“They said I screamed at my wife…” – Singer, Seun Kuti reacts to domestic v!olence allegations

Popular Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti, has finally responded to allegations that he physically and verbally abuses his wife Yetunde.

Speculations arose recently suggesting that the Afrobeat singer’s wife, Yetunde, might be a victim of domestic violence after a viral video showed him yelling at her during an altercation with a police officer.

In the video, which circulated online a few weeks ago, Yetunde is seen stepping out of the car in an attempt to calm her husband during the confrontation with the officer on Third Mainland Bridge. However, Seun ordered her back into the car, and she complied without hesitation.

Watch the video below;

This sparked a flurry of reactions from social media users who speculated that Yetunde was afraid of her husband.

Addressing these speculations during a recent Instagram live session, Seun Kuti denied assaulting his wife.

He also debunked the notion that Yetunde is scared of him, stating that he is the one who is actually scared of her. He added that those who are familiar with his family could testify to this.

“The most important rumor I must dispel is the one that they said I’m beating my wife. They said I screamed at her to get into the car [in the viral video], and she went into the car… That she is scared of me. My wife is not scared of me. Trust me, if you know anybody that knows us, I’m the one that’s scared of my wife. But my wife respects me,” he explained.

Video of hotelier, Adedoyin in court after he was sentenced to dəath by han.ging for mur.dər of OAU student

A video has surfaced online showing hotelier Ramon Adedoyin in the Osun State High Court after he was sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of OAU student Timothy Adegoke.

On Tuesday, May 30, Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, owner of Hilton Hotel in Ile Ife, along with two others, was sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Timothy, which occurred in the hotel in November 2021.

Timothy Adegoke, a former postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, was murdered inside a room at Hilton Hotels Ile-Ife, owned by Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, in November 2021. Adedoyin and six of his workers were arrested and arraigned in connection to the murder.

The court, presided over by Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, found Adedoyin and three of his staff guilty of murder and conspiracy.

During the judgement, Justice Ojo stated that the circumstantial evidence available to the court pointed to the unlawful killing of Adegoke, who was a guest at Adedoyin’s hotel.

Justice Ojo mentioned that Adedoyin’s decision not to testify in court did not work in his favor, as the circumstantial evidence had shifted the burden of proof onto him.

She further noted that Adedoyin’s refusal to testify implied his agreement with the murder charge pressed against him by the prosecution, dismissing the alibi provided by his counsel, who claimed that the hotel owner was in Abuja for an extended period around the time of Adegoke’s death.

Justice Ojo, however, discharged and acquitted three of the staff members, Magdalene Chiefuna, Lawrence Oluwole, and Adedeji Adesola. The sentencing of the seventh defendant is scheduled for Wednesday, following pleas from both the prosecution and defense counsels.

According to The Cable, the judge ordered the forfeiture of the hotel and the Hilux bus used to transport the deceased to the dumping ground. Justice Ojo also directed Adedoyin to pay the school fees of Adegoke’s two children.

Timothy Adegoke had stayed at Hilton Hotels and Resorts in Ile-Ife upon his arrival from Abuja on November 5, 2021, in order to be on time for his examination at OAU Distance Learning Centre in Moro, Osun State, on November 6 and 7, 2021.

However, he was declared missing by the police on November 7, 2021 when friends and family members couldn’t reach him.

Later, following a police investigation into the hotel owner, Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, and his workers, Timothy’s body was discovered buried in a grave.

“Avoid mistakes of your predecessors” – Actress, Toyin Abraham pens open letter to President Tinubu

Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham has penned an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following his inauguration on Monday.

The actress, a staunch supporter of President Tinubu, took to her Twitter handle to share the letter, explaining her reasons for supporting his candidacy despite the heavy criticisms and backlash she received online.

She urged him to listen to the concerns of the people and address their fears about the future in order to restore public confidence.

Speaking further, she advised him to learn from the mistakes of his predecessors and strive to unite the country.

Her letter read,

“Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,

Let me start this letter by offering my hearty congratulations on your confirmation as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It is the highest honour any Nigerian can receive to be given the people’s mandate and asked to lead Nigeria. The road to the presidency has taken several years and a lot of hard work on your part, and to have your efforts crowned by success is Allah’s way of rewarding all of your good deeds and private dua’s.

People have asked why I openly supported your candidacy when others opposed you. I have received insults and threats to my life and business because of my personal choice, which I have never forced on anyone else. I will continue supporting you because I have experienced your leadership in Lagos and your achievements as a public servant. I have also admired your ability to adapt to the times and how you have supported the dreams and ideas of so many younger people. That said, I will always side with the people and Nigeria over anyone, and I think I speak for all of us when I say we need peace and stability in the country.

The president’s office is a big responsibility, requiring humility, intelligence, and courage to govern successfully. These are qualities I know you have. I also know you understand better than anyone the seriousness of your role as president. After all, you have been preparing for this role since your NADECO days in 1993 and the role you took in defending M.K.O. Abiola’s candidacy as president during the June 12 protests.”

“Some Igbos also propagate hate and don’t have respect for hierarchy or authority” – Seyi Law reacts to Pere Egbi’s statement on the hate against Igbo people

Popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, has reacted to reality TV star, Pere Egbi’s concern about the existence of prejudice and discrimination towards the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria

Pere recounted his experience with a politician who he claimed said that an Igbo person can never become the leader of Nigeria. According to Pere, the hate is so real and he feels for them.

Reacting to Pere’s statement, Seyi Law claimed he had been making inquiries about the topic and had received responses.

According to the comedian, certain Igbos also spread hatred and have no regard for authorities.

He wrote;

“Pere, I hope we will be discerning enough and wise not to push a narrative of war because of anger. I know that many have called me a tribal bigot for supporting Tinubu, omo ale for not supporting GRV and many more for their own reasons. I have dared them several times to prove all these, but they have failed, and I have concluded that some Nigerians always project their beliefs on others for self-satisfaction.

While some of your statements might not be entirely wrong, I ask you, in all honesty, that if you have researched and probed deeper, why do some people make such statements? People will come come for me definitely, and this is one of the mistakes they keep making. Instead of critically analysing a situation, they believe their angers will change a situation that calls for dialogue.

What are some of the reasons for this notion you expressed? I have asked questions about this several times, and I have also witnessed some of the answers to the notion. While this is painful to discuss, we must come to the table someday.

Firstly, it is the average Igbo man’s individualistic nature. Many people of the other tribes have had dealings with some Igbos that have resulted in bad businesses and cheating. Does this justify the notion for some, yes, and to others, maybe. Politics involves the collective and an individualistic mindset can not drive it to success.

Secondly, some Igbos don’t have respect for hierarchy or authority, even amongst themselves. They believe that my money places me on equal pedestal with elders as long as I am not begging them for anything. This has always put them in conflict with the culture of other tribes.

Thirdly, some igbos express HATE and a sense of superiority over other tribes without decorum. While many may be quiet about expressing that anger about this, they wait for politics to wield their power. The continuous belief that we do it better and denigrating others from other tribes doing it with never make the Igbos attractive in politics.

Political antecedents have also contributed to this notion, you stated. From Azikiwe to Aguyi Ironsi, bad political moves have put a lot of resentment in the wheels of the Igbos political aspirations. Dr. Soludo has stated that the mob actions of Peter Obi’s supporters will set Igbos back politically, and this was collaborated by Dr. Nnamani, but instead of heeding a wise counsel, these men were incinerated.

There are many more to talk about, but I will stop here to receive my whips. While constantly maintained that we must, as a matter of urgency, have a national peace conference to discuss critical issues and resolutions on the Biafra war, national cohesion, political integration, and more, the Igbos must also play their part to foster unity. However, this justified your anger. Sometimes, we must learn to sit back, reason deeply, and ask the why?. Thanks”

“Getting married in my 20s stole precious years of my life” – Ghanaian singer, Kwabena Kwaben

Ghanaian singer, Kwabena Kwabena has expressed regret about getting married early, stating that it deprived him of valuable years in his life.

The 44-year-old singer who tied the knot in his twenties stated this in a recent interview with Zionfelix.

He admitted that he should have prioritized his young and blossoming career instead of settling down at that age.

“The irony of the whole thing is that I played a role in stealing precious years of my life. Around the age of 26 or 27, I felt that I should have focused on my career and not allowed any external forces to derail my progress,”he said.

Kwabena Kwabena noted that he believes that God has given him a second chance to pursue his dreams.

He emphasized that he is now older and wiser to understand the importance of seizing opportunities and not taking anything for granted.

His words,

“I feel I was a young guy around that time, but by God’s grace, God has given me the chance again to have a second shot of my life.

That’s the reason why I am not taking things for granted because around that time, there were other people who have become casualties or were involved, and so I don’t want to make it look as if I was a great person and somebody was bad.

I feel that at a point in my life, I should have focused on my career more than any other thing. I shouldn’t have married then”.

“Don’t be deceived, marriage still works” – OAP Nedu

Popular media personality Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, better known as Nedu, has affirmed that working marriages still exist despite the increasing divorce rates.

Nedu, who recently unveiled his new lover months after his first marriage crashed during a recent episode of his Honest Bunch podcast, expressed belief in the institution of marriage.

He encouraged singles not to be influenced by negative news surrounding marriages. This advice came after reality TV star Teddy A, who was a guest on the show, shared the story of his own love journey with his wife, Bam Bam.

Nedu emphasized that social media often amplifies negativity, particularly regarding marriage. He noted that those with happy marriages tend to keep them private to avoid scrutiny and judgment, as external opinions can harm a relationship.

“This is me telling you guys that marriage works. Don’t be deceived by what you see on social media. On social media, the voice of the ones that don’t work is the loudest. The many that work, they want to keep it private because na wetin person know na e he dey spoil.” He said.

Just recently, Big Brother Naija star and singer, Tope Adenibuyan, popularly known as Teddy A, recounted the state of his relationship with his wife, Bambam and the event that led to his wedding proposal.

Speaking an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast with Nedu Wazobia and others, Teddy revealed that he and Bambam has been in a serious fight for about two weeks before he proposed.

According to him, the relationship was almost at its end and it looked like there was no other solution and he just wanted to end it in a way that brought closure.

The socialite claimed that he had called his brother to express how he felt about BamBam and that the brother had warned him to be aggressive or else risk losing her to someone else, since Teddy A was still obviously in love with her.

He noted that he had ordered BamBam’s manager to inform the singer about her meeting with the governor of Lagos state and Olamide.

She had gone to the location of the meeting because she was excited about the idea of speaking with the governor; however, she was unaware that Teddy A was working at her home organizing a surprise marriage proposal.

He was on one knee and holding a wedding ring when she eventually arrived home.

Model shares how she was rejected on a set because she wasn’t ‘lightskinned’

A Nigerian model, Ewa has taken to social media to share her terrible experience with an unnamed artiste on a music video set.

Sharing on the microblogging platform, Twitter, she revealed that the artiste had picked her for the role himself but on getting to the set, he changed his mind and decided he wanted a light-skinned model for the role instead.

According to Ewa, they offered to pay her a compensation fee that was not up to half of the initial price and told her to be grateful she was getting anything because they could have easily paid her nothing.

She wrote;

“8am on Sunday, I left my house in Ikeja to the set of a mv at Lekki. Some minutes after noon, the artiste arrived on set and said he changed his mind. He wants a light skinned model because my skin tone ‘doesn’t fit the aesthetic’

At this time, I was done with makeup and half way through my hair, so l was thinking it must probably be a joke. Am I supposed to whip out bleaching cream and turn myself into the skin tone that fits the aesthetic?

The members of the crew tell me that it’s the artiste’s video and there’s nothing they can do about it. This is very funny to me because the artiste himself casted me for the role a week ago. And it wasn’t until an hour to filming that he decided he wanted a lightskinned girl.

They said I will be given a compensation fee which isn’t even half the pay for the job but I should be grateful because they could have just told me bye bye.

Throughout everything the director and the artist refused to address me personally and instead resorted to sending members of the crew to me. They told me to go home, it happens all the time, lightskinned women are preferable for mvs.

They kept telling me how the situation could have been much worse. ‘What if I had started filming before the artiste changed his mind?’ I should be grateful they decided to give me some money because they originally just wanted to pay for my transport alone.

I can’t begin to describe how insulted I felt. The fact that this didn’t happen in Europe or Asia makes it all the more hurtful. It’s always baffling to see how outrageously colorist our society and the industry is.

I’m a dark skinned woman and if I don’t fit the aesthetic or meet up to your beauty standards, don’t book me. It’s that simple. There are thousands of lightskinned women to choose from.

Models are not accessories. We are not shoes or bags that you can change and replace as you see fit. We are people and we deserve to be treated as such.

She stated that Adedoyin’s decision not to testify did not help his case, as the circumstantial evidence had shifted the burden of proof onto him.

Justice Ojo also added that Adedoyin’s refusal to testify implied his agreement with the murder charge brought against him by the prosecution. The alibi pleaded on his behalf by his counsel, stating that the hotel owner was in Abuja for several days around the time of Adegoke’s death, was dismissed.
