The Nigerian police on Tuesday arraigned Senator Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday before Mpape Magistrate Court, Abuja over fresh charges brought against him by the police.
Adeleke who honored an invitation by the police at the Force Headquarters on Monday but was later detained.
He was arrested in September 2018, a few days to the Osun governorship election in which he was the most potent opposition challenger.
He was accused of writing WAEC with muddled identity in order to beef up his credentials for the governorship election that was then upcoming.

The Ogun state police command have reportedly arrested a 28-year-old man, Oni Olohunwa, for stabbing his friend, Baraka Taiwo, to death, during an argument.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, says the deceased and the suspect who were close friends attended a party and had an argument that resulted in them fighting.
“In the course of the party, the deceased was said to have got drunk and started misbehaving and while the suspect was trying to caution him, an argument ensued. The suspect later brought out a knife and stabbed him (victim) and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he died. The suspect has been charged with homicide.” the statement read
The suspect has been transfered to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Agriculture, State Task force on Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit and officers of the Nigeria Police Force says it has seized 30 Tonnes of animal hides and skin popularly known as ‘Ponmo’ presumed to be poisonous and unhealthy for human consumption at a ware house located at College Road in Igando area of Lagos State.
Oluwatoyin Suarau, who disclosed this at a news conference, said a special operation which led to the arrest of operators of the factory was based on a tip off by concerned members of the public who became suspicious of activities in the ware house where offensive stench ooze out during the preservation of the consignment.
Oluwatoyin said that the bonfire made with Jamaica rubber, which was also confiscated, in the processing of the ‘Ponmo’ emits a thick toxin smoke which spread within the complex and adjoining neighbourhood adding that the smoke and the unhygienic way of processing the cow skin is harmful to human health.
The Commissioner while stating that investigation into the source of the poisonous ‘Ponmo’ has since commenced, noted that the Ministry of Agriculture has set up a monitoring and investigation committee headed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Olayiwole Onasanya to get the source of the poisonous ‘Ponmo’ and dislodge factories and illegal abattoirs where the they are being processed.
“This committee would work with relevant government agencies to fish out any other illegal ‘Ponmo’ processing factory and illegal abattoir whose activities poses great danger to the public” he said

James Oluwaseun, Abdulah Olamide, Samuel Okoya and Isreal Babatunde, all students of a tertiary institution in Ede, Osun State, have been remanded at the Ilesa Prison for allegedly beating a hooker for refusing to have sex without condom.
According to a report by DailyTrust, one of the accused had reportedly picked up the 30-year-old mother-of-two at Pavilion lounge in Osogbo, with the agreement to pay her N5,000.
However, when they got home, he was said to have insisted that he would have sex with her without condom, but she reportedly refused.
This led to an heated argument and when the lady was leaving the following day, the accused refused to pay her, claiming that they did not have sex.
Meanwhile, the hooker insisted on collecting her money, since she spent the night and that not having sex was not her fault. This led to another argument, with three friends of the primary suspect joining in. .
In the process, the four men accused the lady of stealing some documents in the house and they went ahead to assault her. The matter was later reported at the Ede ‘B’ Divisional Police Station where the four accused persons were detained.
The suspects were later arraigned before a magistrates’ court in the state. The Magistrate, A.A Olowolagba, was said to have granted them bail, but they were taken to prison when they could not meet the conditions.

A 200 level student of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) identified as Emem Jimmy, was shot dead by notorious phone snatchers during the weekend.
Jimmy, a political science major of the university was shot dead along Wilson Idiong street, close to the Obio Akpa campus of the University in Oruk Anam local government area of the state.
According to eyewitness report, the deceased attempted to resist the unknown gunmen from snatching his phone before he was shot dead.
The Head, Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol of the University, Mr Akaninyene Ibanga, who confirmed the incident, said the victim died though he was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A statement from the Ibanga read;
“Late Emem was shot between the hours of 8.30 – 9pm at Wilson Idiong Street, off Ikot Okoro Road, Obioakpa, Oruk Anam Local Government Area in an attempt to resist unknown gunmen from snatching his phone. He was rushed immediately to the hospital for treatment which the University Management took over the hospital bills just to save his life but on Saturday late Emem could not survive the struggle with death, so he finally passed on at about 12.30pm.”

The Peoples Democratic Party,PDP said the Police has arrested and detained its Osun state governorship candidate in last year’s election, Senator Ademola Adeleke. The party said the arrest was a recipe for crisis, alleging that there was another plot to poison the lawmaker in detention.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said at a press conference Monday night that Adeleke’s arrest was to frustrate him and the PDP and to force him to discontinue with the case challenging the “purported victory” of the APC.
The PDP added that the plot was to drag Senator Adeleke before an “ostensibly compromised” magistrate court, over the same issues of alleged forged school testimonial that is already before the Federal High Court.
The party claimed that another plot was to secure trial and hurriedly convict him to put him out of circulation, over trump-up charges. The party however, demanded for his unconditional release.
“The police arrested Senator Ademola on the guise of an invitation despite the direct orders of the Federal High Court, restraining it or its agents from arresting and detaining him on account of statement of result and testimonial duly issued by the Ede Muslim Grammar School, Ede, pending the determination of the originating summons pending in the court.
“Senator Adeleke, as a law-abiding citizen, honoured an invitation by the police only for him to be arrested and detained in a dingy facility in Maitama, in direct affront to the order of the Federal High Court. “The PDP holds that any arraignment of Senator Adeleke in a magistrate court, for a matter that is already being heard by the Federal High Court, is a calculated plot to cause crisis in the judicial system, enmesh the matter in unnecessary controversy as a pathway to truncate the course of justice in his matter.
“This is highly provocative, an invitation to anarchy and recipe for a very serious crisis not only in Osun but also in the judiciary and our polity as a nation.
“The arrest and detention of Senator Adeleke is a direct act of violence against our laws, the institution of the judiciary and the 1999 Constitution (as amended). “This is part of the grand plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to coerce Senator Adeleke to relinquish the mandate that was freely given to him by the people of Osun state, which was further established by the election petition tribunal.
“The heinous calculation by the APC is to ensure that Senator Adeleke is not free to be sworn in as governor of Osun state as they know he will surely obtain justice and retrieve his stolen mandate at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court,” the PDP said.
Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested four internet fraudsters in Calabar, Cross River State, following two seperate raids carried out in the early hours of Saturday, May 4, 2019 and Sunday, May 5, 2019.
The Saturday morning operation led to the arrest of a known “yahoo” kingpin, Akpojivi Joel Onoriode, a 29-year-old graduate of Delta State University, Abraka who is married with two kids.
Onoriode was arrested in his lavishly furnished duplex located at Plot 10, Block VI, Unical Satellite Town, Calabar, which he confessed was purchased with proceeds from his illicit “yahoo” business. He confessed that he had been in the “yahoo-yahoo” business for a long time and was known as “Blinks” or “Mr White”. He admitted that he has been in the “yahoo” business for a very long time and currently operates an offshore account in China.
He said: “I was really known in my school then as a yahoo boy. I have two kids. I didn’t want to bring them up where people will say, ah! your father is a yahoo boy. That was why I relocated my family from Asaba to Calabar.
“When I came out now and saw you people and the bus outside, my mind just told me there was a problem.”
While conducting a search on the premises, three luxury cars were recovered from him – ZDX Acura car, E 300 Mercedes Benz and a Range Rover SUV. The Range Rover could, however, not be moved out of the premises with other exhibits due to mechanical problems. Other items recovered include, two iPhones, one Nokia phone, and documents of landed properties owned by the suspect.
The morning raid on May 5, 2019 led to the arrest of Ifeanyi Chukwudi, Godwin Joseph and Iluobe Daniel. They were picked up at different locations within Calabar, following intelligence reports gathered by operatives of the Commission, as a result of the high rate of cybercrime in the town.
Chukwudi confessed that he specialized in love scam, admitting that he had “made a lot of money from the business (yahoo-yahoo)”.
He said: “I have defrauded women from the UK (United Kingdom). They usually pay me after we get engaged, and then, they will now want me to come over, that’s when they send me money and that’s how I get paid.”
Some of the items recovered from his apartment at Effiong Close, Satellite Town, Calabar include: one iPhone 8 Plus, one HP laptop containing fraudulent letters of false claims, and nine SIM cards.
Joseph and Daniel were arrested at Itagbor Agbeansa area of Calabar. A Toyota Camry LE, one HP laptop containing scam emails and several exotic phones were recovered from them.
Boko Haram terrorists have kidnapped Abraham Amuta, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Rabiu Aminu, the Borno State Coordinator of NYSC, has confirmed.
Speaking with the media in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, on Monday, Aminu said Abraham was abducted alongside a Living Faith Church pastor simply identified as ‘Oyeleke’ in an attack coordinated by the insurgents against motorists on Maiduguri-Chibok Road on April 10.

He said the corps member, with Registration Number BO18b/067, was deployed to Borno State Council of Arts and Culture, Maiduguri, but he and his pastor were abducted while travelling with other members of the church.
Aminu said ;
“The church claimed that the corps member was abducted alongside his pastor, NYSC deploys corps members to only four of the 27 local government areas in the state. The councils are Jere, Bayo, Biu and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
He explained that for any corps member to travel, he has to apply through proper channels, which involves formal request from his employer, through the zonal inspector and channelled to the state coordinator, where it would be considered for approval or rejection. This, he said, the corps member did not do.
“It was unfortunate that the said corps member travelled on his own,” he said.
“We have been having sleepless nights over the issue, because he is under our custody. We visited the church, and the Commissioner of Police called us on Friday over the incident and assured us of their total support in addressing the situation.”
Amuta, it was learnt, is the only son of his parents.

The Plateau state police command have recovered the corpse of a student of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Mercy Naan, who was declared missing on May 3rd.
A statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Terna Tyopev, says Naan who is 2nd year student of the department of Marketing, was declared missing by her parents on Friday May 3rd after no one could reach her. Her parents alerted the school security who then alerted the police.
The statement in part reads;
“The body was recovered on Sunday, May 5, after we received information of an unbearable odour from room 23 in Zion Hostel of the University. Yesterday, at about 3:30 p.m, our Angwan Rogo Division received a distress call from the the school’s security department, that on the same date, at about 3 p.m., some students raised an alarm over an unusual odour from room number 23, Zion Hostel, in Naraguta area of the school.
“Immediately we received the report, a combined team comprising of the Police, the University security and Medical personnel mobilised to the scene.
“On arrival, we forced the hostel door open and the motionless body of one Mercy Naan, a 23-year-old 200 level student of the Department of Marketing, was seen and recovered.” he said
Tyopev added that the victim was confirmed dead at University Clinic and her corpse had been deposited at UNIJOS’ mortuary for autopsy. He added that detectives had begun investigation on the incident, and asked the public to help with relevant information.

Two men have been arrested while trying to carry out an attack on a pastor during church service and they confessed to being sent by another pastor to kidnap his rival in the ministry.
Members of the church were at the Wednesday counselling and deliverance service when the kidnappers drove into the church and requested to see the general overseer, Prophet Isaac Abraham.
Church members suspected something was amiss so they apprehended two of the suspects. Two others, who were allegedly armed, escaped.

Nollywood actress Nse Ikpe-Etim has reacted to the alleged sexual harassment of women labelled a prostitutes by police officers after a raid on an Abuja night club.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command said it will probe the allegations of sexual assault against its men and punish those found erring.
On April 27, policemen attached to the FCTA Joint Task Team arrested 34 female strippers at Caramelo night club in Abuja and labelled them as prostitutes. About 70 other women were arrested in other clubs. Arraigned before a mobile court, the women were granted bail on April 29.
The women alleged some policemen extorted them, beat them and sexually molested them after they arrested and detained at Utako Police Division between April 26 April 29, 2019. They also accused the policemen of releasing those who bribed them with money.

Ordinarily, encounters between the citizens and the Police or other law enforcement agents should be reassuring and delightful. In fact, the mere sight of the Police ought to generate in the citizen an instant feeling of relief, safety and security. This unfortunately, is not the reality in Nigeria today.
In fact, some encounters in the past had led to embarrassment, injuries, permanent disability and, in extreme cases, death of the citizens. Similarly, some security agents have also suffered molestation and harm from such encounters.
While Police officers are reminded of the need to exercise ‘courageous calm’ and avoid resort to the use of deadly force or lethal weapon at the slightest provocation, members of the public on the other hand are expected to avoid actions that could turn simple encounters with security personnel into more serious ones.
It is against this backdrop that we are today providing tips that could help in enhancing cordial relationship between the Police and the citizenry.
Tips for safe and cordial relationship at check points
-When approaching a security checkpoint or when flagged-down by the Police or other security agencies;
-Endeavor to slow down your vehicle. It shows that you are not reckless. It also douses suspicion that you are a criminal and may want to speed-off.
Turn down the volume of your car stereo. Courtesy demands this. Besides, you are able to hear each other better. This simple act will also help you to win the confidence of the security operative.
-Keep your hands visible to avoid unnecessary suspicion or fear by the officers that you are attempting to bring out a gun or other harmful objects to attack them
-Turn on the inner light of your vehicle while approaching the cops (if at night). It readily sends an unspoken message that you have nothing to hide.
-Be friendly and cheerful. Commend the officers especially when you see them working under very unfriendly weather conditions such as the rains, the harsh harmattan conditions, excessive heat, cold or sunshine. We know it’s their job, but a little kind word from you will do a lot of good. Remember when you smile at the mirror, the mirror smiles back at you.

-Don’t dare or challenge an armed security man to a duel. Oftentimes, you hear people say things like ‘shoot me, if you can!” Note that this is a recipe for disaster! It is very provocative and an unnecessary call for war. So, please play safe, more so, as you do not know the state of mind of the officer concerned.
-Also, don’t go into a physical fight with an armed security officer. He may resort to the use of his weapon (rightly or wrongly) to defend himself.
Avoid unnecessary argument with armed security personnel. There are a thousand and one ways to seek redress where you feel your rights have been infringed upon.
-Never try to touch an officer in an unfriendly manner. He may suspect you of trying to disarm him.
-If you are a regular traveler or road user, make sure you have the police emergency phone numbers of the route you operate. You never can tell when an emergency situation could arise and you need the Police to come to your aid.
-Make sure you have all your relevant car papers and desist from actions or inactions that constitute either a criminal or traffic offence. Such infractions of the law provide veritable grounds for possible charges and other forms of adversarial contact with the Police or other law enforcement agencies, including unnecessary arguments.
-Don’t give the impression that you are unhappy to see an officer on his beat or that he is wasting your time. But if you do have an emergency, politely inform the officer. Don’t speed off while still being checked.
Take note of the name tags, Force or Service numbers, personal description, description of weapons or patrol vehicle of the security officer especially where the officers begin to conduct themselves in unprofessional manner.
-Seek audience with the most senior police officer at the check point if things are not working out smoothly.
-Politely insist to be taken to the police station if your complaint is not properly addressed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their baby boy today at 5.26am, Buckingham Palace announced. The new parents are said to be thrilled at the arrival of the new Royal baby, who weighed 7lbs 3oz.
Meghan went into labour in the early hours of this morning after being overdue for more than a week.
Speaking from Windsor, Prince Harry said: “I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning, a very healthy baby boy. I’m so incredibly proud of my wife.”
He added: “It’s brilliant, I’m absolutely thrilled. We’re really grateful for all the love and support shown to us. It’s been overdue so we have had a little bit of time to think about names so that’s the next bit.
“I haven’t been at many births. This is my first birth. It was amazing and absolutely incredible. I’m incredibly proud of my wife.
“Every father and parent will say your baby is absolutely amazing but this little thing is absolutely to die for. I’m over the moon.”
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said Meghan and her child were “both doing well”, and that the Queen was “delighted” with the news. It also revealed that Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland was currently with Meghan at Frogmore Cottage, suggesting Meghan eventually had a home birth as she wanted.
