After abducting a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ikorodu on Sunday just before the start of service for the day, the abductors are allegedly asking for N100 million in ransom for the release of the cleric.

According to a relative of the pastor who spoke to Punch newspaper, the kidnappers have gotten in touch and requested the lump sum for his freedom.

“Those men have called. They are asking for N100 million. That is a big worry. The pastor was cleaning the chairs on Sunday with a few members when the men came in. But God is in control,” she said.

The residents of the area claimed that there have been a salvo of kidnapping for ransom in the area in recent times.

The suspected perpetrators of these abductions are believed to be Niger Delta militants who are deep into the creeks of Ikorodu.

One of the residents, Jacob also spoke to Punch.

He said,

“An immigration officer was kidnapped in our area. After the officer was released, they picked him again. They also picked a hotelier. The hotelier has not been released because his family members have yet to pay the N10m ransom the abductors demanded.

“On another occasion, they abducted twin brothers. The twins’ father was the target of the hoodlums because he worked in a big company in the Somolu area of Lagos. But since he was not at home, they abducted his 13-year-old twins. That was last Monday. They were, however, released on Wednesday after the man paid N20,000.

“It was a relation of the kidnappers who took the money to them in the creeks. That was how the victims were freed.”

Also, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had directed the case be transferred to SARS.

She said, “The CP has directed that the case be transferred to SARS to give it the attention it deserves.”

Mrs. Mary Attah, a 28 year-old housewife, has been sentenced to death by hanging for a grievous crime.

She was sentenced to death by a Delta State High Court, sitting in Effurun, for stabbing her husband, Pastor Darlington Attah, with a kitchen knife and setting him ablaze.

She was pronounced guilty on the one-count charge proffered against her by Justice E.I. Oritsejafor.

According to The News, the Prosecution Counsel, Patrick Mekako Esq, told the Court that the accused who was married the deceased, with four children, had on 6 July, 2012 at Effurun attacked her husband with a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the neck as a result of an alleged phone call from the husband’s lover.

He further told the Court that the accused was infuriated by the telephone call at a time they were having a ‘nice time’ which prompted her to rush to the kitchen, collected the knife and armed herself with grounded pepper which she rubbed on her husband’s face to immobilize him before stabbing him in the neck.

Not satisfied, the convict doused the husband who was already weak as a result of excessive bleeding with fuel and set him ablaze and he later died at the Warri Central Hospital where he was rushed to.

The offence is punishable by death under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C21, Volume 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

Delivering the death sentence on the convict, Justice Oritsjafor, held that the Prosecution was able to prove beyond all reasonable doubt the essential ingredients of the offence of murder against the accused person.

“I must also add that the evidence before this Court do not and cannot support the plea of self defence in favour of the accused person. I agree with the learned Assistant Director for the Prosecution that there is just no possible defence to avail the accused person when she stabbed her deceased husband in the neck with a knife and thereafter doused him with fuel before she struck the match on him was to kill the deceased or do him grievous bodily harm. The law is trite that a man intends the natural consequences of his act.

“From the evidence before this Court and in particular the extrajudicial statement of the accused person, Exhibit A and the evidence of PW1 and PW2 which corroborates and is consistent with the facts contained in the said extrajudicial statement Exhibit A, I hold that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused person murdered her deceased husband on or about the 6th day of July, 2012, and I find the accused person guilty of the murder of Darlington Attah as charged. Accused person is accordingly, hereby convicted of the offence of murder. The sentence of this Court upon you, Mary Attah is death by hanging by the neck till you be dead and may the Lord have mercy on your soul,” Justice Oritsejafor held.

EFCC has nabbed 5 Internet Fraudsters after scamming people to the tune of N16million

The EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office, has arrested five suspected undergraduate scammers, 4 from the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA) and 1 from Adekunle Ajashin University, Akungba. According to EFCC, the suspects who go about with the name “Tsunnami Gang and Young Pablo Money”, are between the ages of 20 and 23.

They allegedly swindled unsuspecting foreigners and others to the tune of N16M recently by engaging in fraudulent activities of obtaining money by false pretences through scam mails.

At the point of their arrest, EFCC operatives recovered a 2006 black Toyota Highlander, 2010 light-green Toyota Camry, laptops, three Apple iPhone 6 and three Blackberry phones from them. Some implicating documents were also found and downloaded from their laptops. They are to be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed.‪

Many residents were left in deep shock as Christ Apostolic Church members located in Yaba, Lagos State engaged each other in a violent fight inside the church premises on Sunday.

According to TVCNews, the fight was as a result of disagreement over church funds. The members fought each other destroying the altar and forcing the pastor out of the church.

Unknown gunmen have abducted a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) branch in Isawo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Vanguard reports.

The unnamed man of God was said to have been taken inside the church on Sunday, July 24, while preparing for workers meeting.

It was gathered that the kidnappers had entered the church pretending to be members who came to worship before pulling guns on the pastor.

One of the church members identified as Williams, said the cleric was abducted around 7a.m, explaining that the workers meeting usually holds before the main service of the day.

“He was busy preparing for the meeting, when suddenly some people came in dressed in beautiful attire and they were taken for members who had come to worship. It was not until they pulled out guns before it dawned on us that they are militants,” he said.

According to a resident, Isiaka Disu, kidnapping in the area has become rampant in the last one year, urging the Lagos State government to step up security in the axis.

Abba Usman, 18, who allegedly participated in the recent attack by some Muslim youths on St. Philips Catholic Church, Suleja, Niger State, has said his gang’s actions were not based on religious extremism.

The suspect stated that the blame should be on some female members of the church for playing musical instruments so loud, dancing and making noise while a Juma’at prayer was going on at the mosque opposite the church on Friday, July 15.

The suspect added that shortly after the Juma’at prayers on the fateful day, he and other youths went to the church premises to attack the church.

“We went to the church to teach them a bitter lesson so that they will never disturb the peace of the mosque again, especially on a Friday when we are having a prayer. They have the whole of Sunday to themselves and we have never disturbed them from doing their own programmes,” he said.

“We all entered the church and vandalised some of their property, while we took some of their musical instruments and other valuables. I went for two of the microphones with the aim of selling them, but I was not lucky as I was caught with them,” the suspect stated.

While addressing journalists, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, described the action of the youth as criminal.

He disclosed that police received a distress call that some youths were vandalising the property of the church.

“On the receipt of that complaint, we sent our Rapid Response Team to the scene but before the police team got there, many of the youth had fled. However, Abah Usman was caught in action,” he said.

A social media user schooling at the Federal University of Technology in Owerri, Imo State also known as FUTO has shared the news of the ill-treatment given to a phone thief.

He was nabbed while trying to sell the phone to another person after cleaning the entire data on it. He was beaten and made to swim in a stagnant water while he was publicly paraded.

Reports surfaced on the social media alleging that Prophet Obi O. Obi of Anchor of the Restoration Church located at Owufuju Street, Asaba, Delta State, was caught with a married woman.

The story was accompanied with pictures showing him in his panties holding his church banner as he was being paraded on the streets. No one could have doubted the authenticity of that story.

But Prophet (Dr.) Obi O. Obi called Olu Famous, publisher of OluFamous.Com on phone and gave his own version of the saga – what really happened. The man of God said he was set up by a lady.

Prophet Obi said that he was set up by a lady who was the Secretary of his church but was dismissed few months back and she became bitter. How did it start? He said he received a call from someone who sounded distressed, telling him that there was an emergency and begged him to come quickly to pray for a sick person who was about to die.

He was given a certain address and he rushed down as a Prophet who doesn’t hesitate to help anyone in distress. Unfortunately, as soon as he got to the address he was kidnapped, bundled into a vehicle and driven back to his church. He said the guys who abducted him assaulted him and accused him of sleeping with a married woman, without mentioning the name of any woman to him.

So, it wasn’t as if Prophet Obi was caught red handed sleeping with a married woman as was alleged.

When they got to his church, the guys brought him down from the vehicle, forced him to take off all he was putting on, he then sighted the same lady who he sacked as the Secretary of his church.

That was how he got to know she was the one who sent them to disgrace him and rubbish his church.

Prophet Obi said two of the guys who kidnapped him from the compound he was invited to and took him back to the front of his church, had guns and shot in the air, claiming to be SARS.

He said he had to “corporate” with them, to avoid being shot. And he used his church’s programme banner to cover himself after the guys had stripped him to his pants. He said that nobody could come close to help him because two of the guys had guns.

He said all the allegations against him are false, and that was why no woman was seen in the pictures that were sent to the social media. Prophet Obi added that the incident happened since on Wednesday and that Police is now involved. They have obtained the phone number that was used to call him and have assured him that all those involved in the CONSPIRACY would be tracked down.

He said everyone to disregard those pictures circulating, saying he only played along to save his life.

Francis Taiwo, the Celestial Church pastor of Key of Joy Parish, who chained down his 9-year-old son for weeks for stealing has been arrested by the police.

Taiwo had fled after his son was rescued by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following a tip off by members of the community.

Premium Times reports that the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest on Sunday, said the Celestial Church Pastor was arrested with the assistance of his church members.

The police had previously arrested the victim’s step mother. According to the police, the malnourished boy has been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare for further rehabilitation.

Mr. Adejobi said Mr. Taiwo, will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.

The federal government has announced its plans on the killers of Eunice Elisha Olawale, the preacher with the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

As Pastor Eunice Olawale, the female preacher of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, was laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja, the presidency has pledged to find and punish accordingly the killers of the mother-of-seven.

Speaking on behalf of President Muhamadu Buhari at the burial service, Babachir David Lawal, the secretary to the government of the federation, promised:

“As a government, we want to inform you that all the perpetrators of this act will not go free and will be brought to book. All Nigerians should be safe and free to practice their religion anywhere. Government’s resolve is to fish out the perpetrators. We pray to God not only to forgive them, but pray that the perpetrators seek for repentance. On behalf of the President and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, may God console you.”

Recall that the 42-year-old was was killed with a machete while preaching in the Gbazango-West area of Kubwa by suspected Muslim fanatics on Saturday, July 9, in Abuja. She was called a martyr.
