The West African Examination Council, WAEC, has vowed to publish names of students, staff, and invigilators involved in examination malpractice.

The examination body made this known yesterday as they decried the rate of examination malpractice among students.

In a statement by WAEC’s head, Public Affairs, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, the decision to publish offenders was part of the 66th Nigeria Examinations Committee, NEC, of WAEC’s resolution held at Ogba, Lagos.

Ojijeogu said:

Candidates, invigilators and supervisors caught aiding and abetting examination malpractice, WAEC, ANCOPSS and the States Ministry of Education will publish their names to serve as a deterrent for others.

States Ministry of Education and school principals are to check the ugly trend by looking at the calibre and integrity of teachers nominated as supervisors for public examinations.

The Committee observed that even with the commendable efforts of the Council in the fight against examination malpractice, the menace is still on the increase.

There was high rate of impersonation as a form of examination malpractice during the WASSCE examinations.

In the course of considering the various reported cases of malpractice, the Committee, after diligent deliberations, approved appropriate sanctions in all established cases of malpractice, as prescribed by the Rules and Regulations governing the conduct of the Council’s examinations. It approved that the entire results of candidates involved in proven cases, which attracts Cancellation of Entire Results, CER, be cancelled, while subject results of those involved in proven cases, which attract Cancellation of Subject Results, CSR, be similarly cancelled.

The trial of Peter Neilsen accused of the grisly murder of his wife Alizee and their daughter Petra is still ongoing.

Recall that Nielson was arrested and arraigned at the Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing the singer and their daughter in their Lagos home in April. During the court briefing, the police prosecutor, CSP Effiong Asuquo, told the court, that Peter hit his wife’s head on the wall, resulting in her death. He added that the Danish man poisoned their daughter afterwards, before dragging the bodies to the kitchen.

Now, LIB reports that their househelp, Evelyn Gimba, who speaks only Hausa, has testified at the Igbosere High Court in Lagos yesterday, Tuesday October 9th.

Asked if she had ever witnessed the couple fight: ”I never witnessed any violence between my madam (deceased) and the husband (defendant). They were always happy and I never saw Peter (defendant) in a drunken state.”

Asked how she discovered Neilson and the bodies: “I tried to open the door leading to the kitchen but it didn’t open so I went downstairs to the palour. I called one of the children’s number but it was switched off, I knocked at the door several times before it was opened for me. I then asked the girl that opened the door what type of sleep she was still sleeping up to that time. The girl then told me that my madam and her husband were fighting the previous night, I saw little bruises on the defendant’s forehead and hand when he came out from his room. I went to the children’s room for my duties and then l heard Peter shouting from the kitchen, ‘Jesus’.

The case has been adjourned till today October 10th for further hearing.

According to a report by Premium Times, the Federal Government of Nigeria has said after consultations it proposed N24,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants.

The Minister of Labour and employment, Chris Ngige, stated this Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Mr. Ngige was responding to media reports quoting the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, saying that the tri-partite committee discussing the demand for new minimum wage has agreed to increase it from the current N19,200 to N30,000.

“Such information is not true,” Mr Ngige said.

The minister said when the committee reconvened on October 5, after the NLC had called off its nationwide strike, “ the organised labour came down to N30,000, the organised private sector came down to N25,000.”

He also said the federal government had to consult with the 36 state governors. After the consultations, he said, the federal government proposed N24,000 while governors proposed N20,000.

Mr Ngige said the government is therefore still consulting and negotiations is ongoing.

He said in accordance with Convention 131 of International Labour Organisation, the most important thing to consider in fixing the new minimum wage is the ability to pay.

The NLC had initially proposed a N50,000 minimum wage for workers, a move opposed by many state governors, many of whom are unable to regularly pay the current N18,000 minimum wage.

A dreaded 419 shrine discovered by Police detectives in Osogbo, Osun state capital has been destroyed and one person was arrested at the shine.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr Fimihan Adeoye said the shrine was being used for organised crime by fraudsters.

CP Adeoye who led the operation said that police detectives are on the trail of other members of the gang that escaped arrest.

The police boss assured that other fraudsters that escaped would be apprehended. He warned Nigerians to always be wary of fraudsters.

The suspect, Oyegbile Durojaye confessed that the shrine was set up to dupe people on the pretext of helping them overcome their problems.

A man identified as Rufus Kehinde Daramola, has been accused of using his daughter for money ritual. The man who hails from Ekiti state was said to have made an attempt to rape his 18-year-old daughter identified as Taiwo, who passed away two days ago after suffering from an undisclosed sickness since January.

According to Omolayo Sussan Omowumi who shared the news online, when the man was confronted with the accusation of using his daughter for ritual, he allegedly said she can die – which made him to be summoned by traditional rulers but he refused to show up.

Report has it that the man is currently on the run.

The man you see in the pictures is Mr Rufus Kehinde Daramola of Awo Ekiti in Irepodun/Irepodun local government, with his wife Mrs Esther Ojuolape Daramola who is my aunt and their first daughter Taiwo whose Kehinde died at birth. The man left my aunt with a rich lady when my aunt was pregnant with the twins and returned after several years to apologise and my aunt took him in, they legalised their marriage and had two more children and they both lived inside the 4 bedroom flat my aunt built while the man fled with another lady.

The man tried forcing his daughter Taiwo to bed thrice chasing her around the house without succeeding and will still tell her not to tell her mum, she never mentioned it until it was time for her to die. Her sickness started in January when she suddenly collapsed in the kitchen and she was rushed to the hospital where they told them she needed blood that her blood has drained.

It was so surprising that how can that happen when she never felt sick, since then till yesterday when she finally gave up the ghost, they have been taking her from one hospital to another and giving her blood since her blood was always drained, they spent over a month in Teaching hospital Ibadan and the husband did not check on them,he was flirting around with ladies.

While taking her to different churches, all they were saying was that the father has used her already for money ritual,and my aunt said he has always been desperate to get rich and when they confronted him, he said “if she wants to die, let her die”, they reported him to some traditional rulers and they summoned him but he never showed up, rather he took to his heels.

The girl finally died yesterday and was buried and yet he refused to show up.

Taiwo was 18 years and has a striking resemblance with her father who has no known job, it’s my aunt who gave him money several times to start a business but spent the money lavishly, my aunt also bought him a vehicle to use for commercial purposes and he sold it.

He has tried raping at least 3 of his wife’s younger sisters and also broke in while the wife was with their daughter at the hospital.

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Minna has ordered the remand in prison custody of a 32-year-old farmer after he pleaded guilty to a charge of rape.

Rilwanu Salisu is being tried over the rape of a 78-year-old woman., contrary to section 282 of the penal code law.

According to the police, Salisu injured and damaged the elderly woman’s private parts.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Mr Daniel Ikwoche, the victim’s son, Mukhtar Garba, reported the matter at the Nasko Police Station on Sept. 14.

Ikwoche quoted the complainant as alleging that the accused person, a resident of Kwada village in Magama Local Government Area, entered into the room of his mother, while she was asleep, and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

He further quoted the complainant as saying that the victim sustained injuries in her private part and was bleeding.

When the charge was read to the accused person, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

However, the presiding chief magistrate, Nasiru Muazu, declined to take the plea of the accused person because his court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

Muazu directed the Police to forward a duplicate copy of the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

He, thereafter, ordered the accused person to be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the advice, and adjourned the case to Oct. 25, for further mention.
