Big Brother Naija 2020 Housemates Begin Quarantine
A new season of Big Brother Naija is just behind the corners and fans of the show have been eager to know how this year’s season will be, considering the Covid-19 pandemic.
The much-loved reality show that always keeps Africa enthralled every season, will kick off on July 19th for the fifth season.
Recall that when Multichoice announced auditions, the major concern raised was on the precautions taken to ensure the safety of housemates going into the house as well as the production crew.
Well, here are some things you should know about the plans for the incoming housemates ahead of the new season:
- The housemates were selected after a rigorous verification and online sorting of over 30,000 entries.
- Housemates have been on quarantine, in line with the guidelines provided and approved by the NCDC.
- Carefully tested measures have been put in place to ensure minimal contact with outsiders once the housemates enter the house. This includes the ‘ninjas’, who may not be very visible during the show due to COVID-19 realities.
- The main sponsors on the show, sports betting company, BetWay, also revealed a bigger payout for the winner of the show this year as well as other mouth-watering prizes for fans of the show.
- Before the show kicks off, anyone who shows signs of ill health will as expected not to be a part of the show.
- The production crew will work in (socially distanced) shifts.
- There will be no live audience at the Sunday night eviction shows.
- There will also be no unexpected celebrity visits to the house.

O No! OPay has announced it is shutting down ORide, OCar, OExpress.
OPay Nigeria Thursday said it was putting on hold the operations of three of its units – ride-hailing services, ORide and OCar, and logistics service OExpress.
The payment company said harsh business conditions in the country, the ban on the operations of the commercial motorcycles, and the lockdown induced by COVID-19 pandemic badly impacted its businesses.
“Globally, ride-sharing businesses have been heavily impacted by the pandemic,” the company said in a statement on Thursday.
“But several months ago, foreseeing this issue, OPay had already taken steps to restructure our business focus away from rides.”
OPay said it has invested in and enjoying “accelerated growth” and demand for its “offline mobile money agency, and online digital payment.”
It said its offline and online payment operations grew by 44% in the first four months of 2020.
A senior official of the company also told The Guardian on the phone that the e-commerce platform – OMall – will also not be suspended.

“Don’t Send Your Children To School Now If You’re Not Sure Of Their Safety” – FG Urges Parents
The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba has urged parents to resist the temptation to send their wards to school.
Parents will not be compelled to send their children to schools if they are not comfortable with it, the Federal Government has said,
According to the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba said although the Federal Government has reopened schools for students in final year classes, parents who cannot afford to do so now should keep their wards at home.
The Minister said the Federal Government has put adequate measures in place for the safety of students and teachers in public schools across the country.
“We understand the limitations of Nigerians. Most people cannot afford laptops and devices and we know that not all our children have the same access.
“And if there are people who do have this access and who feel confident that their children are ready for these exams, nobody is compelling anybody to go to any school,” he said.

Hushpuppi and Mr. Woodberry extradited to the United States
Suspected Nigerian fraudsters, Ramon Igbalode Abbas a.k.a Hushpuppi and Olalekan Jacon Ponle a.k.a Mr Woodberry have been extradited to the United States.
This was confirmed in a post shared on the official page of the Dubai Police. FBI’s Director, Christopher Wray thanked the Dubai Police for their cooperation in extraditing the Nigerian suspects who were accused of committing multiple money-laundering and cyber crimes.
The Instagram post read;
The Director of the Federatal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Christopher Wray has praised the exceptional efforts exerted by the United Arab Emirate, represented bu the Dubai Police General HQ, in combating transnational organised cybercrime including the recent arrest of Raymod Igbalode Abbas, known as “Hushpuppi” and Olalekan Jacon Ponle aka “Woodberry” who were taken down in operation “Fox Hunt 2”.

Jealous family dog mauls newborn twin girls to death
Newborn twin sisters died after they were savagely attacked by their family dog in Brazil. The premature twin girls — Anne and Analú — were mauled to death by the animal when their mother, Elaine Novais, left them briefly to speak to a neighbor.
According to The Sun, the baby girls died on June 23, the same day they were scheduled to be born by cesarean. But they arrived a month early.
The dog involved in the killing of the twins is Labrador and American Foxhound mix. The animal had been with the family for five years, and has been described usually docile. However, since the arrival of Anne and Analú, the dog became jealous after losing affection from its owners.
The reports claimed on the day of the incident that happened in Piripá, in the northeastern state of Bahia, the 29-year-old mother of the twins rushed to her bedroom where the 26 day-old babies lay after hearing their cries. After reaching the room, she pulled the dog away from the children but the animal had already critically damaged the abdomen of the two.
They were rushed to the hospital, however, doctors said that one of the babies died even before reaching the hospital while the other one suffered a cardiac arrest and the medical team could not save her.

FG announces resumption of Domestic flight; Lagos and Abuja airports to commence operations July 8
The Federal Government has announced the resumption of domestic flights in the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 1st, Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said the Abuja and Lagos airports will resume domestic operations on July 8, while the Kano, Port Harcourt, Owerri, and Maiduguri airports would resume on the 11th.
Other airports are also expected to resume operations on the 15th. Sirika, however, noted that a date for the international airports will be announced in due course.
The Nigerian airspace has been closed since March this year following the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
The statement in part reads
“The flights will commence with the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja and the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
The Port Harcourt , Owerri and Maiduguri airports will reopen to flights on the 11th of July, while other airports across the country will join on the 15th of July.
Passengers looking to travel out of the country will have to wait a bit longer as the dates for the restart of international flights into and out of the country will be announced later.
Passengers are highly advised to follow all the safety guidelines and protocols put in place to ensure that the airports don’t become channels of infection for the dreaded coronavirus.”
Alleged Rape: Police denies detaining D’banj’s accuser, Seyitan
The Nigeria police has denied arresting and detaining Seyitan Babatayo, the lady who accused Nigerian music mogul, D’Banj of raping her at an hotel room in 2018.
On June 18 of this year, it was reported that Seyitan was arrested and detained by Police operatives at Ikeja in Lagos for 24 hours. She was allegedly also denied access to her legal team.
Refuting the claims, a police source who spoke with Vanguard, stated that Seyitan was only invited to give her written statement and be interrogated. Adding that, there may have been a mix up by her legal representative.
The source revealed that both the singer and accuser were invited to the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Abuja, to give written statements and for interrogation.
But on three separate occasions, Seyitan didn’t show up, which prompted the Force CID to dispatch officers to Lagos to invite her for her written statement and interrogation on the alleged rape.

The drama continued on the recent airing of the Big Brother Naija reunion and this time, it was between on and off lovers, Esther and Frodd.
Recall during their time in the house, the pair had a frantic and somewhat undefined relationship, although it was quite obvious that Frodd had a soft spot for Esther.
