The Ogun State Government has declared June 12 a work-free day to enable residents of the state mark the Democracy Day and celebrate the recent conferment of a posthumous national honour on the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, Moshood Abiola.

The secretary to the state government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, made this known in a statement on Saturday, adding that a befitting event, including a Democracy Walk to be led by the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, have been lined up for the celebration.

He said the walk is scheduled to take off from the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta at 7am with participants going through major roads in the state capital to Abiola’s family house at Oke-Ido, Gbagura, where prayers will be offered for the martyr.

“It will be recalled that in the last seven years, the Amosun-led administration had consistently declared JUNE 12 work free and commemorated it with varied activities. This year will be no exception as befitting events including a Democracy Walk to be led by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun have been lined up for the celebration.

“All Government functionaries, activists, civil society organizations, democracy volunteers, civil servants, labour/trade unions, students, market women/men and other stakeholders are invited to participate,” the statement highlighted.

“My daughter is not pleased with my raunchy pictures, videos” – Maheeda opens up.

Self acclaimed goddess of X has spoken out on her daughter’ perception of her activities online – though Maheeda started out as a gospel singer, her brand evolved as she began posting raunchy pictures and videos on social media.

While speaking in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Newspaper, Maheeda, who is in the wont of posting raunchy pictures and videos online, has opened up that her daughter does not really like her taking raunchy pictures.

She also talked about if she will have another baby by her oyinbo husband who she resides with in Netherlands.

She said,

“I don’t think my daughter likes some of the pictures I post online because sometimes when she sees me do it, she says it is disgusting. I don’t know if she is just being a teenager or she does not like it but she never complains about it.

“One of the reasons why I struggled to take her out of the country is that I want her to have a different mindset about s*x and life in general. So, she would have a different mentality when it comes to sexuality than the average Nigerian.

“The way an average Nigerian would reason about s”x is different from the way my daughter would see it. In the Netherlands, they use nudity a lot for their advertisements. For example, they could do an advert about milk and they would use a semi-nude model and show as she pours the milk on her body.

“In Nigeria, it is not allowed, it would be banned. That is why I decided to take her abroad. She would be 18 years old next year and she would be free to live on her own, so I am almost done in that area. She would be on a level where she could be on her own.”

When asked if she was willing to give motherhood another shot once her daughter is of legal age, she said that she would rather help the underprivileged children in the society rather than giving birth to another child.

“After 18 years of motherhood and all the suffering I faced while I was still a single mother, don’t you think I would want to relax and have the holiday of my life? Why would I want to have another kid? Personally, I like children and I see a lot of kids on the street and motherless babies’ home. I would rather help them,” Maheeda said.

Why I love Timaya — Jim Iyke Reveals

In an interview with Satuday Beats, Nollywood actor Jim Iyke opened up on his friendship with singer Timaya.

In his words;

“Timaya and I are kindred. He is one of the most open-hearted and kindest people I have seen. To love Timaya is easy and he is like the brother I don’t have. Anyone that is in your life and tells you things the way they are, it is easy to love that person.”

“It is when you are afraid of criticism that you cannot make friends with Timaya because when I go wrong, I ask him if I made the right move and he tells me the truth that I did not act right and that I messed up. When I am getting things right and people are criticising me, he tells me that I am doing the right thing. If you look through his history, he is the most consistent artiste of all time.”

“He is the most consistent with every tide, trend, competition and level he meets it and surpasses it. People may never term him the number one in the industry but how many people can remain relevant in the entertainment industry for almost 12 years? Why would I not want to be friends with such a person? It is the same thing with me. Timaya understands the business I do, he loves it, calls me sometimes about some of my business moves and I am always happy to explain them to him.”

“We call each other to share business ideas. For instance, if he buys a property and begins to build a house on it, I would ask him the reason behind the business move and he would explain. Timaya is someone that could call me to inform me about a landed property and predict the value of that property in five years and he is always right. Even when I am sceptical to buy the property, he would tell me that he would buy it but I would refund his money and that is what he would do. If a business idea also springs up from my side, I call him to inform him about it; if he is wasting time, I would buy it for him because I know how I would get my money back,” Iyke said.

SARS only misbehave in the South because southerners are cowards — Twitter user

A Twitter user, @villageparrot has declared that Yoruba people are cowards, reason for the constant SARS Brutality.

According to him, the brutality from SARS can only happen in Southern Nigeria because residents of the area are cowards…. adding that most of the SARS officers are scared of the north, reason why when they are transferred to the North, they refuse to go because they claim they won’t make money there.

His tweets reads;

Has anyone asked why these SARS don’t misbehave in the North? Smh. Northerners don’t take brutality lightly. Anything that looks like injustice to them isn’t taken lightly. You see that thing PHCN do here that you won’t have light for a month? They can’t try it in the North. I’m going to start right here. We often times say “Hausa” people are not intelligent. That is very far from the truth. If anything, they’re more informed than us down in the South.

“Hausa” (as they’re widely called) people listened to Voice of America, BBC, way before Southerners did. Do you think an average northerner carries a transistor radio as an accessory? They never miss the news! They listen to international news a lot! They watch NTA a lot!

An average Northerner knows his/her rights. Why do you think police don’t misbehave up North? Because if a SARS officer kills anyone anyone in the North, he’s going to die on the spot!

Watched that video SARS shot a young man alleged to be a fraudster. Everyone stood off and watched from afar. But if it was someone accused of stealing, they’ll bring petrol and lighter to burn the person. Nigerians are cowards and we are no different from beasts.

Sometimes I think we deserve what we get from this country. I don’t see any day there’s an otherwise proof. Nigerians have so much power when they come against ‘vulnerable’ people. But when it comes to their oppressors, they become little cats.

The other day I saw a video in which a girl was slapped by two MOPOL. The men in the minivan looked on, while another girl videotaped the incident. None of them intervened. But let it be someone accused of stealing in a market, they know where to find matchbox, petrol and tyres

If a police officer is attempting to arrest anyone in the North, people are going to come out to ask why. So, no police officer goes about wantonly arresting innocent people in the North. In the South, a police officer harasses people and we look on. In the North, it can’t happen.

Let me also tell you that when police officers in the South are transferred to the North, they always refuse to go because they know they won’t make money there. According to them, the North is “dry”. Southerners are cowards! Yoruba people especially. Only thing we have is mouth! We only know how to boast and attend owambes that are financed by debts.

Pastor’s wife beats her seven-year old stepson to d-eath because he ate her food without permission

Ogun State police have arrested a certain Oluwabunmi Metofik, (Pictured belo), for allegedly beating her 7-year-old stepson, Femi, to death, all because he ate her food without seeking permission from her first.

According to Punch, Oluwabunmi is married to Femi’s dad who is a pastor in Oyo state.

On the day of the incident, Oluwabunmi beat Femi and inflicted serious injuries on him that forced the lad to slip into a coma. He was rushed to a private hospital in their area and he was rejected.

She was asked to take him to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

A member of the community who saw the injuries she inflicted on the unconcious boy suspected foul play and alerted the vigilante group in the neighbourhood. The group went in search of the woman and they found her, arrested her and handed her over to the police. After much interrogation, she confessed to inflicting the injuries on Femi that led to his death.

“She said she bought food and kept it at home while she went to fetch water. According to her, by the time she returned, the boy had eaten part of the food. She said she beat him up the way she would do to her children. She admitted that he sustained the injuries on his head while he was beating him. Her neighbours testified that she usually beat the boy. Her eldest child also said she used a stick and knife to torture Femi. We took her and her husband to the palace and later handed them over to the police. The husband is a pastor in Ibadan. He said his wife told him on the telephone on Monday that Femi was sick and had been admitted to OOUTH. He said by the time he got to the hospital, the boy had died and they decided to bury him at Ayepe Cemetery. We asked for the receipt the cemetery gave them for the burial, they said they did not collect it. The man said he and the boy’s mother had separated. He told the police that the boy died naturally and that the suspect should be released because she is pregnant.” Toyin Oladoyin, an elder in the community said

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ogun State police command, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said

“The case was reported to the police. The father of the deceased boy said his wife was not responsible for his death and that she should be released. He admitted that his wife beat him for an offence. He said the child was sick and that the death was a coincidence. He said the beating did not lead to the death. The mother of the deceased boy is in Oyo State. We are waiting for her arrival. If the mother says the woman killed the boy, it is another thing entirely.”

Tonto Dikeh shares stunning new photos as she turns 33 today

Delectable Actress and mother of one, Tonto Dikeh is 33 today, June 8th.. and to celebrate, she had a photoshoot.. and shared the pics on her Instagram page.

She also shared on her journey in life and some of the lessons she has learnt. Happy birthday to her!

“Happy birthday to me!

They say ‘Life opens up many unexpected changes, beautiful possibilities and even some disastrous heartbreak. That’s how life is – it’s spontaneous, amazing, painful and yet, undeniably fulfilling’. People usually compare their life to that of a roller coaster. Spinning them round and round with unexpected twists and turns.

I realised my life has been somewhat different. I would say my life has been rather one heck of an Amusement park that harbours many rollercoasters. For many years I had been jumping from one ride to the other in search of fulfilment to a void I felt Was empty. No matter the next ride I got in, it would take me to the same destination.

A disappointing end to an exhilarating journey. This was the repetitive manner in which I lived my life. Little did I know that a higher being had higher plans for me. Little did I know that the Angels where looking down in heavy anticipation. Waiting for instructions from the Father to intercept my case.

You see life is like an unending school. Those who refuse to learn will never progress to a higher level. As I clock another year in the university of life I can confidently say that I am progressing to the next level. I have learnt so much in the class of Giving, Love, understanding and spirituality.

I want to thank God for the gift of life. There is nothing more precious.

Witch turned to cat k-illed while hiding in the bonnet of a car in Lagos

According to trending report, a witch which reportedly disguises as a cat, was k-illed yesterday morning, in Oke Afa area of Lagos State, after it was spotted in the bonnet of a car taken for repair at a mechanic workshop.

The ‘witch’ was killed by its ‘victims’ after the mechanic raised an alarm after spotting it sleeping peacefully inside the bonnet, claimed that they had been having many sleepless nights due to the evil manipulation of the cat.

The incident brought many residents of the area to the scene. Here are photos below;

In an interview few years ago, Chief David Edebiri, the Esogban of Benin Kingdom in Edo State, who oversees operations of witches and wizards among other traditional functions spoke to Vanguard’s Niger-Delta Life on his role as the “departmental head” of witches and wizards in the monarchy.

Power of witches

Chief Edebiri disclosed that unknown to many, witches run government and once they make decision, it is binding all over without the people knowing how. The Bini chief, who recalled that witches were very vicious before now in the kingdom, said a traditional parliamentary action was endorsed by “our great, great grandfathers” to put together a group, which he (Edebiri) is presently the leader, to tame their excesses.

Deactivation of witches
He said: “What I am doing as the Esogban is a social service to the community. It was enacted by our great, great grandfathers. When you hear of witch-hunt in England, France, if anybody is suspected to be a witch, the person will be burnt alive and destroyed, similar things were happening here, but the elders now said no, instead of killing these people or sending them to the evil forest, why not look for a way to reform them and bring them back to the society.”

Higher power

“I think that was why this structure was put up. It was a legislative action for social development of the people. When these people come here, because of predominant superior power, they confess that they are witches or wizards and confess all the destructions that they have been involved in,” Edebiri asserted. His words, “Then we look for a way to discipline them. You cannot remove them from being a witch or wizard, but after coming here they can be disabled from committing havoc or using the power for any dangerous thing. So when these people were brought like that and they were disabled, they will be taken back to the society and no one will call them wizards again. First, their coven will not admit them anymore, secondly that power has been completely taken away from them.”

How I acquired my power

Asked where he acquired the authority he uses to tame suspected witches and wizards, Chief Edebiri, “Ah, it is the power of God Almighty and that of the Oba of Benin (laughter). We have averted much havoc that these people would have caused in Benin Kingdom.”

Banky W mourns CNN host

Anthony Bourdain, celebrated gifted storyteller and popular writer who took CNN viewers around the world in his series has committed suicide.

He is aged 61. His death happened days after fashion designer, Kate Spade hanged herself in an apparent suicide at her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday.

Spade was found hanged by a scarf she allegedly tied to a doorknob, an NYPD source said.

Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a survey Thursday showing suicide rates increased by 25% across the United States over nearly two decades ending in 2016.

Twenty-five states experienced a rise in suicides by more than 30%, the government report finds.

CNN confirmed Bourdain’s death today and said the cause of death was suicide.

It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.

Bourdain who was also a world class chef was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series “Parts Unknown” when his close friend and French chef, Eric Ripert, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room on Friday morning.

Former US President Barack Obama has taken to Twitter to mourn CNN host Anthony Bourdain who committed suicide today at 61.

Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series

“Parts Unknown” when his close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room on Friday morning.

Obama, who has met and dined, with the CNN host shared a photo of them together and wrote:

“Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer.” This is how I’ll remember Tony. He taught us about food — but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together. To make us a little less afraid of the unknown. We’ll miss him.

Nigerian singer, Banky W who met the gifted storyteller has mourned his death, reminiscing to the time they sat down together to talk.

Completely stunned by the news of Anthony Bourdain’s passing. Got to sit down with him before our interview, and he shared parts of his story. His rise to success was so inspirational that I’m having a very hard time reconciling that with this news. I pray that God gives his family the strength to bear this loss. I pray we all learn not to take this life for granted. I pray that his life inspires us to realize that we can turn things around and go for our dreams like he did. I pray his death teaches us to take better care of ourselves and others. Depression is very real. Sigh.

Just days ago, Banky W (real name Olubankole Wellington) took to social media to thank God for keeping him alive as he recounts his battle with cancer prior to his wedding.

Banky W wrote:

“Many people know about my own battles with cancer. I’m forever grateful to God that I am alive and well, and that I was able to fund the treatment I needed.

Unfortunately, over 90,000 Nigerians die every year due to cancer. This is simply because they can’t afford to fight it. Treatment is expensive and so many people die because they’re just unable to pay for surgery, pills, chemo etc.

That has to change, and the more of us that contribute, the better. It would be great if one person donated N100 million. But it would be just as great, and even more powerful, if one million people gave N100 each.”
