Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has promised that he will not allow another long Academic Staffs Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.
The union announced the suspension of the 9-month old industrial action at a press conference held Wednesday morning in Abuja.
ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who led other National Executive Committee of the union to the event where he made the announcement, explained that the suspension takes effect from today, Wednesday 23, 2020.
The decision to suspend the action, according to Ogunyemi, followed the resolution to that effect by NEC at its meeting held earlier.
The minister during his appearance at Channels TV, revealed his children are also in Nigerian public universities hence the reason why he won’t allow such to repeat himself again.
”I won’t give ASUU opportunity to go on strike again. I would not because I have three biological children who suffered from the lingering strike. I also have about fifteen people who are on my scholarship in Nigerian universities. My three biological children are here in Nigerian universities even though two of them have American citizenship, and can go to America to enjoy free education. I am committed, even more than some of the ASUU members.” he said
The Inspector -General of Police, Mohammad Adams, on Thursday, reeled out fresh instructions and security measures targeted at peaceful Christmas and new year celebrations by Nigerians.
The IGP in a statement has announced that citizens should not flaunt their personal wealth on social media.
Adamu has also directed operatives to provide coverage for Nigerians on major highways, airports, railway stations, recreational centres, motor – parks, places of worship, financial institutions, etc to ensure crime-free yuletide celebrations.
“The IGP gave the directives to all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of Zonal and State Commands nationwide to ensure a peaceful celebration.”
“The IGP equally directed the Strategic Officers to ensure massive deployment of intelligence and other operational assets of the Force particularly on major highways, airports, railway stations, recreational centres, motor – parks, places of worship, financial institutions, etc”
“They are also to ensure that personnel deployed are adequately supervised for utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties. He warned that acts bordering on indiscipline, extortion and intimidation of travellers and other road users will not be condoned.”
While congratulating Christians in the country as they join other Faithfuls across the globe to celebrate the symbolic anniversary of the Birth of Christ, the IGP expressed profound appreciation to all Nigerians for their support to the Police and other security agencies in the fight against crimes in the country. He assured improved police service delivery and security generally in the incoming year, 2021.”
“Meanwhile, the IGP enjoined Nigerians to take precautionary measures to reduce exposure to security risks and the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed that citizens should avoid night travels, over-speeding, over-loading, stopping on lonely highways and unnecessary flaunting of personal details/wealth on social media. Citizens are also enjoined to voluntarily adhere to the COVID-19 prevention regulations and protocols to prevent further spread of the virus.”

A Nigerian lady identified as Amarachi Reginald has taken to social media to reveal how someone gifted her a N2 million after she cried out over not getting anything for Christmas.

Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele-Bello, has opened up about her relationship with her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, aka JJC Skillz while revealing that she extends the olive branch when there is a disagreement between them.
The actress who recently released her latest project, Omo Ghetto The Saga, made this statement during an interview session on the programme Your View which airs on TVC.
“When we have disagreements, I apologise first. You know me; it is mouth that I have. I will say everything and just let it go and my anger span is very short but Abdul’s own is longer, so, he takes his time before he gets angry. Abdul does not get angry easily, he takes things easy.
“And Abdul knows how to communicate better; so, if I am having issues with someone I am working with, I usually go and report the person to him. I ask him, ‘what do we do now because you know that I don’t know how to talk o.’ Then he tells me to calm down and goes to talk to the person,” the ace actress said.

A young man identified as Dare Williams, who was recently arrested for snatching a vehicle from a hailing service driver, confessed that he went into armed robbery because he was desperate to gather enough money to pay Davido or Runtown to feature in his own album.
According to police report, 23-year-old Williams, who is a student of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka,, lured his friend, Bethel Chukwuocha, 18, to snatch the Toyota Corolla car from the driver, Clement Aniegbe, on Monday night December 21. Armed with a kitchen knife, the suspects ordered a ride from Lekki to Gbagada. While on their way to their supposed destination, they threatened the driver with the weapon and carted away his car and mobile phone.
Wiliams who claimed he had gone around seeking help to raise money for his music project, said his plan was to sell the vehicle for a million naira and use the money to advance his music career.

The Federal Government has declared Friday, December 25, Monday, December 28, and Friday, January 1, 2021, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year Celebrations respectively.
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, announced this in a statement released today December 23. He felicitated with Christians and all Nigerians both at home and abroad on this year’s Christmas and New Year Celebrations.
The statement which was signed on behalf of the Minister by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore reads in part
“We must emulate the life of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace and righteousness that the birth and Ministry of Jesus Christ signified, that will be the best way to know Christ and celebrate his birth.”
The Minister noted that peace and security are critical factors needed to enable the Government to accomplish its mission of revitalizing the economy, improving Foreign Direct Investment as well as generating employment opportunities for over 100 million Nigerian youths in the next 10 years.
He appealed to Nigerians and Christians in particular, to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 protocols and guidelines, as stipulated by relevant authorities, during and after the yuletide, especially with the second wave of the outbreak of the disease.

According to reports, Two hundred couples got married same day at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Uzoakwa, Ihiala in Ihiala Council Area in Anambra State.

New reports are telling of how the relationship between estranged Big Brother Naija lovers, Mercy Eke and Ike Onyema allegedly hit the rocks over Ike’s friendship with Tacha and Nengi.
According to Nigerian blogger, Cutie Jullz, Mercy Eke, Ike, Nengi all went for BBNaija auditions two years ago, but only Ike and Mercy got selected.
During the audition, Nengi and Ike became cool friends with each other, and exchanged contacts. Nengi reportedly kept in touch with Ike and Mercy separately and during her own time in the house, she informed Ike that she was selected.
She reportedly called Mercy but Mercy didn’t pick her calls. Cutie Julz claims that Mercy was not comfortable with her boyfriend’s friendship with Tacha, and when Nengi left the house, Ike’s friendship with her became an issue too.
Mercy also allegedly complained about Nengi not being herself and trying to copy her game, and her boyfriend bringing up Nengi in their chats and discussions.

Former reality TV star, Khafi Kareem melted the hearts of her followers recently when she took to her page to shower encomium on her bestie from the 2019 BBNaija show, Tacha as she marks 25th birthday today.

Ace Nigerian musician, David Adeleke better known as Davido, took to social media recently to introduce to his followers the institution of learning, Adeleke University which belongs to his billionaire father.
Davido’s father, Adedeji Adeleke is the founder and president of Adeleke University located in a serene and nature-friendly atmosphere in the historic town of Ede, Osun State.
The singer recently took to his social media page to promote the family business, where he wrote,

A video making the rounds on social media shows the moment a corps member moved her mother to tears as she gave emotional speech while praising her after returning from NYSC camp.
The young lady who proudly wore her full NYSC uniform, marched towards her mother then saluted her, saying: “Three hearty cheers to my mother for single-handedly raising me, training me, sending me to school till I became a corper.”
The mother could not contain her emotions and she was moved to tears as seen in the video.
