In a thought-provoking TikTok video, a user has stirred controversy by claiming that no government school, particularly those in Lagos, is capable of producing intelligent students.
The TikToker shared her firsthand experience during a teaching practice, which led her to this conclusion.
According to the TikToker, while conducting a revision session with SS3 (senior secondary) students, she was astounded by their inability to accurately transcribe what she dictated.
Shocked by their poor performance, she sought guidance from one of their regular teachers, only to be advised to write on the board for the students to copy instead of dictating.
The TikToker went on to express her disappointment, labeling government school teachers as mere babysitters.
Her remarks have sparked a heated debate on the state of public education in Lagos and raised questions about the quality of instruction and learning outcomes in government schools.
Her claims has ignited discussions on social media platforms, with users sharing their own experiences and opinions on the matter.
Some reacted with sentiment, citing inadequate resources, overcrowded classrooms, and a lack of qualified teachers as contributing factors to the decline in educational standards.
However, others have come to the defense of government schools, highlighting successful alumni who emerged from these institutions as proof that intelligence can indeed be nurtured within their walls.
As the debate rages on, the TikToker’s claim has brought about debate and the urgent need for improvement in the public educational sector.
