Bovi calls out Ex-schoolmate who stole his provisions 24 years ago

Bovi has hilariously called out an ex-schoolmate who allegedly stole from him some 24 years ago.

In his hilarious narration, Bovi explained how he had gone on hunger strike to save some tin of milk and a box of sugar for the last week in school, only for the items to be stolen by the unidentified thief in what he describes as ‘one of the worlds unsolved crimes’.

See his story below:

“To that my hostel mate that stole my provision in boarding house when I was in SS1. It’s been 24 years now. I still haven’t forgotten. (My pack of St. Louis Sugar and new can of peak milk). I saved those two through hunger pangs and days and weeks and months of starvation.

“I wanted to enjoy my last week in school and you robbed me of those rare pleasures. Know that I woke up today and remembered and I took off my clothes to commit that crime you did me to the hands of the spiritual. I don’t know you but you know yourself.

“I consider it as one of the worlds unsolved crimes. Your day of reckoning will surely come. You will see milk and sugar in abundance but you will not be able to drink it. Amen”

SARS Officers allegedly torture driver over lost bag that owner misplaced at Airport, SARS denies allegation

A Taxify driver, John Otuechere, who was wrongly accused by his passenger of stealing her bag and eventually tortured by the SARS operatives she reported to, has filed for charges over violation of his human rights.

The driver added that he was arrested, detained and tortured on the order of one Mrs Alice Isah.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Isah who came back into the country from training in Dubai on Sunday, July 15, had called the Taxify driver to pick her up from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and drop her off at her residence on Lekki Gardens Estate, Lagos State.

Otuechere said while they were on the way, his car developed a fault which prompted him to park to examine the vehicle.

He said:

“We were on the Third Mainland Bridge when my car started making an unusual sound. I did not stop because it was dangerous; so I managed it until we left the bridge.

“I eventually parked beside a RRS Patrol vehicle to examine the car. While examining the car, a guy crossed over from the other side of the road to assist me. I don’t know him, but he said he was a mechanic, and we discovered that only one nut was left holding the tyre to the bolts on the driver side.

“The woman (Isah) at this point got down from the car to observe what was going on. She saw that we had to unscrew one nut from the other tyres to fasten the tyre on the driver side to the vehichle. I gave the man N100 and he crossed back to the other side of the road before we moved on.”

The 37-year-old driver said they had no other stopover till they got to Isah’s residence where they brought down her luggage. He said the passenger, at this point, discovered that one of her bags had gone missing.

Otuechere said he suggested taking her back to the airport to check whether she forgot the bag, adding that instead, Isah accused him of conniving with the mechanic to steal her bag.

He said:

“I told her that I would take her to the airport and back for free, but she insisted that she personally put the bag in the boot of my car.

“She held me and started slapping me, calling me a thief. One of her neighbours and the estate’s chief security officer accompanied her, and I was taken to the Ogombo Police Station.

“The second day, when the policeman who investigated the case suggested that we searched for the bag at my house and the airport, she said he was supporting me and she petitioned the state police command and the case was transferred to Ikeja.

“Immediately I got to SARS in Ikeja, a policeman, identified as Omoleme, hit me many times with an iron bar to make me confess in the presence of the woman. He said he would kill me and nothing would happen. I was in tears because of the pain; my blood was all over the floor and I was told to pull off my dress and start cleaning it.

“I was taken to the man in charge of SARS; when I tried to explain to him that I was innocent, he ordered his men to hang me because I was not saying the truth.

“SARS cell is a graphic picture of hell; I saw over 70 people inside one room and immediately I entered, I was welcomed with several blows, slaps and kicks.”

The Abia State indigene said it took the intervention of his lawyer before the SARS operatives agreed to search for the bag at the airport.

He added that the bag was eventually found and recovered at the airport where the woman forgot it.

Otuechere, whose two fingers had been broken during the torture, said he wanted justice and compensation for being humiliated and tortured for a crime he did not commit.

He said:

“When my lawyer saw my condition, she was annoyed with the officers for torturing me without investigation. She insisted that they should search for the bag at the airport; so a policeman went with my sister. I was told that the bag was found at the airport.

“When they returned, I was released. The woman has not called to apologise; even the officers of SARS did not apologise for torturing me without investigation. I want justice, I demand a written apology from F-SARS and Mrs Alice Isah for wrongful accusation, detention and torture.

“I also demand N10m compensation for my inability to provide for my family because of the torture.

Otuechere’s sister, Chika, said Isah was not remorseful of what she did to her brother after they recovered the bag at the airport.

Chika said:

“When we got to the airport, we went to where they normally put missing luggage. We didn’t even stress ourselves before we found the bag there. The airport officers told us that they picked it on the floor of the airport.

“The woman was not remorseful about what she caused. The SARS officers were even harassing me despite knowing that she was the one who forgot the bag.

“They broke my brother’s fingers because of this issue. I want the government to fight for us. They should end SARS, they are killers.

Isah, however, said she never took the law into her own hand, adding that she involved the police because she needed them to recover her bag which contained vital document.

Isah said:

“The car started jerking on Third Mainland Bridge and he stopped to examine what happened and discovered it was the tyre. I had to tell him to manage it till we left the bridge.

“After disembarking the bridge, one strange guy came and I saw them looking at the tyre. The driver told me that it was some missing nuts that caused the problem.

“When we got to my residence, we could not locate the bag. Because of those two stopovers and the strange fellow, I thought that that was how my bag got missing.”

Isah said she reported the case at the Ogombo Police Station, where Otuechere was detained, adding that she reported to SARS because she urgently needed her bag.

“I was the one that went to the SARS to report. When they heard from me and John, they decided that we should go to the airport where the bag was found. I don’t know how to explain how I felt when I saw the bag at the airport. I did not torture him; I only reported the matter to the law enforcement agents because I wanted my bag.

“When we were leaving, they said we should bring our lawyers, so I went there with my lawyer and they exchanged addresses and phone numbers. I have been waiting to hear from my lawyer since then.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said Otuechere was not tortured.

He said:

“What happened was that a case of stealing was lodged against him at Ogombo division. Before investigation into the case could start, the complainant in the case moved it to another level of police investigation, which is SARS.

“Through diligent investigation by the F-SARS team, the missing bag was recovered. The Taxify driver was subsequently released on administrative bail. I must tell you on good authority that throughout the period of the investigation, he was not tortured by the F-SARS men.

“However, it must be noted that the suspect was roughened up a bit by a mob. For him now to turn around to put any form of blame on the F-SARS men who worked hard to recover the stolen bag is most unfortunate.

“Meanwhile, investigation into the case is still ongoing and efforts are on to identify and arrest the mob that attacked him before he was handed over to the police.”

UPDATE: Court stops swearing-in of new Imo Deputy Governor Callistus Ekenze

The swearing-in of the new Imo Deputy Governor Callistus Ekenze, has been stopped by a high court in the state.

We had reported earlier today that the swearing-in ceremony was ongoing at the Sam Mbakwe expanded Exco Chambers, at the Government House in Owerri, the state capital.

However following the new court ruling,  it was gathered that the Attorney-General of the state, Miletus Nlemadim, informed those gathered for the ceremony about the ruling which halted the process.

Recall that former Imo Deputy Governor,  Prince Eze Madumere was on Monday impeached by the state House of Assembly over alleged gross misconduct.

Considering the act as defiance to an order by a state High Court presided over by Justice Ben Iheka on July 30, the legislators and the Chief Judge of the state Justice, Paschal Nnadi, have been restrained from any further moves regarding the impeachment process, pending the hearing and determination of the matter.

Madumere had on the oher hand, flayed the House of Assembly for being a willing tool in the hands of the governor for political witch hunting.

The impeached deputy governor who described his removal from office as illegal, said neither the House of Assembly nor the seven-man panel set up by the chief judge of the state, Paschal Nnadi, invited him to any of their sittings.

Madumere’s media aide, Uche Onwuchekwa said that the House of Assembly has become “mere stooge in the hands of the governor.”

According to Onwuchekwa, “in disobedience to the restraining order against the the Chief Judge, the seven-man panel, Speaker  and members of Imo State House of Assembly from further action on the controversial impeachment proceeding against the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, the House of Assembly in Gestapo manner, has removed the Deputy Governor of the state from office.

The Acho Ihim-led faction of the members of the House sponsored by Governor Okorocha against the Court Order and the rule of law illegally removed the Deputy Governor in a kangaroo manner.

Against the requirement of the law, Prince Madumere was not given fair hearing as he was neither invited during the sitting of the investigative committee in the House of Assembly nor by the seven-man panel set up the Chief Judge.”

WhatsApp finally introduces group video chat

Whatsapp group video chat

WhatsApp has introduced a new special feature, ‘group video calls,’ which now brings it to par with other major messaging apps.

The app is now starting to add group video calling to its iOS and Android app, the company announced Monday. WhatsApp has supported video calling since 2016, but calls were, until now, limited to two participants. With the latest change, the app is upping its support to four total participants.

That’s a fairly modest increase, particularly compared to other services.

Facebook Messenger supports group video calls of up to 50, while Snapchat supports 16 participants.

Apple’s FaceTime will work with up to 32 people when iOS 12 launches later this year.

But the feature is likely more challenging for WhatsApp than some of its competitors.

Its video calls, like other messages sent within the app, are end-to-end encrypted by default, for one thing.

The company also needs to ensure new features are optimized for people with slower connections and older devices.

Once the feature is live, you can start making group video calls within the app by taping on the new “add participant” option in the top right corner of the screen while you’re video chatting.

The company made the announcement in a blog post on Tuesday reads;

“Over the last couple of years, people have enjoyed making voice and video calls on WhatsApp. In fact, our users spend over 2 billion minutes on calls per day. We’re excited to announce that group calls for voice and video are coming to WhatsApp starting today.

“You can make a group call with up to four people total – anytime and anywhere. Just start a one-on-one voice or video call and tap the new “add participant” button in the top right corner to add more contacts to the call.

“Group calls are always end-to-end encrypted, and we’ve designed calling to work reliably around the world in different network conditions. The feature is currently rolling out on the iPhone and Android versions of our app.”

Lagos Government denies claims of planning to place religious leaders on salary

The Lagos Government has debunked claims of planning to commence paying salary to religious leaders in the state.

According to the Lagos Government in a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, the claim was totally untrue and misleading. The statement disclosed that the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr. Abdulateef Abdulhakeem, made the clarification while speaking on a television programme monitored in Lagos.

Abdulhakeem said: “The clear position is that the Lagos State Government is not intending to employ imams and pastors. There is no such plan and there is no willingness on our part to delve into a private realm.

“What exists in Lagos State is that there is a symbiotic relationship between the Lagos State Government and faith-based organisations and it is a mutually beneficial relationship which has contributed to the growth and development of the state,” Abdulhakeem said.

In the said report, Abdulhakeem was quoted as saying that the state government would soon place religious leaders on the state salary structure to encourage them to use their pulpits and the minbar (pulpits in the mosque) to re-orientate citizenry to shun corruption and immorality.

“I must have been misunderstood or misquoted. We were at a forum where we were trying to encourage religious leaders to be advocates against corruption because religious leaders have millions of adherents and they enjoy the allegiance of millions of followers and we expect them to use the pulpit and the minbar to advocate for good governance and selflessness so that they can influence their members positively.”

Already, the commissioner said a structured approach had been put in place to relate with religious leaders in the state through the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, which consists of people nominated by the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Muslim Community across the 57 local councils in the state.

“They meet regularly to interact on religious issues and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has even further decentralised that, whereby over 700 of them were appointed, based on their nominations, and they are volunteers who are not paid anything. They come together to nip religious crisis in the bud,” he said.

Calistus Ekenze sworn in as new Imo State Deputy Governor

Calistus Ekenze has been sworn in as the new deputy Governor of Imo State, barely 24 hours after Prince Eze Madumere was impeached by the State’s lawmakers.

He is currently being sworn in at the Sam Mbakwe expanded Exco Chambers, at the Government House in Owerri, the state capital.

We had reported that the former Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere, was impeached by 19 out of the 27 member-assembly, after he was accused of absence without reasons for a period of three months and a failure to perform constitutional duties like attending state executive and state security council meetings.

However reacting to the outcome of the impeachment proceedings, Prince Eze Madumere accused Governor Rochas Okorocha, of being the brain behind his “illegal” impeachment by the State House of Assembly on Monday.

Madumere flayed the House of Assembly for being a willing tool in the hands of the governor, for political witch hunting.

According to Onwuchekwa, “in disobedience to the restraining order against the the Chief Judge, the seven-man panel, Speaker  and members of Imo State House of Assembly from further action on the controversial impeachment proceeding against the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, the House of Assembly in Gestapo manner, has removed the Deputy Governor of the state from office.”

The Presiding Judge of High Court 8, Justice Benjamin Iheka had restrained the seven-man panel of Inquiry constituted by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Paschal Nnadi, the Chief Judge, Speaker and members of Imo State House of Assembly over a matter brought before the court that bothers on constitutional breaches in the procedure adopted to remove the Deputy Governor from the office.

The Acho Ihim-led faction of the members of the House sponsored by Governor Okorocha against the Court Order and the rule of law illegally removed the Deputy Governor in a kangaroo manner.

Against the requirement of the law, Prince Madumere was not given fair hearing as he was neither invited during the sitting of the investigative committee in the House of Assembly nor by the seven-man panel set up the Chief Judge.

Nigerian man reveals what happened after returning $3k mistakenly transferred to him

A Nigerian man has recounted all that happened when he returned $3k, which was mistakenly transferred to his account by Bank of America.

According to the Nigerian man who walked into the bank with a cheque for the money, the manager of the bank couldn’t stop thanking him and the owner of the money also had a teary moment.

Read the tweet from @asilarex below:

A lady at Bank of America teller mistakenly transfers $3,000 to my account. To cut the long story short, I walk into the bank with a cheque today and the manager couldn’t stop thanking me like she didn’t believe I was coming. And the lady that made the error was almost in tears

Few months ago, it was also reported that a Qatar based Nigerian man had shown the world that not all Nigerians are bad.

Micheal Asemota, who is the Vice President of the Nigerians in Diaspora organization in Qatar, was erroneously paid the sum of QR1.5m which is equivalent of $411,128, after depositing the sum of QR150,000 in his account.

According to Qatar tribune, Asemota said when he got back home, he received an alert showing that a QR1,502,000 had been credited into his account by mistake instead of QR150,200. Asemota went back to the bank and returned the money.

He said:

”After opening the account with the bank, I checked my balance to make withdrawals for a supply job and found the huge sum. I was amazed and decided to contact the bank.

I went to see the manager to report the error of QR1,502,000 deposited into my account. After checking for confirmation, the manager gave me a warm handshake in appreciation.”

Asked why he alerted the bank about the error, Asemota said:

”I knew the money did not belong to me and shouldn’t be in my account in the first place, so there were no motives and temptations to keep it.”

Diesel Tanker explosion causes fire outbreak around EcoBank Head Office in Lagos

A Diesel Tanker Explosion, has reportedly resulted in a fire outbreak around EcoBank Head Office in Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred by 8: 40 a.m. when a diesel tanker was offloading diesel close to a generator that was turned on.

This resulted in an explosion and a fire outbreak which has been brought under control by operatives of the Lagos State Fire Service.

Here are photos and video below:

This is coming barely few weeks after the Lagos State Government disclosed plans to prosecute the owner and driver of the ill-fated fuel tanker which exploded on Otedola Bridge inward Ojodu Berger along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, had written to the police commissioner to advise him on the relevant provisions of the law that could guide the ongoing investigation which would lead to possible prosecution.

Confirming receipt of the letter while briefing Government House Correspondents after the Security Council Meeting chaired by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Mr Edgal said investigations into the incident were ongoing, saying that government would not allow vehicles that pose serious danger to residents on the road.

The police chief, who briefed journalists alongside heads of other security agencies in the state, specifically commiserated with those who lost their loved ones to the tragic incident, while also commending emergency responders who quickly raced to the scene to keep the causality figure low.

“As regards investigation into the matter, it is in top gear. I have just received a letter from the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice which stated very clearly charges which we are going to prefer against the driver and the owner of that tanker.

“Henceforth, we are using this opportunity to call on all tanker drivers, all lorry drivers, all owners of such articulated vehicles to please submit those vehicles for Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) test; they must go through the entire hub and get the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) Certificate of Road Worthiness. We will not allow such vehicles which obviously pose serious danger to other road users on our roads,” Mr Edgal said.

Stop trying to make a marriage work with a gay man – Bisi Alimi tells women

Bisi Alimi, a Nigerian gay rights activist is back with an advice for Nigerian women who are married to men who love men.

Sharing a screenshot of an account of a lady who was once married to a gay man, Bisi Alimi told Nigerian women that there is nothing once can do to stop a man who loves men from keeping up with such life.

He wrote:

“Stop press!
Dear women, I have said t before and I will say it again, if the man you are with loves men, pack your bag and move on. There is nothing you can do to stop a man who loves men from loving men. Staying around will make you sad and make your life hell.
This is a special message to Nigerian women, stop trying to make a marriage work with a gay man, no matter what he promised you, he will always go looking for the companionship of a man, and that’s the reality. Same goes for men who are married to women who love women.”

Bisi Alimi had before now, disclosed that he has no pity for straight women who get married to gay men.

According to him, as long as they keep supporting homophobia and patriarchy, they will keep marrying gay men.

“You either speak up against the atrocities, or keep being the victim,” he added to further drive his point home.

This was in response to the viral story of a woman who got married to a gay man, without knowing he loves men. Relating her experience, she wrote:

The weeks before my wedding were filled with all sorts of skin treatments, consumption of aphrodisiacs and vaginal steaming all in anticipation of the big night. I looked forward to consummating our love on that special night.

On that special night, when all the glitz and glam of the wedding was done, it was just the two of us. I was so nervous and excited but Hamisu did not look interested. We talked for a while and then he fell asleep.Yes! My husband fell asleep on our first night. I did not know what do, whether to wake him up or to allow him sleep. I couldn’t hold myself I had to wake him up.

‘Honey, I don’t think we should be sleeping tonight. It is our first night, it is the Sunnah.. He cut me off with a kiss and we made out for a while; then he told me he couldn’t do anything that night because he was so tired from the activities of the wedding. Fair enough… so we slept off.

Two weeks later we were still sleeping together…that is we were only sleeping. At this point I became fed up. No matter how hard I tried to get him in the mood my husband did not seem interested in making me a woman. He would rather go to sleep.

Three months after my wedding and I was still a virgin. My husband was not interested in that part of our marriage though he was a wonderful husband in other areas. He was very supportive of my career, he took care of me, he cooked and cleaned up after himself, he made me laugh, he was affectionate but that was the end of it… after a while I gave up trying.

Lady pushes her boyfriend out of the window during fight in Lagos

lady pushes boyfriend

A 21 year old lady has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for pushing her boyfriend from a window of a storey building in Ajagbandi area of Lagos, while trying to prevent him from searching through her phone.

The deceased, Wilson Henry, a Civil Engineering graduate from University of Benin, had his neck and complete spinal cord broken , as he landed on the fence of the building before resting on the septic tank.

He died three days later at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital , LASUTH in Ikeja. Vanguard gathered that the suspect, Adaugona Esu, a hair stylist was living in a self- contained room on Origa street with her boyfriend, one Eto, until he traveled outside the country in July 2017.

Along the line, she started dating the deceased, who neigbours said usually spent days with her in the apartment before leaving.

Tragedy, struck on July 13, 2018 , after neigbours said they heard the usual banters from the lovers’ apartment, which was followed by shout of help from the suspect. Out of concern, some of the neighbours , banged on the door and in the process, forced it open, to rescue Ada, as she was popularly called.

There was however allegation that one of the male tenants (names withheld) who entered the apartment, assisted Ada to throw Henry out of the window. As at the time of this report, occupants of the story building had fled their homes for fear of being arrested, while the Police are said to be trailing the male tenant said to have assisted in throwing Henry out of the window.

‘I did not throw him out, he jumped out himself’ But in an interview with the suspect, she denied pushing Henry out of the window, insisting rather that he jumped out himself. According to her: “He came in drunk that night and wanted to collect my phone to search it but I refused. As I was struggling the phone with him, he started beating me and I shouted for help. “At a point, I could not shout any more.

When the door was forced opened by neigbours who came to my rescue, Henry ran into the bedroom and jumped out of the window. “I did not push him. If I did, there would have been cracks on the window. He had jumped out of the window before Roy (the fleeing tenant) did not push Henry.

“He actually jumped out because he was afraid of Roy. I did not know he was injured until I rushed to the back yard and found him on the ground, unable to move. “I carried him on my back to Crown Hospital from where his skull was stitched.

“But he could not move any part of his body as he complained of not having any feeling, even when the doctor pierced him with a needle. “From there he was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where he died three days later”.

Kylie Jenner fan spends N6.7m on lip filler to look like the star

A crazy Kylie Jenner fan has spent an amazing £14,000 (N6.7 million) on lip filler alone, just to look like the reality TV star.

James Holt, 24, from Manchester, never felt truly happy with his natural look and his biggest insecurities were always his lips, until he turned 16 and had his first of many fillers.

According to Metro UK, he has had his fillers spill out of his lips because there was too much in them, but he continues to plan his next procedures and still gets his lips topped-up every two months.

James relished the feeling he got after his first round of fillers and knew that he would keep on having them, despite what his friends and family said.

So far, James has spent a total of £14,000 on his lips alone. As well as having his lips done every two to four months, James has also had two nose jobs, Botox every three months, teeth whitening twice a year and Botox injections into his armpits to prevent sweating.

James travelled abroad to Poland for his nose jobs, with each one costing £4,000. The Botox procedure has set James back £12,000 as he has been doing it since the age of 18, and a further £4,000 on cheek fillers as well as £1,000 on chin fillers.

“I wasn’t happy with my natural look, but I feel comfortable with this fake look,” said James.

“I started when I was 16 when I found someone who would give me lip fillers, and I think it’s got better with time. I like going to different people to have work done because there’s different techniques that they can use. It adds to my face.

“I’ve always wanted to change my face after seeing celebs doing it, so I thought I’d start with my lips and getting Botox injections.

“It felt great after the first time and I knew I’d be getting more.”

Five men arrested over kidney smuggling in Nepal

Police have arrested 5 people for their alleged involvement in a kidney-smuggling racket said to be operating from India.

Chitwan police arrested Durga Bahadur Darji, 41, Bikram Pahari, 35, Prakash Tamang, Deepak Limbu, 34, and Bishal Nepali, 28, from different parts of the district on different dates, Deputy Superintendent of Police Prabhu Prasad Dhakal of District Police Office said on Sunday.

The kidney smugglers allegedly lure poor people to hospitals in India to have their kidneys removed and sold.

The Dsp said ;

“We arrested these men following a complaint that a group had been luring people in remote villages into selling their kidneys by taking them to Delhi.

Police filed a formal case against the suspects after one man came forward and confirmed that the five men had taken him to Delhi to harvest his kidney.

“We have found out that these kidney racketeers find prospective candidates from rural areas and make them undergo preliminary medical tests in Nepal before taking them to Delhi. The incident came to light after one such candidate escaped from Delhi and contacted us,” DSP Dhakal said.

Superintendent of Police Sushil Singh Rathore said the arrested suspects used to earn Rs 50,000 for every donor.

“These men were lured by the prospect of earning quick money. Since kidney recipients are paying up to Rs 3.7 million for the organ in India, we suspect that these suspects are part of an international kidney harvesting racket,” SP Rathore added.

The five men could be charged under the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act. If convicted, the five could each face a jail sentence of up to 10 years and a fine of 200,000 Nepali rupees.

‘Now I know why Trump called us shithole country’ – Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom reacts to impeachment notice

Samuel Ortom Reacts

The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom says the institution of impeachment proceedings against him by eight members of the state assembly would have been impossible were Nigeria not a shithole country.

Reacting to the move, Ortom said he has now come to understand why US President Donald Trump said there are “shithole countries” in Africa. Ortom blamed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and Director-General of the Department of State Services for plotting to unseat him, saying he was being targeted for defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He also accused George Akume, a current senator and former Governor of the state of working behind the scenes to destabilise his government.

“Today, I’ve realised why Donald Trump called Nigeria or Africa a shithole. I want to believe that Mr. President is not aware of what is taking place in Benue State because as President who swore to uphold the rule of law and due process, and who is referred to as a man of integrity, a man of honour and who respects the constitution of our land, I’m sure he is not aware of the impunity and ignominy that is being perpetrated by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the DG of DSS.

“For me, I will continue to do my duty at all times. The action of the agents actively supported by the Police and DSS, the actions of the eight members of the House of Assembly against 22 who are legitimately doing their jobs has demonstrated the highest level of hooliganism and ignominy. The police detachment from Abuja is acting on the directives of Senator George Akume and the IGP and DSS, forcibly occupying the assembly in flagrant disobedience of court order to vacate the premises.

“The Police barred and stopped the 22 members of the Benue State House of Assembly from entering the assembly premises to conduct their legitimate duties and manhandled citizens who were going to watch the proceedings. They teargassed many and took them away. “The same Police provided heavy security escorts to the eight members who came to perpetrate the impunity, and led them away to their destination. Eight members seem to have suspended 22 members. It is only in a shithole country that you can do this kind of thing.”

Ortom said the entire turn of events “does not make sense”, adding:

“Terkimbi ikyange, the impeached Speaker, paraded himself as Speaker in flagrant disobedience to the court order that he should not do so until the matter is heard. The same members claim to have illegally moved a motion to serve an impeachment notice on me. Eight members cannot be two/third of 30 members of the assembly. An impeachment notice that I’ve not seen any way, but that is what I heard. I want to believe in the rule of law and will deploy legal process to tackle this form of challenge. We are not going into any kind of illegality and that is what democracy is all about. We will continue to protect the democracy that we have in this country.

“I call on patriotic Nigerians to rise and resist this impunity. What is my offence? Have I not got the right to decide to associate with any political association of my choice? Is it the first time we are doing that? Even in America, defection is not a crime, so I want to call on Mr. President to protect this democracy that made him President. “This form of impunity will only derail the democratic process that we have. Mr President should not allow this. The IGP should not be allowed to be used by Senator Akume to perpetrate evil. So, if Akume is recruited to destabilise to bring people to destabilise this government, he should be called to order. Now I know why Trump called Nigeria a shithole country. It’s only in a shithole country that eight House of Assembly members can suspend 22 lawmakers.”

Dino Melaye describes himself as an “exposed Nigerian man who has survived 4 assassination attempts in one year”

Embattled Nigerian Lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, said he has survived four assassination attempts on his life since April.

The Senator said officers of the Nigerian police attached to him have been withdrawn since three months ago and has many failed attempts to get them restored.

“I’m an exposed Nigerian who has survived 4 assassination attempts in one year,” Melaye tweeted on Monday.

“Senate resolution to IG to provide security ignored.”

The lawmaker representing Kogi West was allegedly kidnapped last Thursday. He announced his freedom after eleven hours in the “wilderness”.

But the police said it cannot confirm if he was truly kidnapped.

The Senator is currently standing trial in more than one suit: he has been accused of illegal possession of arms and gun running.

In a separate trial, he was accused of a six-count charge, bordering on attempted suicide, attempt to escape from custody and damage of police property.

He has denied complicity in the gunning charges and accused the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, of influencing Department of State Security (DSS) of planning to frame him of sponsoring hoodlums and other crimes in the state.

The senator insisted on Monday that being without adequate security has made him an easy target for those who have made four attempts on his life already.

“My Police security withdrawn since 22nd of April 2018. Every effort to restore them has been futile. I applied for armed civil Defence no response,” he said.
