“A lot of Nigerian musicians are depressed but pretending online” – Singer Iyanya

Popular Nigerian singer, Onoyom Mbuk, professionally known as Iyanya, has stated that many of his colleagues are depressed but are pretending to be happy and fulfilled online.

The “Kukere” hitmaker stated this in a recent chat with popular media personality Chude Jideonwo.

You will recall that in December 2022, Iyanya opened up about his difficulties in a series of Twitter posts. He recounted how he struggled to land shows in December 2021 and even had to beg to perform at shows just to get visibility.

In recounting his struggles and return to the spotlight in the chat with Chude, the singer stated that his tweets inspired many people.

“It is the reality of the game, you know. When you are out for a while coming back is even harder. Most people don’t even come back. When you come back like that you have to let people know that sharing our stories inspires so many people.

“So many people reached out to me to say ‘thank you for that tweet you made. You’ve inspired me’.

“We [artists] don’t share this [vulnerable] part of our lives. That is why so many people are frustrated not knowing that another person is going through something worse than theirs.

“A lot [of musicians are depressed]. A whole lot. The people who you see out there making you feel like things is good, they are the ones going through worst things. So, they try to make you feel like they are right. People are going through a lot. So, you have to be vulnerable with your experiences.” He said.

Reality TV star and entrepreneur, Erica Nlewedim, has been dragged on social media over her choice of outfit to Netflix’s Queen Charlotte movie premiere.

On Saturday, April 15, Netflix held an exclusive premiere for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story in Cape Town, South Africa.

The event was attended by several Nollywood stars, including Bimbo Ademoye, Lily Afe, Nancy Isime, Kunle Remi, Mercy Eke, Priscilla Ojo, Sharon Ooja, and Erica Nlewedim, who all made fashion statements with their elegant outfits in line with the “royalty” theme of the night.

Big Brother Naija season 7 star, Bella, and her lover, Sheggz, have got fans and followers gushing with a new video of them they shared online.

In the heartwarming video, the lovers are seen asking each other questions, which they each had to give honest answers to.

The first was Shegz addressing his past relationship before coming on the BBNaija show, where he met Bella. He disclosed that he was in a sexual relationship before the show.

Sheggz then went to ask if Bella would leave him for a N100 million cash prize.

Responding, Bella chose her lover, Sheggz, over the N100 million, noting that she’s not about the money.

She gushed over Sheggz and told him that she loved the way he loved, so she wouldn’t ever trade what they shared for money.

“I’m not all about money. I really love you; I love how you love me. Money is not everything,” she said.

Just recently, Bella unfollowed her colleague and friend, Phyna, on Instagram over a controversial tweet about her and her lover Sheggz.

It all started after Phyna took to her Twitter page to address those sending her loved-up photos of Bella and her love interest, Sheggz, to mock her single status.

She issued a stern warning to the trolls while reiterating that she’s a “one-man squad” and doesn’t need a man “to do her.”

While the tweet was addressed to trolls, tweeps opined that it seemed like a shade to her friend, Bella.

A young Kenyan woman, identified as Marcy Musunza, has taken to Facebook to lament bitterly about her cheating husband.

Marcy, in a post shared on Sunday, April 16, revealed that her husband cheats on her with multiple women because she hasn’t given him a child after two years of marriage.

According to the heartbroken wife, her husband has no regard for her anymore and even calls his concubines in her presence, and he is threatening to leave the marriage.

Marcy, who took to social media to seek advice from netizens, wrote on her Facebook wall,

Popular Nigerian media personality, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, better known as Nedu, has asserted that marriage has lost its original purpose and has become a means for some women to escape poverty.

Nedu made this assertion while reacting to the divorce saga between Moroccan footballer, Achraf Hakimi, and his Spanish wife, Hiba Abouk.

Recall that Hakimi’s wife is reported to have asked for half of the footballer’s property after she filed for divorce, but to her shock, the court told her that her husband had nothing, as all his fortune was in his mother’s name.

In a video he shared on his Instagram page, Nedu noted that marriage is dead and that women have now turned it into a poverty alleviation scheme.

According to him, Abouk married Hakimi because she envisaged that after some years in the relationship, she would seek a divorce and leave with half of his fortune.

To corroborate his assertion, he added that the richest woman in the world today got her wealth through a divorce.

“I no know if una don see that video or the message or the pictures of that PSG footballer wey them dey call Hakimi wey e be say him be 24-year-old and his wife dey ask for divorce. And the divorce wey she dey ask for, she dey talk say 50 percent of wettin the guy get make them give her.

Nigerian afrobeat singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, disclosed that when he was 17 years old, he earned his first million naira and gave the entire amount to his mum.

The singer shared this while speaking in a recent interview with Z100 New York.

According to him, his mother needed the money more and it was not cool for him to be 17 and driving around in a car when his mother did not have a car of her own.

He said;

“The person who I knew needed it more was my mum. So, I handed everything I made to her. I know it was cool to drive around the city as a 17-year-old in a cool whip. But I can’t drive a cool whip when my mum didn’t have a car or my mum has to borrow my keys. You know, I had to put her on first,” he said.

“Passing all of that to her, whatever investment she makes… I made my first million [naira] at 17 but I made more than a million. But it’s cool to be in that stage to be able to provide for your family.”

The Calm Down crooner went on to say that his ability to support his family and create possibilities for others is his greatest accomplishment.

Big Brother Naija star and skincare guru, Ifu Ennada has declared her love for middleweight champion Israel Adesanya of the UFC.

She stated she wouldn’t mind going on a date with him if the Nigerian-New Zealander mixed martial artist was game for it.

Ifu shared this while speaking in an interview with The Punch and discussing her favorite sports and sportsmen she admires.

In her words;

“I used to be a big fan of wrestling until I discovered that their matches were scripted, I also like boxing but I don’t really follow it. What I follow now is the MMA and there are some Nigerians there like Israel Adesanya and Kamaru Usman.

My favourite would be Israel, and aside the fact that he is extremely handsome and hot, the fact that he is also petty, I love it. What he did to Pereira’s son by mocking him the way he mocked him after he won, I love it, some people were saying ‘why’, and I’m like ‘why not?’ I like the fact that he looked for the guy and gave it back to him.

I know he is an adult but that is something someone like me would do, so, I love him for that. He is very confident, I just love Izzy, he walks into a room and you can feel his energy, and that is the type of person I am as well.

I was so happy, especially because he had lost to that guy three times before. I was delighted really and I left a comment on social media on a blog I follow, where I said, ‘a win for one is a win for all’ and someone even came at me, trying to bring politics into it because Izzy is Yoruba, and the person said something like ‘Igbos only choose to be Nigerian when it is convenient.’ And I just realised that this was coming from a tribalistic person.

I have always seen myself as a Nigerian, regardless of my tribe. I don’t see Yoruba, I don’t see Igbo and it is sad that someone will bring tribalism into sports. Man abandons wife at UCH as she battles kidney failure after losing their child at birth

A lady identified as Ifeoma has taken to social media to reveal that a patient is struggling for her life at University College Hospital, Ibadan after being abandoned by her husband following the loss of their child.

Taking to the microblogging platform, Twitter, Ifeoma stated that the lady had difficulties that led to renal failure when her baby died after labor.

According to her, the affected woman’s husband left her in the hospital and phoned her relatives and asked them to come to get their daughter.

Despite being put on dialysis, the man nevertheless vanished while she was still in that state.

Ifeoma wrote;

“A lady is battling for her life in UCH after giving birth. The baby died and her kidney failed, she’s currently on dialysis.

Husband called her family that they should come and carry their daughter and vanished. Women, PRAY!!! PRAY very hard not to marry your enemy!!!”

A Nigerian lady identified as Eferusuoa has cried out online after her relationship ended due to an incompatible genotype.

She disclosed this in a Facebook group on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

According to her, she was finding it difficult to accept the fact that the relationship was over and she had to move on.

She wrote;

“How do you heal from a relationship that has to end due to genotype issues. Right now, the pain am feeling from this is too much to bear. How can I start accepting the fact that very soon, we won’t talk often, I won’t see him again. Am really pained…I sincerely need all of your advises.”

In other news, a UK-based Nigerian man opined that a woman has failed as a wife if her husband doesn’t gain weight following years of marriage.

Taking to Facebook, the man identified as Austin Deko, asserted that a woman is a failure if her spouse does not get fatter after five years of marriage.

He wrote on Friday, April 14,

NYSC disassociates from male corp member who allegedly defrauded policewoman

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management has distanced itself from Ukanwa Ikechukwu, a Corps member who was detained on suspicion of scamming a female police officer, ACP Modupe Okpaleke.

He was charged with defrauding a police officer of N235,000 on Friday, April 14 before an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Oyo state and was charged with fraud and theft.

According to a statement from the director of press and public relations, Eddy Megwa, the culprit, Ikechukwu left the NYSC when he finished his service in February 2023.

The statement read in part;

“The attention of the NYSC management in Oyo State has been drawn to the information circulating on social media about a corps member sent to jail in Ibadan, Oyo State, for criminal offence. Management wishes to make the following clarifications; the said Ukanwa Ikechuwuku is now an ex-corps member who passed out of National Service in February 2023.

Secondly, when he was serving, he collected a sum of N235,000 to purchase a physiotherapy machine for a woman at the police clinic where he was serving but failed to get the machine. Every attempt made by the woman to get a refund of her money from this ex-corps member proved abortive, therefore she decided to charge him to court for criminal offence.

I wish to emphasise that the NYSC uniform is not an immunity against any form of criminality because the laws of the federation applies to all and sundry.”

The defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusations at his arraignment in court.

Inspector Olufemi Omilana, the prosecution, informed the court that the suspect allegedly received N235,000 from Modupe Okpaleke on December 4, 2022, with the purpose to deceive.

Omilana went on to say that ACP Okpaleke met Ukenwa while seeking treatment for a leg ailment at the Police Cottage Hospital in Eleyele, Ibadan. Ukenwa suggested that Okpaleke purchase a bicycle.

The police claim that Ikechukwu, who was doing his NYSC at the Police Cottage Hospital in Eleyele, Ibadan, took N235k from the female officer there to help her but instead fraudulently used the money for his personal purposes.

According to the prosecution, the crime violated sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Oyo State 2000 Criminal Code.

Nigerian food critic, Opeyemi Famakin has spoken out after receiving death threats from Don Jazzy’s supporters because of his Jazzy Burger review.

Three months ago, when Don Jazzy’s Burger first debuted, Opeyemi gave a review of it. Three months later, he chose to conduct a second evaluation in order to note improvements.

However, there were a few lapses and disappointments, including that he did not get a side of fries for a burger of N12K and called out Don Jazzy for the errors.

Taking to his Instagram page this morning, Famakin revealed that he has been receiving death threats from Don Jazzy’s fans as a result of the review.

He wrote;

Popular British rapper Stefflon Don has reacted after being humiliated by trolls who claimed she hasn’t moved on from her ex-boyfriend, Burna Boy.

Recall that the singers went their separate ways in 2020 after being in a relationship for two and a half years.

Stefflon Don recently tweeted without any context about how she knew listening to things from her perspective would change many people’s minds.

“Hearing my side of the story would change everything,” she tweeted.

However, trolls swarmed her page with comments suggesting that the message was about Burna Boy and how their romance ended.

Reacting to her post a tweep wrote; “2 years and u never still forget your ex na wah oo🤣🤣🤣men plenty abeg we no won hear leave burna alone save the story for your self I hope u learnt from it abi u won chase clout with burna?”

Nigerian actress, Mary Remmy Njoku has reacted to unconfirmed reports that Achraf Hakimi’s wife will get nothing in the divorce because the footballer allegedly has all his assets in his mother’s name.

Taking to her Instagram page, she remarked that Hiba Abouk should have saved her own money or waited till he was older before getting married.

According to the ROK TV boss, Hakimi is still a boy, and there is no sane African mother who will let go completely of her teenage child, it is acceptable that his mother manages his finances.

She wrote;

“How do you marry a teenager and expect him to be independent of his parents? an african teenager there is no sane African mum who will let go completely of her teenage child. Pikin wey suppose dey do a level. Abi because na star? Most of the contracts were probably signed when he was underaged. So it wasn’t international.

Nigerian tech entrepreneur, Charles Awuzia has reacted to the unconfirmed claims that Achraf Hakimi put all his assets in his mother’s name, making it impossible for his wife to get anything amid their divorce.

Charles Awuzia took to Facebook to share a lengthy piece detailing his opinion on the matter and reasons, why he did not agree with Reno Omokri’s, takes on the issue.

He claimed that if Achraf Hakimi hid his assets with his mother to prevent his wife from getting anything, then the footballer was not his hero.

Awuzie added that if Reno were as wise in relationship matters as he projects, then his wisdom should have saved his first marriage.

He wrote;

Achraf is trending for hiding his money under his mother’s name to frustrate his wife’s efforts to claim 50% of their estate.
Here are the facts:
1. Hiba Abouk, wife of Achraf Hakimi is a professional Spanish actress. She is not broke and definitely not a gold digger as many of you claim. She has her own money hence she never cared about Achraf sending all his money to his mother while she uses hers to run the home. In fact, in 2020, sportsmob called Hiba one of the RICHEST Spanish actresses.
2. Hiba is one of the most intelligent actresses in Spain. She speaks Spanish, Arabic, French, English and Italian fluently. How many international languages do you speak?
3. Hiba Abouk is older than her husband Achraf by 12 years… Yes, 12 good years. She contributed in the background to his rise. Achraf was only 19 when they met. Hiba is 36 years old now while Achraf is 24 years old. Achraf is a 24 year old mummy’s boy – no real man should ever take lessons from such a young mummy’s boy.

Any man who gives his mother all his money to hide it from his wife is not man enough and definitely not smart. Did you follow Bill Gates divorce? That’s a smart divorce – they settled everything amicably and only went to court to sign the official paperwork.
5. There’s a rape case against Achraf right now. Rape is a serious crime. You don’t know what else his wife knows. We all recently condemned the #DalaiLama for asking a boy to suck his tongue. Why are you now making a hero out of a 24 year old mummy’s boy whose rape case is now before a court?
Conclusion:
Only a boy would give his money to his mother in order to hide it from his wife. And this also exposes the maturity of Reno. Stop taking relationship advice from boys. Achraf and the likes of Reno are men who give their mother money to hide from their wives.
For me, I raise men who are REAL MEN…. we don’t give our mothers money to keep away from our partners. We give our spouses right to our wealth and if they ever ask for divorce, we give them a reasonable Portion of the wealth we built together, say goodbye and continue to be friends for the sake of the kids. How I was found alive at crash site 3 days after accident – Nigerian lady recalls childhood miracle

A Nigerian lady identified as Oghenerume has shared her story of a miracle that happened when she was still a baby while on a family vacation.

According to Oghenerume, they traveled for Christmas and were on their way back to a place in the north when an accident occurred, causing their automobile to summersault.

The medical workers became aware that a kid was missing after her mother begged for her infant after waking up from a three-day coma.

They hurried to the scene of the collision and saw the infant was sobbing beneath the damaged vehicle.

In her words;

“My dad had tortoise car. We came home for Christmas and was on our way back to the north. We had an accident and the car summersulted. Mum woke up 3 days later in the hospital and was asking about her husband and children. That was when they realized a child was missing.

Long story short, sm persons went back to the accident scene & true to mums words, they heard a baby crying under the car and that’s how I was reunited with my family. My father told me this story. Said I was a toddler when it happened. He still has pictures of the accidents car.”

Court documents released on Friday, April 14, revealed that CashApp founder, Bob Lee, was stabbed to death by the 38-year-old founder of software company Expand It, Nima Momeni.

The suspect allegedly stabbed him through the heart with a kitchen knife after they argued about his sister and whether they were doing anything inappropriate.

It was earlier reported that Lee was attacked in downtown Rincon Hill neighborhood in San Franscisco around 2am on Wednesday morning, April 5. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he passed away. Read here

Police claim that hours before Lee was killed, he and Nima spoke on the phone about his sister, Khazar Momeni, who is married to someone else.

According to an anonymous witness, Nima questioned Lee about his relationship with his sister and whether she was “doing drugs or anything inappropriate,” to which Lee replied that nothing was wrong.

Though it is unclear what happened after that, Nima allegedly drove Lee to a “dark and secluded area” of San Francisco that night and stabbed him through the heart with a kitchen knife.

Nima brought the knife from his house, which authorities say proves the murder was “planned and deliberate.”

The document also claimed that Khazar texted Lee around the time he was killed to check on him.

The message reads,

“Just wanted to make sure your doing ok Cause I know nima came wayyyyyy down hard on you.
And thank you for being such a class man handling it with class. Love you Selfish pricks”

Meanwhile, Nima was arrested on Tuesday, April 13, and will face charges in court for the murder of the Cash App CEO. He is set to be arraigned on April 25, and risks more than 20 years in prison if convicted.

Crossdresser arrested for deceiving men into seeking his hand in marriage in Kebbi

Men of the Nigerian Police Force in Kebbi have arrested a crossdresser for allegedly deceiving men into seeking his hand in marriage.

The crossdresser identified with the pseudonym “Maryam,” which he uses to deceive unsuspecting men, is alleged to have been posing as a woman on social media.

Interestingly, Maryam caught the attention of several men who were ready to take him as a wife, without knowing he was a man.

Many men fell for the deception and became emotionally invested in the relationship. They even went as far as proposing marriage to the transvestite.

The men were said to have given thousands of naira to Maryam to get him to accept their marriage proposals.

However, their dreams were shattered when they found out that the person they had been talking to was not a woman but a man who poses as one.

Following his arrest, the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to the crime, adding that he got a lot of money, including foreign notes, from the several men who wooed him.

Reacting to the reports, a police source confirmed that Maryam has been detained and will face prosecution.

Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has opened up about his beef with colleague, James Brown.

Speaking during a recent interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, Bobrisky revealed he’s not cool with James because he believes he copies his style.

He added that although he loves James Brown’s funny personality and tried to be friends with him, it didn’t work out.

Korra, in a video currently making the rounds on social media, revealed that she paid half of her bride price when she got married to her ex-husband Justin.

She made this disclosure while responding to those who claimed that Justin took her out of poverty and gave her a better life.

Nigerian Dentist, Dr. Oluwatomisin Oso has berated UK-based Nigerians who often come online to complain about the standard of living in the UK.

In a series of tweets shared on the microblogging platform, Twitter, Dr. Oso tackled those who automatically expect their lives to change overnight and discourage others from coming because they do not experience the rapid change they expected.

According to him, it was unfair to expect sympathy from people who did not have the basic amenities they are enjoying abroad because they could not be patient.

He wrote;

“The things you left in Nigeria, did you build them in a year? Why do you want your life to suddenly transform in one year of japa? If you see progress, be thankful and keep pushing cos you’ll soon break through. Some of the things UK people say makes me puke.

You get here and suddenly things that were considered luxury in Nigeria become your daily reality. You get things you couldn’t dream of buying in Nigeria, but you’re pissed you don’t have 20 thousand pounds in your account 12 months after traveling. What happened to patience?

You complain about working too much, but you forget to mention that you get paid for every extra minute you spend at work. You’ve suddenly forgotten how you spent 5 hours on the road going to work in Nigeria, or how you got called in to do overtime without extra pay.

In your 12 months here, police hasn’t stopped you once, you’ve never heard sound of generator or constant blaring of horns. You have constant power and superb internet, eat whatever you want without breaking the bank. Anytime you feel ungrateful, remember why you left Nigeria.

We know how bad things are back home, no one going through the wahala in Nigeria will take you serious when you complain. Don’t look for sympathy from people back home, your quality of life is considerably better, yes I said it. Form a community and lament amongst yourselves.

Ebiede, who played as an attacking midfielder, died at the age of 47 on Friday, April 14, at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) from hepatomegaly complications.

Hepatomegaly is the enlargement of the liver beyond its normal size.

The news of Emmanuel Ebiede’s passing was confirmed by journalist China Acheru, who is based in Port Harcourt, where Ebiede was receiving treatment.
