Olanrewaju James, a Yoruba actor popularly known as Baba Ijesha has just been granted bail, on health grounds.
The Yoruba actor has been in custody at the State CID, Panti, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old-girl in the home of comedienne Adekola Adekanya, popularly called ‘Princess.’
Due to the industrial strike by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), courts have been shut and cases adjourned.
The release of Baba Ijesha on Monday afternoon came as a result of magistrates going around police stations across Lagos State, listening to cases and giving hearing to those arrested.
Baba Ijesha’s case was the subject of national discourse and raised the topic of pedophilia and rape in Nigeria.
A lawyer told FIJ that Baba Ijesha’s release on health grounds sounded more like an easy way out. The case had been forwarded by the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
There has however been skepticism on how the DPP handles cases of sexual assault and rape. In 2019, Don-Chima George and Rasaq Oluwasegun were arrested for gang-raping a 23-year-old lady. The DPP however failed to produce key witnesses to help in the prosecution of the case.
The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, had stated on May 4 that “the Ministry of Justice would not relent in its efforts in ensuring that whoever sexually abuses any resident of Lagos State is speedily brought to book.”

A Nigerian man and father of nine is reportedly set to divorce his wife of 24-years to marry another woman.
A Twitter user who claimed to be the cousin of the wife revealed the said man forbade her aunt from “working, furthering her education and family planning.”
Narrating the heartbreaking story on the micro-blogging platform, the Twitter user noted that the man also abandoned their nine children with her aunt, who has no means of taking care of them.
“My aunt’s husband stopped her from school, family planning, working, everything. Now he has divorced her after 24 years of marriage with 9 kids because he is remarrying. Ya ce ya yafe kids din and he doesn’t have any income to feed them.
“She took the kids to him and said atleast he should feed them because she doesn’t have any means to. He said to them “nikam ku je ba na ce na sallame ku harda mamar taku ba?” She tweeted.
A year after he was accused of rape and assault, Nigerian Twitter Influencer, Tife Fabunmi, has taken legal action against his ex-girlfriend, Sansa Oroboghene.
It can be recalled that the pair were always serving couple goals on social media, so their break up came as a surprise to many and was a trending topic on Twitter for days.
After their once-perfect relationship hit the rocks, Sansa took to Twitter to accuse Tife of rape, abuse, infidelity and leaking her nudes on social media. On the other hand, Tife also made demeaning comments about her on the timeline saying “he’s had his share of her, he’s not having sex with her again”, etc. ICYMI
The conflict between the ex-lovers took an un-expected twist after Sansa got married to someone else barely 3 months after their relationship hit the rocks, which stirred another controversy on social media.
Almost a year after the whole saga, the ex-lovers appears to have settled into their separate lives, however the rape allegation remained a huge stigma on Tife’s reputation and he has proceeded to file a lawsuit against Sansa.
In the lawsuit which he shared on his social media pages, Tife demands a video and a written apology from Sansa and also asked that she retract the false allegation of rape she made against him.
According to the lawsuit, if she fails to meet the demand within the next 14 days, Tife will seek N100m in damages for libel.
He wrote,
“Over a year ago, I was falsely accused of rape by Comfort (Sansa), she didn’t make formal complaints but continued alongside others to consistently bully me on social media platforms.

If anyone else has something against me on the allegations, or choose to continue pushing false narratives about me, get ready to be a co-defendant.

A Northern Nigerian media personality, Waspapping has in a recent tweet said his spouse would have to pack out of his house if she wouldn’t want his mother to stay with them.
According to him, if his mother wants him to build a flat for her inside his compound, so she can stay with him, then he’ll grant her wish but if his spouse is not comfortable with the idea, then he says she can take her things and leave.

Nollywood actress, Bimbo Ademoye has called out Nigerian filmmakers who are constantly pushing their substandard movies to the cinemas.
The thespian shared her thoughts in a recent interview with Sunday Scoop. According to her, not every movies deserves to be shown in cinemas, as some are better watched at home.

“I am a perfectionist. I am the type of person that can make a movie worth millions and would still think it is not cinema-worthy. I am not one to decide what film makes it to the cinema but I can tell you films that should not make it to the cinemas. Don’t disrespect that space. Founder of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, has revealed what his action would be if Nigeria is engulfed in crisis.
According to the clergyman, he would be the last to leave the country in case things go south as a result of crisis.
