Christabel Omore Buoro Owoicho, a 300-level student of the University of Bénin who was found dead in her room was raped before committing suicide, her friend and uncle have said.
Earlier report had said she committed suicide because of strain relationship with her boyfriend.
She was said to have locked herself indoor after her roommate left the hostel, increased the volume of her music, left a note and committed the act.
Her roommate, Folakemi and a man who identified himself as the deceased uncle, Ben Bamiyi, said the Christabel was an introvert.
“She never had a boyfriend in her entire life. Christabel was exceptionally brilliant”.
Sources said she was a virgin before her encounter with the rapist.
Police spokesman in Edo DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said no arrest had been made as investigation had begun.
“Investigators said the suicide note was incoherent. Professionals will examine the body to ascertain whether she was a psychiatric patient,” DSP Nwabuzor said.
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Wednesday disclosed plans to chase ‘bad Fulani herders’ involved in violent attacks out of the South West.
Ogunwusi stated that the recent herdsmen attacks in the South West was “alien,” hence the need to chase them out of the region.
He spoke while hosting the Emir of Borgu, Muhammed Dantoro, (Kitoro IV) in his palace in Ife, Osun State and was contained in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare.
According to the monarch, its time to “separate the corn (wheat) from the shaft (chaff)”.
The statement reads: “We keep hammering on the Fulani herdsmen trying to take over everywhere, it is the bad ones that we want to kick out and enough is enough, we will kick them and do justice to the peace and peaceful coexistence in our country.
“We want our country to be prosperous in peaceful coexistence, we do not want people to live in fear and that is the reason why we are trying to connect to one another as traditional rulers to find lasting solution to these of criminality.
“Everybody is saying they are Fulani herdsmen now, kidnapping everywhere. Enough of that! We must separate the corn from the shaft putting behind the past and letting peace reign in our land and in our country and that is what we stand for. We must join together to end this criminality being perpetrated by enemies of Nigeria with ungodly spirit irrespective of their tribes.”
Also speaking, the Emir of Borgu said he will support Ooni’s plan “for the betterment of the people”.
“We will definitely work together for the betterment of our people. Borgu is a mini Nigeria because it is one of the few places in the country where you can find all tribes coexisting peacefully,” he added.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, has arrested 27 suspected fraudsters for offences bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, forgery and possession of fraudulent documents.
The suspects are: Joshua Awoyemi, Sadiq Adeola, Olusoga Sadiq, Olalekan Savage, Arinze Princewill, Ojelabi Adewale, Ibrahim Habib, Wusu Damilare, Kadejo Sola, Osho Omotolani, Adeosun Adeyemi, Sobiye Oluwafemi and Temitope Opaogun.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14, 2019 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following intelligence reports received by the Commission.
Items recovered from the suspects include seven cars, 25 phones and 10 laptops.
The suspects will soon be charged to court.
EFCC Arrests 27 Suspected Yahoo-Boys in Osogbo, Recovers 8 Exotic Cars, Other Items
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, on Thursday, June 20, 2019 swept on hideouts of suspected internet fraudsters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, and smoked out 27 suspects among whom were four ladies suspected to be their girlfriends.
Officials of the Commission have embarked on weeks of surveillance, working on series of intelligence gathered on the activities of suspected ‘Yahoo Boys’ in locations across the city.
The intelligence was found to be substantially credible, leading to the sting operation on Thursday.
Among the arrested suspects are Adeleke Peter, Babalola Abiodun, Aduroja Temitope, Abdulazeez Razak, Adesina Adewale, Osayintoba Dare, Adebowale Fadairo, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Akinseye Samuel and Osanyintoba Femi.
Others include: Austin Onyekachukwu, Oluwaseun Adesina, Ibosiola Olamilekan, Ayoola Lekan, Abdullahi Owopade, Olatunbosun Kolawole, Saheed Adebola, Osanyintoba Pelumi, Ayo Bello, Samuel Emmanuel, Olalekan Oladele, Solomon Mattew, Oyelude Opeyemi, Quadri Olatunji, Ibrahim Alao, Tunde Bello and Fatolu Temitope.
Eight exotic cars including two Lexus and six Toyota brands, as well as many costly phones and laptops, were among the items recovered in the course of the operation.
The suspects, who variously claimed to be graduates, students, computer engineers and businessmen, are currently undergoing interrogation to ascertain their level of involvement in the alleged act.
They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The little girl, identified as Anjola had celebrated her fifth birthday in Dubai, and she obviously had a splendid time, as she refused coming back to her home country.
In one of the video taken in Dubai, the little girl says she wants to remain in Dubai, and has no interest in seeing her relatives and family in Nigeria. She even said she does not want to go back to her school in Nigeria.
After they arrived Nigeria, little Anjola could be seen crying outside her Nigeria home, refusing to go in. In the video, the five-year-old was seen crying as she complained that there was no light in the house. Her mother was also heard in the background begging her to enter the house.

The Lagos state police command today, arrested 22 year old Joseph Ogbu, for the gruesome murder of his employer, Oreoluewa John, 38, and her 89-year-old mother, Adejoke John, at their residence at Number 4 Ogunlana drive in Sururlere, Lagos state.
A statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, says at about 3am today, the Surulere Police Station received a distress call from No 4 Ogulana drive in Surulere that Joseph who is from Oju Local Government Area, Benue State and who was employed as a domestic staff on 18th June, 2019, murdered his employer Oreoluwa and her 89 years old Mother at their home.
The suspect confessed to the Crime.
In his statement, he averred that, his employer asked him to clean the house at about 9pm of 19th June, 2019 but an argument ensued between them, which prompted him to stab her with a knife. Joseph said the shock caused the mother to slum and die.
Considering the fact that they were both dead, he moved some valuable Properties such as electronics, handsets and household items into the employer’s Toyota Camry Salon Car and attempted to escape to where he cannot be found, before he was apprehended by Policemen on patrol at Ogunlana pindown point.
The vehicle and items stolen were recovered. The Crime scene was sealed off and corpses of the two victims were taken to Mainland hospital Yaba for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu mni has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba to take over the investigation and charge the suspect to Court.

As more people continue to use popular agricultural pesticide, Sniper to commit suicide in the country, the National Food, Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has ordered agro-dealers to withdraw the product from open markets and supermarkets.
NAFDAC’s Director, Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products Directorate, Dr. Bukar Usman, disclosed this on Wednesday at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan.
Usman, speaking during the launch of a new herbicide for cassava farmers, “Lifeline”, by UPL, Sprinfield Agro and IITA, said that the agency had asked agro-dealers to stop the sale of the product in open markets and supermarkets.
According to him, sniper is an agro-cultural product meant to be used only in the farms and not for households.
He urged manufacturers and dealers to cooperate with NAFDAC to mop up the 100ml size of the product which were cheap and easily acquired.
He maintained that the directive was not an outright ban of the product but a restriction of its use and availability to farms alone, adding all agro-chemicals meant for farms should not be used in households.
“There are appropriate products for the control of mosquitoes and other household pests” he pointed out.
A 300-Level Medical Laboratory student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Christabel was yesterday evening discovered dead in her hostel room at Newton Street, Ekosodin area of Benin City, after allegedly taking some deadly substance to end her life.
The details of the incident were still sketchy as at press time yesterday but according to eyewitnesses, she mixed the deadly insecticide popularly called Snipper with a Sprite drink and reportedly left a suicide note where she stated that she was about taking her life because the guy she loved didn’t love her in return after her boyfriend broke up with her.
But another witness who confirmed the incident said an empty sachet of Klin detergent was found on the spot where her body laid.
Meanwhile, in a social media post by Uniben Metro, it was reported that the suicide note, which is already in custody of the police at Ugbowo police station, was addressed to two persons, names withheld and the two persons have been invited to the police station for questioning.
The post claimed the suicide was not due to relationship problems between the deceased and her boyfriend but rather personal unresolved issues between the two persons the letter was addressed to.
“The letter didn’t state what happened between the two mentioned persons, reason the police have invited them to unravel the reasons behind the deceased’s action,” the post stated.

Just months after Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola informed the public that he would sell his shares to Prudent Energy, a local oil trading firm, he has finally announced his exit from Forte Oil.

40-year-old Emeka Okwuosa has been remanded in prison for allegedly defiling a 2-year-old girl.
According to the court papers filed before the Magistrate Court in Nsukwa, Delta state, Emeka on May 31st allegedly had canal knowledge of the minor after her father had gone out.
He was arraigned before the Magistrate court yesterday June 19th. The court ordered that he be remanded in the Federal Prison Ogwashi Uku pending advice from Directorate of public prosecution (DPP).
Activist, Harrison Emefiena Gwamnishu, who shared the story online, said the victim’s father, Mr Johnson from Akwa Ibom state, lived in the compound owned by Emeka. He had gone to work on the day the crime was committed, leaving the little girl with his 12 year old Nephew.
Emeka allegedly sent the Nephew on an errand, creating the opportunity for him to rape the minor. The 12 year old boy was first arrested and tortured by the police before investigations later showed that Emeka defiled the minor.
Emefiena organized a protest in the state after the police allegedly asked Mr Johnson for N10, 000 before they could do facilitate Emeka’s arrest.
