A three-man drug syndicate have been arrested by men of the Ikoyi Prison in Lagos for attempting to sell marijuana to inmates of the prison.

According to Punch, the suspects comprising of a 22-year-old man identified as Ikuomola Abolade; Sodeeq Yunusa, who is an inmate standing trial for alleged robbery, and an unidentified person, who is presently at large, were apprehended while trying to smuggle the banned substance into the prison on Sunday December 30th 2018.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested through a 10-year-old boy, who is part of the Intelligence and Monitoring Committee comprising selected officials of the prison, their wives, the drug unit and the police, which was set up to monitor the activities of intruders in the prison facility.

The 10-year-old boy saw the suspects throwing the banned substances into the prison premises and alerted his parents, but before his father could alert his colleagues, the suspects had boarded a tricycle. The officials gave them a hot chase and caught up with them at Obalende, but the unidentified persons escaped.

However, the CCTV installed in the prison caught the face of the inmate, Yunusa, picking up the banned substance.

Abolade, according to a source, is presently in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, pending completion of the investigation.

The Lagos State Controller of Prisons, Tunde Ladipo, who confirmed the incident, said the prison authorities would ensure that the suspects did not escape justice so as to serve as a deterrent to others.

The ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is likely to be called off soon.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, gave the hint in Onitsha, Anambra State, while speaking to reporters.

Ngige revealed that funds had been provided to meet most of the demands of the union.

He said the Federal Government would make necessary efforts to ensure that the strike comes to an end this January.

According to Ngige, the issues that made ASUU to embark on strike were based on agreement which the union entered into with the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, which the administration failed to implement before President Muhammadu Buhari took over power.

According to the minister, the Buhari administration is labour-friendly and is always concerned about the welfare of the nation’s workforce.

The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Worldwide, Dr Daniel Olukoya, in his own prophesies described 2019 as a year of many strange happenings.

Olukoya said many people trying to get rich through satanic means would be destroyed, while sexual perverts would receive a “death blow” from “sanitising agents”.

The cleric, according to a statement, said these on Monday night, during the church’s cross-over vigil service at the Prayer City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Olukoya said to survive 2019, Christians would require many strange prayers, which many around them might not be comfortable with.

He told the congregation that sacrificial giving was key to their success in 2019, saying “any teaching telling you not to give to God is from the pit of hell, because the apostles gave and God blessed them abundantly.”

He also told them “to pray seriously against the rage of the waters” in 2019.

Apparently, in celebration for the new year, folks were showing off their car drifting prowess in a celebration that involved cars in the state.
