“All you see in Igbo movies are true” – Nigerian lady recounts how her late father’s kinsmen hijacked his corpse (video)

A Nigerian lady identified as @ijayy_ on Twitter, has taken to her page to recount the events surrounding the burial of her father.

The lady likened the sad events to Igbo movies as she claims that everything one sees in the movies are real and in fact worse.

According to Ijayy, three graves were dug just to bury her father, adding that his kinsmen hijacked his corpse and refused burying him in his land because it is a “virgin” land.

Her post on Twitter reads ;

Well it’s supposed to be my dad’s burial today. But his own brothers and kinsmen just hijacked his corpse:

It’s literally the third grave that has been dug. Just to bury one man.

For two months I haven’t been able to talk about my dad’s death or grieve because I’ve been busy fighting or quarreling or going for village meetings because of little things that should not matter. Because girls like me should not have opinions about things like this.

For two months I haven’t been able to talk about my dad’s death or grieve because I’ve been busy fighting or quarreling or going for village meetings because of little things that should not matter. Because girls like me should not have opinions about things like this.

Because why would someone with a vagina hold the mortuary tally. Because after my dad’s brothers abandoned his corpse and left it lying there in my living room I took him to the mortuary. Because his wife and children should not have a say when it comes to burial plans or where

He is to be buried. After my recent experiences, I almost wish I wasn’t a woman. Because now my mum, my siblings and my late dad are suffering because of it. Previously, people have asked me why I hate Igbo culture and people, this is why, people who constantly make you feel..

I don’t have words anymore.. Igbo tradition is sick. Being from the same bloodline does not make you family. And all you see in Igbo movies are true, in fact it’s worse actually. I take solace in the fact that that’s not really my dad, just his earthly home/host.

Imagine refusing to bury my father on his own piece of land. Because it’s a virgin land, against his wishes, against his wife & children’s wishes. Imagine the effrontery! Telling people how to use their own property. Hijacking a man’s burial to preserve land that’s not yours

Hopefully the end of this thread. In 2020. I’m actually fine, I promise.

The heart of man is truly wicked, who can know it? Worst part of all of this is they fooled me. They apologized and they begged my mum in the presence of the DPO and Rev. Father and we foolishly forgave them. I let them fool me into releasing the corpse.

They just used me for the parts they could not do. Pretended, made me believe they actually wanted a “peaceful burial” Convinced me to drop legal action, to come back home, to carry his picture around the village and to go ahead with the burial in spite of the police situation.

I feel a fool. Before you marry Igbo men, learn about their cultures, once you marry traditionally you cannot escape them. If you have daughters,I honestly don’t know what to tell you, because lawyers or the police can’t really save them. You have to, make sure you save them

My dad never believed his family hated us, he always tried to unite us. But we always felt the hate, out of 7 sons he was the only one with biological children, 2 girls & a boy. It did not sit right with them and all our lives we’ve had to deal with the utter dislike. I really hope there’s a God, and he’s listening. She added.

“It was meant for the poor and special vulnerable groups” – Kwara State Govt speaks on looted COVID-19 palliatives in the state on looted

The Kwara State Government has broken silence on the COVID-19 palliatives, that was looted after suspected hoodlums broke into a warehouse around the Ilorin International Airport.

In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Communications, Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin, the remaining palliatives in the warehouse were meant for vulnerable groups and one local government as others have already got their own shares.

The statement reads,

“The attack by some hoodlums on the cargo terminal in Ilorin to prey on palliatives meant for the poor is condemnable, inexplicable, and does not reflect the good nature of the people of the state,”

The Commissioner said the CACOVID and the state government had since distributed majority of the palliatives to the identified vulnerable households in 15 of the 16 local government areas of the state.

The remaining palliatives in the terminal, which the hoodlums preyed on until chased away by security agencies, were meant for special vulnerable groups and just one local government where names of the beneficiaries have just been delivered and officials have started distributing when the street urchins breached the wall of the facility

It would be recalled that the CACOVID and the state government had since September 23rd flagged off the distribution of the palliatives. But it was meant for specific households, as dictated by CACOVID, and so names had to be properly generated to allow for transparent and orderly distribution.

The actions of the hoodlums are condemnable and those already arrested would face the full weight of the law. The government would not tolerate anyone hiding under any guise to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the state. The government commends the security agencies for acting with restraint in the face of provocation by the hoodlums.”

Ex-Gulder Ultimate Search winner, Dominic Mudabai and wife welcome baby boy

Ex-Gulder Ultimate Search winner, Dominic Mudabai and wife, Tope, have welcomed their first child, a baby boy.

The proud new dad took to his social media page to share the good news.

Read his post below ;

Dear Son,

We live in a time when no one wants to take the responsibility to say what’s right and what’s wrong,
when no one wants to be told what to believe or what not to believe, when people want to have titles but not work or be responsive to their functions, when people lack a sense of duty, where the lunatics have taken over the asylum and the doctors are the ones in straight jacket. You will come to realize that the world we have made is also the world we have failed.

You have made your way into this world. I want you to be a man of good heart, who reaches out to the world around him with an open mind and a gentle touch, I want you to be a man of belief but not a man of judgement, I want you to choose always to speak with empathy, caring and kindness no matter your voice or purpose, I want you to serve as a shepherd first and then a king, hold honor and truth at all times and never forget the son of whom you are as you journey to finding your rightful place in this world.

To be such a man, you must not be afraid to be vulnerable in times when it is required of you to stand up and to speak from your heart, you should create a place in your heart to hear voices that speak with empathy, compassion and realism about the issues of becoming a man.

And so I take my place among those attempting to provide such a voice as I watch with eager anticipation and anxiousness as you take your every step to finding your place amid the confusion and cacophony of life.

Having you brought clarity and an earnest wonder that has set me on a course that I think will reenergize my years to come, it showed me that I could, and should, indeed I must be my best self and like a wise and gentle friend, I will guide you to the truths that emerge when you approach life openly and honestly.

On this journey to you knowing God (which is a life-long journey), learning to love, living life, passing through the stages of manhood and the wisdom that comes thereof, God will encapsulate you and order your every step, you will always be a blessing of grace, your mother will be with you, I will hold your hand and guide you through your decisions. So help me God.

Yours Truly,

Daddy.”

#LekkiMassacre: DJ Switch reveals the mistake they made after the shootings at Lekki toll gate

Female Dj, DJ Switch who went live during the shooting of protesters at Lekki toll gate, has finally broken silence following the incident.

In a new video, DJ Switch gave a detailed account of what happened that night, and the biggest mistake she made.

“I just want to clear a few things that I’ve been seeing online. To our leaders, I urge you please do not minimize the suffering of families. Do not insult the grief of Nigerians, do not insult the intelligence of Nigerians. Do not insult the pain that families are facing. People were falling left and right.

Yes there were soldiers there. Another part that people are not really talking about. The police also came, the SARS people we’re talking about also came minutes after the soldiers left. They were tear gassing. It’s like cotonou pepper. Our coconut head generation. They will run and they will come back.

They switched off the lights and it was pitch black. While the soldiers were running around and picking their shells, we were running around and picking their shelves too. The police and SARS were also there, aiming and shooting. Who takes life bullets to a protest? Who does that?”

“Buhari’s speech contains avoidable gaps” – Femi Falana (SAN)

Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has criticized President Buhari’s speech following the #EndSARS protests and military shooting Lekki toll gate.

According to Falana, Buhari’s speech to Nigerians contained avoidable gaps, like where he accused the international community of jumping into hasty conclusions over the shooting of unarmed peaceful protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate.

Speaking to Punch he said, “The presidential speech contained some avoidable lacunae. For instance, the President accused the international community of jumping into hasty conclusions with respect to the Lekki shootings.

“My worry is that the President would be embarrassed at the end of legal inquiry into the military invasion of the Lekki toll gate as the number of the unarmed protesters that were mowed down and the circumstances of the barbaric attack by the soldiers from a particular military barrack in Victoria Island would be exposed.

“It was good that the President consoled the families of the police personnel who unfortunately lost their lives in the course of duty. Similar presidential condolences ought to have been extended to the families of the unarmed protesters who were brutally murdered in Ogbomoso, Ibadan, Benin, Lagos etc. I want to believe that the President was not informed that unarmed protesters were slain in the premeditated attacks by police and military personnel.

“However, the President reiterated the point that the voice of the protesters had been heard loud and clear and that the Federal Government is committed to addressing the outstanding demands. Specifically, the President announced that the emoluments of police officers would be reviewed upwards. That is a concession of one of the key demands of the protesters.”
