A 19-year-old University of Nairobi student has been arrested by Police in Nairobi for allegedly killing her boyfriend and father of her unborn child on Tuesday, March 15, following a domestic quarrel at their home in Kangemi.

Kelvin Mugalla Ikatwa, 25, a Bachelor of Arts student at the University of Nairobi and midfielder for the National Super League side, Wazito FC who was fondly known as Razor, was allegedly stabbed to death by Sheila Atemi with a kitchen knife after they had a disagreement over a Facebook post.

According to Nairobi News, it is believed the spat was over a photo of another female posted by the deceased on his Fabook page.

According to Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome, who confirmed the incident, “When the Police arrived, they found the man already dead and the woman was sitting next to the body of the deceased. He had been stabbed in the neck and the knife was also found at the scene.”

The body was deposited at the Chiromo Mortuary awaiting pot-mortem as the police conduct investigations. Koome said the suspect was due to be arraigned in court and will be charged with murder.

“The girl has been arrested and is in custody. She will go to court for the wrong she has committed,” Koome said.

She was arraigned before a Kibera court on Wednesday. The police asked the court to give them more time to complete investigations. They also told the court they intend to take her for mental examination.

In a press statement, the University of Nairobi’s Wazito Football Club, mourned him as a polished midfielder who was disciplined and committed player since joining the team from Tena FC in 2012.

“Kelvin held Wazito in his heart and gave his all for the betterment of the club and his professional growth,” the club added.

Head coach Francis Xavier, described Mugalla as a quality and professional footballer who had what it takes to play for the national team.

“This is a huge loss. We are depending on him to drive our midfield this season. I think he was on the verge of a breakthrough to a Kenyan Premier League team. In a season or two, he would have been Harambee Stars material,” Xavier said.

He further revealed that they got the shocking news just as they were preparing for training.

“A Kangemi United player who lives nearby called me to confirm the sad news. Everyone was in shock and we stopped the training.”
