikorodu on Sunday just before the start of service for the day, the abductors are allegedly asking for N100 million in ransom for the release of the cleric.
According to a relative of the pastor who spoke to Punch newspaper, the kidnappers have gotten in touch and requested the lump sum for his freedom.
“Those men have called. They are asking for N100 million. That is a big worry. The pastor was cleaning the chairs on Sunday with a few members when the men came in. But God is in control,” she said.
The residents of the area claimed that there have been a salvo of kidnapping for ransom in the area in recent times.
The suspected perpetrators of these abductions are believed to be Niger Delta militants who are deep into the creeks of Ikorodu.
One of the residents, Jacob also spoke to Punch.
He said,
“An immigration officer was kidnapped in our area. After the officer was released, they picked him again. They also picked a hotelier. The hotelier has not been released because his family members have yet to pay the N10m ransom the abductors demanded.
“On another occasion, they abducted twin brothers. The twins’ father was the target of the hoodlums because he worked in a big company in the Somolu area of Lagos. But since he was not at home, they abducted his 13-year-old twins. That was last Monday. They were, however, released on Wednesday after the man paid N20,000.
“It was a relation of the kidnappers who took the money to them in the creeks. That was how the victims were freed.”
Also, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had directed the case be transferred to SARS.
She said, “The CP has directed that the case be transferred to SARS to give it the attention it deserves.”
Mrs. Mary Attah, a 28 year-old housewife, has been sentenced to death by hanging for a grievous crime.
She was sentenced to death by a Delta State High Court, sitting in Effurun, for stabbing her husband, Pastor Darlington Attah, with a kitchen knife and setting him ablaze.
She was pronounced guilty on the one-count charge proffered against her by Justice E.I. Oritsejafor.
According to The News, the Prosecution Counsel, Patrick Mekako Esq, told the Court that the accused who was married the deceased, with four children, had on 6 July, 2012 at Effurun attacked her husband with a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the neck as a result of an alleged phone call from the husband’s lover.
He further told the Court that the accused was infuriated by the telephone call at a time they were having a ‘nice time’ which prompted her to rush to the kitchen, collected the knife and armed herself with grounded pepper which she rubbed on her husband’s face to immobilize him before stabbing him in the neck.
Not satisfied, the convict doused the husband who was already weak as a result of excessive bleeding with fuel and set him ablaze and he later died at the Warri Central Hospital where he was rushed to.
The offence is punishable by death under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C21, Volume 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.
Delivering the death sentence on the convict, Justice Oritsjafor, held that the Prosecution was able to prove beyond all reasonable doubt the essential ingredients of the offence of murder against the accused person.
“I must also add that the evidence before this Court do not and cannot support the plea of self defence in favour of the accused person. I agree with the learned Assistant Director for the Prosecution that there is just no possible defence to avail the accused person when she stabbed her deceased husband in the neck with a knife and thereafter doused him with fuel before she struck the match on him was to kill the deceased or do him grievous bodily harm. The law is trite that a man intends the natural consequences of his act.
“From the evidence before this Court and in particular the extrajudicial statement of the accused person, Exhibit A and the evidence of PW1 and PW2 which corroborates and is consistent with the facts contained in the said extrajudicial statement Exhibit A, I hold that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused person murdered her deceased husband on or about the 6th day of July, 2012, and I find the accused person guilty of the murder of Darlington Attah as charged. Accused person is accordingly, hereby convicted of the offence of murder. The sentence of this Court upon you, Mary Attah is death by hanging by the neck till you be dead and may the Lord have mercy on your soul,” Justice Oritsejafor held.
A marriage counselor claims ladies who cut their hair have inferiority complex.
According to George Lutterodt a Ghanaian marriage counselor, any single lady who cuts her hair has inferiority complex and is suffering from poverty mentality.
Speaking on the Efisem radio show in Accra’s Kasapa FM, Lutterodt insisted that a woman’s hairstyle doesn’t necessarily reflect the person’s fashion sense.
He said the hairstyle shows the lady’s frustrations at still remaining unmarried even after several years.
Here’s what he also said:
“Look, men are attracted by what they see and not your character. You cut your hair and you reduce to a level of a JHS girl and when young boys propose love to you, then you blame the devil for that. Ask yourself what image you are carrying.”

Some, if not most Nigerian men are guilty of using the silliest lines when trying to ask a girl out.
They’ve been accused of boasting about their wealth, jobs or travelling experiences to women because they think it’s the easiest way to scoring a relationship or a one night stand. Ladies, have you ever been in a situation where he went on and on about that trip to Dubai where he got to watch the Formula One championship and even took a selfie with Lewis Hamilton?
Well, here are four silly things Naija men say when trying to ask a girl out:
1.) “Baby, I can give you whatever you need”
Nigerian men are quick to use their wealth to seduce women. Boasting about how much they’re worth or have, gives them confidence to approach any woman/girl they find attractive. It’s silly but sometimes, it works!
Many residents were left in deep shock as Christ Apostolic Church members located in Yaba, Lagos State engaged each other in a violent fight inside the church premises on Sunday.

It’s been claimed that Turkish troops who were imprisoned after the failed military coup are being raped, starved and left without water for days.
Amnesty International has called for immediate access to prisoners after the coup a week ago.
Amnesty says it has ‘credible evidence’ Turkish police are holding detainees in stress positions for up to 48 hours, denying them food, water and medical treatment and in the worst cases some have been subjected to severe beatings and torture, including rape.
John Dalhuisen, Amnesty International’s Europe director, said:
“Reports of abuse including beatings and rape in detention are extremely alarming, especially given the scale of detentions that we have seen in the past week.
“The grim details that we have documented are just a snapshot of the abuses that might be happening in places of detention.”
“Despite chilling images and videos of torture that have been widely broadcast across the country, the government has remained conspicuously silent on the abuse. “It is absolutely imperative that the Turkish authorities halt these abhorrent practices and allow international monitors to visit all these detainees in the places they are being held.”
Amnesty spoke to lawyers, doctors and a person on duty in a detention facility about the conditions in which detainees were being held.
They heard alarming accounts of torture and other ill-treatment of detainees, particularly at the Ankara Police Headquarters sports hall, Ankara Başkent sports hall and the riding club stables there.
Two lawyers in Ankara working on behalf of detainees told Amnesty International that detainees said they witnessed senior military officers in detention being raped with a truncheon or finger by police officers.
A person on duty at the Ankara Police Headquarters sports hall saw a detainee with severe wounds consistent with having been beaten, including a large swelling on his head.
The detainee could not stand up or focus his eyes and he eventually lost consciousness.
Supreme Mavin Dynasty‘s boss, Don Jazzy, has been out of the country for a while now and who knows what he may have been cooking up.
The Producer is seen here with foreign rapper, T.I, and we can only but speculate that he might be cooking something up with him… cause when two moguls come together, they have a mogul talk! Hehe…
Bunmi of Vanguard was sent this relationship puzzle to solve by a reader named Uju who is currently running out of ideas. Read her letter below:
Dear Bunmi,
I know I get on well with my boyfriend’s family. We’ve been an item for a few years now, but at a recent party, his dad tried to kiss me after giving me a playful smack on the bum. We’d all had too much to drink but I told my boyfriend about it right away. In the morning, I didn’t make an issue of it as it looked as if both father and son had forgotten all about the incident.
Thinking it was a one-off, I put it all behind me but sometime later, he made another pass at me. This time, we were both sober and I was indignant.
He apologized and promised it would never happen again. I was stunned by his behaviour to say the least. I know I should have mentioned it to my boyfriend but I was too shocked to think straight. How should I handle this?
Mavins Record artiste, Reekado Banks, has said he is in no competition with his fellow acts on the label as they are only trying to impress themselves and label boss, Don Jazzy.
Reekado Banks while reacting to a statement that he is the leading act on the label, told HF Tv, he doesn’t see it that way.
In his own words: “I don’t think I am leading anything (Laughing). Don Jazzy is still leading the label, I don’t see it as anyone is leading . Nobody sees it like anybody is leading, Everybody sees it like everybody is working together to make the label number one. Everybody sees it like they are trying to make Don Jazzy proud, they are trying to make themselves proud. So yeah! It is not particularly anybody leading anything.”
On why he hasn’t been featuring other acts on his songs, Reekado Banks disclosed he has been trying to focus on his music and selling it without the help of other artistes.
In his own words: “For now, I am trying to sell my songs. I’m trying to make a name for myself, by myself. Definitely, probably the next single and the one after this next single will feature someone. So much music.”
On his album: “Definitely the album by mid-year. Errm… I am excited.. In June/July.”
One month after he claimed he has been shut out by Aso Rock and President Buhari doesn’t pick his calls any longer, controversial Enugu-based Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, on Sunday, during his homily at Adoration Ministry, Emene, Enugu, slammed former President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of being the reason behind the current economic woes in the country.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Maximus Ugwuoke, he would not regret the 2015 change prophesy despite the current sufferings Nigerians are experiencing. He said:
“when these prophesies come, it must not be what people think or want; people are entitled to their views; those reactions mean nothing; the important thing is that there is nothing he had prophesized which never came to pass; the ministry does not care how people feel about his prophesies.
Some call him controversial priest; some call him fiery priest and all that, they are entitled to their opinion. The fact remains that he is a true prophet. “I will tell you something, it is for us humans to judge prophesies; he was the only person who said Buhari would win. If it were in the olden days, all those so-called men of God who castigated him would have received the wrath of God immediately. All of them should be ashamed of themselves now. “When you look at that prophesy on Jonathan, he gave it and it came to pass.
Don’t forget that two months before that prophesy, Jonathan’s wife came to the adoration ground; that is to tell you that the prophesy came from God; if after such visit, he had the courage to reveal such prophesy against them, that tells you that it is much more than what people think. Whether the prophesy is a good one or not, talking about the suffering, it has nothing to do with the prophesy.
“Before Buhari took over, the dollar was rising, there was already problem with our economy. They had oil boom but never saved; they just wasted the opportunity. Even the suffering we are talking about was part of his prophesies. I recall that on 31st of January this year, he said clearly that Nigerians should brace up for hard times, he said a lot of hardship was under way; what these suffering Nigerians are passing through are a process of change. I’m seeing a great future for Nigerians; he made it clear that there are so many holes which needed to be filled.”
Speaking on stories making the rounds that Jonathan rejected his request for an oil well, he stated that,
“these are lies from the pit of hell; these were used to water down the prophesy because people did not understand. It was even alleged that he received N5 million from Buhari; you begin to wondwer what is N5 million to Mbaka. Is it the school fees he is paying for hundreds of people? This is all propaganda.” “There was also these claims of meeting with APC chieftains before the election; he never held any such meeting; he never met Buhari before the election, there has never been any communication between them; what he has already is bigger than oil well; he is a musician and the ministry is being sustained with that”.
I guess she’s the Lady gaga of Nigeria though – wearing the craziest dresses of them all.
Truth about this one is I don’t even understand the concept, maybe I’m not fashion savvy or why does it feel like she’s wearing a deflated air bag??!!
The sultry singer stepped out last night in the dress, designed by the winner of Nigeria’s Next Top Designer winner, McStell FG to Seyi Law’s Fast and Funny!
Unknown gunmen have abducted a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) branch in Isawo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Vanguard reports.
The unnamed man of God was said to have been taken inside the church on Sunday, July 24, while preparing for workers meeting.
It was gathered that the kidnappers had entered the church pretending to be members who came to worship before pulling guns on the pastor.
One of the church members identified as Williams, said the cleric was abducted around 7a.m, explaining that the workers meeting usually holds before the main service of the day.
“He was busy preparing for the meeting, when suddenly some people came in dressed in beautiful attire and they were taken for members who had come to worship. It was not until they pulled out guns before it dawned on us that they are militants,” he said.
According to a resident, Isiaka Disu, kidnapping in the area has become rampant in the last one year, urging the Lagos State government to step up security in the axis.
A reader sent this in revealing to us how much the secondary school she graduated in charges before its ex-students collect their O’level certificate used to gain admission into higher institutions.
According to her, the school has been collecting this much from its alumni for years – she says its extortion.
Below is how she shared it:
Up here I got my SSCE Certificate, most of us who are seeking admission into higher institutions are been requested to present this certificates for verification of result.. I registered and sat for this exam and went to pick it up yesterday been 22 /7 /2016. Could you people imagine that this particular school PAULIVEN COLLEGE, LOCATED AT 8,EZIAMA STREET, TEDI TOWN OPP. OJO BARRACKS, LAGOS. is charging 30,000 from each person before they would release your Cert for you, and after much digging I found out they have been collecting this whole amount for years til date and even as of that yesterday the principal was boldly saying that soon it will be 40,000.. This is the first school I have heard that is taking such big amount, the highest amount other schools will take from you is just 5k, some schools won’t even take anything accept 500 or 1k for printing of the result.. Now my question is why do someone have to pay this much for an exam you registered and sat for? Paying 30k is just as if am buying this certificate whereas that’s not the case.. Am not saying this just because of me, it was easy for me because am working and I can afford it but how about some parents who can’t? Cos my own parents would never give out such money instead they would ask you to go to another school and re write the exam.. They asked me to pay 28k and extra 500 for the printing after I told them they could be sued because of this.. So please let’s share this message until it gets to the WAEC Board, the ministry of education or whoever that would help call this school to order, they need to be cautioned.. They are stealing people’s hard earned money and it’s not fair. I still have younger ones who has to pass through this stage and I know some of us do as well, if this issue is not tackled urgently then am sure other schools will be joining them soon in committing this evil crime.. This is extortion
President of football’s world governing body, FIFA – Gianni Infantino and the Secretary General, Fatma Samoura both touched down in Nigeria today at the nation’s capital on a two day working visit.
The prestige guests were welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, members of the NFF Board and some football club owners in the country.
Chelsea Eze who is one of the up-and-coming Nollywood actresses in a chat with Sunday Scoop, said she can act nude if the nude scene is done in a tasteful manner.
“If the opportunity comes with a good story and the money is right, I can act nude. As long as it’s tastefully done, I am okay with it,” she said.
She went further to say that she won’t be able to do a full frontal nude.
“I will not be able to do a full frontal. I am not particular about what I am showing or what I am not showing. As an actor, you should be able to go the extra mile to portray certain character. There was no way the scene where Lupita Njong was nude could have been done without her going nude. If the story warrants that I go naked, of course I will do it because I am an actor before anything.”
When reminded that Nigerian society frowns at nudity and there might be a backlash, the fair-skinned actress said if the film was worth it, she could live with the backlash. “I’m weary of the backlash because as human beings, some comments will get to me but at the end of the day I am an actor.”
She informed Sunday Scoop, that the fee for acting nude would have to be in millions and insisted that her future husband would have to understand that acting is make-believe.
