“That the world may know that greatness can be found in the most unlikely places”

The above statement has proven to be true following the ascent of a chess prodigy in a popular ‘hood’ in Lagos.

In a true-life story that would really become a hit if retold in the Nollywood/Hollywood industry, a teenager known as Adeoye Fawaz has risen like ashes from a phoenix to touch the blue sky.

Fawaz works as a ‘teen bus conductor’ and he has lived his years under Oshodi Bridge but on the 14th of December, 2021, Christmas came early for Fawaz as he became the overall champion in both Chess and Mental maths in a competition created by Tunde Onakoya.

There is no doubt whatsoever that Fawaz’ life is about to change for the better because donations are already coming in to fund his education and indeed, that of his fellow contestants. This is the stuff of dreams.

In addition to the cash prize and other goodies he’s won, Dr. Adeola Olubamiji, the founder of StemHub has declared her intention to send him the sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira.

She tweeted ;

I would like to send him 200K prize. If he ever needs support, my husband was a chess champion from Mushin and represented Nigeria in international competitions. He attended OAU & Yaba Tech on scholarships. We can support him with what we can. Let’s get him off the streets!
