World Bank president Jim Yong Kim resigns

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim resigns. He announced that he would step down next month, more than three years before his current term was due to expire.

The decision ends Kim’s six-year tenure and may give US President Donald Trump decisive influence over the future leadership of the 189-member global development lender.

“It has been a great honor to serve as president of this remarkable institution, full of passionate individuals dedicated to the mission of ending extreme poverty in our lifetime,” Kim, 59, said in a statement.

Kim, who became the bank’s president in 2012, is to join an unnamed firm focusing on investments in developing countries, the bank said in a statement, and will return to the board of Partners-in-Health, which he co-founded.

World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva will serve as interim president upon Kim’s February 1 departure, the bank said in a statement.

Under Kim’s leadership, the bank set the goal of eliminating extreme poverty by 2030 and ramped up financing. Last year, it also won approval for a sharp $13 billion capital increase after acceding to requests from the Trump administration to curb loans to high-income countries like China.

Kevin Spacey appears in court to face sexual assault charges and he’s warned to stay away from teenage victim

Kevin Spacey appears

Kevin Spacey was all smiles as he arrived in a Nantucket courtroom on Monday morning to face the charge of felony indecent assault for allegedly assaulting an 18-year-old at a Nantucket bar.

The former ‘house of cards’ actor was arraigned on a single count of Indecent Assault and Battery, which carries a sentence of up to five years in jail.

Before the case, he was seen chatting and laughing with his lawyer. When his case was finally called in front of the packed courthouse, a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

The judge then ordered Spacey not to have any contact with the alleged teenage victim or his family.

Spacey’s lawyer has said there are text messages exchanged between the alleged victim and his girlfriend at the time of the incident and later as well. The alleged victim told cops his girlfriend didn’t believe he was being assaulted by Spacey so he sent her a very short Snapchat video, showing a hand on clothes but not on genitals.

But Spacey’s lawyer claims the actor’s contact with the 18-year-old was consensual, pointing to what he claims was 3-minutes of touching without the young man ever objecting.

Spacey’s lawyer and the prosecution got into an argument over a discovery motion as Spacey’s team wanted the judge to preserve all of the alleged victim’s texts and cellphone records with his then-girlfriend from the July 2016 incident until today. But the prosecution was willing to offer up phone records just for the day of and after the alleged assault. Spacey’s lawyer wants the entire texts and phone records preserved because he said he believes those texts were “likely exculpatory” and show proof that Spacey didn’t assault the then 18-year-old at a Nantucket bar.

The session was over in no time and less than 10 minutes after he arrived, Spacey was heading back to the airport to fly home.

The pretrial hearing in the case was set for March 4, but Spacey will not have to appear in person and can instead call in to the court.

Election 2019 : We’ll maintain a policy of non-interference – President Buhari

President Buhari has said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since 2015 consistently conducted free and fair elections, assuring Nigerians that his administration will uphold the standard by ensuring “non-interference”.

“We have insisted that votes must count and have maintained a policy of non-interference in elections,’’ the President said at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the International Conference Centre.

“INEC has so far since 2015, conducted fair and credible elections in 195 constituencies nationwide, which have been attested nationwide to be qualitatively better than previous elections.

“Let me reiterate my commitment to free and fair elections. If there is one legacy I want to leave is the enthronement of democracy as a system of government. And for democracy to be enthroned, elections must be free and fair. That means citizens have a right to vote,’’ he added.

President Buhari told members of the Presidential Campaign Council that, with 40 days to the elections, the task before the council would be herculean as they would have to cover all corners of the country to sell the achievements of the party in over three years, pointing out that Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu would oversee all operations.

“I must also add that, though we will all be deeply involved, I would like to assure the nation that I will do my part without making governance or my work suffer. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my co-chairman, will be fully in charge, and he is going to be on 24-hour vigil,’’ he said.

President Buhari also noted that the operational buck of the campaign stops at Asiwaju Tinubu’s table, urging all those in the leadership of the campaign, in the field operations on the campaign trail and in the secretariat to consult with Asiwaju whenever guidance was needed.

The President said the campaigns must be conducted with high level of decorum, urging the council to resist all forms of provocation and remain focused as they engage citizens on issues, while asking them to compare the results on economy, security and corruption with past administrations led by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

According to President Buhari:

“We have in the last 3 years and 6 months reversed this downward slide that the PDP took us in its 16 years of misrule. We have restored the territorial integrity of our nation, thanks to our gallant men and women of our armed forces. We are systematically engaged in all the remaining corridors of insurgency, kidnappings, robberies, herdsmen and farmers clashes.

“We have reset our national values: corruption is no longer condoned and is no longer seen as normal for public office holders. The agencies of government are no longer equivocal in dealing with anyone who flouts our laws.

“The high and low are receiving jail terms, loots are being recovered, and Nigerians are increasingly displaying the timeless values of honesty, honour and decency. I congratulate us all for making these changes possible.’’

The President said Nigerians can already testify to the infrastructural development across the country with prudent management of resources and the economy, listing roads, railways and improved power supply as signposts of a growing country.

“Our government has succeeded in the last four years in halting national drift, removing the shadow of insecurity and fear dominating our life and reviving our economy from decline to stability and growth,’’ he noted.

Just in: FG, ASUU in Crucial Talks to End Strike

The federal government negotiating team is meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in a bid to end the over one month industrial action that has crippled academic activities in public tertiary institutions.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who is leading the government team, said in an opening remark before the meeting went into closed-doors, that he is hopeful that it would yield positive outcome.

He said his optimism was based on the fact that the federal government has met some of the key demands of the university teachers.

ASUU had on November 4 embarked on a nationwide strike over unfulfilled past agreements by the federal government.

Since the lecturers downed tools, several meetings to end the impasse have ended in deadlock, with the President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, and other leaders of the union insisting that the federal government must fulfill agreements reached with the union in 2009, 2013 and 2017.

While decrying the decay in infrastructure and equipment in public universities, ASUU is demanding N1.1 trillion to fund the university system.
The lecturers are also aggrieved over the failure to pay the arrears of the shortfall in their salaries.

The last meeting between the federal government team and the ASUU delegation ended in a deadlock with the lecturers expressing dissatisfaction.

Giving details on the proceedings at the meeting, Ngige said that both parties have drawn up a work plan or what one can call target to conclude implementation on the issues before Christmas.

As for the dissatisfaction shown by the ASUU leaders, Ngige said: “As a union leader, if one doesn’t get 100% of what he wants, you won’t expect him to be smiling. Any meeting that you see people smiling you know that somebody has cheated the other”

Man flees immediately after killing his tenant’s boyfriend

Man flees immediately after killing his tenant’s boyfriend

A man has allegedly killed his tenant’s boyfriend, Arnold Ogboru in Akwa Ibom after they duo had an altercation over a shared apartment with the lady.

According to the grieving mother, Mrs Miranda Ese Ogboru, who cried out on Facebook over the alleged murder, the suspect, Emmanuel Douglas Okpongete, is currently on the run and she seeks help in tracking him down.

According to the deceased’s sister, Venessa, Okpongete killed her brother, with the assistance of the security guard, before fleeing the scene.

She wrote:

“Okpongete Killed my brother, Arnold, last night, and he is now on the run. All efforts by the police to get to him, have proven abortive.

There was an altercation between them after Arnold tried to talk to him about invading his girlfriends privacy. Arnold’s girlfriend is the tenant to Okpongete. And she told us this story.

She told my family that Okpongete, a 26-year-old native of Uyo Itam, Akwa Ibom state, had refused to hand over the spare keys of her apartment to her and constantly goes into her flat when she is not around.

Arnold was visiting Akwa Ibom for the first time, to pursue a dredging business, his girlfriend Calista serves in Akwa Ibom as well. So they went to a resort together and decided to go back to her flat afterwards.

On getting there, they found the shirt of Okpongete in her room. Calista told my brother that she had no idea how it got there and she confronted Okpongete on why he had gone into her flat again to drop his shirt.

He replied, however, saying it is his apartment and he can do what he likes. My brother watched the whole altercation between his girlfriend and Okpongete (who is now the owner of the house following his fathers death).

Arnold then decided to approach him and get him to hand over the spare keys to his girlfriend, however he became extremely angered and began to insult Arnold. That led to the fight between them.

While the fight was going on the gateman of the compound held Calista down to prevent her from separating the fight. Okpongete hit my brother’s head against the gate and he fell.

Then he went ahead to stay on top his body and began to choke him till he became lifeless. When he saw he was lifeless, they all ran away. A doctor later declared him dead after Calista rushed him to the hospital.”

A lady is of the opinion that no Nigerian lady is safe from ritualists again after her bitter encounter with a gang in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Lady shares her encounter in the hands of ritualists

According to her, the ritualists disguised as potential clients and asked her to meet them in a hotel, only for the narrative to change and one of them she met in the hotel room was trying to hypnotize her.

She then in one way or the other, struggled to leave the room and escaped

See her post below:

In this era of yahoo boys/ritualist, no Nigerian lady is safe. Whether you are materialistic or not is no concern to them. I was at access bank last November or thereabouts and this guy came down from a Jeep and said he’s into magazines and they are auditioning for the face model to cover his next issue.

I told him I’m not a model that I’m actually a makeup artist and If they need one they could holla at me. He said they already have a makeup artist that works for them but if he sees anyone that needs a makeup artist, he would contact me.

I gave him my business card. Hmmm, fast forward to 3rd week in December, he reached out and said his cousin was coming from abroad and they need a makeup artist for the wedding which was to take place on the 2nd Saturday in January (this week). I was happy sef that it was a great way to start this year.

I chatted with the client during Xmas period and he( the said groom) said we’ll meet once I’m back to Ibadan. I got to Ibadan yesterday and when I got back from church the client said I should contact his cousin to give me the info on where to meet.

I messaged him n he said I should take bike to ojoo. On getting to ojoo, he said I should give phone to the bike man n he described where we would drop. That one said 300, I was confused if it was that far. I thought it was Ojo I was going.

I was on the bike n d bike kept on moving for long, the place was really far.

We sha got there, I called the guy n he said someone will come pick me, a lady picked me and led me to a hotel n I was directed to a room, I was told the other party will come too. When I opened the door I found that it was only the guy.

I messaged my client immediately n he said he was stuck up in serious traffic that if they don’t make it till 6 i should leave. It was like 15 minutes to 6. The moment it was 6, I told the guy I was leaving. He stood n said I should hug him, it was wierd. I sha said I can’t.

He said I should sit, that if you are in Rome you behave like a Roman, n in a strange place you have never been before,u obey command. He said he could start shouting I’m a thief and the guys downstairs would beat me n take me to police station or he could pour acid on me.

Me I sha used sharp mouth to tell him that all that because of hug??Please he should let me go. Next thing, he said he knew I will be stubborn n he brought out a tiny bottle which he wrapped in a handkerchief. He said he knows what a drop would do to my face in 30 minutes.

It was at that moment it dawned on me that it was a set up. I started crying and begging. Oga said all I had to do was obey him. I told him I would, he told me to enter toilet. I realized, I could die, I could be used, raped or whatever. I now remembered I was in a hotel & there will be guests.

In the rooms. I immediately kicked the acid off his hands and started screaming while picking my hand bag n opening the door. He was shocked and I opened the door wide. Other guests were rushing out of their rooms I didn’t even wait.

I kept running even security couldn’t stop me. The first bike I got like this took me home straight. God saved me ooo. I’m a regular babe who strives hard to pay my bills myself. At 22, I already have my studio while serving and I sell makeup kits n all. Plus my business is about 1 year 3 months.

Please what is the plight of the regular Nigerian lady with no body guard or anything.

Thanks to all. I’m never gonna make such appointments outside. Whoever cannot come to my studio to meet up should hold body.

Man accuses police officers of using cult group to threaten him

Man accuses police officers

A Nigerian man has accused officers of the Nigerian Police Force at the Lekki Divisional Police station, of using a cult group to threaten him right inside their station.

Man accuses police officers

According to the man identified as Osilo, he had gone to the station to hand over a thief his security guard had apprehended on their premises.

After settling the matter with the Police and agreeing not to take the issue to court, the Policemen at the station eventually asked him for cash, which he freely gave them.

But as he made his way out of the station, he saw an inscription on his car, someone who claimed to be a cultist had written threatening him to meet at a certain location.

The man believed the Policemen at the station must have written that to exploit him further, but they denied having any knowledge of whoever wrote the message despite having the car parked within the premises of the station.

He wrote:

So this morning this morning In Lekki phase 1, i was sleeping when the security man came to wake me up that he caught someone broke into my car with the things he stole from the car and everywhere ransacked, we called the security agency and they called the cops but they had no patrol vehicle as they said, we decided to take him to the Lekki Divisional Police station.

The case was reported, i wrote a statement as the complainant, to cut the story short they asked if i wanted to charge the thief to court and that I’ll have to pay for the transport and some stuffs to be able to charge a thief to court, i told them i don’t want to be the one responsible for sending another man to prison for stealing things i already recovered, they still begged for money anyway cos they found out i just came back from America.

i gave them some money and i wrote a letter to withdraw the case and let everything go, so before i could come back outside one of the policemen went and wrote on my car

“MEET US AT THE ELF BUS STOP SAYS BY AROMATE CONFRATERNITY TODAY OR YOU WILL FINE YOURSELF AS A DEAD MAN BY 11 ON THE DOT signed “

So i went back into the police station to get the attention of the officers and they were all acting like they don’t know who wrote it or what was going on. Who could have come to a police station and write this on the car, like WTF.

This is what Nigerian police has been reduced to, they either find a way to extort you or even kill you for your possession if they have a chance, this is exactly why no one believe in this country no more, this country will never be great, there’s no way it will ever be, politicians aren’t the only problem we have…smfh

Millionaire Finds Out That He’s Not The Father Of His 3 Children, After 10 Years (Photos)

Millionaire Finds Out That He's Not The Father Of His 3 Children

A millionaire has been handed a £250,000 payout by his ex-wife after finding out she betrayed him for almost two decades while he believed he was the father of her three sons, Sun UK has reported.

Richard Mason learned Kate Mason had lied about the paternity when doctors told him he had been infertile since birth in 2016. He made the astounding discovery when he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, and told he couldn’t father children naturally.

Legal documents seen by the Mail on Sunday reveal Mrs Mason declared a sudden interest in Judaism when she first fell pregnant.

She also insisted all three children have Jewish middle names, something Mr Mason now believes is a clue to the identity of the real father.

Mrs Mason initially said “of course the boys are yours, no matter what the science might suggest” when he revealed he knew he couldn’t have conceived them, but later confessed to the betrayal when confronted by her eldest son.

Mr Mason, from Rhos, North Wales, told The Mail on Sunday: “You don’t know what’s real and what isn’t — it’s as if I’m living in The Matrix.

“Someone says to you, ‘All you know and everything you thought solid and true is not real, and never did exist. You are not a father, you are not able to have kids, your name will not continue’.

“I still see what the boys are doing on Facebook and it’s heart-wrenching. It’s all been taken away from me.”

She admitted she had been seeing a man in an on-off affair during the 20-year marriage – but wouldn’t name him.

The 55-year-old wealthy co-founder of internet comparison site MoneySupermarket.com had DNA tests and was heartbroken to find the 19-year-old twins were not his sons.

Their brother, 23, did not provide a sample for a test.

Mr Mason’s family has been torn apart as his relationship with the boys has been destroyed by the revelation.

Due to the latest legal battle in his efforts to get back some of the enormous divorce settlement money and to sue for paternity fraud, two of his sons broke contact with him.

He believes there must have been some doubt in his ex’s mind when she fell pregnant seven years into their marriage, and thinks she “tricked” him into bringing up the boys.

Mrs Mason confessed over six to 12 times she had sex with her colleague, but was adamant he couldn’t be the dad as the pair always used condoms.

Two of the three have broken off all contact with the man they believed was their father for most of their lives.

His ex-wife only confessed ten years after they divorced and he had been ordered to pay a £4million settlement. Mr Mason launched a paternity fraud case, which ended a few weeks ago when his ex agreed to pay an out of court settlement.

She decided to hand back a £250,000 portion of the lump sum after he sought to have the divorce financial settlement “set aside”.

However, the legal case allowed her to keep the biological father’s name out of proceedings.

It is not known if he is aware he is the boys’ dad.

Mrs Mason and her sons declined to comment.

Daddy Freeze reacts to viral video of Pastor Oritsejafor asking Americans to give $5000 to get a mantle that will help them not miss God

OAP and leader of the Free The Sheeple Movement, Daddy Freeze, has reacted to a viral video of former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, asking Americans to give $5000 special seed for a mantle he would give to them so they would not miss God.

In the video, Pastor Oritsejafor could be heard asking members of the Morris Cerullo church to give $5000 so he can give them a spiritual mantle that would make them not miss God.

Reacting to the video on IG, Freeze wrote;

”Dear Ayo,
Did God tell you that he was hungry? If not, please stop making it look like the Lord of Heavens armies is broke or going through a recession!

Which god are you trying to attract with money? The god of 2 Cor 4:4?

An IG user, Jygga Collins, who initially shared the video wrote

Nigerian Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor was in Morris Cerullo’s church in America recently, looking for 90 people to give 5000USD each (450,000USD) for a mantle so they do not miss God. My question is, those that don’t have 5000USD to give, are they going to miss GOD? –

These charlatans have turned Yahweh into a God that needs money(mammon). Is it not written in 1 Peter 1:18 that we were redeemed without perishable things such as silver and gold but with the precious blood of Christ?? “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” –

Why then do people need to pay 5000USD so they don’t miss God???
I guess in America where poverty level is not has high as Nigeria and health care is top notch the only thing to sell to the gullible believers is Salvation. –

I don’t believe God has sent you to collect peoples money so they don’t miss HIM, and like you said in the earlier parts of this video you’re a crazy man Pastor Ayo. JC

‘Don’t allow yourself to be used by any politician’ -Actress, Ini Edo to fans

Beautiful actress Ini Edo is one of Nollywood’s most sought-after actresses today. With over a hundred movies in the kitty, the screen goddess, who’s currently the Special Assistant on Culture & Tourism to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, speaks on her latest movie production, Heaven on My Mind, in partnership with fellow actress, Uche Jombo.

How was 2018 for you, any regrets?

I don’t have any regrets whatsoever. As a matter of fact, 2018 was a great year for me. I’m thankful and hopeful for a better 2019.

Talking about 2019, what should fans expect from you and what are you looking forward to?

My fans should expect nothing short of the best. 2019 is going to be another great year. Like I said earlier, I’m looking forward to a better 2019, not just for me as a person or an actress but also for my fans, friends and well wishes, and, of course, our nation, Nigeria.

As the 2019 general elections draw closer, what do you have to say to your fans and Nigerians at large?

Stay safe and if you must go out to vote, vote right and vote wise. Stay out of trouble. Don’t allow yourself to be used by any politician and avoid anything that can bring you pain and discomfort.

You feature more in movies produced by your friends and this has given rise to speculation that producers can’t afford you…

Well, I wouldn’t say that. I’ve just been featured in a movie I did not produce. It’s a film produced by Mo’ Abudu. So, I won’t say it’s because they can’t afford me. I decided to slow it down a little and just be selective of what I am part of, for obvious reasons. Most times the worst script comes with lots of money. If a story is not so great, a producer would want to use you because he feels he needs somebody like you to bring it to life and they’d want to pay anything just to have you in it, but at the end of the day, when the film comes out, you feel bad you did it. So for me, it’s not just about the money. If I’m passionate about the story, it really doesn’t matter how much I’m being paid. I don’t use money as a yardstick before going into a project. There’ve been some projects where the money wasn’t that great but because I really loved the script, I did it. So in all, I’m just taking my time and being selective.

Why did you choose to go into production?
I think I’m one of the first actors who started movie production. I also think I’m one of the first actors who took their films to cinema. I don’t know if you remember when I did I Will Take My Chances with Emem Isong. And that’s also what gave birth to a new actor, Bryan Okwara. That’s the way I give back to the industry. When you’ve been in an industry for a long time and all you did were things that were handed over to you by others, and you think things should be done in a certain way, you would want to be part of that change you want to see. Now, there’s a journey that’s already on and that’s the cinema culture. When I did I Will Take My Chances, we did not have a lot of cinematographers in Nigeria, so we brought in cinematographers from Hollywood and that was because we wanted to do something different and meet up with international standards. But today, we have so many cinematographers in Nigeria. It cost us so much but it was the beginning of something and now everybody is on it. You just don’t sit down and expect things to be done magically; be part of the change you want to see and you’ll get there somehow. See what’s going on today in the industry. I am proud and grateful to God that I was able to play a role. When we did Knocking On Heaven’s Door, what a lot of people don’t know was that the story just fell on my laps. The owners of that project wanted me to produce it and I brought Emem Isong in and they wanted me to play the lead character and we were going to do the entire song miming thing. For sure I can’t sing so I insisted on using a new actor; they actually wanted me and another guy with a known face but I insisted on bringing in a totally new person on board and that’s what gave rise to Adesua Etomi and Blossom Chukwujekwu. That was their first jobs but today see who they are. I just feel very privileged to make such impact even though it may not be so celebrated but it just feels good to know that I’ve been able to do this. The latest one with Uche Jombo, Heaven On My Mindis mind-blowing.

Why production? Isn’t it possible for one to stick to acting alone?
Why not? It’s very possible. There’s no law that says an actor must produce; it’s a choice. Like I said, if you want change and you want to be part of the bigger picture, you just have to grow and explore. There are some of my colleagues who’ve been there longer than I am but have never produced a film; there’s no law that says you must produce.

Looking at where Nollywood is now, is there something that’s not been done that you’d like to do?
What I’m looking forward to is that day when we’ll get to a point we’ll be making so much income that we could actually live the big names we are known for. In Hollywood for instance, you don’t need to do 20 movies in a year to make it. If you do two films, you’re good to go; that is good compared to us. I’m hoping to see Nollywood get to a point where you do one job in a year and it takes care of the rest. Right now, our films are acceptable everywhere. Our industry has grown, I just want our pockets to grow to that level as well.

And for your pocket to grow to that level, what are the things you think should be done better?

I think distribution should be done better because the more people see the film, the more money you make. Hollywood films are watched all over the world. We haven’t gotten there yet, we are still around Africa and some parts of America I think. But by the time we get to a place where countries that don’t understand Nigerian languages subtitle our films to watch, then, I think we’d be better-off and every other thing will follow.

Military Coup : Gabon officers ‘oust President Ali Bongo’

There is an ongoing military coup in Gabon, as soldiers in the west African country who claimed they are out “to restore democracy”, took control of the national radio station in the early hours of Monday.

Juniors officers say they have seized power in oil-rich Gabon, where the ailing leader’s family has ruled for 50 years.

Tanks and armed vehicles can be seen on the streets of the capital Libreville.

In its statement on Monday, the military officers condemned President Ali Bongo who addressed his compatriots last Monday from Morocco for the first time since suffering a stroke in October. They described the message as “a pitiful sight” and a “relentless attempt to cling onto power.”

Ali Bongo succeeded his father Omar Bongo as president in 2009. He narrowly won re-election in 2016 in a poll marred by violence and accusations of fraud.

Mr Bongo, who has been out of the country for two months, reportedly suffered a stroke in October and received treatment in Morocco.
