A 30-year-old man has been arraigned at a Dutse Grade 1 Area Court for allegedly stealing N296,000 belonging to his girlfriend.
The accused, identified as Endurance Adams, was charged with criminal breach of trust and theft on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mr. Clement Eromosale, told the court that the matter was reported by the defendant’s girlfriend, Grace Luka, on Aug. 30, at the Bwari Police Station.
According to Eromosale, the defendant, sometimes in December 2017, approached the complainant and asked her to be his girlfriend.
He explained that after the complainant had agreed to his request, the defendant deceived her and collected her Ecobank ATM card and pin number with the guise that someone was going to send money to him through her account number.
The prosecution said that the defendant dishonestly withdrew the complainant’s money, in the sum of N296,000, without her consent and converted the money to his personal use.
Eromosale said during the police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.
He said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Presiding Judge, Mr. Suleiman Mohammed, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
A lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State allegedly punished her students for not sweeping the classroom by asking them to kneel down and raise up their hands.

In a just-released memoir ‘Let Love Have the Last Word: A Memoir, he opens up for the first time about being molested as a child.
In the book, the Chicago rapper whose real name is Lonnie Corant Jaman Shuka Rashid Lynn, disclosed that he was molested at the age of 9 or 10 years. He says the memories began to surface as he and his friend, actress Laura Dern, were prepping for their scenes in the 2018 dramatic film, The Tale.
He wrote;
“I caught my breath and just kept looping the memories over and over, like rewinding an old VHS tape…I said ‘Laura, I think I was abused.’”
Common goes on to share what he now recalls happening to him when he was just 9 or 10 years old while growing up in Chicago. “I was excited for a road trip I was about to take with my family. My mother; my godmother, Barbara; her son and my godbrother Skeet; and his relative, who I’ll call Brandon…”
Arriving at his Aunt’s house in Cleveland, Common says he and Brandon were made to share a bed together one night of the trip.
“At some point, I felt Brandon’s hand on me,” he writes. “I pushed him away. I don’t remember saying a whole lot besides ‘No, no, no.’”
But Common says his abuser would not stop: “He kept saying ‘It’s okay, It’s okay,’ as he pulled down my shorts and molested me. After he stopped he kept asking me to perform it on him. I kept repeating ‘No’ and pushing him away,” the rapper writes. “I felt a deep and sudden shame for what happened.”
To cope, the “Glory” singer believes he “buried” the painful memories. “I just pushed the whole thing out of my head,” he writes. “Maybe it’s a matter of survival—Even now, two years after that flash resurgence of memories, as I’m writing, I’m still working through all of this in myself and with my therapist.”
The star says that he has never spoken about the one-time incident with the accused (who he hasn’t seen in over 25 years) but he has forgiven him, for his and others’ sake. “I want to be a person who helps break cycles of violence,” he writes. “This is love in action and I intend to practice it.”

Stella Gilbert, a 36 year old lady resident in Ajegunle wailed uncontrollably on Tuesday few minutes after Justice Raliat Adebiyi pronounced death sentence on her for stabbing a fellow housewife, Mrs Stella Godwin to death during a fracas.
The deceased is mother of three. She knelt down on the floor, wailing, “Mummy ejo, eshanu me, I don’t want to die ooo, wetin I do” forcing prison officials and court orderly to physically carry her away and downstairs in the premises. But she continued wailing, telling all passersby what would become of her. It took special skill by the prison officials to persuade her to accompany them to the Maximum Security Prison.
The judge found her guilty on one count charge of murder brought against her by the Lagos State government. Stella Gilbert stabbed Mrs Stella Godwin with knife to death during an argument on June 22, 2013 at No. 59, Ojora St., Ajegunle, Lagos contrary to section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011.
While delivering the judgement in the suit, Justice Adebiyi held that the prosecution proved the murder case against the defendant with overwhelming evidence that during a fight with her neighbour, the defendant stabbed the deceased to death in the chest with a knife.
She added that prosecution witnesses evidence were also overwhelming and that the defendant herself confessed that she only stabbed the deceased once.
“The knife was tendered as exhibit. The defendant in this case used a knife on the deceased, by any standard, a knife is a lethal weapon. The evidence of PW2, the cousin of PW1 (the deceased’s husband) and of PW3 the woman police officer was that the deceased was stabbed in the chest.
“The Coroner’s report tendered in evidence by PW4 confirmed that the deceased was stabbed in the chest. The chest is where the heart is, by stabbing the deceased in the chest, a very fragile part of the body, clearly intended to cause the most harm to her. The death of the deceased occurred as a result of the grievous injury caused by the defendant. The defendant is culpable of the offence of murder .”
Justice Adebiyi further held that defendant testimony contradict her confessional statement.” The defendant testimony was that she was attacked by the deceased, it amount to self defence .She did not prove that she was in free for all when she stabbed the deceased.
“From the evidence, the fight took place in a room, though no evidence was given of the size of the room, it could not have been a very large room. The evidence was that the deceased and defendant lived in a house consisting of rooms occupied by families popularly called ‘face me I face you’.
“As an aside, it is worrying that the level of violence, unnecessary animosity and death which occurs amongst our citizens as a result of living together in close proximity without sufficient personal space and boundaries remain unabated. There is clearly a need to improve social housing and living conditions. The court hopes that this message will be conveyed to the necessary authorities through the prosecutors who have the responsibility to prosecute these cases and should be able to provide vital statistics,”
In his allocutus, her counsel pleaded that court should temper justice with mercy. Added that she single and be given an opportunity of second chance. He said she has lost both parent and has gone through a lot in prison. But the prosecution counsel, Mrs Opeyemi Olugasa said the law gives mandatory sentence and punishment to offender, urged the court to sentence her accordingly.
“The defendant must suffer the consequence of her action. The defendant Stella Gibert is found guilty of the one count charge of murder. You are hereby sentenced to death. May the giver of soul forgives you.”

A 36-year-old woman, Stella Gilbert, has been sentenced to death by Ikeja high court on Tuesday, for stabbing her neighbour, Mrs Stella Godwin, during a fight at their residence in Ajegunle, Lagos.
The convict stabbed the deceased on the chest and arm with a knife during a fight.
Murder contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011 and is punishable with death by hanging.
The fight was reportedly over a bench in the premises of their single room apartments also known as ‘face’me-I-face you’.
The fight was caused by an argument over who should be using the bench belonging to their former neighbour.
Justice Raliatu Adebiyi sentenced Gilbert after dismissing her claim of self defence.
The judge held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“The defendant in this case used a knife on the deceased; by any standard, a knife is a lethal weapon. The evidence of PW2 (Prosecution Witness 2), the cousin of PW1 (the deceased’s husband), and that of PW3, the female police officer, was that the deceased was stabbed on the chest. The coroner’s report tendered in evidence by PW4 confirmed that the deceased was stabbed on the chest. The judge remarked that a lot of cases in courts were caused by animosity and violence due to individuals living in close proximity in the metropolis. She said that the situation called for improvement in social housing in Lagos State.

The evidence was that the deceased and the defendant lived in a house consisting of rooms occupied by families popularly called ‘face-me-I-face-you’. There is clearly a need to improve social housing and living conditions. The court hopes that this message will be conveyed to the necessary authorities through prosecutors who have the responsibility to prosecute these cases and should be able to provide vital statistics,” she urged.
Following the conviction of the Gilbert, her counsel, Mr Y. E. Yusuf, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
“The defendant has been in detention for six years; during that time, she lost both parents and her brother. She is in her late 30s and unmarried, she has gone through a lot. She was not harbouring the intent to murder when the incident occurred. I want my lord to temper justice with mercy and refrain from giving the defendant the maximum sentence,” Yusuf urged.
However, the judge passed death sentence on Gilbert.
“The defendant, Stella Gilbert, is hereby sentenced to death. May God that grants life have mercy on your soul,” she said.
On hearing the sentence, Gilbert collapsed on the dock. Wailing loudly, she said:
“Please ma, temper justice with mercy, why me oh, only me…”
In her tears, she was led out of the courtroom and had to be carried by a mobile policeman and a prison warden out of the court complex to avoid disruption of proceedings in other courtrooms due to the commotion.
According to the state counsel, Mrs O. R. Ahmed-Muili, the convict murdered Godwin, mother of three, on June 22, 2013, at No. 59, Ojora St., Ajegunle, Lagos.
A honest Nigerian lady has returned money mistakenly paid into her account by a company she didn’t work for.
Chinwendu Ogbonna revealed she applied to work with the company and did the necessary documentation but ended up not taking the job.
However, at the end of the month, when other staff of the company were being paid, her account was also credited.
Seeing that she didn’t work for the money, Chinwendu decided to pay back the money to the company even though they hadn’t called her back to ask for it.

Yemi Osinbajo’s convoy was today, block by some aggrieved protesters along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway in Abuja today.
According to reports, the protesters had blocked the convoy of the Vice President, as he was heading to the airport, when he ran into a barricade at Goza village.
Gbagyi village residents had gathered on the major road connecting the airport to the city. They were protesting the alleged invasion of their land by the military.
Osinbajo’s security aides could not appease the protesters, forcing the Vice President to step out of his car.

The Nigerian police on Tuesday arraigned Senator Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday before Mpape Magistrate Court, Abuja over fresh charges brought against him by the police.
Adeleke who honored an invitation by the police at the Force Headquarters on Monday but was later detained.
He was arrested in September 2018, a few days to the Osun governorship election in which he was the most potent opposition challenger.
He was accused of writing WAEC with muddled identity in order to beef up his credentials for the governorship election that was then upcoming.
After Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, reacted to the arrest of his uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, by the Nigerian Police, a troll then told him he and his girlfriend will be the next to be arrested.

Tonto Dikeh has finally explained why she let the cat out of the bag as regards the alleged Sexual deficiency her estranged husband, Churchill, suffers.
A fan berated Tonto Dikeh for using her ex-husband, Churchill’s alleged sexual deficiency to publicly shame him. And Tonto replied, explaining why she made the private matter public.
The actress then took to Instagram to reveal that after her interview went viral, she’s got so many heartbreaking emails from women claiming they are victims of abuse too. She warned that it can happen to anyone and advised that others learn from her situation.
But a follower was not impressed with Tonto’s sermon and she berated the actress for using a sensitive topic such as a man’s sexual deficiency to try to shame him.
Replying to the follower, Tonto wrote:
“So a fucking man say I’m on drugs and I can’t use his sexual disease against him?? Ooo pls honey I said more. For me I will drag your life from hell and back until i’m ok!! We all can’t be the same you know.”

The Ogun state police command have reportedly arrested a 28-year-old man, Oni Olohunwa, for stabbing his friend, Baraka Taiwo, to death, during an argument.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, says the deceased and the suspect who were close friends attended a party and had an argument that resulted in them fighting.
“In the course of the party, the deceased was said to have got drunk and started misbehaving and while the suspect was trying to caution him, an argument ensued. The suspect later brought out a knife and stabbed him (victim) and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he died. The suspect has been charged with homicide.” the statement read
The suspect has been transfered to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
