The government of Edo has declared a 24-hour curfew following the violence that led to a jailbreak at a correctional facility in Benin, capital of the state.
In a statement, Osarodion Ogie, secretary to the state government, said the curfew will remain across the state “till further notice”.
Ogie said hoodlums have hijacked the #EndSARS protest and the government would not allow continuous attacks.
“The curfew is to take effect from 4pm, October 19, 2020. This decision has become necessary because of the very disturbing incidents of vandalism and attacks on private individuals and institutions by hoodlums in the guise of #ENDSARS protesters,” the statement read.
“While the government of Edo State respects the rights of its citizens to undertake legitimate protests, it cannot sit idly when hoodlums have taken laws into their hands to cause mayhem on innocent citizens and the state.
“By the directive, schools and businesses are to shut down activities accordingly. Those who cannot move safely are to stay put between now and 4pm till calmness is restored.
“Parents are advised to rein in their children, youths and wards, to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
“The responsibility of government is to protect lives and property and maintain law and order, therefore, anyone found outside in violation of the curfew would be dealt with according to the law.”
Popular Nigerian singer, Reekado Banks has unfollowed Wizkid on Instagram, few days after the star boy blasted him on Twitter.
Recall that, Wizkid blasted his junior colleague, Reekado for announcing a release of an ‘old song’ the both of them recorded.

Wizkid shockingly dragged Reekado and told him the timing was not right.
Wizkid tweeted,
“Delete this dude ! Can’t believe you’re even doing this at a time like this. Old song ! #endsars fool!”
In another tweet he called him a “clout animal”.
However, following the comments of the smile crooner on Twitter, a look at Reekado’s Instagram page, shows that he has unfollowed Wizkid on the photo sharing platform, and the realization has stirred up reactions amongst their fans on social media.

In other news, Popular Nigerian billionaire, Terry Waya has reacted to the ongoing nationwide protest against Police brutality.
The flamboyant moneybag advised #EndSARs protesters to stay off the streets and allow the government do what they have promised.
Read as he posted on Instagram below…
“My fellow protesters and supporters am fully with you in this battle to end not only SARS but all forms of brutality and oppression whether military or government, we have made our feelings and case known, we have spoken with one voice but let us allow peace to reign by leaving the streets and allow the government implement what they have promised to do, God bless all of us” he wrote.
A Nigerian lady identify as @khemie200 on Twitter has taken to the platform to narrate her horrible encounter with SARS operatives in the year 2010.
She revealed that she was dragged into a bus by SARS officers while waiting for a cab in front of LUTH.
The Twitter user who revealed that she was at LUTH to sort out her induction gown, alleged that the SARS officers accused her of being a yahoo boy’s (online fraudster) girlfriend.
She further revealed that the security operatives assaulted her with the bottom of their guns even after showing them the receipt of her induction gown.
Read her traumatic experience below;
“Finally summoned courage to share my SARS story: One day back in 2010, SARS picked me up in front of Luth while I was waiting for a cab. I just graduated from Uni and it was a few days to induction(graduation). I came to LUTH to sort out my induction gown.
We lived off ogunlana drive back then. My dad called me that he wanted to come pick me up cos he was feeling a certain kind of way about my safety and I was like “daddy luth to ogunlana is a stone throw, I’m a big girl now, let me take a cab .. see you soon, love you!” As soon as we hung up, my phone battery died…..
While waiting for the cab in front of luth, these SARS guys came with their bus. They picked me up along with some other guys and threw me into their bus. They immediately started saying “Na yahoo yahoo boy girlfriend see her face, she’s one of them”.
I was in shock. Gun pointed at me. I started crying , “sir I’m not a yahoo boy’s girlfriend, I’m a Doctor I just graduated i came for my gown” I was screaming and crying. They asked for my phone, the battery was dead and they asked me why I put it off…they said I was hiding something. Unfortunately I had no ID on me but I had the receipt for the gown which I showed them…. The receipt of the graduation gown I showed them made absolutely no difference.
Two of them started using the bottom of their guns to hit me, I was screaming and crying. Some of the other guys in the bus were also being dealt with but I think it’s my screams and cries that irritated them so much that they started beating me.
When we got to ojuelegba, they threw me out of the fast moving bus. I had nothing on me, I walked from Ojuelegba to Ogunlana, crying and wailing.
I was just glad they dropped me, I was happy they didn’t shoot me or take me somewhere to harm me. I was one of the lucky ones. …. by the way this event happened around 2pm in the afternoon…
I still remember the beating!!! Hurt like hell.. I was just in my early 20s. I still have PTSD from the events of that day. It was a few days to my induction after 6years in school and these guys could have just ended my life for absolutely no reason.
It’s sad. It was then I understood why my father always prayed for each one of us every morning before going out. It was then I understood why my dad dropped and picked me up everyday from school everyday till I graduated from Uni.
The man was always scared of so many uncertainties. All I thought then was he was being over protective….. we need to #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSWAT #EndSarsNow #sorosoke
I’ve tried everyday of my life to suppress this memory like it never happened. That’s why it’s taken so long to share my story….
Reading people’s stories now, I realized. I was very lucky. I had bruises but not gunshot wound… now I don’t want my children going through this.”
Search engine giant, Google has introduced a new feature that allows you to identify a song even if you don’t know the lyrics.
A user can now either hum, sing or whistle the tune into your phone and the name of the song will pop up.
The technology to match tones to a database of identified songs through singing, humming and whistling —instead of from lyrics alone— has existed for more than a decade, and was a staple in the music app, SoundHound as far back as 2009.
To start using Google’s new feature, open the latest version of the Google app or Google Search widget on your phone, then, tap the Microphone icon and say “what’s this song?” You can also tap the Search a song button, then start humming, singing or whistling the tune to get your results.
Google announced the new feature on Thursday, October 15, and has started rolling it out globally to iPhone and Android users. It’s currently available in English for iPhone users and in more than 20 languages on Android.
This new tool only works on mobile devices, so at this time, it won’t work on your Google Home or Nest speakers.

The Nigerian Army has said the anticipated routine exercise tagged ”Operation Crocodile Smile VI” is not going to disrupt any ‘Lawful’ #EndSars protest.
In a bold statement that was shared across various social media websites, the Nigerian Army said the exercise had nothing too do with the protest.
Read below ;
1. The attention of the Nigerian Army (NA) has been drawn to some social media stuff wrongfully condemning the Army and its Leadership over the announcement of Exercise CROCODILE SMILE VI particularly the Cyber Warfare Component of the Exercise. This year’s Exercise CROCODILE SMILE is scheduled to commence from the 20th of October to the 31st of December 2020 has no relationship with any lawful protest under any guise whatsoever.
2. For the records, Exercise CROCODILE SMILE is a yearly exercise in the NA Calendar/Forecast of Events which traditionally holds from October to December of each year.
3. Thus, to now insinuate that it is an exercise meant to stifle the ongoing ENDSARS protest is to say the least highly misinformed. Exercise CROCODILE SMILE VI has nothing to do with the ongoing protest and the NA has never been involved in the ongoing protest in any form whatsoever. So far, the army has acted professionally since the civil protest started over two weeks ago.
4. The army hereby enjoins all law abiding Nigerians to go about their lawful activities unhindered as the Exercise has nothing to do with ENDSARS protest, but a yearly event set out to train NA officers and soldiers in its efforts to ensuring safety and security of Nigeria and her citizens.

The ongoing #EndSARS protest has resulted to the rescheduling of National Examination Council Paper I Computer Studies Practical, to a later date.
In a statement released by the Head, Information and Public Relations Division, NECO, Azeez Sani, the Computer Studies Practical that was scheduled to hold today, October 19th, has been rescheduled to November 16th.
According to the statement, the examination was postponed because the #EndSARS protest had affected the supply of examination materials.
The statement reads,
This is to inform the general public and especially candidates that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been constrained to reschedule the Paper I Computer Studies Practical’s earlier scheduled to take place on Monday 19 October 2020, 10 am to 1 pm. The examination of this paper will now hold on Monday 16 November 2020, 10 am-1 pm.
This unforeseen incident has been caused by the ENDSARS protest that blocked the free movement of transport at the City entrance gate Benin.
The NECO delivery truck had left its take-off point well in advance two days earlier to deliver examination materials to some states and has been held up in the blockage since then.
The Council wishes to assure all stakeholders and the general public that the affected examination materials have been retrieved intact and are in the custody of NECO’s vault.
While regretting any inconveniences this rescheduling may cause our esteemed stakeholders, the Council has however taken this decision in order to maintain the integrity and security of its examinations procedures for seamless conduct of the Council’s examination.

Reacting to the allegations leveled against him, Mr Tranquility as he is fondly called by his fans, denied it saying it is all FALSE.
He tweeted;
“The news making rounds online is completely false and should be treated as such. I am for a good Nigeria and an end to police brutality. I have been out almost every other day in Lagos protesting alongside concerned Nigerian youths. #EndSARS”.

Popular Nigerian Singer, Simi, has taken to her social media page to seemingly speak against the idea of #EndSars protesters appointing representatives to dialogue with the Government.
According to the mother-of-one, the Government should be open enough to speak to everyone via a press conference.
Her post on Twitter reads ;
I don’t know how I feel about having appointed representatives. I know the intent is good, but I believe that whatever the Nigerian Govt wants to say, they should say to everyone. Organize press conference and talk to all of us, cos this shoe is pinching everybody differently.
If we choose anyone, it’s not far fetched to assume that they will automatically be burdened with the responsibility of the outcome of this movement. Divided we scatter.
At least 234 million naira has been lost by the Lagos statement government, owing to the closure of tollgates in the Lekki area of Lagos as the #EndSARS protests continue.
However, LASG has continued to generate money from adverts at the toll plazas, The Punch reports.
The figure was collated from the daily and monthly targets set for the government-owned tollgates, which are being managed by the Lekki Concession Company.
A Lagos State commissioner told The Punch that the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge was expected to generate about N10m daily, while the Admiralty Circle Plaza along the Lekki-Epe Expressway was looking at an expected daily revenue of no less than N16.6m.
He said the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge was not expected to generate less than N300m monthly, while the Admiralty Circle Plaza generates about N500m monthly.
“At least 80,000 cars use the tollgates every day. The figure could be higher or lower depending on the day of the week. However, since the protests started, the Lekki tollgate has been completely shut, while the Ikoyi one has been left permanently open for people to use without payment,” the commissioner said.
SUV’s pay N250 at the Admiralty Toll Plaza, while saloon also known as Sedan cars pay N200.
Whereas, at the Ikoyi-Link Bridge, toll for SUVs, mini vans and light trucks is N400.
Heavy duty trucks/buses with two or more heavy axles pay N1,000 at the Admiralty Circle Plaza on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, according to the LCC.
Billionaire heiress and disc jockey, Cuppy has finally joined other #EndSARS protesters, clamoring for a reform of the Nigerian Police Force.
The singer who recently staged a lone protest in her home, has now come out to join other protesters.
Sharing photos from the protest ground, Cuppy expressed how glad she feels to be a part of history.
She wrote,
I went out to protest not to please people but because I NEED tell my children that I was part of history. “Lazy” Nigerian youth are changing this country for generations to come and as a 27 year old, I couldn’t be prouder… The atmosphere was an experience I will NEVER forget! ✊??? #EndSars.
Recall that, she had earlier stated that she had been inspired by young Nigerians risking their lives these past days to ensure the government hearkens to their voices.
Popular Nigerian thespian, Samuel Perry otherwise known as Broda Shaggi recently suffered extortion at the hands of touts who blocked his part and damaged his expensive car.
According to a social media user who shared a clip of the bizarre event, the comedian who was visibly upset, was on his way to the Lekki Toll Gate protest when his path got blocked by the touts.
Read the post shared ;
Bro Shaggi’s car was attacked by protesters at 5:30pm on Lekki epe express way, before Lagos Business school.
His car windshield, Side Mirror, Back Light was broken with many scratch. He was on his way back to Lekki Toll gate to protest.
He had to pay 10K before he was allowed to go. I believe this protest is for all of us and not to inconvenience ourselves
Seun Kuti, one of the sons of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, expressed his reservations with the end SARS protest.
He stated that the demands made by Nigerian youths in the #5for5 list of demands is “too weak” which is why he’s reluctant to get involved in the current protest.
“It’s like we’re fighting for police to live a better life,” he said.
He further stated that police are adults and if they are not satisfied with their salary, they can protest or go on strike.
He added: “It is not the duty of Nigerians to fight for police to have better salary. If police don’t like their salary and welfare, let them strike and protest.”
He also said that an increase in salary is not the solution to police corruption.
“Increasing police salary will not stop police corruption,” he said.
He continued: “If money dey stop corruption, why our politicians still dey thief?”
He went on to say that it appears the average Nigerian is fighting for the issue that affects them, which is police brutality, because they want to freely drive their Benz without being harrassed. But they do not seem to care about the problems that affect poorer Nigerians.
He said that SARS is not our only problem, adding that NURTW boys collect money from market women, okada riders, and bus drivers everyday and no one is fighting for them. Seun said a call to end the harrassment these poor Nigerians face from these NURTW boys who extort money from them needs to be included in the list of demands, instead of advocating for an increase in police salary.
“Everybody is being extorted at every level in this country every day.”
He called the #5for5 “useless demands” and said no one can drag him to the current agitation because the demands are not serious enough.
Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, has called for the suspension of #EndSARS protest to allow the government take action.
Akeredolu stated this on Sunday, October 18, during a visit to his Osun State counterpart, Governor Gboyega Oyetola at the Government House, Osogbo, following an attack on him by suspected thugs in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital on Saturday.
Governor Akeredolu who had earlier condemned the attack by suspected hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSars protest, describing it as most disturbing, said everyone must come together and condemn the attack.
He appealed to the protesting youths to suspend the protest for now and allow Government look into their demands.
Declaring his support for the #EndSars protest and the right of the people to protest, the Governor expressed worry that the genuine youths have been infiltrated by hoodlums who are ready to hijack the peaceful protest to unleash violence.
”Yesterday’s incident was most disturbing. It was unfortunate. It’s a development that all of us must condemn. it’s mostly an act of terrorism. When I saw it, I felt very bad. I felt I should come today to solidarize with you. We thank God for sparing your life. Valuables must have been lost, but we thank God for your life,” he said.
The Governor also commended the security team of Governor Oyetola for being able to handle the situation despite the attack.
“We thank God for the security team of the Governor for being able to manage the situation. It could have led to something else but for the way the Governor’s security team handled the situation,”
Akeredolu said: “The agitation of the #Endsars protesters is right , and we are not saying it’s unfounded, if I have my way I would be with them every other day. What they are protesting is what Fela Anikulapo called Sorrow, Tears and Blood. We are not condemning #EndSars demonstration. But for now, why don’t we suspend it and allow government to take actions.
“I appeal to the youths on the street to give government time. You can give us ultimatum. I want to use this medium to appeal to them. Their rank and file is being infiltrated by thugs and hoodlums. When people hijack #EndSars protest, it could be catastrophic. What happened in Osun can not be protest. It should be condemned. I’m happy my brother is alive and well.” he added.
Responding, Governor Oyetola said the #EndSars protest has gone beyond what’s expected, adding that although protest is legitimate but hoodlums and political thugs have hijacked it from the genuine youths.
The #EndSars movement have lost yet another protester to the cold hands of death and it has thrown Nigerian Twitter in mourning.
The young man who was identified as Anthony Onome fell victim to the brutal attacks on peaceful protester by thugs who were deemed to have been sponsored by the Government.
Anthony Onome is being hailed as a HERO and Nigerians are saying he would never be forgotten.
