Abuja man entertains friends with drinks worth N12,000, tries to escape without paying

NAN reports that an Abuja man has been caught as he attempted to flee after he and his friends consumed some drinks he refused to pay for.

The man identified as Chukwunonso Obi of Utako Village, Abuja bought drinks for himself and friends at a bar, but attempted to escape afterwards without paying.

During his arraignment, Prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, told the court that on July 20, Chukwunoso bought drinks for himself and his friends worth N12,000 from Natasha Obi’s shop in Utako village.

Obatomi said that after Chukwunoso and his friends consumed the drinks, he dishonestly refused to pay for the drinks and escaped from the shop.

The prosecutor said the convict was caught in the process of escaping from the shop, adding that the convict made a confessional statement during police investigation.

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced 32-year-old Chukwunoso Obi to four months’ imprisonment for cheating.

Chukwunoso, who resides at Idu Karmo, Abuja, was sentenced on a count of cheating.

The Judge, Ahmed Ado, however, gave him an option of N5,000 fine and ordered the convict to pay the sum of N12,000 to the complainant as compensation.

The convict had earlier pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

Ado said that the punishment would have been stiffer if the convict had not saved the court the rigour of protracted prosecution. He also warned the convict to be of good behaviour.

Obatomi said the offence contravened Section 322 of the Penal Code.

Nigerian man Olayinka Olaniyi, defrauds US Universities of $6million

A Nigerian man, identified as Olayinka Olaniyi, has been been pronounced guilty of defrauding universities in the United States, and is due to be sentenced to jail.

The 34-year-old was living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at the time he committed the fraud, alongside his partner-in-crime, 29-year-old Damilola Solomon Ibiwoye.

Both of them were extradited to the US to face the charges.

Olaniyi and Ibiwoye were convicted of sending scam emails targeted at college and university employees, after which they obtained their login details, which they used to steal payroll deposits.

They also engaged in online dating scams to lure innocent victims into releasing their account details, into which deposits from the illegally-obtained funds were made.

While Olaniyi is scheduled to be sentenced on October 22, 2018, at 10a.m. before US District Judge Steve C. Jones, Ibiwoye, who had earlier pleaded guilty to the offence, had been sentenced on January 31, 2018 to three years and three months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

Sharing information on their arrest and subsequent convictions, a release by the Department of Justice, US. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia, dated Monday, August 13, 2018, quoted US Attorney Byung J. ‘BJay’ Pak, as saying:

“These defendants used trickery to lure and exploit their unsuspecting victims, but they will now face the consequences of their scheme in federal prison.”

According to Pak, the duo were behind “phishing scams” that targeted institutions in the US, including the Georgia Institute of Technology (“Georgia Tech”) and the University of Virginia.

The statement read: “A ‘phishing scam’ is the act of sending fraudulent emails that appear to come from legitimate enterprises for the purpose of tricking the recipients into providing personal information, including usernames and passwords.

“Olaniyi and Ibiwoye directed phishing emails to college and university employees. Once they had possession of employee logins and passwords, they were able to steal payroll deposits by changing the bank account into which the payroll was deposited. Also, while logged into the university system through the stolen logins and passwords, these defendants were able to gain access to employee W2 forms, which they used to file fraudulent tax returns. The attempted theft was over $6 million.

“The stolen funds were routed into U.S. bank accounts, and the evidence showed that access to these bank accounts was acquired through the use of romance scams, where fraudsters pose on dating sites and apps as potential partners to gain the trust of their victim. At some point, the fraudster will make a request to deposit money into their victim’s account and claim to need all of the account information, including their account number, routing number, passwords, and answers to security questions. In this case, all of that information was then used to funnel the proceeds of theft through those accounts and out of the country.”

Speaking on the arrest, J.C. ‘Chris’ Hacker, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Atlanta Division, expressed his organisation’s determination to “arrest criminals who believe they can hide out on the internet, protected by geographic boundaries, and prey on the American people and our institutions”.

He also praised what he described as “the benefits of global cooperation between the United States and international law enforcement”.

According to the release, the case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey A. Brown, Deputy Chief of the Complex Frauds Section, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura D. Pfister handled the prosecution.

7 year old girl left in severe pains after being defiled by a 40 year old man

It was quite a tearful day on the 13th of August when a 7-year-old girl was seen crying uncontrollably after she was allegedly defiled by her 40-year-old neighbor, amidst fears that he would evade justice.

The incident according to reports, happened at Precious Seed close, Oworo, Lagos – it was gathered that the suspect identified as Wale, had been doing it for long and the mother of the victim refused to take a decisive action.

However, things got escalated on Monday after other neighbors heard the cry of the victim, Esther – Wale was promptly arrested and dragged to the Alonge police station, Oworo.

The girl was thereafter rushed to the hospital, but the fear now is that the suspect will bribe his way out if the state government doesn’t take up the matter.

Plus-Size woman bathed with acid by her younger ex-lover in Anambra State (Graphic Photo)

A woman identified as Nkiru Okoye is currently being treated in a hospital after she was reportedly attacked with acid by her ex-lover in Anambra state.

It was gathered that the woman had been formerly married, but broke up with her spouse, before falling in love with the said ex-lover.

Reports have it that the said young man is actually younger than Nkiru, hence his family insisted they put an end to the relationship as their son would never marry an older woman. The lady’s family also concurred, but the young man wouldn’t give up, it was said.

According to Tobenna Obiano, things got so bad when the lady insisted that they must part ways to respect their families and their excuse of age. But the young man insisted that if he doesn’t end up with the lady, no one else would have her.

It was alleged that he had once attacked her. He had sneaked into Nkiru’s room at night and tried to strangle her. Neighbors rescued her but she never made any formal report either to the local vigilante or to the police.

Soon after the said incident, the young man sneaked into her room again through the back door, and as Nkiru was about unlocking her door, he poured a bowl of raw acid on her, which ran down through her ear, neck region, breast to her back section

He poured a second one again on her, extending from her back down to all-over her buttocks and even towards her laps. The lady has since been transferred from a hospital in Awka to an Orthopedic hospital in Enugu state ,where she’s currently being treated.

Priyanka Chopra flaunts Nick Jonas’ engagement ring for first time

Indian Actress, Priyanka Chopra has confirmed her engagement to Nick Jonas, as she flaunted their engagement ring for the first time.

Fellow Actress, Raveena Tandon posted a picture of her with Priyanka, her left arm was wrapped around Raveena’s neck, placing her ring finger on full display.

From the picture, it is clear to be an engagement ring and it looks like the youngest Jo Bro shelled out big time based on how big it is.

Now, we’re not jewelers or anything but this bling doesn’t appear to be as elaborate as the one Joe got for Sophie late last year.

See the photo below:

Nick and Priyanka, 36, first sparked romance rumours at the 2017 Met Gala when they walked the red carpet together – however, Quantico star Chopra claimed it was because they were both dressed in Ralph Lauren.

This news of their engagement came only two months after the pair started dating—but it seems that since they got together, the two have been pretty much inseparable, heading to dates in both New York City and Los Angeles and even travelling to India together in June so that Jonas could meet Chopra’s mother.

However, in May this year, it was reported that the pair were ‘casually dating’ – which soon rocketed to ultimate bae behaviour when Priyanka Chopra attended Nick’s cousin’s wedding.

If these reports are true, there are now two Jonas brothers engaged at this time—with Nick’s brother Joe proposing to his Game of Thrones girlfriend, Sophie Turner late last year.

Accusations of theft and domestic violence – Nicki minaj and Her ex, Safaree fight dirty on Twitter.

Nicki Minaj and ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels are having a go at each other on Twitter, and it’s getting intense.

Minaj might not have called out Samuels in her new song “Barbie Dreams,” but she didn’t hesitate to make accusations against him in a series of tweets.

The ex-couple did not name each other in their tweets, but they seem to respond back and forth to the other throughout all the tweets. The two began their relationship in 2000, but they called it quits in 2014.

Assault and theft claims

Safaree Samuels’ most serious allegation in the tweet storm was that Minaj assaulted him during an altercation. “Remember the night you cut me and I almost died,” he tweeted.

“The police and ambulance had to take me out the crib on a stretcher and I had to lie and tell them I was trying to kill myself so they wouldn’t take you to jail. When things like that start happening more than once it’s time to dip.”

Minaj wasn’t having it, accusing Samuels of theft.

“U stole my card & told me you thought it was an account with “free money” that I didn’t know about,” she tweeted. “On God. God will strike you down & more for lying. Ha! Stop saying u packed & left ! On Jesus u came to my house CRYING BEGGING to go w/ me to Europe to the EMA’s. I said NO DUMMY.”

Tramadol Overdose! Kidnapper who fell asleep while abducting a Pharmacist is dead!

A suspected Kidnapper who was arrested in a botched kidnap attempt in Owo is dead, following complications that arose from a high intake of Tramadol tablets.

NAN reports that the suspect had been unconscious since his arrest over the August 5 incident at a chemist in Owo.

Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, made the death public while speaking with the NAN on Tuesday in Akure.

According to Joseph, the suspect died at Owo General Hospital where medical personnel had battled to revive him.

“The suspect died nine days after we arrested him; we thought he would be revived so that he could help us in our investigation. Unfortunately, he died yesterday (Monday).

“This could be connected with his suspected high intake of Tramadol.

“We are using this opportunity to further educate the public, especially parents, to monitor their wards and the kind of company they keep,’’ he said.

NAN recalls that suspected kidnappers had stormed Chinery Pharmacy in Owo township with the intention of kidnapping the pharmacist.

The pharmacist, on sighting the suspects with arms, was said to have escaped through an exit door at the back of the chemist.

The suspects later snatched a Bajaj motorcycle from one Daodu Wale who came to the chemist to buy drugs.

While one of the suspects fell and was arrested, two accomplices escaped on the motorcycle.

One cut-to-size locally-made gun and 400mg of Tramadol tablets were recovered from the suspect.

He was said to have slipped into a coma since his arrest until his death on Monday evening.
