Almost hitting the N20 million naira mark in its 2nd week, the movie is poised to beat the ‘Nollywood epic’ jinx in Nigerian cinemas. Nollywood Epic movies perform poorly in comparison to all others in Nigerian cinemas.
The record for highest grossing Nollywood epic was previously held by Emem Isong’s 2016 film, ‘Ayamma’ which grossed a total of approximately 16 million naira at the box office after several weeks.
Interestingly, ‘The Legend of Inikpi’ also holds till date the biggest Nollywood opening weekend of 2020 grossing 7.4 million naira while screening in just 44 cinemas.
The producer who maintains that telling Nigerian stories is her mandate was excited to break the news on Instagram.
“The first reaction to my film was a rude awakening; ‘epic movies don’t sell in Nigerian cinemas’ Honestly, I was terrified when I saw statistics on statistics… I’m humbled to see the love that #TheLegendofInikpi has received in its first week, It’s not the regular blockbuster figures of course but most importantly, it’s a strong validation that we should tell our stories and the people will come and watch them’’
The Legend of Inikpi tells the true story of an Igala princess (Inikpi) who gives her life for the freedom of her people. It features a stellar cast of Nollywood’s finest including Mercy Johnson Okojie, Sam Dede, Odunlade Adekola, Saidi Balogun and newbie Nancy Ameh.

If there’s one thing I admire about Nigerians, it is the fact that we never get caught unawares; except maybe by cameras, and even that is sometimes intentional.
It is no surprise that we are always in tune with trends in our spheres of interest. And when there’s a challenge to put our creative abilities to test and prove how well-adjusted we are, we most certainly would show up to the challenge bringing our A game.
The ‘Styled by Infinix S5’challenge was set in motion shortly after the release of the ingenuous S5. The challenge was centered on testing contestants’ ability to match the beautiful aesthetics of the S5 and make outstanding fashion statements.
As soon as the brand announced the challenge and began to welcome entries via their Social Media pages, entries began to drop in large numbers and we saw Nigerians slaying in their uniquely stylish attires like never before thus causing our eyes to widen in admiration.
There were too many mind-blowing entries that would have made it seemingly impossible for the brand to select a winner should they have contemplated doing that. Hence, Nigerians were given the responsibility of filtering and consequently selecting the winner after 5 weeks of a thrilling activity.
Eventually, the winners have emerged… drum rolls for: Kayode, Stephanie, Jessica, Joseph and Gbadamosi.
L-R: Kayode joshua Oluwarotimi, Stephanie Oduwa Imarhiagbe, Aniekwe Onyinye Jessica, Yakndara Joseph Etim, Gbadamosi Mohammed Adeniran.
These lucky winners all walked away with $1000 wardrobe allowance and were #StyledByInfinixS5.
With several activities organized by the brand over the years, Nigerians have been able to express themselves in different forms including music, dance, creative writing and now fashion.
Having witnessed all these activities, it is clear that Infinix fans stand to enjoy more than durable devices sold at affordable rates, they also get to benefit from initiatives like this which has been strategically aligned with their consumers areas of interests – little wonder mobile phone enthusiast endear the brand.

Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, has said that the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) will compete with the likes of Cable News Network (CNN) if the $500 million loan his ministry is seeking for is approved.
According to The Guardain, the Minister said this when he appeared before the senate committee on local and foreign loans to speak on the importance of the $500 million which is part of the $30 billion loan President Buhari is asking the national assembly to approve.

“If this project is approved, there will be more visibility for our people in the music, fashion and film industries. In 2014, we made $23 million from music alone and about $53 million in 2019 and we are looking forward to making $83 million in 2025.
You can imagine the kind of growth we will have if only we digitise all the NTA stations in the country.” he said
The minister also said the creative industry is a major employer of the youth.
“Apart from agriculture, which is the largest employer of labour in Nigeria, especially the youths, the next largest employer of labour is the creative industry,” he said.

A newly-wed couple is trending on social media after they held their church wedding over the weekend and didn’t have a reception afterwards.
The couple, whose names were simply given as Augustus and Vivian, tied the knot in St. Dennis Catholic Church in Bariga on Saturday, February 8.
After exchanging their vows in the church, the couple shared a souvenir to everyone after Mass and they cut their cake at the exit door of the church and everyone took a piece and went home.
The ceremony ended before 1pm.
A priest shared their photos on Facebook, writing:
“Today’s wedding between Augustus and Vivian in St Denis Catholic Church Bariga was particularly different in a very cool and sweet way. The bride and groom were beautifully dressed. A friend of mine Edith Kush did the make up for the bride. The wedding was done with the bride and the groom exchanging their vows to each other lovingly. That was the highpoint of the whole thing.
“The food and souvenir were beautifully packaged together and were distributed to all that came just immediately after the mass. They had the cutting of the cake just at the exit door of the church. No reception. No hall. No Mc. No DJ. No event planner. No aseobi. No bridal train. Just the essential. Before 1pm everyone was already on their way home and to their other businesses, including the couple. On Sunday they will come for thanksgiving after having consummated the marriage without stress.”
A benevolent man has paid for the medical bills of six stranded new mothers at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana for the new mothers to be released.
According to Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri, the founding editor of Ghanacelebrities.com and Human Rights Advocate, his friend was left heart-wrenched by the state of the women when he arrived in Ghana and visited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Crippled by the disheartening condition of women who had delivered new babies but were being held by the hospital for unpaid bills, his friend donated GHC5,000 (N334,714.54) to defray the debts of the women.
“He paid 5,000 GHS for 6 women he does not know from anywhere—and they were soon discharged,” Chris-Vincent disclosed.
Chris-Vincent added that his friend described ” the joy on the faces of those women, as never seen.”
His friend, however, wondered why the gap between the rich and the poor keeps widening in Ghana without any real government social interventions to cushion the poor.
Chris-Vincent’s kind-hearted friend also quizzed why women after childbirth become stranded in a government hospital because they cannot pay their delivery bills and yet there is a National Health Insurance scheme said to be in place.
Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, has opened up on her failed marriage with estranged husband, Lanre Gentry. The single mom of two left the hotel owner on grounds of domestic violence.
In a new episode sighted on her Youtube channel, she recounted the terrible experience saying;
“The first time the slap came, it felt like I was dreaming. I wasn’t expecting it and I was shocked beyond words. I didn’t know it was going to happen but it happened. The begging would then come after that.
Once a man raises his hand to hit you, he is going to do it over and again. However, because it was my second attempt (at marriage), I was ready to make it work, even with all the violence. I was there hoping and praying. I just wanted a happy home.
“The incident that broke the camel’s back was the one where I almost died. The beating was horrible. People often say actresses don’t want to remain married. Who told them that? (You think) being a celebrity doesn’t make me human? Does (being a celebrity) mean I don’t want to have a happy home?
They say actresses are promiscuous but promiscuity is not (the exclusive preserve of) any profession. When mine (break-up) happened, it wasn’t easy because I am a celebrity. I read a lot of things online. Some people even said I made it up. But, nobody can dictate to me how to live my life.”
TECNO mobile Nigeria played host to a really spectacular talent hunt finale at the FCE Akoka, Yaba on Friday, 7th February, 2020.

– TECNO Spark Ambassador
– One year Internship with TECNO
– One year pocket money from TECNO
– The next TECNO Spark device.
A fashion creative who’s into bag making, a fashion designer, two talented music artistes and an exceptional fine art painter were given the chance to convince judges why they should be winners of those prizes and three out of these five impressed the judges the most.
Seun, Shanex and Prosper have quite a wonderful 2020 ahead of them as they were crowned winners of the prizes from the Tecno SparkIV Talent Hunt.
Ojo Oluwaseun — One of the top three.
Ojo Oluwaseun is a Fashion creative and a FUNAAB student who’s into bag making. She displayed to the judges the ‘tote bags’ she made.
While on the stage, Seun said her bags which are adorable –obviously – and affordable, has made deliveries to states like Enugu, Port Harcourt, Unilag and some other tertiary institutions.
Her industrious talent is certainly why she’d get a pick from the judges. See some of her photos below,
Stephen Maiangwa AKA Shanex OG is a versatile rapper who draws inspiration of his music from his role model Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince Zamani.
Shanex put on quite a show at the event as he thrilled the crowd and the judges, apparently.. with an electrifying freestyle performance that earned him a spot at the top three winners of the event.
Aluu Prosper was one of the major highlights of the event as his exceptional artistic talent really wowed the crowd and the judges.
Prosper showed that not only can he paint but can put on quite a show while doing it… something like, ‘magical painting’.
The young lad took everyone by surprise as he, while on stage made a brief portrait of the late Nelson Mandela and did so not looking at the painting and even more wowing, painted upside down! Talk about talent yeah?!
It’s no doubt that TECNO – as is their usual wont – really hosted an exceptional event at the SparkIV talent hunt. They really gave the crowd a thrill as they blessed them with performances from two of the country’s budding acts, Victor Ad and SlimCase.
Victor AD.Slimcase
TECNO made good sure that the crowd were not left out in takeaway goodies and being a part of the show.

Former Governor of Lagos State and current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has said that most movies churned out by the Nigerian movie industry encourages money ritual and kidnapping.
Fashola, who disclosed this while speaking on the topic ‘Insecurity: Taking actions against organised crime’ at the 4th annual public lecture/symposium organised by the United Action for Change urged filmmakers to change the narrative to save innocent lives.
Fashola added that the claims of a human parts being turned into money is a myth and shouldn’t be reinforced in movies.
He said;
“Some people believe that if you get a man’s head or a woman’s body parts, they could be turned into money. It’s not true! And when you ask people who believe in it if they have seen it happen before, they tell you someone said they had seen it.
“However, it has become a reinforced belief through entertainment, social media and Nollywood. How can human head bring money? Money is paper invented by man, not God. They put the paper in a machine to print what we call money and that is the only place money comes from.
“But the challenge is the belief system. Just think about how many people have been missing – through kidnapping – because some people believe that it exists. The police could tell us the number of people they have apprehended with human parts, such as skulls. This belief system must go.
“Therefore, all of us, including those who make the films, must reverse the story and start selling a new story that money is printed in a machine and not through any other way like money rituals.”
Fashola also stated that claims of women’s panties being used for money rituals is fallacious as there is no connection between paper and cotton.
He added;
“It is not true, or how does that happen? What is the connection between paper (money) and cotton (pants) or has anybody seen cotton money before? Those of us who have influence and authority must take positions to see to the reversal of this kind of beliefs.”
Nigerian actress, Victoria Inyama, has said she has stopped taking her kids to church because, of the negative effects it has on her.
The veteran movie star who recently become a graduate of University of East London made this know through her Instagram page where she stated that going to church and listening to the pastor almost ruined her life.
She wrote: ” Thinking Out Loud… .Dealing with d guilt of not attending church for weeks with my children….I feel childhood induction is one of d worst aspects of Religion…. I know that d bible is a source of good practices on positive training but I don’t want my children to ever tolerate abuse like I did because of ‘Pastor said’ ….. I basically lived/endured Abuse/violence because ‘pastor said MARRIAGE IS ENDURANCE… PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE ?…..I grew up attending church consistently like my life depended on it & reverencing d pastor/man of God..?Narratives & Facts are totally different, some of those narratives translated by some pastors destroys our ability for critical thinking which then affects our ability for logic based analysis of ideas. I don’t want anything that will change their intellectual capacity into a series of Emotional triggers based on wanting to belong, approval, judgement & fear. In Psychology, d illusionary truth effects makes d brain accept narratives it’s been hearing for a long time, e.g, Matt 5v39, I am still in bondage of this verse, makes me look weak when a person offends me & I just let it go……That must end with me, I grew up with that verse & it has been my greatest weakness, I will teach them about God myself & I will tell them to be kind / respectful but never allow anyone take d meeky….Have a blessed week ma lovelies.”

Nollywood actress and mother of two, Mercy Aigbe who has been married twice is of the opinion that marriage is overrated.
The now single actress , who got separated from her husband, Lanre Gentry, in 2018, amidst allegations of domestic violence, said mothers usually brought up women to take whatever their partners did to them, all because they wanted to stay married.
While narrating her marital ordeal via her Youtube channel, Ms Aigbe said, “Our mothers brought us up, as women, to take whatever our partners do to us. They tell us to take it because we want to remain in a man’s house. To me, it is not an achievement. Let’s just say as it is– marriage is overrated. It takes two people to make it work; it’s not just about the women. But, everybody keeps heaping all the responsibilities on the woman. That shouldn’t be.”
Describing how she was assaulted, Aigbe said, “The first time the slap came, it felt like I was dreaming.
I read a lot of things online. Some people even said I made it up. But, nobody can dictate to me how to live my life.”
The actress also noted that religion doesn’t encourage women to speak up when they are assaulted by their husbands. She added, “I have been through domestic violence and I came out strong. I would love to see the end of domestic violence in society. It wasn’t easy for me because society always shames one. Everybody believes if one is experiencing domestic violence, one has to be patient as a woman and take it all to remain in one’s husband’s house. A lot of people have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence. And religion is not helping. An assaulted woman could go to her pastor and the cleric would say, ‘Oh madam, you need to keep praying’. Is it until she loses her life?”
