Two female students of Akanu Ibiam Poly, Ebonyi State, accuse Marketing Departmental Head of Sexual Harassment

Two weeks after the dismissed Professor of Management and Accounting at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife,Richard Akindele, was arraigned and remanded in prison following alleged sexual harassment of one of his students, two female students of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwanna, Afikpo in Ebonyi State, have cried out for help over alleged sexual harassment and intimidation against them by one of their lecturers.

The two Higher National Diploma (HND II) students identified as Oko Janet Osinachi and Egwu Gladys said the institution’s Head of Department of Marketing (HOD), School of Business Studies, Ezumah Chris Obi, had invited them to hotels at different times, with the intent to sleep with them before he would pass them in his courses and their final year projects, which he was the supervisor of.

The lecturer has however denied the allegation, saying the students chose to meet him at the hotels and that nothing close to their allegations ever happened. The Rector of the Polytechnic, Venerable Ibe-Enwo Ogbonnia, confirmed the development, but claimed he was yet to receive formal complaints from the students, and hence he could not have acted.

Narrating her ordeal, 22-year-old Janet explained that her trouble started when she secured admission into the HND programme in the polytechnic in 2017 through Direct Entry, and she needed to register at the department.

She said:

I had my ND at the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu in Abakalaiki. When I assumed school at the Unwana Polytechnic and I went to the Department for registration, I was directed to see the HOD in the office, and after necessary courtesies, he asked for my number which I gave.

“Ever since then, he kept calling me but I was always avoiding him. I was shocked when I checked my result in the course he took us in Second Semester in HND I, which was Distribution and Management Logistics, and I failed the course. But I didn’t go to him to complain, so I repeated the course this year.”

When it was time for Project Writing Course in First Semester of HND II, Janet said the HOD grouped her among those he would supervise, apparently to make room for close contact again.

She further narrated:

“Like my other colleagues, I suggested my project topic, but the HOD cancelled it. I went with another one the second time, he still cancelled it. He then advised me to write on my file that I was requesting him to help me with a project topic. And, I did just that. When I took my file with the request to him, the HOD then told me that he would speak with me on phone.

So, later that evening, on March 21, 2018, he called me on phone and said I should see him at P-Noble Hotel in Afikpo, some kilometres away from Unwana. Even though I was shocked, I summoned courage and went.

“When I got there, he asked me where I was coming from. I lied to him that I was coming from home and that I live with my parents. I said I was cooking for my mother that day. I lied so that he would know that my mother would be waiting for me to finish the cooking.

Then, while still there he sent the topic to me on my phone, which is; “Impact and Challenges of Self-Promotional-Based Strategies on Brands and Stores Patronages in Urban Areas.”

“He then told me that I failed his course in First Semester and I said yes. He said I caused it and that if I had complied I would not have failed. I said I was sorry. He said as the HOD he has the power to make the decision either to let me graduate or not.

He said he was giving me the last chance and that if I failed to give him chance this time, he would treat me like a stubborn fly. That was the exact statement he made. I said okay sir. Then he told me that there was a burial ceremony he wanted me to accompany him to at Ohofia in Abia State the following day. I told him it would be difficult because I didn’t know what my mother would say.

Then I lied to him that my mother was calling me and so I had to go. The following day, I sent him a message that I could not make it because my mother did not agree that I should go. He did not reply the message.”

According to Janet, on another day, the lecturer called her around 10am to see him at another place called Maria Island Resort, which is said to belong to popular American returnee in the community, Maria Nwachi nee Egwu, who is also known as ‘Afikpo Chic’. On getting to the resort, she said she was directed upstairs to the compound and that as soon as she entered the room, she saw the HOD sitting on a chair.

She added:

“Before setting out to meet him, I told my elder sister who kept monitoring me. She initially said I should not go because we already got to know that the HOD was living at the resort. At that stage I didn’t want to involve my parents because I thought it was something I could handle by playing him and that he would forget it. So, he asked me to sit and I sat on the bed but near the door. He started to discuss with me, lit his cigarette and started smoking. On my failure to attend the burial ceremony with him, he said I was a bush girl and that why should I have told my mother that I would be accompanying a male lecturer to a party? He said why didn’t I lie to my parents. And, at point I replied I didn’t remember to lie. He said even if he was my mother would he have allowed me?

“Thereafter, he demanded for what I had written and I gave the file to him. He looked through and dropped on the bed. Then, he stood up and was moving close to me, so I stood up and started begging him to forgive him. Then he requested for my phone and that he wanted to delete his number from my phone. I think he thought I was recording him but when I gave him the phone he did not see anything recorded and dropped my phone on the bed. He held my hand and I began to cry and knelt down. He asked me to stand and started telling me how much he loved me and how he would make sure I become the envy of everyone in the school. I then told him I was engaged to my fiancé and told him his name – Ekenna Okeke, a non-academic staffer, who works in Administrative Section. He was angry and said the guy is a boy to him and that how could I ever thought of ending up with such a man that has nothing to offer me. I told him the guy had been trying for me since and that I don’t want to disappoint him. He then said even if anything should happen, the guy would not know anything. I said no, and that I could not lie to the guy.

“Then because I told my elder sister before coming, she started calling me and I said my mother was calling me. He then said I should touch him and I said no. Then he held me very tight and said I should not open my mouth. As soon as I wanted to cry out, he said everything was over and deleted his contact on my phone. He said I should never disturb him again and that henceforth, he would start treating me like an enemy.”

Janet said since then the HOD had refused to check her project and that whenever she went to him for correction, he shouted at her and chased her out of his office. However, through the help of other lecturers, she was able to complete the work without the approval of the supervisor.

Meanwhile, on November 6 and 7 when the external supervisors visited the department to assess the graduating students’ projects, the HOD refused to present Janet for the exercise.

Earlier, Gladys, who had noticed that Janet was also not making any meaningful progress in her project work, approached her to find out why. But, while sharing their experiences, they duo discovered that they had similar problem — suffering the consequences of rejecting the HOD’s advances. According to Gladys, her own trouble had started during her National Diploma days in 2013, when the lecturer approached her to date him.

“He collected my GSM number and was always calling on the phone. One weekend he called me and said I should come and spend the weekend with him. He said did I know who was speaking and he introduced himself, and said I should be prepared to come to wherever he was to spend the weekend with him but I refused. So, since then he didn’t disturb me again.

She said they never had anything together until she returned for her HND programme in 2017.

She explained:

“When I returned for my HND and he was already the HOD, he told me if I remembered that we had an unfinished business and that he believes that I am already mature enough now. Then he collected my number and each time he called he would ask me to meet him in his apartment and I would say okay, but I would not go.

“So, when we were grouped for project supervision, I found myself in his group and then came another round of troubles. While attending to others he would always chase me out of his office.

“When I discussed with one of my lecturers I was advised to honour his invitation so that we could even know what he wanted. So, sometime in September this year, I went to him at the Maria Island Resort. As soon as I sat down, he wanted to grab me, I stood up and said I was not well.”

Gladys also explained that her elder brother, Mr. Ogbonna Egwu, soon learnt of the development and called the HOD and that the lecturer became incoherent on phone.

“He told my brother that I paid my school fees late and that was why he didn’t allow me to defend my project. But my brother said I was one of the first to pay fees because he was the one that paid for me,” 26-year-old Gladys said.

A yet-to-be-identified caller had also taken the matter up during a phone-in programme on an Enugu-based Dream FM Radio Station, and the development had compelled the institution’s management to commission three lecturers to quickly assess the two students’ projects and grade them without the external supervisors.

Following the Deputy Rector’s advice, both Janet and Gladys also submitted written petitions dated November 7, to the management of the institution through the Offices of the Dean, School of Business Studies and the Dean of the Students’ Affairs.

Lady arrested for impersonating Buhari’s wife says Aisha Buhari’s sisters and Babachir Lawal are her accomplices

The Department of State Services (DSS) yesterday paraded one Amina Mohammed for allegedly impersonating the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari.

While parading the suspect before newsmen, the DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya, said Mohammed impersonated Aisha Buhari to defraud one Alexander Chika Okafor (aka Chicason) of N150 million.

The suspect (Vanguard)

Mr. Afunanya said ;

“The woman who is being paraded has adopted various aliases and used the same false identities to defraud several unsuspecting persons before she was discovered. She used the false identity to evade protocol and scrutiny thus gaining unauthorized access into the Villa and particularly the residence of the First Lady and wife of the president, Hajia Aisha Buhari. She took advantage of the fact that personalities as First Ladies, Ministers and certain categories of officials are not taken through rigorous protocol and security checks at the Villa posts.

Investigation has revealed that the First Lady was away on Lesser Hajj and not in the Villa during the period. Okafor had complained that he was fleeced of over N150 million in respect of a Court of Appeal property in Lagos which Amina had promised to help him buy through the First Lady. The property was said to have been part of those under the Presidential Implementation Committee on Lease of Federal Government Properties. Investigation has shown that this unholy enterprise is not to the knowledge of the First Lady. What Amina simply did was to use the First Lady’s name and Office as bait to lure and defraud her victims.”

When interrogated, the suspect said

“The DSS did not arrest me. I came here on their invitation. I am not a fraudster, the sisters of the First Lady is involved in this business. I cannot accept this allegation. The former SGF, Babachir Lawal is involved in this fraud. Mariatu Aisha’s sister is involved. I did not dupe Chikason because he usually gives bribe to buy federal government property. The Directors in the ministry have been involved in getting bribe before bidding is concluded. I cannot allow anybody to put me to shame to the whole world,” she said.

“Why I engaged in money ritual” – 300lvl undergraduate

Police operatives at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested a 300-level political science student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, and four others for engaging in money ritual, Punch reports.

The student, Victor Nnacheta, 20, from Aguleri in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, was said to have consulted two Abeokuta, Ogun State-based Islamic clerics, Kabiru Badmos and Nurudeen Shodaolu, who undertook to perform a money-making ritual for him with a human skull and other body parts for N250,000.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the zone, Dolapo Badmus, said on Monday that the clerics consulted two men, Olarewaju Jimoh and Mayewunmi Lukmon, who worked at a cemetery to exhume dead bodies for them.

She revealed that the skull and other human parts were grinded and mixed with black soap for Nnacheta to use before going to his Bet9ja shop.

Badmus stated,

“A modest achievement we have made is that of a 20-year-old man, who said he wanted to become a billionaire overnight. He consulted some herbalists/Islamic clerics, who asked him to get a human skull and other body parts.

“The herbalists/clerics hired two men, who work in a cemetery. The two men were able to exhume dead bodies. The two men confessed that they gave out skulls, which the herbalists/clerics grinded and mixed with black soap.

“In the process, the police got information about them and arrested the suspects.”

Nnacheta told PUNCH that he had asked the clerics to make him prosperous in his Bet9ja business as he had no parents.

He noted that he had paid the clerics to prepare the concoction that would make him rich before the police arrested them.

The businessman and his herbalist, Amos Suleiman were arrested by the police for being in possession of human skull and palms which they wanted to use for money ritual.

Bamidele explained that some policemen caught him with the human parts on his way to the house of the herbalist when he was taking the skull and the palms to Amos.

300-pound woman kills her boyfriend by sitting on him

A 300-pound woman has admitted killing her boyfriend by sitting on him until he suffocated – Windi Thomas, 44, pleaded guilty to the third-degree murder of Keeno Butler, also 44, Monday, and is set to be jailed for 18 to 36 years, Metro UK reports.

Thomas, of Erie, Pennsylvania, stabbed Butler in the hand then battered him with a table leg after a night’s drinking in March this year.

Her lawyers insisted the killing was unintentional, and said that Thomas only killed Butler – who weighed 120 pounds – after collapsing on top of him while drunk. But prosecutors highlighted how she had also beaten and stabbed him.

After Butler’s death, an autopsy ruled he had died of ‘respiratory insufficiency secondary to blunt force trauma to the neck and thoracic compression, exacerbated by blunt force trauma to the head.’

Thomas dialed 911 after the slaying and screamed ‘I killed my boyfriend.’ Cops who attended the scene found a table leg with bolts protruding covered with blood.

The Ogun State Police command has arrested Victor Nnachata, a 20-year-old 300-level Political Science student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, who revealed that he went to a herbalist because he wanted charms that would make him become a billionaire.

Victor was arrested alongside 4 others suspects in Ogun State. They are: Kabiru Badmos, Nurudeen Shodaolu, Olarewaju Jimoh (a cemetery guard) and Mayewunmi Lukmon.

Nnachata, who came all the way from Onitsha to Abeokuta, in search of the herbalist, disclosed that the man was introduced to him by his friend called Gabriel. He explained that when he met Badmos, the man presented three different types of money-making ritual to him. He was asked to pick one. “I’m into NaijaBet game, but the business was not doing well the way I wanted it.” He said.

“I discussed with Gabriel on how to move it forward. That was when he gave me the phone number of Badmos. When I got to Badmos’ house, I explained everything to him. He gave me three different money rituals to choose from. The first one entails swallowing a bird, and to do that, I would have to use alcohol. The second option would only work for a month, while the third option was that he would prepare soap for me.”

“Badmos said that I would be using the soap to bathe every day before going to my shop,” Nnachata said. The suspect further said that immediately he and Badmos agreed on a price, he transferred N250,000 to the herbalist.

He added: “I decided to embark on the journey in order to grow my business and attract more customers. Most importantly, I wanted to become a billionaire through NaijaBet game.”

On his own part, Badmos said: “When I noticed that I needed human skull for the preparation of the charm, I contacted another herbalist who is a friend to buy it for me. The human skull was bought for N30,000. After they brought it, I grounded it with some other ingredients and added it to a black soap.”

The suspects were arrested after the police received a tip-off that a cemetery guard desecrated a grave in order to steal a human skull.

New evidence proves the bible is real as Pontius Pilate’s ring is found in Israel (photos)

A ring believed to have been worn by Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect who ordered the crucifixion of Jesus, has been found in Israel, archaeologists say.

The 2,000-year-old bronze ring was first unearthed 50 years ago at Herodium, a fortress built by King Herod, but archaeologists recently examined it and found the word, “Pilatus” on the ring. The writing was found after scientists from the Israel Antiquities Authority cleaned and photographed the ring, which showed a wine vessel called a “krater”, Metro UK reports.

Professor Danny Schwartz told Israeli news outlet Haaretz:

I don’t know of any other Pilatus from the period and the ring shows he was a person of stature and wealth.

Roi Porat, director of the dig at Herodium said, “the personal connection just cries out”. But others suggest that the ring might have been used by a member of Pilate’s staff to stamp documents.

The researchers wrote:

Simple all-metal rings were primarily the property of soldiers, Herodian and Roman officials, and middle-income folk of all trades and occupations.

It is therefore unlikely that Pontius Pilatus, the powerful and rich prefect of Judaea, would have worn a thin, all copper-alloy sealing ring.

‘Buhari, save my life’ -Delta Monarch cries out as youths dethrone him

The traditional rulership tussle in Agbarho Kingdom, Ughelli North council area of Delta state escalated further on Monday as youths of the kingdom reportedly installed Chief Williams Onokpite as new Osuvie (monarch) of the kingdom.

Before the reported installation of Chief Onokpite as new king, the youths had reportedly banished the embattled Osuvie, HRM, Chief Samson Oghughunwa, who had fled the kingdom to save his life.

A source, who spoke under conditions of anonymity, told the Nation that the new king was the chief kingmaker and next in line to Chief Oghughunwa.

Meanwhile, addressing journalists in his place of refuge in Uvwie council area, the embattled and deposed Osuvie of Agbarho Kingdom, Chief Oghughunwa, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Delta state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, to come to his aid.

The embattled monarch said he managed to escape assassination when suspected hired killers invaded his palace on Sunday, adding that those who had been sponsoring his ordeal were both after his life and the destruction of the kingdom.

He said;

“I learnt that some armed youths were coming to the palace, barely 30 minutes when I got the information, they were already at the palace, but I had to vanish. My two wives were held at gun point and traditional beads worth several millions of naira were stolen during the invasion.

“My security details were beaten up, my children laptops were carted away. Properties worth over N30 million were collected from the palace during yesterday’s attack. The matter is now with UPU and the Delta State Governor, Dr. Okowa.

“I’m calling on President Buhari, Governor Okowa and all the security chiefs to come save my life and the kingdom from the activities of criminals and ritualists who want to kill me. Soldiers and policemen came and they saw these youths were arms and ammunitions but did nothing. No arrest was made because they got a directive from a retired military general who is against me.

“So, I am crying to the FG, heads of army, navy, police, DSS and the state government to come and save Agbarho from a hand of a retired General. Once the matter is settled, it is what the retired General says that this group of people who do not want peace will do”.
