Following reports of the move by the Nigerian senate to pass a bill censoring social media, President Muhammadu Buhari in reaction to the public outcry, has assured Nigerians that he would not assent to any legislation that is inconsistent with the nation’s constitution.
A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu on Monday, shows the President’s reinstating his administration’s commitment to the protection of free speech in keeping with democratic tradition.
He said since Buhari had sworn to defend the constitution of Nigeria, he would not lend his hand to anything that was inconsistent with the constitution.
He assured Nigerians that ‘’there is no cause for alarm, because the Senate is a democratic Senate. The President won’t assent to any legislation that may be inconsistent with the constitution of Nigeria.”
“But he (the President) is not averse to lawful regulation, so long as that is done within the ambit of the constitution which he swore to uphold,” he added.
“As a key component of democratic principles, the President acknowledged that people in democratic societies are so emotionally attached to free speech that they would defend it with all their might,” he added
A quite furious mob destroyed a mass transit bus (LAGBUS) belonging to the LAGBUS Assets Management Limited after it allegedly crushed a five-year-old girl to death, and injured another pedestrian.
The accident occurred at the Otto bus stop, in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State.
According to PUNCH Metro, the mob smashed the side glasses of the BRT and damaged the front windscreen with stones.
It was gathered that at about 12pm on Friday, a woman and the schoolgirl, whose name had yet to be known, were walking on the pedestrian side of the Oyingbo-Otto Road, when the LAGBUS driver hit them.
The five-year-old’s legs were said to have been smashed, while another male pedestrian, said to be an okada (motorcycle) rider, was injured.
The girl was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead.
A police source told PUNCH Metro that the driver fled immediately he heard that the victim died in the hospital. He added that some of the youths wanted to set the bus ablaze, but were stopped by the police.
He said:
“It was at about 12.30pm on Friday. The woman was the mother of the girl, and they were returning from the school. The LAGBUS hit them at the junction and also hit an okada rider. The police got information that there was commotion in the area, and that some youths might resort to violence, so we moved in and the bus was towed away. The driver is at large.”
At the scene of the accident, it was gathered that the okada rider had hit his head on the ground and bled for a while before he was stabilised by Good Samaritans.
A bus driver, who gave his name only as Wasiu, and claimed to be an eyewitness, said the LAGBUS driver disappeared when he got to know that the girl had died.
“The girl was about five years old. She was being taken home by her mother. We do not know her name. The bus hit them at the pedestrian side. The girl was badly injured. The driver of the LAGBUS initially came down and helped in rushing the girl to a hospital. It was in that process that some youths vandalised the bus. It was when the driver learnt that the girl had died that he fled.
“The other man was bleeding all over. He would have died too, but for the first aid given by the people staying around the scene.”
Following the birth of the second child of Kim Kardashian, on Saturday, December 5th, 2015, the model/reality TV and her husband have finally come up with a name for their child.
The name, “Saint West” was written via a tweet by Kim Kardashian in block letters yesterday. She also took to her website to announce. She wrote:
“To our fans. Saint West. 12.05.15. 8 pounds, 1 ounce”
Meanwhile, sometime in June, a tweep had actually predicted that Kanye could presumably call his son that name, “Saint”.
Now his tweet has gained massive retweets and people flooding his timeline, asking him to predict their match scores, lottery numbers and all.
It’s even speculated by some fans that the couple may have stumbled on the guy’s tweet and used the name. Either ways, the child bears “Saint”, and he had said it way before the birth of it. Lol.
Yayyyy! It’s apparent that the couple are back on! Thank goodness, Toke has a soft heart!

Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has claimed that about $1bn (N197bn) went missing every month under former President Goodluck Jonathan‘s administration.
Daily Post reports that the former CBN bank governor, revealed this during a programme entitled ‘How a cancer of corruption steals Nigerian oil, weapons and lives’. The show aired on The PBS NewsHour, an American daily evening television show.
The monarch said many dirty and shocking deals took place under the immediate past Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is currently being investigated in the United Kingdom.
The Monarch is quoted as saying:
“In Nigeria, there is no accountability at all and that is why I think Nigeria’s corruption is worse than corruption in most parts of the world. It is the worst type of corruption. It’s stealing.
“Frankly, I think a billion dollars under Jonathan a month was about what we were losing.”
Speaking further, the emir claimed that during Alison-Madueke’s tenure as petroleum minister, people paid as low as $50m for access to crude oil blocs valued at over $2bn.Sanusi said,
“Basically, all it does is allow a group of people, who themselves don’t have any kind of operating background, to pay $50m for access to the crude oil in blocs, valued at over $2bn and they just take the crude oil, ship it out and don’t return the money and there is no trace of where the money has gone.
“Someone gets a contract to lift crude from the terminals to the refineries and in between, that crude is stolen; it is stolen on the high sea.”
“If she goes to court and is jailed for example, it sends a signal; I think that there is a day of reckoning,” he said.
The US television show quoted United States and UK authorities as saying that Alison-Madueke might have “personally overseen the stealing of $6bn”.
“The most common method is awarding oil contracts to companies owned by friends”

It looks like popular media personality Toke Makinwa and her estranged husband have reconciled.
The pair who arrived separately at the venue for the Pepsi sponsored Corporate Elite 2015 event, later cozied up to each other during Jagged Edge’s moving performance.
Maybe it was the lyrics to Jagged Edge’s ‘Walked Outta Heaven’ that did it, or the pull of being at the same event… Whatever the case, Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida may be on their way to renewing their vows.
A Spokesperson for the Vatican (Roman Catholic) has officially announced today that the second coming of Jesus, the only son of the God, may not happen now after all, but urged followers to still continue with their faith, regardless of the news.
Cardinal Giorgio Salvadore told WWN that this years 1,981st anniversary is to be the Vatican’s last in regards to waiting for the Lord to return to Earth.
“We just feel Jesus is not coming back by the looks of it.” he said.
“It’s been ages like. He’s probably flat out doing other really good things for people somewhere else.”
Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus promised his disciples that he would come again in chapter John 14:1-3 of the bible:
“There are many homes up where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with Me where I am. If this weren’t so, I would tell you plainly”
The Vatican defended Jesus’ broken promise, claiming “he was probably drinking wine” at the time when he made the comments.
“Having the ability to turn water into wine had its ups and its downs.” added Cardinal Salvadore.
“We all make promises we can’t keep when we’re drunk. Jesus was no different.” The church said it will now focus attentions on rebuilding its reputation around the world, but will keep an optimistic mind for the savior’s second coming.

It’s been reported newly, following the break up and make up of Kylie Jenner and Tyga, that the reality TV star only took the rapper back to spite his ex/Baby mama, Blac Chyna.
According to Radaronline, an insider exclusively revealed that the main reason the 18-year-old reality star can’t let her bad news boyfriend go once and for all is because he’s been “crying on the shoulder” of his baby mama, Blac Chyna.
“Kylie’s so immature, she has this ridiculous ego and can’t take the thought of Blac getting Tyga to herself again,”
As reported by the site, 28-year-old Chyna rubbed Jenner’s short-lived breakup with Tyga, 26, in her face when she posted a video online showing a watch he bought her. Kylie determined to prove she can have him at will and took him back.
“Blac’s taunts are what persuaded Kylie to have these peace talks, so she could prove to herself and Blac that Tyga’s more interested in her,” revealed the source.
Presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) in the April 2015 presidential election, Alhaji Ganiyu Galadima, who was allegedly kidnapped, has been released by kidnappers in Kogi State, after paying about N40 million for his release.
Narrating his ordeal in the hands of his abductors, Galadima revealed to reporters that the incident occurred a few kilometres drive after Lokoja, close to Obajana town.
He also confirmed that he and two other men were released in the afternoon after a ransom of N40 million was paid.
“Our vehicles were robbed by the Fulani men before three of us were selected and matched into the forest. After trekking for about 10 kilometres, they now informed us that we have been abducted. They were Fulani boys, about 12 or 15 of them. Since were taken into the forest, in about 50 hours that I spent with them, we had trekked all together not less than 40 kilometres,“As I explained before our kidnappers were Fulani young men between the ages of 25- 35 years. They demanded a ransom of N40 million from each of us and asked us to drop the money at designated location,”
“it was after we had been robbed that the young men forced the three of us to march into the bush with them” he explained.
Galadima lamented that no policeman came to their rescue despite being informed, adding that they were only released after their abductors had collected the N40 million ransom they had demanded from each of them.
For few months on social media now, RnB singer/rapper, Lynxx, has been all about God, inspirational quotes and all; which is an obvious change from ‘Ladies man’.

Mrs. Oluchi Emeka, a devastated widow from the village of Umuokoroala, Afugiri, Umuahia North Council Area of Abia State has cried out to public spirited individuals after she lost goods worth over N500, 000 to a strange fire that razed her provision shop.
Narrating her ordeal, Mrs. Emeka said that she heard some strange noise at about 1 a.m but thought the noise was coming from her neighbour’s house and when the noise persisted, she opened her window and discovered that her shop was on fire.
Speaking to Vanguard, she said:
“It was beyond my comprehension. When I raised an alarm , my neighbours came out to help me put out the fire. But by the time we opened the shop, all my goods were already burnt down.
“Nothing was rescued from the shop and I just stocked my shop for Christmas sales. I have no money to restock my shop again,” she lamented.
“We don’t use candle in the shop and nothing was plugged to any electric source. Besides, there was power outage all through the night. Even the fuel and kerosene in the shop were not burnt. I can’t explain the cause of this fire. I am a widow with six children. I really need help and support to start over again.”
A resident of the community who did not want her name in print alleged that such fire incident must be the handiwork of some evil people who do not appreciate the progress of others.
“This lady lost husband last year and this Christmas, they have also burnt her shop. Her enemies are at work and I will only advise her to be strong in prayer,” she said

In line with the heavy criticisms following the move by the Nigerian senate to pass a bill censoring social media, leadership of the Senate has assured Nigerians that they will be able to make input and determine the fate of the controversial Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and Other Related Matters bill, sponsored by Senator Ibn Na’Allah, APC, Kebbi South.
In a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Senator Aliyu Sabi, the Senate is quoted as saying:
“The senate is committed to freedom of speech and a fully inclusive and participatory democracy.“The process of passing a bill is comprehensive and provide for inputs to be taken from all and sundry.
The fist stage is merely to read the short title of the bill. The second stage is purely to debate the general principles.
“The next stage is committal of the bill to appropriate committee or committees for further detailed legislative action where the details, intendment and clause by clause implications of the bill is dissected by the committee.
This stage also involve public hearing in which members of the public, civil society, non governmental organizations and all interested parties for or against the bill have the opportunity to shape and influence its content.
“The outcome from this committee stage is what will be finalized and then represented to the chamber for clause by clause consideration and approval or disapproval by the Senate.
Thereafter, if the bill is approved, then the clean version of the bill is forwarded to the House of Representatives for concurrence or otherwise” “Accordingly, the Senate wants to re-assure the public about this.
So, all those who are either for or against this bill or its part and any other one have ample opportunities to reshape it”, he stated.
“We will always ensure we pass laws which meets best practices across the world and indeed democratic scrutiny. Suggesting that the senate wants to pass a law not even practiced in China etc is being mischievous.
“This Senate is people-centred, pro-poor and participatory. We will always act in the best interest of the citizenry. In this regard, we are totally committed to performing our duties and discharging our responsibilities without let or hindrance.
“All those spreading hate campaigns as a result of the Anti-frivolity bill, hauling insults at and making derogatory comments on Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the institution of the Senate are advised to key into the elaborate legislative process that a bill must pass through before becoming law if they are interested in shaping the outcome of the bill.
This is the right way to go and part of the change we all aspire for our democracy
“The eighth Senate is totally committed to protecting the liberty of all Nigerians and the independence of the Senate and the legislative arm of government as we deepen our democratic journey”,

Some Nigerian football fans were on Saturday expelled from a football stadium in Senegal for displaying Biafran flags.
The fans were expelled minutes after they displayed Biafran flags alongside Nigerian flags at a football match between Nigeria and Algeria at the U-23 African Cup of Nations holding in Dakar, the Senegalese capital.
There have been protests in South-East Nigeria by Igbos who demand for a separate Biafran country. Biafra was also the name adopted by the Eastern Nigeria during the civil war between 1967 and 1970, after which a ‘no victor, no vanquish’ was declared by the federal government after Biafra was defeated.
On Saturday, the Senegalese football association officials considered the display of the Biafran flags at the Leopold Sedar Senghor stadium “a militant act”.
As a result, the Vice President of the Senegalese Football Federation, FSF, Amadou Kane, who was in charge of the organisation, ordered security officials to respond by tearing down the Biafran flags and posters and expelling the supporters involved.
Senegalese FA officials said the group took advantage of the presence of the media at the stadium to raise the Biafran flag.
Dressed in T-shirts with the Biafra logo, eye witnesses said the group “invaded” the left wing of the covered pavilion to flaunt the Biafran flag alongside that of Nigeria. They later displayed a large flag calling for Biafran autonomy.
The match eventually ended 0-0 with Nigeria coming second in Group B with five points, behind Algeria.
Nigeria will face Senegal in the semi-final next week while Algeria will battle South Africa.

I think I have a great skin so all I do now is ensure that I use a proper sunscreen cream to maintain my skin tone.
I don’t have anything against body enhancement surgeries. If I can afford it, I may alter some parts of my body.”
