Rapper Jay Z's mother ties

American rapper Jay-Z’s mother, Gloria Carter has married her longtime partner Roxanne Wilshire in a grand wedding ceremony in New York City.

The couple exchanged vows on the evening of Sunday, July 2, in a star-studded ceremony attended by Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Tyler Perry, and Robin Roberts.

The wedding guests reportedly partied hard at the reception held in Tribeca, with the festivities continuing until around 1am.

As the night came to an end, the newly married couple bid farewell to the party. Gloria looked elegant in a white suit, while Roxanne stunned in a glamorous gold and white shimmering dress.

Jay-Z has been very supportive of Gloria since she came out as a lesbian in his 2017 track “Smile”. In the song, she spoke about ‘living in the shadows’ as a gay woman.

“Mama had four kids, but she’s a lesbian/Had to pretend so long that she’s a thespian/Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate/Society shame and the pain was too much to take,” he rapped. “Cried tears of joy when you fell in love/Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her/I just wanna see you smile through all the hate/Marie Antoinette, baby, let ’em eat cake.”

Jay-Z also revealed in an interview with David Letterman on the Netflix series ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction’ that he shed tears of joy when he learned that his mother had found love.
