Physically challenged Nigerian pharmacist, Blessing Mary Ocheido, has shared the heartbreaking story of how she became disabled.
The UN Youth Committee member on Beijing +25, who recently got married, revealed that she was not born disabled and was a perfect, healthy and vibrant child.
According to her, she stopped walking when a nurse gave her an injection that accidentally hit her sciatic nerve over 20 years ago.
The Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria graduate, shared this on Facebook on Thursday, July 1, as she counts down to her 28th birthday.
She wrote;
“It’s officially 14 days to my birthday! As such, my 14 days of gratitude begin today. Today, I’m grateful that a major disability I suffered in my childhood did not destroy me,”
Growing up, I was a rambunctious kid; I loved to play, dance and make mischief. My mum loves to tell stories of my numerous troublesome acts like almost getting myself drowned in the bathtub while everyone was going frantic looking for me.
I was perfect kid- healthy, precocious and beautiful. Then I fell ill with malaria and was taken to a clinic. My mum said the moment the nurse injected me, she knew something went wrong. A large chunk of blood jutted out because apparently, the syringe had gone in wrongly and hit my sciatic nerve. When my mum complained, she was told there was nothing to it.
However, as soon as we got home, I fell in front of the door and that was the last day I ever walked… It’s been over twenty years of navigating a developing society like Nigeria with a disability and I must confess, it has been immensely difficult.
Nevertheless, I’m grateful that my disability did not stop me or define my fate negatively. I have gone on to become almost everything I dreamt of as a child- a pharmacist, writer and owner of a thriving business. Sailing on the wings of my experience, I have even become an international advocate for persons with disabilities working closely with organizations like UN Women, One Young World, British Council, We are Family Foundation, Pollination Project and Voice Global.
There’s much more I have my eyes set on, nevertheless, I’m truly grateful for how far I’ve come in spite of how much life stacked up against me from the start.
I’m grateful that I have been able to look past the hate, the discrimination, the mockery, the pain and to have stayed the course. Totally grateful.”</blockquote

Nigeria’s President. Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigerians are the problem of the country.
Buhari said this while receiving members of the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo (MBO) Dynamic Support Group, who visited the State House in Abuja on Wednesday June 30 to present a compendium of five years achievements of the administration.
President Buhari recounted his struggle to get justice after disputed results of presidential elections in 2003, 2007, and 2011.
Buhari said that those who ruled against him were of his own ethnic stock and religious persuasion, while those who stood up for him were of other faith and ethnicity.
The President said;
“Our problem is not ethnicity or religion, it is ourselves.
“After my third appearance in the Supreme Court, I came out to speak to those who were present then. I told them that from 2003, I’d spent 30 months in court.
“The President of the Court of Appeal, the first port of call for representation by presidential candidates then, was my classmate in secondary school in Katsina. We spent six years in the same class, Justice Umaru Abdullahi.
“My legal head was Chief Mike Ahamba, a Roman Catholic and an Igbo man. When the President of the court decided that we should present our case, my first witness was in the box.
“Ahamba insisted that a letter should be sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to present the register of constituencies in some of the States, to prove that what they announced was falsehood. It was documented.
“When they gave judgment, another Igbo man, the late Justice Nsofor, asked for the reaction from INEC to the letter sent to them. They just dismissed it. He then decided to write a minority judgment. That was after 27 months in court.
“We went to the Supreme Court. Who was Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN)? A Hausa-Fulani like me, from Zaria. The members of the panel went in for about 30 minutes, came back to say they were proceeding on break. They went for 3 months. When they came back, it didn’t take them 15 minutes, they dismissed us.
“In 2007, who was the CJN? Kutigi. Again, a Muslim from the North. After 8 months or so, he dismissed the case.
“Again in 2011, because I was so persistent, Musdafa, a Fulani man like me, from Jigawa, neighbor to my state, was CJN. He dismissed my case.
“I’ve taken you round this to prove that our problem is not ethnicity or religion. It is ourselves.
“I refused to give up. I had tried to wear Agbada after what happened to me in Khaki. Something was done to me, because I did something to others. You know it. In the end, I myself was arrested, sent to detention, and they were given back what they had taken. I was there for three and a quarter years. This is Nigeria.
“I hope historians and intellectuals would document this, because it is a fantastic state of political development. Let our grandchildren and great grandchildren see how we came along. We didn’t get it as easy as other people think. Not because God has given us great population and resources. We have suffered along the line.
“I try to mention these things because you got yourselves together, used your resources, energies without any input from me. I cannot thank you enough. I’m very grateful to you and to Nigerians because in 2019, I visited all the states, the people that turned out to see me across the country (because I’m dedicated to serve Nigeria and Nigerians), the love is genuine.
“Thank God that over the years, they can’t accuse me of corruption. And I’ve been everything; Governor, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Head of State, President and in my second term. I thank you that nobody forced you, but you got together, used your energy, time and resources, I thank you very much. I assure you, history will do you justice.”

You see why we are shouting that you should take care of your health, go to the hospital, do medical check-up, know the situation of your body.

Popular Nollywood actress, Adaeze Eluke has taken to social media to advise men to speak up when they need help.
According to the actress, as a man, opening up about your feelings or challenges is not in any way a sign of weakness.
Adaeze Eluke who noted that over seventy-five percent of people who commit suicide in the world today are men, urged them to open up about whatever they are going through.
In her words,
“Dear men asking for help is not weakness. 75% of people who commit suicide in the world today are men. Stop manning up and speak up to someone today”.
Ada’s advise has however stirred mixed reactions on social media. An Instagram user noted that the reason why most men do not speak up is because they rarely get help even after opening up.
In his words, “But ma when we speak no body even dey answer”.
@edem_abraham2020 wrote, “No one listens if men speak, should we continue speaking.? Especially this part of the world all power is given to the women over the men. Lord have mercy”.
When smartphones became full-screen devices, color, material & finish (CMF) became more important than ever before. In a world where almost all phones look relatively similar, Infinix took a step in a new direction, bring a color-changing back cover to a device with next-generation design & aesthetics.
The Infinix concept phone is a collection of cutting-edge technology, bold colors, and creative design. The phone’s back cover takes “NOW” as the design element. It uses bold lines for concise construction, which fits in with the current trend that young people look for in the design of a device. When this device charges, the silver-gray, light blue, and bright green mobile phone body bloom on the back cover, which represents an energetic beautiful color reflecting the vibrant personalities of Infinix users.
In an industry-first design innovation, Infinix, with the world’s first dual color-changing back cover, introduced two industry-leading photochromic technologies, “electrochromic” and “electroluminescence”, which are combined and applied to the back cover glass of the concept phone.
The Infinix concept phone uses solid electrochromic film SECF (solid memory electrochromic film) in the smartphone body, which is a stable and reversible color change material under the action of external an electric field. SECF is ultra-thin, energy-saving, and super transparent. The Infinix concept phone uses SECF as a flexible electrochromic film pasted on the back of the mobile phone body. On the basis of electrochromism, Infinix added electroluminescent film. Electroluminescence converts the electric energy into light by using the characteristics of light produced by the light-emitting materials under the action of an electric field.
Electroluminescence has been widely used in other fields, such as Automobile surface coating, but it has rarely been used on mobile phones because of its power consumption and transformer volume. After researching, Infinix finally designed an EL film suitable for a mobile phone, which made the whole structure light and thin. EL light-emitting film has the characteristics of strong concentration, vibrant color, and solid form.
With these two technologies combined, when the user receives an incoming call or charges their mobile phone, it detects these two signals and will operate a “current command” to change the color of the back cover, so the mobile phone will show different colors when changing modes.
When there is an incoming call, the back cover of the phone changes between silver gray and light blue. When charging, the back cover of the phone not only changes color but also flashes a green dot rhythmic in the middle of the back cover. The green light is combined with the circle in the middle of the “NOW” character to form a green energy ball, which is connected to the charging port by an extension line, and green energy gushes out from the charging port and is injected into the device showing the transfer of power, so that “NOW” can be distinguished at a glance with the symbolic aesthetic characters of science and technology. See for yourself from Unbox Therapy.
The Infinix concept phone is both an exploration of futuristic technology and next-generation aesthetics, which ingeniously combines pattern design and optical technology. This concept phone is a small step forward for Infinix, but for the industry as a whole, it’s a peek behind the curtain of the amazing technology we will see in many different smartphones in the near future.
