Senegal have won the 2021 edition of the African Cup of Nations.
In a final that was billed a Mohammed Salah versus Sadio Mane affair, the two ‘best teams’ at this year’s took a final step to continental glory but only one of them could emerge champions.
Sadio Mane missed a penalty in the opening minutes in the first half and the game dragged on for a gruesome 120 minutes with either team failing to find the back of the net.
Penalty shootout was then required and Mane who missed a penalty earlier on, scored the crucial penalty that crowned Senegal as champions.
The game was too beautiful to watch. And I love the way Senegal defeated Egypt. The Egyptian felt that they were good at penalty; but they were dead wrong. Senegal showed them that they are good at it as well. Congratulations to the Senegalese.
