A video making rounds online shows commuters walking through waist-deep dirty water in New York as heavy rain caused flash flood.

Several subway stations were reportedly flooded after the rain which left New Yorkers with no choice but to walk through the filthy water in order to get to the platform.

According to reports, the No. 1 station at Broadway and 157th Street in Manhattan suffered the most as the station’s lower level was quickly flooded with water.

A Washington Heights resident, who described the flood as really disgusting said, “It was filthy water. Completely opaque, a dark gray green with bits of rubble floating in it”.

An eyewitness, identified as Paulee Wheatley-Rutner, 31, also commented saying, “People were pacing back and forth deliberating whether they were going to brave the waters or not”.

“Most didn’t, but some did,” he added.
