Student commits suicide

A Tanzanian man has according to viral reports, committed suicide following Liverpool’s loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final played in Kiev on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Moses Mashaka, a second Year student at St Augustine University of Tanzania pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Mashaka had placed a bet on the game, predicting that Liverpool will be crowned champions. According to the Police, the case was reported by the landlady.

Mbeya Regional Police Commander Musa Kaibu confirmed this report. Mr Kaibu said he received the preliminary reports at 10a.m. Mr Mashaka was a second year students at St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT).

He was a second year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Rpc Kaibu stated that the landlady is the one who reported the case to the police. The case is still being investigated, RPC Kaibu said.

All police ? officers and men out there are products of families and communities, each and everyone of us should strive to be a good representative of our families and communities!
I could remember as I passed out from Police Academy in the year 2002, a visit to my father was met by a deluge of advice, he used almost 2hours to lecture me and remind me of how my joining the Police is to serve the country and not to take advantage of anyone, every time before his departure to the great beyond he calls to remind me that I should be a good ambassador of my family !!! That’s the word “Good Ambassador “ Every police officer must be consciously supported and be reminded by family members on how to remain the family’s good ambassadors, I’ll bet if our family members are on our cases we probably won’t have anyone of us doing what is illegal and abnormal. As police officers we are supposed to be above board shunning any form of corruption and human right abuse! The long and short of the story is that friends and families of any erring police officer should be blamed for their misconduct!! It’s time for every family and communities that have a loved one in the police to reach out to them and start reminding them to be good ambassadors to them and by extension Nigeria!

‘You can’t compare our three years with PDP’s 16 years’ – VP, Yemi Osinbajo

In his 2018 Democracy day speech, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said its not fair for anybody to compare the present administration’s performance in just three years to the 16 years spent by the Peoples Democratic Party.

He said the fact that the opposition PDP had started assessing the present government even shortly after spending two years in office showed that “we have performed well.”

Osinbajo spoke at a gala night/dinner organised to round off activities marking the 2018 Democracy Day saying it was important for the current government officials to thank God for having been in office for three years.

He said he would not have believed the prophesy if anybody had told him five years ago that he would become the nation’s Vice-President. Osinbajo said the administration had recorded great success.

He that for those who had been in government for 16 years comparing themselves to an administration that was just three years, showed that the administration had done very well. Earlier, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, described the evening as auspicious in the sense that it was the third year of Buhari’s administration and 19 years of democracy. “As we go into the fourth lap of this administration, good things are about to happen,” he said.

A lady, Rita Geofrey took to her Instagram page to cry out for help, claiming that she’s been locked up by her brothers for three days and they won’t let her out.

However, some Instagram users are questioning the authenticity of her claims and others questioned why she didn’t use the time to call for help but choose to record videos and post photos.

She also posted a vague address which has confused her followers even further.

However, she claims she is being force-fed by them and she has no idea why she is being locked up.

She wrote,

South African student arrested for lavishing $1m mistakenly credited to her account

A South African student who splurged more than $63,000 of $1.1 million she erroneously received was apprehended on Tuesday and appeared in court for alleged theft, police said.

28 year old Sibongile Mani, was arrested by the police’s serious commercial crime unit after she was asked to turn herself in, Anelisa Feni, spokeswoman for an elite police unit, the Hawks, told AFP.

Mani, a student at Walter Sisulu University in Eastern Cape province, appeared before a magistrate court on charges of theft.

She qualified last year for 1,400-rand ($110) in monthly food allowances from the National Students Financial Aid Scheme, which aids underprivileged students.

Instead, she was accidentally given $1.1 million in June and went on a spending spree, splurging on expensive clothing, a smartphone and partying.

It took the scheme three months to detect the error. It recovered the remainder of the funds from her bank account.

Mani was released on a warning and ordered to appear again on July 2.

 

 

Father arrested for defiling his 4 daughters

A 41-year-old man, Michael Akpan-Isaiah, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly defiling his four daughters.

The minors are aged between two and 17 years. Isaiah, from Akwa Ibom State, allegedly committed the offence between April and May at Borokiri Sand Field, Port Harcourt. .

The charge reads:

“That you, Michael Akpan Isaiah, sometime in April, 2018, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of (name withheld) without her consent .

That you, Michael Akpan Isaiah, sometime in May, 2018, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of (name withheld) aged 7 years old.”

The accused admitted committing the crime, but claimed he was manipulated..

But a Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA) representative, Fortune Ada Ndah, dismissed the claims and told the court that he carried out the act in his right senses.

She alleged that the incest had been going on even before the two-year-old he also defiled was born.

“The accused has been forcefully sleeping with his daughters for the past three years,” Ndah said.

Chief Magistrate Zinnah Alikor described the act as an abomination, saying it was wicked and devilish.

She blamed the mother for encouraging incest by not having a close relationship with her children. .

Alikor declined jurisdiction on the charge and ordered that the original case file be sent to the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.

She ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody and adjourned the matter sine dine.

Addressing reporters after the sitting, Ndah said:

“Medical diagnosis conducted on the children showed they have been defiled.

“FIDA is not happy about this irresponsible act of a man to his daughters.

“We will ensure the matter is prosecuted to act as a deterrent to others.”

Kemi Olunloyo apologizes to Linda Ikeji, it may seem as though she has succumbed to Hushpuppi’s demand before he can donate to her medical bills.

In reaction to this, the investigative journalist did not continue with her claims on Linda’s pregnancy, but she did what needed to be done by humbly apologizing.

In a video she posted on her Youtube Channel, she first started up with the incident that happened in Paris recently where a Malian Migrant Rescued a Boy dangling from a 4 storey building, she went on to how bloggers really needs to do their job, before she proceeded in tears saying:

“I never got married before having my kids, and it hurts me so bad, but i told my kids that’s the way it is, i want the best for Linda, I dont want what happened to me to happen to Linda, So Am Sorry about what i said to Linda Ikeji, But she hurt me too.’

To Prove that her words are genuine, Kemi says having made peace with Linda she has decided to end her Journalism.

In the end she thanked Hushpuppi for been a peace advocate. She captioned the video as thus below;

The blogger donated to my prison health and wellness fund and I made a video thanking her. A year later she told the Punch newspapers that she sent me N100k while was “languishing in prison when nobody wanted to help her” Little did many people know that bail conditions keeping me in prison was not money related. Rather it was a surety and an international passport. I was very HURT that she said this to a paper and her fans. All this because I reported her as not being pregnant according to several newstips.

I have decided to make peace with Linda despite how she ruined my name and brand after the gun story and an earlier family home wrecking incident. News is news and Nigerians don’t understand that. I have therefore decided to end my journalism career writing Nigerian news. A Nigerian socialite Hush Puppi whom I featured in my sarcasm yoruba skit #NgbatNgbati on @HNNAfrica on instagram was asked to donate to my medical bills to battle PTSD after my unfair prison detention. Hush wanted Linda and I to make peace and promised to donate if that happened. I cannot write an open letter as I have no strenght to write due to my mental illness PTSD. I did this video. Hopefully they will see it. Thank you Toyin Abraham, Tonto Dikeh who spoke at lenght to me on the peace initiative. Thank you Hush Puppi for being a peace advocate. Good luck everyone.

The video was originally published by an Instagram blog with a caption that spoke of how the rapper lost his street credibility after the jewelry was stolen.

Reacting to the caption, CDQ wrote:

The wedding planner who organized the wedding of Emmanuel Emenike and Iheoma Nnadi, has reacted after she was called out by the bride.

Iheoma had taken to social media shortly after the ceremony  to complain of how some guests didn’t get drinks and certain dishes which she paid for were never served.

She even said her husband’s flask was stolen right from the table in front of where they were seated.

As the FIFA World Cup for Russia draws nearer, many Nigerians are drumming support for the Super Eagles both in Nigeria and Russia.

Supporters have been purchasing jerseys en masse to show support for the national football team.

Mallam Shehu Dikko who is the 2nd Vice President and Chairman of NFF Marketing, Sponsorship and TV Rights Committee said; “the new Super Eagles’ jersey will soon be in the markets all over the would including some Nike shops in different parts of Nigeria on the 29th of May, 2018.”

But the production of the jerseys has taken a phoney twist as some individuals have circulated replicas around the market before the official release date by Nike.

The traders interviewed by the BBC Pidgin have bragged that sales of the fake jerseys have been explosive.

“I pray Nigeria reaches the finals. Once we make it to the finals of the world cup, I will import a container-load of jerseys for big sales” Obiora, a local trader from the South-eastern part of Nigeria said.

“I have been selling the Nigerian jerseys even before they were unveiled on the internet. All my customers have been going crazy about the jerseys. I have successfully sold more than 3,000 pieces so far” he added.

A BBC correspondent also spoke with other traders in the business of selling fake jerseys which the Nigeria Football Federation hasn’t endorsed. One of the traders proudly rocking the replica jersey said his is original as he imported them from Thailand. The traders also help customers in cresting their names on the jerseys for a feee.

Another trader who called the replica jersey a ‘top grade’ said the price ranges from N7,000 to N10,000 per unit.

It would be recalled that there were earlier reports that most of the new Super Eagles jerseys in circulation are fake. Further checks revealed that Nigerians are indifferent about purchasing immitations. They believe the original one which costs $85 (N30,600) is too expensive for them.

One Twitter user identified as Iya Oni Jersey is also in the notorious business of selling fake Super Eagles jerseys for N15,000 per unit on the micro-blogging platform.

This act of Intellectual Property Theft and Copyright Abuse is criminal but it appears the society is comfortable with it. It remains unclear if the leadership of the NFF will take judicial actions against the traders of replica Super Eagles Jerseys.
