A self-styled clergyman, identified as Pastor Igomowe, has told Christians to increase the offering they give in church in light of the ongoing global inflation.
The man, speaking in a video shared online, said the price of almost everything, including food and house rent, has increased sporadically in recent times yet some Christians are still giving the same offering in church.
Lamenting over how the situation is affecting pastors who are dependent on the offerings, tithes and freewill offering they receive from their congregants, Pastor Igomowe told Christians to increase their offerings.

Men of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a 58-year-old housewife, Hajaratu Sini, for allegedly beating her husband’s mistress to death.
It was gathered that Hajaratu, who hails from Wumbirmi Tilli, in Michika Local Government Area of the state, attacked the deceased with a stick after she caught her in bed with her husband of over 40 years.
The deceased, a widow, and Hajaratu’s husband have been having an illicit relationship, however, on Sunday, July 31, Hajaratu caught them in a compromising position at about 9p.m. when she stormed the widow’s house.
The cheating husband reportedly took to his heels on sighting his wife. She was said to have ran after him and in the heat of the moment, and in the heat of the rage, Hajaratu hit the deceased on her head leading to her death.
The mother of two was among the 38 suspects paraded at the police command in Yola, on Tuesday, August 9.
In related news, a husband who strangled his wife in Suleja, Niger state, has died from complications after he consumed a poisonous substance.
Mr Adeniyi Jose, from Akure, Ondo State is reported to have strangled his wife-of-eight years, Chidinma Gloria Ibeh, from Imo state, with a rope and also suffocated her with a pillow.
He afterwards consumed a poisonous substance said to be sniper. He was then rushed to Suleja General Hospital.

A clergyman has rejected a N25 million donation to his church by the governor of Cross River state, Ben Ayade.
The clergyman identified as the Bishop of Uyo Diocese, John Ebebe Ayah, rejected the governor’s donation on Sunday and asked him to use the money to pay the salaries of the state workers instead.
In a video that found its way to the internet, the governor, who was a special guest at the Thanksgiving mass held at St. Patrick’s Catholic, Ikot Ansa, Calabar, on Sunday, announced the donation which he made on behalf of the people of the state, the state government, his family and the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
However, while the anchor of the church program was praying that God would divinely “whisper” to every member of the church, the Bishop took hold of the microphone and then asked the Governor to use whatever he wanted to gift him to pay salaries.

A Nigerian lady has shared how she was broke-shamed by a group of guys in a Benz for boarding an Okada (commercial motorcycle) after refusing to give them her number.
The young men had earlier asked the lady for her phone number at a joint where they had first met, but she refused them and left the location.

Nollywood has been thrown into mourning yet again as filmmaker, Otu Njama, has passed away in the late hours of Tuesday, August 9.
Otu, who was in his thirties, was found dead in his house located in First Unity estate in Badore, Ajah area of Lagos state, around 9pm.
He reportedly went to the hospital for medical checkup and was told that his blood pressure was high – about 200 – and was advised to rest but he couldn’t because he had a show on Thursday, August 11.
He was said to have visited a bar he owns in the area. After seeing his employees and having dinner, he went home and said no one should disturb him.
Sadly, his lifeless body was found in his apartment hours later.
His sister, Judith, who confirmed the sad incident, said a drug for blood pressure was found in his apartment but she was not aware of his health issues.
Otu’s death comes barely 24 hours after he joined his colleagues in the Nollywood industry to mourn their colleague, popular movie director, Biyi Bandele, on social media.
Bandele died in Lagos on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the age of 54, the family said in a statement on Tuesday morning, August 9.
The news of Bandele’s death also confirmed by his colleagues, who expressed shock and sorrow as they put up his picture to mourn him.

Disqualified Big Brother Naija season 7 housemate, Beauty Tukura, has said she would have been more attracted to Hermes than Groovy if they were in the same house.

An orphaned Nigerian boy has been celebrated on social media for his impressive result in the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A Nigerian man simply identified as Jibola, who shared the result online, revealed he would be sponsoring the boy’s university education.
According to Jibola, when he met the orphaned boy last year, he was carrying dirt for the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to survive.
Jibola revealed that the boy also scored 277 in JAMB.

A 12-year-old boy has confessed to accidentally shooting his mother, a Nigerian woman known as Ayobiyi Cook.
The 29-year-old registered nurse who friends called ‘Yo-Yo’, was found dead in the family’s Forestdale, Alabama home, on the 2400 block of Freemont Avenue after midnight on August 6.
The boy had initially told police that an intruder had entered their house, shot his mother and then ran away.
Deputy Chief, David Agee said ;
“The child originally fabricated a story that detectives determined was not possible,”
“After investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives were able to determine that the victim’s 12-year-old son unintentionally discharged a firearm striking his mother causing her death.
“After more probing, the boy finally changed his story.
“The child eventually gave a true account of what happened,”
“Evidence on the scene supports that the shooting was unintentional and the offense will be addressed through the Family Court system. The family has been cooperative throughout the process and the child will remain with them.”
The funeral for the slain mom will be held on August 12 at the Faith Memorial Chapel in Bessmer, Alabama.

While in the house, Beauty had a face-off with Ilebaye where she yanked off her wig which gave her one strike. The second altercation occurred when she had a clash with Groovy (who was her love interest) for dancing with Chomzy.
Beauty threw things at Groovy while screaming at him and removed her microphone which is against the rules of the show. These two acts earned Beauty her second and third strike respectively and caused her disqualification.
Nollywood comic actor, Hafiz Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, was attacked by robbers at his residence in the wee hours of Monday, August 8.
It was gathered the robbers broke into the actor’s home in Abeokuta, Ogun state, around 2am after disarming and tying down his security guards.
The actor’s friend, Kayode Soaga, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said,
“The Robbers broke into his Home at about 2:00 am. Heavily Armed with Pump action Guns, Matchetes, Breaking in Tools. His security Guards were tied down and demobilized.
“Three other houses on the street were robbed with more devastating effect. They broke the burglary proof and went straight to him demanding #20 million or his life. Threatening to kill and destroy.
“He begged and pleaded. They later came down to #3 million naira which he said he doesn’t have. They dazed him with a resounding slap etc. The armed robbers packed all android phones, iPhones, laptops, and all available cash in the home. Also collected all ATM cards. The robbers came with POS to empty money in accounts.
Saka’s security guards were demobilized while the guards of his neighbours were not too lucky as they were shot several times in the arms. We thank almighty GOD for Saka’s Life as he’s doing fine”.
The actor is said to be doing fine with his family after the horrific incident.
Fans of Big Brother Naija disqualified housemate, Beauty Tukura, have refused to concede defeat and are making efforts to get their favorite housemate back on the show.
Recall that the 43rd Miss Nigeria was disqualified on Sunday following an altercation with her love interest, Groovy.
Beauty, who spent only 15 days in the house, was disqualified for flouting house rules.
While Beauty has yet to publicly react to her disqualification, her fans have initiated an online petition on her behalf asking that organizers of the reality show reinstate her on the show.
As at the time of filing this report, over 3000 people have signed the online petition tagged, “We are requesting the organization of Big Brother Naija to bring back Beauty.”

Meanwhile, media personality, Moet Abebe has reacted to the disqualification of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Beauty Tukura, over her altercation with her love interest in the house, Groovy.
Reacting, Moet took to her Instastory to advise women against chasing after men like their lives depend on it, and let men do the chasing.
According to her, when a man does not end up reciprocating your feelings and you tackle him for it, he would turn around and call you crazy.
The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) has reacted to the trending video of its members mocking the presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Over the weekend, a video surfaced online showing members of the Confraternity holding a procession in which they were gyrating to a song that says;
“Hand dey shake, leg dey shake, Baba wey no well, e de shout emi lo kan (Hands are shaking, legs are shaking. A sick old man is shouting ‘it’s my turn’).

The video was said to be an attack on Tinubu and the confraternity was accused of making fun of the presidential candidate because the slang ’emi lo kan’ became popular after he said it during a speech in June, where he said he wants to succeed President Buhari because it’s his turn.
Professor Wole Soyinka, who is one of the founding members of the confraternity, also condemned the video and said the lyrics is ‘distasteful and frankly appalling’.
Well, the NAS Capoon, Abiola Owoaje, has now released a statement titled “Setting the Records Straight”to address the controversial video.
He said the video was filmed during the procession held to round up its 46th Annual General Meeting, and that it was not political but has now been used by some people for political gains.
He noted that the confraternity is apolitical and are not supporting any political candidate in the forthcoming 2023 general election and beyond.
The statement reads in part,
“We must stress that we are apolitical. As an organisation, we have never had a preferred candidate in any political elections including the upcoming 2023 general elections. We have members who belong to different political parties and are absolutely free to support any candidate of their choice.
It is most unfortunate that political capital is being made of this with interpretations that are totally at variance with the philosophy of the Pyrates Confraternity. Unequivocally, we condemn this in very strong terms.
We understand that political merchants desperately seeking media mileage are all over the place misinforming and twisting events to suit their political agenda. However, we wish to re -emphasise that the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) are not supporting or backing any candidate for the office of the President or any other office in the 2023 general elections and beyond.
As an organisation in tune with disadvantaged and voiceless people, we are committed to the enthronement of a just society in which no one is discriminated against based on tribe, religion, gender or disability. We are against conventions that are moribund. We have always stood for Humanistic ideals, comradeship and chivalry. Nothing that has happened can and will change that posture.
We are determined to continue to use our social programmes, intellectual platforms and our compelling songs to advocate for good governance and accountability!”
American professional tennis player, Serena Williams, has announced that she is retiring from tennis.
The 40-year-old announced her retirement in the latest issue of Vogue, published on Tuesday, August 9.
The legendary tennis player who welcomed her first child, Olympia, in 2017, said her decision was influenced by the desire to expand her family and spend more time with her husband, Alexis,
Her retirement is, however, not immediate, as she revealed in her Vogue piece that she is still hopeful she can play at the US Open in New York later this month.
“I have never liked the word retirement. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”
“I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair,” Williams wrote. “If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family.”
Unfortunately I wasn’t ready to win Wimbledon this year. And I don’t know if I will be ready to win New York. But I’m going to try. And the lead-up tournaments will be fun.
