Nollywood actress,Idia Aisien, has recounted how she was heavily criticized over her complexion and language in the entertainment industry.
She opened up in a recent chat with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, while speaking on the negative reviews that trailed her debut performance in “Nneka The Pretty Serpent”.
The Edo-born actress said she was heartbroken by those who said she was not a good fit for the role because she is not Igbo and light-skinned.
“When it first came out in the cinemas, I was a little bit heartbroken by some of the comments that people were leaving. Comments about me not being light-skinned or Igbo, about me destroying what meant something to a lot of Nigerians. Nigerians loved their veteran actors. They love their Nollywood classics. So, it was something that I just wished people could see how much passion went into it at the time,” she said.
She added, “I was hurt at first because Nneka is a fictional character and anyone could bring something different to the character but I don’t think that tribe and skin colour should matter. I mean, Black Panther was Americans pretending like they are in Africa. A lot of people who criticised it (the film- Nneka the pretty serpent), criticised it because of the choice of Nneka, which broke my heart.”
The 31-year-old actress also spoke on the struggles of being a woman in the entertainment industry and Nigeria as a whole.
She bemoaned how people attribute the success of a woman to a male lover, and accuse them of being bankrolled by a man.
She recounted how her father once bought her a brand new car, and her colleagues at work claimed she got it from their boss.
According to her, it is sickening and Nigerians need to accord more resect and regard to women.
She added, “Nigerians need to be kinder to women, we don’t like women in this country because if you look at everything in terms of job, pay, and how women are treated.”

Abdulrazak Lawal, a 22-year-old merchant appeared before a Kado Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday, February 15, for allegedly defrauding a commercial sex worker.
The defendant was accused of refusing to pay the sex worker for her services and stealing N266,000 in mobile phones from her.
Lawal of Jabi Daki-biyu, Abuja, was charged with deception and stealing by the police.
Mr. Stanley Nwafoaku, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that on January 30 at 3:50 p.m, the complainant, Ms. Charity Joseph of Jabi Masalachi, Abuja, reported the case to Life Camp Police Station.
Nwafoaku said that the defendant sought the sex worker for her services on January 25 at about midnight.
He said the defendant bargained with the complainant to pay N10,000 for the night at White House Hotel Jabi Daki-biyu, Abuja.
The prosecution claimed that the defendant took the complainant’s iPhone, which was worth N266,000.
Nwafoaku further told the court that the defendant did not pay the agreed-upon N10,000 and that once Lawal was detained, all efforts to retrieve the phones failed.
He stated that the defendant acknowledged selling the phones for N35,000 to one Abba, who fled to Katsina State.

Wakili ordered that the surety give a BVN printout, a current passport photograph, and a valid identity card, which the court registrar must verify.

German-born Nigerian footballer, Karim Adeyemi, says the secret behind his unusual speed on the field is African dish, fufu.
The winger, who is rated as the fastest man in Bundesliga, demonstrated his incredible speed during the UEFA Champions League match against Chelsea on Wednesday night, February 15.
Adeyemi ran past Chelsea player, Enzo Fernandez, to score a solo goal that gave the German side their win.
Speaking to newsmen after the game, the 21-year-old star, who was born in Germany to a Nigerian father, attributed his speed to eating fufu.
“I eat a lot of African foods but I have good genetics from my dad. [The food] is called Fufu from Nigeria,” he said in a post-match interview.
“The only thing I was thinking [against Enzo Fernandez] was that I just need to get the ball past him. You just try to win your duels, the goalkeeper came out and there may have been a bit of luck, but I’m delighted with the goal.”
It’s a case of new year, new luck. For me, it’s that simple. As a team, we talked a lot during the break and it brought us closer together.
The win tonight was crucial and it was unbelievable to play in front of these fans. We wanted to give Chelsea a tough game from start to finish and we’ve won.”

President Muhammadu Buharion Thursday morning, February 16, addressed the citizens of Nigeria following the crisis that erupted over the Naira swap policy.
In his speech, he extended the validity of the old N200 notes till April, stating that it is still a legal tender.
He ordered the CBN to release the old N200 back into circulation and allow it co-exist with the newly redesigned N200, N500 and N1000 notes.
Read the full text of his speech below,
“NATIONAL BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE CHALLENGES OF THE CURRENCY SWAP AND STATE OF THE NATION, ON 16th FEBRUARY, 2023
My Dear Compatriots,
I have found it necessary to address you today, on the state of the nation and to render account on the efforts of our administration to sustain and strengthen our economy, enhance the fight against corruption and sustain our gains in the fight against terrorism and insecurity which has, undoubtedly, been impacted by several internal and external factors.
Particularly, I am addressing you, as your democratically elected President, to identify with you and express my sympathy, over the difficulties being experienced as we continue the implementation of new monetary policies, aimed at boosting our economy and tightening of the loopholes associated with money laundering.
Let me re-assure Nigerians, that strengthening our economy, enhancing security and blockage of leakages associated with illicit financial flows remain top priority of our administration. And I shall remain committed to my oath of protecting and advancing the interest of Nigerians and the nation, at all times.
In the last quarter of 2022, I authorised the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to redesign the N200, N500, and N1000 Nigerian banknotes.
For a smooth transition, I similarly approved that the redesigned banknotes should circulate concurrently with the old bank notes, till 31 January 2023, before the old notes, cease to be legal tender.
In appreciation of the systemic and human difficulties encountered during implementation and in response to the appeal of all citizens, an extension of ten days was authorized till 10th February, 2023 for the completion of the process. All these activities are being carried out within the ambit of the Constitution, the relevant law under the CBN Act 2007 and in line with global best practices.
Fellow citizens, while I seek your understanding and patience during this transient phase of implementation, I feel obliged to avail you a few critical points underpinning the policy decision. These include:
a. The need to restore the statutory ability of the CBN to keep a firm control over money in circulation. In 2015 when this administration commenced its first term, Currency-in-Circulation was only N1.4trillion.
b. The proportion of currency outside banks grew from 78%in 2015 to 85% in 2022. As of October 2022, therefore, currency in circulation had risen to N3.23 trillion; out of which only N500 billion was within the Banking System while N2.7 trillion remained permanently outside the system; thereby distorting the financial policy and efficient management of inflation;
c. The huge volume of Bank Notes outside the banking system has proven to be practically unavailable for economic activities and by implication, retard the attainment of potential economic growth;
d. Economic growth projections make it imperative for government to aim at expanding financial inclusion in the country by reducing the number of the unbanked population; and
e. Given the prevailing security situation across the country, which keeps improving, it also becomes compelling for government to deepen its continuing support for security agencies to successfully combat banditry and ransom-taking in Nigeria
Notwithstanding the initial setbacks experienced, the evaluation and feedback mechanism set up has revealed that gains have emerged from the policy initiative.
I have been reliably informed that since the commencement of this program, about N2.1 trillion out of the banknotes previously held outside the banking system, had been successfully retrieved.
1This represents about 80% of such funds. In the short to medium and long terms, therefore, it is expected that there would be:
a. A strengthening of our macro economic parameters;
b. Reduction of broad money supply leading to a deceleration of the velocity of money in the economy which should result in less pressures on domestic prices;
c. Lowering of Inflation as a result of the accompanying decline in money supply that will slow the pace of inflation;
d. Collapse of Illegal Economic Activities which would help to stem corruption and acquisition of money through illegal ways;
e. Exchange Rate stability;
f. Availability of Easy Loans and lowering of interest rates; and
g. Greater visibility and transparency of our financial actions translating to efficient enforcement of our anti- money laundering legislations.
I am not unaware of the obstacles placed on the path of innocent Nigerians by unscrupulous officials in the banking industry, entrusted with the process of implementation of the new monetary policy. I am deeply pained and sincerely sympathise with you all, over these unintended outcomes.
To stem this tide, I have directed the CBN to deploy all legitimate resources and legal means to ensure that our citizens are adequately educated on the policy; enjoy easy access to cash withdrawal through availability of appropriate amount of currency; and ability to make deposits.
I have similarly directed that the CBN should intensify collaboration with anti-corruption agencies, so as to ensure that any institution or person(s) found to have impeded or sabotaged the implementation should be made to bear the full weight of the law.
During the extended phase of the deadline for currency swap, I listened to invaluable pieces of advice from well meaning citizens and institutions across the nation.
I similarly consulted widely with representatives of the State Governors as well as the Council of State. Above all, as an administration that respects the rule of law, I have also noted that the subject matter is before the courts of our land and some pronouncements have been made.
To further ease the supply pressures particularly to our citizens, I have given approval to the CBN that the old N200 bank notes be released back into circulation and that it should also be allowed to circulate as legal tender with the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for 60 days from February 10, 2023 to April 10 2023 when the old N200 notes ceases to be legal tender.
In line with Section 20(3) of the CBN Act 2007, all existing old N1000 and N500 notes remain redeemable at the CBN and designated points.
Considering the health of our economy and the legacy we must bequeath to the next administration and future generations of Nigerians, I admonish every citizen to strive harder to make their deposits by taking advantage of the platforms and windows being provided by the CBN.
Let me assure Nigerians that our administration will continue to assess the implementation with a view to ensuring that Nigerians are not unnecessarily burdened. In this regard, the CBN shall ensure that new notes become more available and accessible to our citizens through the banks.
I wish to once more appeal for your understanding till we overcome this difficult transient phase within the shortest possible time.
Fellow citizens, on the 25th of February, 2023 the nation would be electing a new President and National Assembly members. I am aware that this new monetary policy has also contributed immensely to the minimization of the influence of money in politics.
This is a positive departure from the past and represents a bold legacy step by this administration, towards laying a strong foundation for free and fair elections.
I urge every citizen therefore, to go out to vote for their candidates of choice without fear, because security shall be provided and your vote shall count.
I however admonish you to eschew violence and avoid actions capable of disrupting the electoral processes. I wish us all a successful General Elections.
Thank you for listening. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has cautioned citizens to not reject old Naira notes.
Governor Sanwo-Olu issued a post on his social media page this evening warning that anyone who refuses to accept the old Naira notes will be prosecuted.
He wrote;
“Dear Lagosians,
I hereby commend and applaud your patience and calmness, following the sad controversy generated by the Naira shortage crisis.
I would like to inform you that the Lagos State Government has joined the dispute at the Supreme Court, which today adjourned the hearing of the matter till February 22.
When the matter first came up on February 8, the apex court said the old notes remained legal tender.
That position has not changed. Therefore we hereby warns those rejecting the old notes to desist from doing so or face prosecution. It is against the law to reject the old notes, as doing so is contrary to the position of the Supreme Court.
I therefore plead with everyone to remain law-abiding, and shun mischief makers who may want to exploit this temporary situation to promote their anti-people agenda. I am confident that the Judiciary will resolve all the issues around the currency shortage crisis.
To cushion the effect of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directive on the old notes, especially on the vulnerable among us, Lagos State has started the distribution of the food packs as I earlier promised, while the 50% fares slash on all State transportation services facilities continues.
Thank you all and God bless.”
Nigerian skit maker, Nons Miraj has reacted to a damning allegation that she engaged in threesome sex with politician Dino Melaye and her friend Ashmusy.
Recall that few weeks ago, an anonymous blogger seemingly accused Nons Miraj, also known as Ada Jesus, of having an affair with the politician.
This came shortly after media personality, Nedu Wazobia, claimed that he walked in on two popular influencers having threesome with his friend at Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja.
Sequel to the claim, the faceless blogger posted a photo collage of Ashmusy, Nons Miraj and Dino Melaye, implying that the trio were the culprit.

She also revealed that after the scandal, Nedu called and advised her to ignore the allegation and instead, capitalize on the controversy with her content.
Her words,
“I was literally looking for how to edit my skit and bring the grand palava out. I was hustling, (saying) ‘editor correct this thing now wetin dey happen’. Someone just called me, ‘this blog don carry you oh!’ I said ‘Jesus!’ I went to check it, then, I saw myself, with Dino in the middle, and I saw ‘threesome’. Next thing, my friends call came in, ‘Nonso, wetin dey happen?’
“I was shaking because I didn’t know how to explain to my mother that this thing is not true. How do you explain to people that you did not do it because they were not there with you.
“If you Google our name now, you see will a poster of I, Ashmusy and the man in the middle. You understand I want to travel out of the country; do not be thinking this one is ashawo. It was annoying.
“People were advising me not to comment on that blog. But because I know I am so innocent, I went to their DM and told them ‘God will punish you for this thing, you will die’. Later on, I summoned courage, “Nonso, you didn’t do this thing”. I don’t know the blogger, but whoever is behind it, ‘bring proof!’
