A young lady has taken to social media to share her opinion on the cr@zy thing that Nigerians have come to normalize.
According to her, having three jobs and calling it normal is one of them; questioning if one would not be burned out. Secondly, working from morning until night and not be able to afford basic things. Third is the fact that parents expect their children to be financially independent immediately after school. Fourth is spending hours on the road while going to work every single day, not being able to go on a vacation because you are sc@red that something might go wrong, young people feeling guilty for resting, knowing somebody before the person is able to access certain opportunities, needing a skill or experience to be employed despite spending years in higher institution to obtain a degree.
She critiqued Nigerians for not only normalizing these survival mentality but for embracing it without questions. The comment sections across social medias were followed by concurring and different opinions and experiences:
ademola_majesty As a fresh graduate in 2020, I was asked to bring ₦500,000 just so I could become a staff at the commission where I served. 💔
iamdhannyfrosh 3 jobs ,for which country abeg,Omo you guys should be factual,an average job is already 9-5 ,so where do you want to see the other time to do 3 jobs, you have to be realistic and specific,if you’re into freelancing ehn ehn,you work for international companies ehnn ehnn.
tenovertenautos I tried explaining to a 25yr old Nigeria the quality of life Nigeria is depriving him of and he still couldn’t understand it. Like how do you think spending 3hrs in traffic is normal and paying light bill, but still putting budget for fuel for generator and its repairs.

@debiichris_ We’ve normalized surviving, not living. 😭🇳🇬 Some things Nigerians call “normal” deserve to be questioned. #naija #nigerianyouth ♬ original sound – Debiichris
