18-year-old female boxer dies after being knocked out in a fight

An 18-year-old Mexican boxer identified as Jeanette Zacarias Zapata has died after a knockout left her in critical condition.

Zapata was knocked out in the fourth round against Marie Pier Houle at the GVM Gala International in Montreal last week.

She suffered a seizure in the ring after her opponent Marie Pier Houle gave her a left uppercut and a right hook. She was rushed to the hospital afterwards, but fight promoter Yvon Michel confirmed she had died on Thursday afternoon.

“It is with great sadness and torment that we learned, from a representative of her family, that Jeanette Zacarias Zapata passed away this afternoon at 3:45 pm”, a statement released on Thursday, September 2 reads.

Houle, Zapara’s opponent has also taken to social media to express sadness over her tragic passing.

“Boxing carries a lot of risks and dangers,” she wrote on Instagram. “This is our job, our passion. Never, forever, intention to seriously hurt an opponent is part of my plans. I extend my deepest condolences to her family and spouse Jovanni Martinez. Thank you for respecting my desire not to comment more”. She wrote.

Two 100-level students of the Taraba State University, Jalingo, have stirred hilarious reactions after cooking and sleeping in their matriculation gowns to fully maximize the N1,000 rental fee.

The undergraduates reportedly had their matriculation ceremony on Thursday, September 2, but they refused to return the gowns immediately because they had not expended the amount paid for renting the gowns.

One of the students, Sefanu Saaga, took to Facebook on Friday morning to share photos of himself sleeping and cooking in his matriculation gown and captioned it, “My N1k never finish”

A Facebook user also shared photos of another student of the same institution cooking and sleeping in the regalia.

In other news, an abroad based Nigerian man has shared photos of food items his UK school provided, to support him while on quarantine.

According to the man identified as @OnyedikaAnambra on Twitter, he’s on a 10 day quarantine and the school provided him with the food items to alleviate the effect of the pandemic.

Sharing photos of the food item on the platform, he compared it to Nigeria where he alleged that the Governors are hoarding noodles from poor citizens.

In the midst of all the drama that’s been going on social media involving the Idibia family, after actress, Annie Idibia took to her IG page to call out her husband over the possibility of him being unfaithful, an old video of one of the singer’s baby mamas, Pero Adeniyi’s dad giving a revelation about their union, has resurfaced online.

The video which was shared online in 2019, is an interview of Prince Jide Adeniyi with Asabe Afrika TV, where he spoke about the relationship between his daughter and music mogul, 2Baba Idibia.

In the interview, Prince Adeniyi explains that he got to know about 2Baba after his daughter introduced him as her man. He then shared that Pero and 2Baba had three children together.

According to Prince Adeniyi, his daughter and singer, 2Baba were actually married before 2Baba then married another woman years later despite the fact that Pero had given him his first three children.

UNIUYO graduate dies in police custody after he was allegedly wrongfully arrested and beaten to death by Akwa Ibom police

Family and friends of a young Nigerian man, Kubiet Akpan have taken to social media to cry for justice after he was allegedly wrongfully arrested and beaten to death in police custody.

It was alleged that the deceased, a University of UYO graduate and only son of his parents was falsely accused of being an armed robber and taken into custody by men of the Nigerian police force, B division Ewet Housing Estate, Akwa Ibom.

According to reports, Akpan had been in the police custody since the incident which happened on Sunday, August 29th till he was allegedly beaten to death.

Friends who heard of his arrest reportedly went to search for him in B division and several other police stations but the police allegedly denied having him.

A close friend of the deceased giving details of the incident in a Facebook post claimed that they eventually realized he had been killed after his aunt called the police commissioner and people in government.

Nigerian rapper and songwriter, Ycee has replied a social media user who claims there is nothing unique about singer, Tems’ voice.

The man with handle @SirDavidBent had taken to Twitter to berate Tems after it was announced that she is featured on American rapper, Drake’s newly released album “Certified Lover Boy”.

The man who claims to be a musicologist opined that a lot of Nigerian female artistes can sing better than Tems and she is only famous because of good PR and hype. According to him, her voice sounds normal and doesn’t get him in his feelings like singers, Chidinma, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Omawunmi.

He tweeted,

“There are plenty of female artistes that can sing better than Tems. I’m yet to find what is unique about her voice.

Except a lot of PR and Twitter hype.

Chidinma’s voice sends chills down my spine. Tiwa Savage sends chills as well. Yemi Alade and Omawunmi are better singers.

Unfortunately there’s nothing “unique” about Tems voice.

Her voice is just normal to me. It doesn’t send chills down my spine.
